Hope's last A hellish apocalypse reduces the human population to numbers so low, future generations will inbreed and degenerate. Survivors turn to Hell's Gate, an experimental sedation prison, to secure more females for world repopulation. They must depend on a damaged psychologist, Jason Adams, to select which female inmates to revive. While searching the prison, an accident revives a serial killer and inmates take over the asylum. Adams must use his heart and not his head to save the woman he loves and save the world from a mad man.
A retired fishery biologist, Darrell Keifer, built a cabin on the Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula and spends the summers fishing. He winters in Arizona where he writes, hikes, and plays pickleball. Darrell enjoys writing near-future science fiction grounded in hard science and narrative anthropology.
I'm not much of a science fiction guy, but WOW, I loved this book from first time author Darrell Keifer. Besides being well written, you can tell it is researched thoroughly and deals with the real possibility of a catastrophe that could end life on earth. It develops the main characters then follows their events after a natural release of toxic gases from the ocean floor.
As a result of the disaster there are very few people remaining alive on earth. Looking towards the future they are concerned with repopulation of the world without inbreeding. Near the survivors, there is a prison that puts the worlds worst criminals in a state of deap sleep. In order to repopulate the world the survivors decide to wake a select few female inmates, but things don't go as smooth as planned.
The only problem I had with this book was starting to read it at bedtime and then not being able to quit.
If there was a near appotholictic disaster I would want you on the team. Seems like you thought of everything the human race would need to survive. Great story! The themes of hope and love and living for something greater then yourself are great reminders that when things get tough you have to look for a reason to persevere. Hope!
Selected this book by my uncle Darrell to fulfill the "Been meaning to read" square on my Summer Book Bingo board because I have been meaning to read it since I downloaded it on my Kindle. Nice work Uncle Darrell! This was really interesting to read and a fascinating premise. It's hard to find hope in post apocalyptic times but there was a glimmer of hope at the end.
Wonderful character development and provoking science all around.
Considering I am an avid reader, I can hardly believe I am about to write these words: ORIGINAL! ORIGINAL! ORIGINAL! Could not put it down. Read it in one sitting and am very sad to say goodbye 👋👋👋
