This book was brilliant, but bizarre.

I had it recommended to me but very little information was given about the content.

It’s a really unique book telling the intertwined stories of a murder. The writing style is quite detached but it somehow works. The story get a little to grand as it goes on, but it still stays just within the realm of working in the wider context.

Aku butuh Jawanannya.

Baru ngerasa greget waktu baca halaman 76. Pertengahan buku udah ngerasa menarik.

A dark, disturbing novel told in a flat, unemotional way. It certainly holds interest.

I feel like this is one of those books where the less you know the better of a reading experience you will have. For this reason I have tried to be very careful with not giving too much away and therefore you may find that my review is not as detailed as you may like.

Confessions by Kanae Minato is about a middle school teacher in Japan, whose daughter was murdered. She knows that two students in her class are responsible for the death of her daughter and she even knows how they did it. Most importantly however, she wants revenge.

This book is filled with twists and turns and it keeps you guessing throughout. You experience events from multiple perspectives and I personally really like this, because I felt like most of my questions were answered. The book is well written and the flow and pacing were really well done. I felt the characters were well developed and I found most of the reasoning and actions taken by characters believable. It can be disturbing at times, especially because it involves children, but it's not what I would call gruesome. It brings up questions with regards to morality, the consequences of the actions and influence of parents and teachers and the competitiveness that children may feel towards fellow classmates.

I had a slight issue with the ending where it seemed a certain character seemed to know a lot of what would happen. As we know, peoples' decisions are not always predictable, but other than that I felt this book gave a great reading experience.

There are other details I liked about the book, but due to not wanting to give away too much of the plot, I am going to end my review here.

This book has also been made into a film and it is one that I definitely want to check out.

*Trigger warning* This book does discuss feelings of suicide, the death of a young child and bullying.
