The Quiet Edge

No good deed goes unpunished.

For private investigator Harrison Hart that's more than an old cliché - it's his current damn life.

After giving up his FBI career to care for his mentally ill brother, Harrison does his best to adjust to life in suburban Detroit. The last thing he needs is somebody else's problems. But when he sees a lowlife grab a woman's purse and run, what can Harrison do but chase him down?

This one act of heroism draws Harrison into a messy crossfire of deceit, betrayal, and ruthless criminal ambition, where not even the victim of a purse-snatching can claim innocence.

In the fallout, Harrison reluctantly plays good Samaritan once more, though it means mixing with crafty Detroit gangsters, crooked politicians, and the bottom-feeders living off their scraps. This time, instead of chasing down a purse, he must race to save a woman's life and pull the Motor City back from the edge of a simmering mob war.

Filled with vivid characters and crackling wit, The Quiet Edge explores the meaning of family and the lengths we'll go to protect our own.

This is a mystery inasmuch as finding things are a mystery. There is no sex, no gore and very little graphic language. This is not a paranormal story and it’s not exactly a thriller. It’s a bit softer than that but not cozy mystery soft. It was a quick read - an evening of entertainment. There is no cliffhanger and the case is completed.

I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect with this book. I thought it would be the generalized PI searching for something. Kind of the same ol’ same ol’ that we’ve all read before just with different characters. I was mistaken. The start of the book hooked it out of the park right away and pulled me in. It was full of action was a great precursor to the rest of the book. I was rather stumped at where the events unfolding was taking me, but that’s what made the story better. I was supposed to figure it out as the book played out. That’s what kept my attention. I was rather amazed at the direction the story took. It was interesting to watch Jake form although I never guessed he’d go to the length he did.

The name of the main character was Harrison Hart. He did do some of the case work, but never in a million years did I think this case would have taken him from investigator to advisor. It was a very original twist, in my own opinion.
