Not much changes in Peak Valley, and Clint likes it that way, as long as everyone leaves him the hell alone. But when the mysterious Dawn drifts into town and needs help with her car, he finds himself getting too involved. As Dawn starts to open up, he wonders if there is more to her than she is telling him.
Forced to change her identity and move halfway across the country to Peak Valley, Kansas, Dawn has a plan to escape her troubled past. Only her carefully laid plan gets derailed when the town recluse Clint Colson comes to her rescue. As Clint pushes his way into her closed off world, she knows she can’t keep her secret for long or risk everything.
And will she survive what comes to Peak Valley when her past finally catches up with her?
I live in the weather crazed Midwest where we experience hot Summers and cold Winters. I’m starting to think Spring and Fall is a beautiful made up fantasy. I share my life with my wonderful husband who despite my begging and pleading won’t grow his beard out. I have three teenagers, two girls and a boy, and two mouthy malamutes, that are always keeping me on my toes, and never stop eating.
My earliest memory of writing was when I was in the second grade and my teacher encouraged us to write a book. I remember my whole world changed that day. I was certain books grew from a library tree. From that moment on I never stopped writing.
Writing also feeds my pen addiction. I am always in need of new pens, and when life gives me lemons, I buy pens and write.
Outside of writing I can be found reading, looking for new books to add to my every growing TBR, and watching BookTubers.
I hope you pick up my upcoming book, and don’t be a stranger, send me your thoughts, book suggestions, or opinions on pens.
This is my first book by this author and has I can find no others by her I am assuming that it is a debut novel and if it is then this is an author that is going to be worth watching. Her story draws you in and the secondary characters are the making of the story line
Dawn is on the run trying to escape her past and she gets a job working at Benny's a bar in Peak Valley Kansas That is where Clint sees her for the first time He is instantly attracted by her eyes but he can also see the fear in them Clint is a bit of a loner a town recluse something that he encourages but in Dawn he sees he could have a future Can he give her a chance to feel safe and will he be the one for her You will have to read to see
This is more a sweet contemporary romance Than romantic suspense although there is some suspense. Dawn is on the run and she goes into hiding in Peak Valley, Kansas. Clint has lived here all his life. He is a loaner but when he meets Dawn all that changes. Poor Dawn is scared of everything but Clint makes her feel safe. Burns is my favorite character that old man just cracks me up. “You can’t propose like that you jackwagon.” Burns cries raising his hands in an uproar. “Get your lazy ass out of bed and get down on one knee.” I’m ready to read more about the Colson brothers. This is gonna be a great series.
I've said this many times, but I love discovering new-to-me authors, and in this case, one that's a debut author. This story is written so well, I was sure there had to be a mistake. Surely Amanda Lee Dixon had other works that I wasn't seeing on her profile.
The cover alone caught my interest and I have to say, I kind of went into the story blindly. I went back to read the blurb after reading the first chapter because the words clenched me. I was like, whoa, this story is going to be a deep one. Clint, the story's hero, isn't your typical guy. He keeps to himself and lays low, but he's really an honest to goodness great guy despite giving off that bad-guy persona. Working as a bartender, it doesn't take Clint long to figure out that Dawn is hiding something and he's caught up in the mystery behind her. The two of them have an instant liking for one another, despite the fact that Dawn lives in fear.
Clint is so opposite of what you might think. The people of Peak Valley think differently about him too. But the way he looks after Dawn says so much about him. I love the gentleness that the author built around his character.
Protect Forever is the kind of story that once your vested, which for me was literally after the first few pages, you find it hard to put down. One chapter leads to another because you're dying to know what the outcome is.
Amanda Lee Dixon is a promising author that readers need to know about. Protect Forever is going to blow you away. Five stars!!
I’m new with this author and so happy I got an early copy of this book. Is been a very pleasant read. I love that the story between Dawn and Clint was developed with a slow rhythm and is escalating with details and actions that can only make you keep reading because the author writes on a way that trap you into the life’s of this characters that you wish a happy ending for this two. I had so much fun with the old guy Burns, he’s a charming character, I love him, he’s that guy who keeps on eye on he’s boys and the people around him who is close or important, I hope I read more of him on future books, because I had the feeling that there’s more to come of this gorgeous brothers. Can’t wait for Luke, Eric and Jax story. This author is definitely be on my list to read any book she gets released. Thank you to the author, the next step Pr and Netgalley for the ARC on exchange for my honest review.
Protect Forever is a small town love story about a girl on the run and a man destined to save her. Dawn is terrified and on the run, she hides out in a small town, where everyone knows everyone and nothing ever changes. Clint is a rough and tough looking bear of a man, who has had a bad reputation by appearance, though he kind of likes it that way. Clint is instantly taken with Dawn and works to woo her out of her terrified little shell. With help from a few secondary (but big) characters, Dawn may have found somewhere and someone truly safe. A little heat and steam, a little thrill and a lot of laughs, thank you Burns, Protect Forever is a great summer beach day read!!
4* Clint meets Dawn when she starts working behind the bar in Benny's he's struck by her beautiful eyes but sees the fear behind them. Dawn is hoping her past won't catch up with her and is surprised by the fact Clint makes her feel safe. This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. The characters were very likeable and I'm looking forward to reading more in the series
I really enjoyed this romantic suspense novel by Ms. Dixon. Dawn is on the run after someone breaks in to home and tries to kill her. She finds safety in Peak Valley working as the bartender for her friend’s father. When Clint Colson enters the bar and sees Dawn, he is instantly attracted to her beauty and vulnerability. He eventually senses that she is hiding from something or someone. Can he gain her trust and offer his support…and love? A wonderful cast of family characters as well as Dawn’s desire to be happy make this an enormously enjoyable read. I’m hoping for more stories about the Colson brothers. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Protect Forever is a suspenseful, romantic filled ride.
From the prologue, I was hooked. The story begins with our heroine Dawn being introduced with a dramatic and action filled bang and we are given no rhyme or reason behind the events that results in her hiding out in Peak Valley.
Our hero, Clint is instantly ensnared by Dawn from the moment he locks eyes on her. Built like an ox with icy blue eyes and ruggedly handsome, sign me up. Despite his upbringing and disarming appearance, that causes anyone that come in contact with him to run scared, he is a decent and sweet man.
The author wrote the characters in such a way, that I felt the weight of Dawn’s anxiety and fear pressing against my chest and Clint’s despair at people’s outright fear of his presence. The story is enriched with the secondary characters that provide humor and layers to the story. The small town feel and theme of family in this story is felt in the interactions of the characters. Mr. Burns is officially my favorite character.
Clint’s protectiveness of Dawn is heartwarming. He immediately understands her and never forces a relationship, even though his attraction and needs to be with her is overwhelming. He is patient and considerate, where she is isolating herself due to her fear of being hurt and abandoned again. He helps her cultivate a life for herself. Even when her instincts told her to run, she put her trust and faith in Clint and those around her.
I found the underlying drama and suspense believable and realistic.
Clint sees Dawn at a local bar and is immediately drawn to her. Dawn is running and hiding from her dangerous past. When Clint finally unravels her secret he will do anything to help her. This was definitely a sexy read with some danger mixed in. The side characters were hilarious. I would definitely read the next book!
Clint and Dawn had a wonderful story. This book had so many emotions, angst, heartbreak and whole lot of alpha loving men. Boy did I love Clint and of course the brothers. And of course you can not forget Burns he was fantastic. I really enjoyed this book.
Merged review:
So good
Clint and Dawn had a wonderful story. This book had so many emotions, angst, heartbreak and whole lot of alpha loving men. Boy did I love Clint and of course the brothers. And of course you can not forget Burns he was fantastic. I really enjoyed this book.
I was in a reading funk, for months and months. For some reason everything I picked up, I couldn’t get into. That is, until I read the debut release by Amanda Lee Dixon, Protect Forever. Not knowing what to expect going in, I was so blown away that this is the first book in her Peak Valley series. Needless to say, I am hooked and can’t wait for more from this small town. This book right off the bat reminded me of Virgin River. Dawn is running from something in her past, but that secret is kept tight with her and I found myself trying to pull together different reasons she’s be running, only to be completely wrong and amazed at how well this story developed.
I simply love Clint and Dawn. Clint was so swoon worthy right from the start and I fell in love with him immediately. I love his character and how he treats her. He is such a surprising Hero in this story I just didn’t anticipate. Dawn is strong and determined, but still fragile from her past. Their chemistry is so innocent at the beginning but develops into something that was simply a Netflix worthy mini-series!
Bravo Amanda on your debut and I can’t wait for the 2nd book in the series, Fight Forever. I always love following series when authors give you glimpses of the other books, so I am hoping that is what we get in the upcoming Fight Forever release.
I love finding new to me authors, getting sucked into their debut book makes me happy. Then to realize the well-developed characters plus great storyline, you have me reading you for life. I found this author as a suggestion. I was between books and never so happy I one-clicked a book. The first in a series following the Colson boys, being from a small town everybody is in everybody’s business, some good some bad. A lot is going on as we are getting to know the people involved, the author does an excellent job of keeping us in the know.
Meeting Dawn is a great way to get things started. She has secrets, she is running, hiding out in Peak Valley, KS. Clint the alleged town bad boy who is actually a teddy bear is getting to know her. Both have had unfavorable childhoods, making trusting another a problem. Next enters Burns our comic relief, unfiltered senior. Burns raised the Colson boys, after the passing of their alcoholic father. Dawn went into foster care after losing her mother. The union of two souls who have not had it easy, but realize love is worth everything. Some suspense, more angst, lots of chemistry and romance. Highly recommend this book and cannot wait for the next in this series.
This is the first book in the Peak Valley Forever series and I found it to be pretty long. There is a lot happening in this book so you have to pay attention. Dawn and Clint were a sweet couple and I was glad to see them get their HEA.
This is my first book by this author and if her second book Fight Forever is anything like her this one then it certainly won't be the last one I read by this new author. Dawn is running away from her past and Clint is just the right guy to rescue her. As their story develops Clint and Dawn are drawn to each other but when Dawn's past catches up with her will Clint be able to save the day? This book is a real winner and a must-read.
Protect Forever is the first book in the Peak Valley Forever series and the first book I have read by this author. I really enjoyed the book and am so glad I discovered this author. The plot was developed, and the characters were interesting and genuine. It was a small-town romance full of emotions and intrigue which kept you engaged until the end.
I received an ARC and am willingly leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I literally devoured this book. I was enthralled by Dawn and Clint; they are such endearing characters and their relationship is so pure and honestly #goals. I would date both Dawn and Clint. There was just the right amount of steamy nsfw scenes, suspense, and romance to make this a one-sitting reading. The only thing that would make this book better is a sequel! Can't wait to read the second book in this series!
This is my first book by Amanda Lee Dixon. It was off to a good start and we realize the heroine, Dawn is in some kind of trouble, legal and otherwise. We’re left guessing what actually happened until about halfway through the book. Early on, the attorney (Sarah) who helped get Dawn acquitted, befriends her and moves Dawn to her hometown under the guise of being a distant relative. Sarah gets her a job in their family bar and gives her a place to live (a semi-unbelievable twist to the plot). During Dawn’s employment at the bar, she meets several secondary characters whom she befriends. She also meets Clint, the local mechanic who has an unwarranted reputation of being the town bad boy because of who his father was. Clint and Dawn are kindred spirits because they both have built walls around their hearts due to events of their pasts. They connect immediately but the story is really a slow burn until about halfway through the book when they finally decide to be together. The book did pick up the pace about then. That’s when we find out the whole story of happened with Dawn and why she really came to town. We learn that she was accused of stealing a diamond ring from a motorcycle gang. A little unbelievable, but the plot was good enough that I wanted to keep reading. Clint sets out to protect Dawn and the rest of the book is spent finding who is after Dawn and bringing them to justice. It was a good book but I felt like the characters weren’t completely developed and the story line was a little corny and draggy. It seemed really slow in parts and then rushed in others. The steamy scenes were well-written, that was a plus. I would like read another book by this author to see if all her books are like this one or if Protect Forever was maybe a book that fell just a little short of being a great book. It had a ton of potential.
Dawn moves across country, changes her name and tries to start over all while trying to keep her distance from the large hunk of man who frequents the bar. With chemistry like that will she be able to keep her distance? This was a great story with some really great characters. While I love the story between Dawn and Clint, Burns TOTALY steals every scene he is in! I definitely need more of him in the next book!
Ok read. It started out with action and then it dragged on till the end to end with action. The middle just seemed to drag and I wanted the story to get to the point. The writing and characters were great, I just felt like it was going no where. It is a quick easy summer read.
Received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley for an honest review.
If you are looking for a sexy Alpha Male then Clint is your guy! His chemistry with Dawn is like lightening! She has secrets, will she let Clint in or will she choose another path. This book had me from the beginning and I couldn't wait to see where this hot, strong, electric pair would end up. Can't wait for more from this series.
Protect Forever is the first of Amanda Lee Dixon's that I have read. It hooked you in and I just couldn't put it down. Dawn is on the run and hiding in the small town of Peak Valley. A town where everyone knows everyone. She meets Clint, a rough, doesn't like anyone townie. She wants to trust no one but Clint goes to the local bar and with one look at her he wants to get to know her. I really love the chemistry between these two. The rest of the characters are great also and I can't wait to see more of this small town.
This book was an amazing rollercoaster of emotions!! Definitely plan on rereading(yes its that good)!!! I wish there were more stars to give. Can't wait to read the next book in the series!!
This is the first book in a series that will focus on the Colson brothers in Peak Valley. The second oldest brother, Clint is the only brother who never really left town - other than for trade school. He is, however, still living with the legacy of a crappy father and an overall bad family reputation. When Dawn moves to town and starts bartending at the local bar across the street from his shop - it is love at first sight for Clint.
Dawn is hiding from some really bad stuff that involves a motorcycle gang and a crummy ex boyfriend. She is scared and doesn't want to draw more people into the danger that surrounds her. She tries to resist starting something with Colson - but they can't stay away from each other.
Overall - I liked a lot about this book. The main reason I am not rating it more highly is that nothing really happens for the first 60% of the book. Dawn and Clint start their relationship - but it just didn't hook me. Once things start heating up as Dawn's past arrives on her doorstep - things get more intense.
I also really liked Clints brothers and would be interested in reading their stories - two out of the three are definitely set up in this book.
Overall its a good read!
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley but these opinions are all my own.
This was an okay book with a lot of potential to being a great book. However, I felt like the writer struggled with keeping the reader in the story and not in the mind of the narrator. This book is written in first person and is told from the two main characters' points of view. The reader would be drawn into the story and then the character switches into a narrator's voice and tells the reader his/her thoughts instead of showing it through the characters' actions. I also think there needed to be more character and plot development. Some parts drug a little and others felt a little rushed and didn't feel like it fit with how the characters were being portrayed.
Cute, quick read with a lot of potential. I’m only giving three stars because I felt like the pacing was off and it needed a bit more character development for me. I wasn’t drawn in by the main characters, but Burns is awesome!
"Protect Forever" by Amanda Lee Dixon is a heartwarming and emotionally resonant story of enduring love and unwavering loyalty, leaving a lasting impression.
Protect Forever by Amanda Lee Dixon, and my first book by this author. This book was easy to read and perfect for an escape from hot weather or the pandemic. I will be reading more books by this author, I highly recommend this book if you enjoy romances. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is a 5 star book that captures the attention from the beginning and does not let go until the last page. I really loved the love story that developed between Clint and Dawn. They had instant attraction but the love between the two developed at a believable pace. The characters were fully developed and believable, especially Clint. I liked that most of the book was from his POV, and how much he cared about Dawn, as his love developed. Clint was very protective of Dawn and fell deeply in love with Dawn. The love between the two was the strongest part of the book. I wish there were a few more chapters from Dawn's point of view so she could me more than a damsel in distress or a TSTL heroine. And her having platinum blonde hair fed into the usual American stereotype that only platinum blondes are beautiful heroines. Had she been Latino, African American, or Asian, I think it would have enhanced the story. I loved the author's writing style. Clean but emotional. Great dialogue. Great job of developing romantic angst between the H and h. I love the protective male trope but would have liked Dawn to be a little more talented or intelligent, and maybe more caring toward Amber and her kids. There were some typos, "your" for "you're" and "cloth" for "clothes" and "I" instead of "me." Maybe more attention to editing with the next installment. However, these errors were minor and did not in any way detract from the love story. The writing was otherwise clear. I would have liked to hear even more of Dawn's and Clint's internal monologue as they fell in love as it would have made the developing love between them more believable. However, I know other readers skip over all the internal wrestling so this is simply my opinion. Sex: yes, clearly the two were in love, Clint asks permission before of Dawn and lets her set the pace. I really liked that. Too many romance novels skip over consent, or the man rules in the bedroom. The love scenes enhanced the love story rather than became the focus. And for once the alpha hero actually loved the heroine and told her so without feeling like he wasn't allowed to feel love because is is not manly. Clint was perfect for Dawn, and definitely swoon worthy. Kind, loving, protective, excellent manners. The opening chapter set a suspenseful tone to the novel, and carried through to the end. It did not make sense that Dawn could jump two stories and not be injured. Also, Dawn meets the hitman from the first chapter but doesn't recognize him, which doesn't make sense. This storyline could have been improved by including a few more scenes of the bad guy making progress as he tried to find Dawn. The final confrontation scene seems rushed and written as an after thought, not fully developed. Most of that storyline didn't make sense and either should be removed, to make it strictly a love story, or strengthened to make it a true romantic suspense novel. Dawn's fear of men and apprehension was believable. The developing relationship between Sarah and Eric could have been expanded, say, showing them working together to come up with a plan to protect Dawn. The author will probably write about their love story in the book, and this was a nice way to introduce them. The relationship between Luke and Amber could also be developed a little more, because they are likely to have their own version as well. The ending felt rushed and not satisfying. (I don't want to give too much away, but a proposal should be romantic....just saying, the rest of the book was so lovely and emotional) An epilogue emphasizing their happy ever after (I don't want to spoil the plot), and perhaps Dawn opening a bakery or catering service. This was a satisfying 5 star romance with excellent writing and good pace of the h and H falling in love.
