Stuck in a holiday excess rut? Wondering how to celebrate sustainably this year? It's simple: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Christmas is a time for us to spend time with our friends and loved ones, often over large feasts and piles of presents. But as we become more aware of the effects unnecessary waste has on our planet, we may start to wonder - is there a better way to celebrate?
With Green Christmas, you'll learn how to choose healthier, happier and more environmentally friendly options to stave off feelings of guilt and, most importantly, have a sustainable Christmas that lasts year after year. Including helpful tips on reducing waste, from making a turkey curry using your leftovers and making patchwork wrapping paper out of last year's scraps to helping you brainstorm experience-centered gifts that will become treasured memories, this little book is the perfect handy resource for anyone looking for sustainable steps they can take, one holiday at a time.
I really liked this book as it wasn’t preachy, instead it was practical and encouraging. Also it had some great ideas to incorporate into your festive celebrations. A lovely book!
A lot of the tips in this book are specific to the UK, but there are still quite a few that can be used elsewhere. Some of my favorites include supporting local small businesses, carefully planning parties to minimize waste, creating a reverse advent calendar to collect nonprofit donations, and pairing pre-loved items with handmade goodies as gifts. I also liked the author’s emphasis on keeping friends and family, the larger community, and the environment top of mind during the holidays. Hopefully this thoughtfulness will influence our actions during the rest of the year.
As the title suggests, this book has a variety of suggestions for making Christmas more environmentally friendly. There are 24 chapters, almost like an advent calendar, and it reads a bit like a series of blog posts. I found some clever ideas, and I particularly liked the first chapter, which is about defining what you really want out of Christmas. Some of the suggestions were very obvious and others were a little silly, but I saved a few recipes, and I may come back to this book when I'm thinking about holiday gatherings in the future.
Cute small book full of small font. Organized in 24 chapters geared towards Xmas celebrations with eco friendly and sustainable ideas for activities, crafts, gifts and decorations. Great cooking recipes that are simple and basic cleaning solutions easy to make.
