This was one of my favorite childhood books, I've had it for around 21 years. It's about a love that starts with a desire to be the object of someone's affection and ends with the selfless need to use up oneself to comfort the person whose desire is so extensively sought after.

I loved this book! I had it before my daughter was born, but read it to her so many times, she could practically recite it.
