Erin Hunter is inspired by a love of cats and a fascination with the ferocity of the natural world. As well as having a great respect for nature in all its forms, Erin enjoys creating rich mythical explanations for animal behavior, shaped by her interest in astronomy and standing stones.
I HATE Smoky! This whole book he yells at and blames Daisy for taking his children away- he was the one that encouraged Daisy to join the Clans! Daisy didn't even want to at first, HE was the one that made her go, seemingly so he could spend more time with his better wife Floss who he clearly likes a lot more than Daisy, despite him havinb kits with Daisy more recently...
There's also a line in this book where Smoky says that Clan cats are "weirdly loyal"? Yeah that's because you have no idea of loyalty at all lmao, you had two wives at the same time and treated one as lesser, and as soon as your other wife died you immediately moved on to the next pretty cat! And when SHE died, you instantly tried to get back with your ex...
Also he was willing to let his kits die wtf was that. Daisy also forgives Smoky WAY to easily for how crappily he treated her
I think the basic plot of this book was good, but the parts where Smoky and Daisy blamed her for "taking his kits away" (he never made an effort to visit) kind of ruined it for me. I can get behind Daisy feeling useless and wanting to go where she's needed, but returning to the Clans once she realizes that almost the whole Clan are her kits who she helped raise and she loves. There's a really sweet scene at the end where everyone squishes her into a cat pile lol. Also yay Mousewhisker time? And I liked seeing Daisy interact with the Sisters. Also Little Daisy is such a cute nickname

I'll be the first to admit that I've never really cared about Daisy. She existed, but that was about it. So, I really liked getting a deeper glimpse into her character
This book is very similar to Tawnypelt's Clan, another short story from the Warrior Cats series, in that it makes it seem as if the main character will stay with their new companions, and then does not. I understand that they can't really have important things happen in short novellas that many Warrior Cats readers will not read, but it feels like a let down to not have Daisy stay with Smokey and his children. The setup for this book, with Daisy upset at the beginning after losing four of her five children, shows that her staying with Smokey on the farm would be a good idea, but then she just doesn't, which doesn't make a ton of sense from what we've learnt about her and what she wants.
I did enjoy how this book gave some much needed character development for Mousewhisker, Daisy's only remaining child, and shows the effect on Smokey after Daisy took his children away.

So unerwartet traurig?? Alles in allem echt gute Kurzgeschichte.

3.25 This novella was definitely necessary because we don’t really have any information on Daisy, and this book really added depth to her character. It was kinda boring at times, but again it’s a novella so I wasn’t really expecting much. I really love Smoky but he pissed me off sometimes in this book. He was so rude to Daisy sometimes even when she was trying to help. I also feel really bad for Daisy, all her five kits are dead except Mousewhisker, and I love how he is also more of a main character in this book and we get to see a little of the mother- son duo.
Daisy’s Kin is the nineteenth Warriors novella and one of the better ones, even though I gave it just three stars. I really liked how much depth Daisy’s characters got here, and how reflective she is throughout.
We all know how badly Daisy was treated by the fandom. Many people said that she was “useless” because she “only” cared for kittens which is obviously completely wrong. Daisy has similar thoughts about herself in this novella, and it’s so sad to see. I also found it really interesting how she’s torn between the two worlds of the farm cats and the Clan cats. The focus on motherhood is interesting as well, and it’s so cute how she talks with Smokey about their son Mousewhisker. The story in general is quite focussed on kittens which annoyed me a bit because we of course get another cliché Warriors birthing scene. Misinformation is also spread here which is just harmful; newborn kittens can’t eat meat, no matter the consistency. I still liked the ending, and the random appearance of was fun as well.
April 2021 A sweet story. It was sad when Coriander died, and nice to get some little tidbits into Daisy and Smoky and Mousewhisker.
January 2024 Honestly, Daisy is so sweet. She's never been my favorite character for multiple reasons, but this novella definitely helped me to appreciate her more. I love the diversity in character types in Warriors; it feels like there's someone for almost anyone to relate to in there, and Daisy is definitely one of those somewhat more unique characters.
