*** This volume contains books four, five, and six in the Cradle series: Skysworn, Ghostwater, and Underlord, all of which are available separately. ***
With his duel fast approaching, Lindon is locked away in prison. As a Blackflame, he is too dangerous to remain free. The Skysworn, protectors of the Empire, have imprisoned him to keep him under control until the day of his promised fight arrives. When it does, he will face Jai Long. But a new danger approaches the Empire, closer every day. Only the Skysworn stand between the people of the land and total annihilation. And Lindon may be forced to join them.
Second collection > First collection More in the individual reviews haha, eventually I might collect them in these, as I also read the series in the 3-in-1 bundles... Wish they were available in physical form :)
On Amazon someone wrote a 1 star review of the entire series saying "6 books of investment only to have it ruined, utterly, by the writer for cheap plot twist points." After finishing the first six, I'm really curious if book 7 will have the cheap plot twist, or if it was the the sorta twist that happened at the end of book 6. Especially because it's a progression fantasy and it feels like it's easy to look at all the books and say the same thing happens. The character trains, faces overwhelming odds, somehow survives and gets more powerful. Changing it up is a good thing to keep me invested!
For anyone wondering, I didn't think it was cheap, and was foreshadowed and made me excited for some shake-ups I'm now anticipating in book 7.
Some of the fights (in book 4 especially) seemed a little jumpy, and reading it on kindle sometimes it felt like I skipped a page because the temperature and circumstances can change at the drop of a hat.
Overall, I really enjoyed this series so far, and was reading it more than my wife would like since she wants me to read another book, but I keep picking up this instead. Can easily see how this would make up another 6, but it's much harder for me to anticipate how this is going to keep me interested. From other strong reviews though, I'm pretty hopefully.
As a book lover and fantasy reader of every style for 40 years, this is my second favorite series of all time. The author feels no need to waste an entire book like GOT or Wheel of Time on characters no one cares about or to try to “turn fantasy tropes upside down”. He simply creates the most fully formed multiverse and greatest magic system ever, while telling a story of incredibly real characters who constantly evolve beyond your wildest imagination. All while adding humor and not leaving a single loose end or single step that is unbelievable or unsupported. Don’t let the packaging or the lack of buzz from a big publishing house distract from or devalue what Will Wight has created!!
Amazing story, characters and concept. A must read.
I strongly recommend reading the stories in order, starting with book 1 first.
The cradle story arc is a great plot and each individual books adds to the flavour in distinct ways. Out of all the books, the ones this collection are my favourite as we finally start to see the true potential of the protagonists.
Amazing story. Characters that you are emotionally invested and care about. Brilliant humor and emotional moments. The main relationships between focuson friendship and unspoken acts of love.
Book 4 is the weakest, Ghostwater (book 5) is fantastic from beginning to end, and book 6 is a little slow to start but wraps things up nicely. It is overall weaker than books 1 to 3, but is still an amazing story with great pacing and progression. Re-reading this for the 2nd time, I am always amazing by the quality of the progression, and the talent of the author to build up the characters and the story.
I blasted through the first books to get to this set and it has not been disappointing. Hard to sleep when you want to read. Hard to work when you want to read the character development and cultivation were on point the drama with just a little dab of emotion. As far as love aspect that never really blossomed this was just a very well done book. Lots of subplots very well woven
I like the main characters but I am not certain I like the speed of their changes. My mind is boggled by how much worst this story must get. I am beginning to believe that no one will survive ..a sad turn of events if I am right. And in a twist I cannot conceive its ending, I am wondering with whom the main male character will finally turn to as life companion....
I think I bought every book Will write but Cradle by far is my favorite and this series is an awesome way to read 3 books at once and save your money ( I obviously didn't do it and instead bought all of the books so I can read em immediately). If you are just getting into World of Word of Will Wight take this compendium
11th time reading this series, I eagerly await each instalment. Also one of my top 5 series to never be without. It just doesn't get any better, Will Wight is a genius at weaving tales. His characters are lifelike, detailed and you find yourself sharing the emotions of the scenes. Highly recommended to all but plan a weekend to devour them like hunger madra.
If you've read the first three books and enjoyed them, then these are even better. The stakes continue to go up, the abilities are even more insane, the progression is incredibly fun to follow and it's just all around a fantastically fun story.
I do NOT read books like this to read about losers! I am very annoyed I wasted my time on these books, when the hero turns out to be a f…ing LOSER! Even his mentor LOSES the battle you spent books building up to. What a waste!!!
I like having all three volumes in one place. You don’t need to wait for the author t finish the next book and it to be published. Also I can remember the characters and their roles easier. I t helps when you’re 77.
Lindon definitely becomes more of an enjoyable MC once he hits gold- the series is really ramping up now and I love the bloopers that are included at the end of the book lool best book is definitely underlord I think.
Fantastic series. Positively can’t wait to start the next. Wight manages to subvert tropes, bring fresh humor, and maybe even the slowest of slow burns.
I love these books. Yes, they have flaws and aren't perfect. Yes, I wish some of the events were different. But you can't beat these for twists and turns and an unpredictable universe of events!
Fun book. The magic followed set rules that were developed as the plot developed. No random magic to cause discontinuities. These were well crafted books.
Read this books twice as enjoyed it so much and to fix a missed bits story is good writing is good so very happy with my reading experience with this set of books
This set of three really takes the series to another level. Ghostwater is amazing! I really love the characters that are introduced in this collection.
