Colton Hunter is the captain and quarterback of a winning team. With killer looks and so much money he doesn't need his football scholarship, you'd think that he would have nothing to worry about.
But behind his picture-perfect life lurks a dark secret - something that Colton has been forced to keep to himself for fear of what happens if he speaks out. Torn up inside by the deceit, he shuts everyone out, not allowing anyone to get close enough to see what hides behind the mask...
That is until Mia Collins crosses his path, shakes his resolve and forces him to realize he doesn't have to be strong all the time.
So it’s not often I can say that I finished a book in mere hours. A day, yes, but hours now that comes around like Halley’s Comet. That is exactly what Better With You is, a rare and beautiful moment in time that will last forever in your mind.
I found this book to be so endearing and such an amazing beginning to a new author and series. Nothing could pry this book out of my hands, for I read it while I ate breakfast, I read it while I prepared lunch and by the time I finished it I wanted to start it all over again. Truly this book captivated me from its opening line “Mia, hurry up!” to its last words “I always will.”
When I was first introduced to this book I wanted to read it because it’s enticing cover. I mean the tagline alone sucked me in but, then the teaser started showing up just about everywhere. I just couldn’t say no to the book after reading them. I knew I just had to read it. I let my expectations be, well, I let them be neutral. I didn’t want to expect too much and be let down. Safe to say that even if I set the bar to it limit, Better With You still would have reached it.
The meeting of Colton and Mia was so hilarious and honestly, I thought that what was meant by “second chances” little did I know Gabriela had so much more up her sleeve that left me awestruck. Watching the character development was as easy as watching a Friends on TV. It just worked. No matter how different the array of characters were within the 242 pages of this book not one was out-of-place, not one didn’t make sense and not one felt forgotten by the time I reached the end.
This book isn’t about finding someone to fix you because one person can’t fix all your problems. It’s about two people finding each other and building each other up instead of knocking each other down. Yes, they have their bumps, and boy is there some intriguing little twist within these covers. Oh man, I think I’m giving away too much. But it felt you just had to know that.
There where times within this book that I just laughed, because well the dialogue that goes on is not only realistic but perfect for a sarcastic smarta** like me. It was so refreshing to see authentic communication or lack of (you’ll get when you read it) between the group of college students.
Speaking of college students, Gianna Gabriela eloquently used a class assignment to highlight some very pivotal life-changing factors in which we are challenged with in today’s world. And as if you need more incentive to purchase Better With You (FYI~ Colton Hunter is a phenomenal book boyfriend) Gianna is donating 30% of the profits from this book to The International Network of Hearts an organization that works with survivors sex trafficking.
Last but not least I leave you with I’m looking for a recipe for Spiked Oreo Shakes so can drink it down while watching Magic Mike like Mia and Kiya (the best friend/ roommate).
Debut novel? There is NO way. That is what I kept telling myself as I read Better With You. I am calling it now, this girl is going to hit it big with the raw, undeniable talent that she has. She is a new author to watch out for!
Gianna Gabriela has blown my socks off with this incredible, heartwarming read. With every kindle page I turned it's as if I could experience everything that Mia and Colton were going through. I am someone who refuses to spoil a great read, so all I can say is go read it, because you will not be disappointed.
Such a sweet and lovely book! If you’re looking for something to enjoy without high anxiety hell, I’d highly recommend ! It’s well written and well developed!
It’s probably better than 1 star if the whole playing the V Card until marriage trope is your thing. Or cheesy as hell dialogue gets you going.
Colton and Mia are hooked after one look. ( yep their eyes met and that was it ) Colton is the star football player of their College, Mia is the nerdy girl that no one knows. Right on que they get out in a group to work on an assignment together and that’s it. Colton makes it his mission to take care of Mia by taking her to and from college, saving her drunk self, blah blah blah They finally get it together and Mia tells him she’s still a virgin and saving herself for marriage. I should point out that, that particular storyline isn’t the problem, it’s the unbelievable way it’s dealt with. Mia has this weird vibe going, she’s really into Colton, has some stuff going on in her past which (turns out to be she’s just saving herself)but once she tells him she’s saving herself, they basically get together, he wins the championship and then get married. They’ve been going out for about 3 months tops. It just really bugged the hell out of me. Apart from a few questions they had to answer as part of the assignment from college and a couple of one to ones about their problems they never really get to know each other and I didn’t get the attraction. Mia wasn’t anything special, she had no quirkiness, sassiness. She was your typical annoying flake (which I really hate in books) There is one moment that she stands up for herself against Coltons ex and she comes out with a fab one liner. So that’s what my 1 star is for !
Forewarning readers... once you start you won’t be able to stop!! 5/5 STARS
Gianna Gabriela has just gotten a 10.0 on the 1/4 mile with her first book ever. Better With You is about your typical hot college jock Colton and the beautiful nerdy type newbie Mia. When Mia literally runs into Colton in class she is immediately turned off, but Colton is immediately turned on. Both have been hurt by people they loved and trusted in their pasts which has left them extremely guarded. It takes one task to start taking those guards down but just like life itself they are thrown some obstacles they need to overcome. Will they do it together or alone? Will they be able to put their fears aside and be truly happy together? You will have to read to find out. This is the first book in the Second Chance Series.
You would think as you read this story that Gianna has been writing stories her whole life, but she hasn’t. Her writing had me hooked from the first page. I am looking forward to reading more books by her in the future. Congratulations Gianna on the success of your first book ever!! I am now a fan for life.

This book surprised me. For being a new author and her debut book it was so good I couldn't put it down. I lost sleep reading this but it's ok because it means it was that good. This second chance YA romance can be read by all ages too. It was refreshing to go back to younger days. Meet college good girl and College football star both dealing with issues from their past. I loved Mia and Colton. They both have past issues they are dealing with and trust is the biggest one. Will they be able to overcome that. Thrown together for a school project they discover they might be able to help each other deal with their personal problems. Read about them while they open to each other, start falling in love and then have one mistake that might take it all away. You need to read this to find out what happens to them. A story about trust, friendship, jealousy, and love. Will they get a second chance. A must read. You will fall in love with these characters and Mia and Colton for sure. I so can't wait for more. I will definitely be reading her books. Great Job!
I cannot believe this is a debut novel. Gianna Gabriela has written a story that captured me heart and soul from the first page. Two broken souls, Colton and Mia, and their adventure to make it through their lives and doing what they feel they need to to survive by shutting everyone out (for different reasons). The characters were written in such a way that they were very easy to relate to and become a part of their story.
Truly a must read for everyone and I cannot wait to read more books by Gianna Gabriela in the future.
Short and sweet and typical standard fare for college sports-romance novels. Liked both characters and sympathized with both for the neglect and family problems they endured. Very mild in the sexual and language content.
5* Stars!!!
Copy given by author in exchange for honest review.
Firstly I would like to say thankyou for giving me the honour of reading this book. This is a new author to me so I was going in blind so to speak , lets say I was not disappointed. I read the blurb and it spiked my interest straight away and I'm so glad I grabbed this book.
I loved Mia and Colton. When they first meet lets just say she hates his arrogant self but slowly as they get to know each other that hate turns to something else, there was even a few times where I was laughing out loud at their banter. I loved that this story was not an instant love story that you watch both Mia and Colton get closer and closer until they cant hold back no more, but that does not mean it is an easy ride especially for Colton as he is holding a secret that keeps him at bay that makes him put up walls with people but Mia slowly knocks the walls down. slowly they pick each other up and make each other better
This is a great book to get introduced to a new author for me I cant wait to read the next one .
Pages: 243 My rating: 3 Read other books by this author in the future:
This is another one of the love stories where two broken people find each other and at first don’t want to have a relationship but it ends in a HEA. It was an okay read, and did entertain me.
Colton Hunter (football star) makes a terrible first impression on Mia Collins (nerd) and days later Mia is forced to be a part of a group project with Colton and his friend, Zack. Colton strives to make a better impression and eventually they bond and get to know one another as friends. It eventually veers into acknowledgment of their mutual attraction. Of course, there is a woman from the his past that refuses to go away and this woman even threatens Mia. I appreciated Mia standing up for herself and telling Colton what happened. Mia is strong and though I don't know why, she has self esteem issues. She refuses to truly let herself believe that Colton could possibly want her. Colton's actions (and the reactions and comments from his friends) show her otherwise, but it doesn't seem to be enough.
When the pivotal moment happens, Mia's actions are a great disappointment. The author doesn't allow Colton to fully explain, thus we have a forced and unnecessary rift, creating unnecessary angst. Mia is supposed to be logical, yet she doesn't even entertain the possibility that Colton is telling the truth-- otherwise, she'd be THAT woman. Instead, she chooses to continue to believe the worst, even after she is told otherwise. She never takes into account what the Colton told her about his past. Mia chooses to painfully bask in her self-righteousness. Thus, making us love Colton even more, and liking her less!
I wish someday that this highly popular pivotal moment trope, (where the heroine is NOT that woman), will be turned on its ear, where it belongs.
Wow!!! What an amazingly written story this was. What makes it so exceptional is that this is the first written book by this author. What attracted me to this story in the first place was the blurb, it was inviting and enticing.
Mia has one mission, get through college unnoticed. Having went through some terrible situations that left her unable to get close to other people. Colton notices her alright. Colton has been keeping some secrets that are just eating away at him. He sees something in Mia and wants to get close to her. She will become his everything until in one blink of an eye it’s taken away.
I love discovering new authors and ones where they have a first story because I get to follow their path. This story sucked me in the heart of these wonderful characters that made me feel so much. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t seem to want to put it down for very long. It was an addicting and captivating story. A beautifully written story about learning to trust others. The writing style shows maturity and professionalism. The characters were created to perfection where I got to connect with them. Bottomline is this is a must read.
Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend this story.
This YA romance debut book by Gianna Gabriela is a must read and perfect for anyone! I could not put it down!
Mia’s world fell apart when she came home for break one year and she wakes up to her parents arguing and her Dad drinking. Her Tragic family history after that changed Mia from the easygoing person that she was into one who was focused on getting an education and keeping herself protected from heartache.
Colton was the star football player who wanted to play professionally, but was determined to get a good education in case that didn’t pan out. He had partied hard his first couple of years becoming a ladies man but the situation that he was hiding forced him to grow up, mature and he took responsibility not only for himself but for his twin brother and sister. His incredible guilt caused him to be too protective of everyone he cared about.
When they meet their relationship is full of sparks. She is different than anyone he has ever met. She is not caught up in his Football royalty status. She doesn’t treat him special and gives back more snarkiness than she gets! I love their dynamic! She is behind him 100% as she makes him work for their relationship and tries to teach him that he doesn’t have to be the strong one all the time!
I highly recommend this book and I look forward to the books to come! Gianna Gabriela is an Author I expect to see more great books from!
I want to point out that this is somewhat of a cheesy and slightly predictable book. It isn't bad cheesy but cheesy enough that some readers may not like. Me, I love it! With that said.....
Two Quick Prologues. First - Mia POV -in what are the beginnings that changed the course of her life Second - Colton POV - in what are the beginnings that changed his demeanor towards his Mom.
For a cheesy college book, it holds many of my favorite qualities. Depth Lots of Quick Banter Strong And well written Characters "primary and secondary" Dual POV Limited, if any, inner monologue Sports
The story doesn't focus on the struggles that Mia and Colton faced at the beginning but focuses more on the growth between all the characters. Of course, there are always the college mean girls. I love how Mia stands up to them. My favorite line by Mia... "Well Abby aka mean girl, for me being new here, I would recommend not being someone they come back to but someone they keep." I recommend.
While the premise of this book is one I’ve read before, I want to say that this book was sensational. I loved it so much and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series. The characters were wonderful, including secondary characters. In addition, this book is a a little angsty with a bit of other woman drama but nothing that made me too anxious. I sincerely loved everything about this book. Another plus for me is that I’ve found a new author that I like.
series. 2nd chance YA romance, not normally the style of writing i do read, but I can and do appreciate it so much. debut novel. such a great read and i wanna read more from Gianna ...love her style ...such a new fan. well done!! all the best 2 u! ( :
To be completely honest, I didn't like this book at first. It wasn't until about 10% in that I was absolutely captured by this book. I loved the both Mia and Colton. I thought it was super interesting their love story, and I really enjoyed that it wasn't instant love for them. At first, Mia hated Colton, then when she got to know him better, they were friends for months before either of them acted on their attraction. I loved this book and cannot wait to read more from this series and by this author.
Some secrets destroys you, some may lift you up and change you for the best or for the worst. Mia Collins has her own secrets that keeps her walls close, She is waiting for the one. she has Kiya her best friend and partner in crime who is always there for her and she is her best to make Mia happy. She meets Colton not in a good moment. Love Colton he is always there, great brother and great friend. When is for you it will wait for you until is time. It’s a great story to make you believe we all have our soulmate somewhere. I loved the connection and relationship Colton and Mia build as day the pass. I can’t be without you because I’m “Better with you”
Thanks for this great read Gianna.. looking forward to read more of your books
