Bisous and Brioche: Classic French Recipes and Family Favorites from a Life in France

Rate this book
A book of recipes from the author of the Grape Series memoirs that will transport you to a rustic French cottage surrounded by vineyards, no matter where in the world your kitchen might be.
For years readers of Laura Bradbury's bestselling Grape Series memoirs have been clamouring for the secrets behind all the mouthwatering meals described in the stories about her life in Beaune, Burgundy. Together with her friend, photographer and cookbook author Rebecca Wellman, Laura shares recipes that have been handed down through her husband Franck's family or passed on by French friends and neighbours, and that now feature regularly on the menu at her house.
Bisous & Brioche features classics like vinaigrettes, madeleines, crêpes, crème fraîche, tarts, cassoulet, coq au vin--dishes whose names alone will warm the heart of any Francophile. The traditional and the newly developed recipes are served up with anecdotes about their arrival in Laura's life and are accompanied by Rebecca's sun-soaked photos of classic and nouveau French dishes, plus the gorgeous Burgundy countryside.

Laura Bradbury is the author of the bestselling Grape Series, an award-winning cookbook Bisous and Brioche, the Winemakers Series, and "huggable" rom coms such as Oxford Wild.

She has a law degree from Keble College, Oxford but Laura’s true love was always storytelling.

She married a Frenchman and ran off to France after graduation so she would have something to write about. Now Laura lives between Burgundy, France and an island off Canada's West Coast with her French husband and their three daughters. She can be found writing, reading, or eating snails with a nice glass of Pinot.

As a keen cook and a lover of all of the author's grape series of memoirs, I felt compelled to buy a hard copy of this book.
The recipes are easy to follow and include photographs of each dish. I enjoyed the background stories and extra tips from Laura and Rebecca. However, the proof of a good cookery book is in the eating, and I can confirm that the resulting culinary efforts taste delicious.

Fascinating Read

This is not your average French cookbook. Perfect for anyone who loves French culture & cooking - or simply great, homemade food. My husband & I reminisce about our travels through Europe often, and long to return. But, as we can’t safely travel at present, I’m giving him this beautiful book for Valentines Day. It’s as close as we can get to a trip abroad right now, and he loves French cooking!

I don’t think I’ve ever checked out a cookbook to actually just *read* before, but that’s exactly what I did with this one. And it was delicious!

The pictures are beautiful, the recipes easy to follow, and the format is excellent. There are great explanations and background info, as well as some very sweet stories to go with the recipes. Bisous, indeed!

I look forward to making some of these recipes and getting that taste of France that I miss from time to time. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
