Beltran Varik believes in science.

It holds all the answers he seeks.

Except for one.

How in the world did he end up falling in love with two werewolves?

Of course, there was no way science could account for the beauty, warmth, and mind-blowing sexiness of Wyatt and River.

The two shifters are outcasts from their own kind and must seek the protection of a vampire.

Bel might take them in out of a need to keep them safe, but his feelings for them grow into something so much deeper.

Unfortunately, Bel might have to choose between his wolves and his family as a fight brews with the local werewolf pack and the Variks face a darker threat from the Ministry.

Waking Bel is the third book in the Lords of Discord paranormal romance series. This book is an MMM and contains vampires, werewolves, nosy brothers, music, science!, Ozzie the raven, so many first times, hope, dirty talk, and a love that will never end.

Really enjoyed this one. I mean vamps and werewolves ?? !! That's a jackpot right there, not to mention the fact that this is also an MMM... deliciousness I say!!

I knew I was gonna enjoy Bel's book more than the previous two (though I enjoyed those as well). And I just know I will probably like Winter's book the most of all... so bring on the wait!!

A wonderful read and ... full review to come soonish ;)

Audio - 5 ++++ Stars!! Thank you Dear Author for getting Kale Williams to continue this series

Story - 4.25 Stars

I thought I was going to have to pass of this series because of the narrator choice of book 1 and 2. Thankfully, the author changed narrators. Yes, I totally skipped book 2 because I just couldn't with the narrator. Thankfully, I didn't feel lost at all when I started back up with book 3.

Rich vampire takes in two homeless werewolves. *sigh* Swoony menage!!! Loved it!

Another total triumph for me in this fantastic paranormal romance series from Jocelynn.

Here it's the turn of Varik scientist Beltran to find his mate, only nothing is as it was with his brothers.

In perfect symmetry, Bel ends up not only with two mates, but with mates from a different species entirely as it becomes clear Wyatt and River are his.

With a dangerous pack alpha on the horizon and expanding fears that what's left of the Vampire Ministry is going to come after the Varik clan, this book races at a steady pace.

Tension-packed, the narrative switches between high octane action and tender scenes between the two werewolves and their new mate.

As with every book in this series so far, there's a self-contained story plot which wraps up within the book, while the overarching tale continues on.

Definitely my favourites so far in what has been an outstanding series.

I cannot wait to find out more about Winter, the youngest Varik and discover who his mate will be as there's been no hints that I can remember!

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

🌟Bel🌟 + 🌟Wyatt🌟 + 🌟River🌟= 6

This was a new adventure for Jocelynn Drake, her first m/m/m, not my first m/m/m but it was my first vampire/werewolf/werewolf or in this case w/v/w, as with the previous books in this series another winner for me, she can certainly write a great throuple.

As soon as I started reading Waking Bel, I was under the Varik spell. Bel, Wyatt and River are cute at the beginning and as soon as they realised they all felt the same chemistry and connection the cuteness turned to scorching dirty passion.

The trouble these three had to conquer to be together was tough and I was scared there for a while for them and especially when Bel and Rafe fell out, I was sad for them, as these two have such a strong connection.

What I love about these books is the connection between the whole Varik clan as they are growing, the banter and teasing between them all made me laugh so much and even Ozzie the raven is lovable.

A scream tore the air, causing them to jump. It had sounded like Ethan’s voice. They hurried out of the music room and to the railing that looked down on the foyer in time to see Ethan run into the open space, followed by a cawing and flapping Ozzie. “Bel! That bird is crazy!” Ethan shouted. “Bloody black chicken,” Rafe grumbled as they watched Ozzie circle the two-story open air, gaining altitude until he could finally land on Bel’s shoulder. The bird looked at Bel for only a second then turned his attention to River and started cawing angrily and flapping his wings. “Holy shit! Why’s he pissed at me?” River demanded. He backpedaled a few feet before grabbing Rafe and holding him in front of his body as protection. “I’m not your shield!” Rafe cried. “Really, Ozzie! It’s not their fault. It was a misunderstanding. No, I—”

See funny, Bel doesn't need a guard dog he has Ozzie, I hope we get to find out what Ethan's gift is in the next Varik adventure.

I am super excited for Winter's book and finally getting to know the mysterious wee one better and I have no clue who will steal his heart, I also have my 🤞 that Aiden will get a second chance at love, PLEASE Jocelynn.

So...I definitely didn't start this series in order. Sue me 🤣. No regrets.

This was a fun, adorable, emotional 3some romance with a vampire & 2 werewolves! The action was good, not too much also. Bloody great, hehe.

When I found this series, I wanted to check this book out as it's a MMM & I'm kinda biased to those. When I started this, I had no intention of finishing...but I well, did. I actually didn't read the 1st few chaps to not spoil of previous books, I guess? But from the chap Bel takes Wyatt & River in, I was all in. I think I also know the circumstances of 1st few chaps, concurring from later chaps.

I'm not gonna write big reviews even If I read the later ones, cause I'm sure curious about Winter's magic, one day, I sure will write a big review when I read this series from start. For now, a few words:

Bel is a quirky, adorable, virgin scientist vamp who's so damn fierce to protect those he cares for.
Wyatt & River were casted from their pack for being gay, in love. Then suffered so much. Wyatt is a protector, alpha while River is funny, sweet. They're both so kind, honourable.

Their relationship growth is so natural, like friends to lover as Bel took them in. Loved seeing them opening up to eachother! I'm happy that they all knew it's more than sex when they came together. The convos were good! Sex is goddamn hot 🔥🔥🔥.

Of course there's the threat of Vampire ministry, local pack. Attacks. Things that threatened to tear them apart. But they were handled well. The Vamp ministry one is definitely a series suspense, which I need more info on 👀. Their HEA is so beautiful ♥️.

I also loved all the scenes with Bel's family. They're so great!! I'm liking this so much. I will check out the next books before the previous ones. To ease my curiosity, ahem.

This is probably my favorite book so far in the series. It's been slowly growing on me for each book. Don't get me wrong. It's still a little too gory for my taste but it was the first time that I thought it made sense. I loved that there was a little more focus on Bel and his two mates in this book and the bigger story line (that will probably run through all the books) took the backseat. It was a well needed breather, at least for me.

Well, I am not exactly sure what I expected from Bel’s book but I don’t think this was it.

Truth. When I went to grab the book I was a little shocked that it was going to be a M/M/M book. Personally, that is not my thing but there are times where I’m ok with it and sometimes even enjoy it. I figured since I have been enjoying these brothers that would be the case here. So, just getting that out there that I knew there would be a chance this book wouldn’t work for me for that reason alone.

As weird as this will sound, I’m pleased this wasn’t the only reason and not even really the main reason this just didn’t work for me. I don’t really like disliking a book based on my tastes when I chose to read it anyway, so, I was kind of relieved sort of?

Anyway, I didn’t really dig this one. I didn’t feel the connection and maybe that’s because there were three of them but I’m not completely sold on that idea. I just didn’t feel it. I understood the safety that Wyatt and River were getting from Bel and I totally understood the companionship Bel was getting from them but the love, the heat? I don’t know.

I think there was a lot that didn’t add up to me. There was a lot that didn’t make sense. I really didn’t understand the banishment. Then, I didn’t understand how it seemed like there was only a ten year difference between Wyatt and River but most of the time River was referred to like a child and most of all, I did not understand what went down with the wolves and the McGregor’s (I think this is the right Clan name). That went on for ten years? So for ten years they were wolves, pets? I have many questions, none of which were really answered. And lastly, the Pack in this book. How is all this going on and no one knows? There were just a lot of holes.

But, my least favorite thing about this book and what I really, really struggled with this time, was one specific part of the writing. I cringed every single time they said our Bel and same with my Wyatt or my River. I couldn’t stand it. It was even going on with Rafe and Philippe. Bel constantly referred to Rafe’s mate as your Philippe. I don’t recall it bothering me in the last books or if it happened, but this go round, ugh and truthfully, it was done a lot!

So, I didn’t love this one, but I also didn’t hate it, it just didn’t work.

To say I am nervous about Winter’s book is an understatement. I’ve been anxious for his book and I hope it lives up to my expectations.

By far the best one yet.

I love the Varik brothers and their clan. And despite finding the previous two books slow I’m so glad I stuck with this. Who am I kidding? I was always going to stick with it. I’ve been intrigued by Winter from the get-go. But I’m getting ahead of myself this is Bel’s book. And it’s a good one.

Beltran Varik is the scientist of the family. He spends all his time in his lab working away. His gift is the ability to communicate and understand animals.

It’s beautiful that he not only finds love. But finds love with two amazing Werewolves.

Like I said this is the best book of the three. Although I can’t wait for Winter.

Of the three books out in this series, this one is the middling one in terms of quality. I think the M/M/M dynamic really kept me from getting too into the story as well as the two werewolf characters being a little too flat and meek in comparison to the two werewolf series' I read right before this book. It's a bit of a disappointment because I really liked Bel in the past books and it felt kind of out of character to go from being presumably asexual and a 200 year old virgin to suddenly being in a ménage à trois with werewolves he's known for less than a month. In the past books, I was hoping Drake would keep the asexual aspect and go with it, making a really cute romance between Bel and whoever that didn't need to rely on sex but they went the opposite way with it.
I'm a little worried about what Winter's story will be since he seems really interesting and I hope it doesn't shatter my expectations.

I was an alpha reader for this book and let me tell you, I loved it. Bel is so very much the absent minded professor and badass at the same time. It's amazing. The pacing of his relationship with his two wolves is great. I'm in love all over again with this series.

Just when I thought this series could not get any better - I read the third book. And now THIS ONE is my favorite in the series. Heck, it's one of the best vampire/werewolf menage stories I have read in quite some time.

Bel is the third Varik vampire brother, and we've seen him since the beginning. He's the bow-tie wearing mad scientist, who is quirky and inquisitive and believes in all things science. He'd been researching a possible "cure" for vampirism for those who were turned against their will, and with his mother in mind. Now that his mother has passed, he's still continuing research.

Wyatt and River are two werewolves who up until the end of book 2, had been controlled by another vampire clan. Now they are seeking protection and they seek out Bel for possible assistance. While Bel doesn't want to possess werewolves, he does offer them protection - temporary at first. However, these three once they are together? FIRE. sexycrazyhot chemistry together, and things start spiraling past friendship and protection.

I LOVED Wyatt and his strength, River and his youthful optimism and vitality, and how naturally they just fell for Bel and he fell for them. I love that they thought the world of Bel, loved his nerdy quirks and inquisitive nature, and that it just seemed so right to fall for each other. There were so many lovely moments between the three mixed in with all that heat and chemistry. I just loved their story.

Of course, I absolutely LOVED getting to see the Varik family all together again. I adore Ethan and his energy, I love that Rafe gives Bel so much crap, I absolutely love all the brotherly ribbing and jokes between them all. They're badass vampires and still tease each other relentlessly.

Throughout the romance there is also the overall plot of the Ministry of vampires, making new alliances, learning more about the history of werewolves and vampires, and the continual building to what will definitely be Variks vs. Ministry. I can't wait. And I can't wait for Winter's story - the last brother needs a mate!

HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended! Start in order and enjoy!

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

“There are no martyrs in family. We stick together. Protect each other”.

Tercera parte de Lords of Discord.

“Never question that. You deserved to be happy and to have the life you dreamed of”.

Al final ocurrió todo lo contrario. Me encantó. Incluso creo que está mejor que la primera novela. Me han gustado los personajes y la historia, aunque se me ha quedado un poco corta. Me esperaba un poco más de desarrollo entre ellos. Pero, en general estoy contenta.

I am never giving up”.

I'm really enjoying this whole series. I liked the introduction of the shifters in this one. Bel is lost in science of everything, he's most comfortable in his laboratory. He's also determined not to acknowledge the wolves who've followed him home after their last battle. The last thing he expected was to find out those wolves were more than that and they peak not only his scientific interest, but his interest as a man as well. I really enjoyed watching Bel try to resist the duo of Wyatt and River. They may have been together for awhile, but the knew meeting Bel that he was exactly what they needed.

There's a war brewing and the alliances are growing. I particularly enjoyed the expanding world and can't wait to see how the war within the vampires comes down as the Varik's establish themselves as a strong clan.

Gahhh so IN LOVE with this series

We finally get sweet Bel’s story! And I am in LOVE!
We find out werewolves are real, and our favorite scientist manages to find not one, but two for himself.
River and Wyatt were lost and broken, but also strong and full of love, exactly what Bel needed, but he was exactly what they needed too.
The chemistry and love in off the charts. And the adventure and action is A+ as it always is with Jocelynn Drake.
We continue to get wrapped around the main plot, and wow wow wow, Winter’s book is going to be fire! I fell in love with Winter and Rafe even more, and our papa vamp definitely needs a book of his own after Winter’s.
Absolute love this one!

AUDIOBOOK: Kale did an amazing job! Loved it! The accents! Amazing!

Jocelynn Drake has outdone herself yet again with this fantastic third installment of the Lords of Discord series. Bel, Wyatt, and River stole my heart, especially Bel with his huge heart. This book had me all over the place with the feels, laughing and crying and everything in between, and when I ended it was with a huge smile on my face (and a muttered “I need Winter’s book right now, why isn’t it August”, but I digress). The relationship between Bel and werewolf mates Wyatt and River is built slowly and organically, and when they finally ignite, I thought my kindle might go up in flames. So hot.

I also loved diving deeper into Aiden’s history as well as vampire lore. The addition of werewolves (and others) to this series just adds more compelling layers to the rich, detailed world Jocelynn Drake has created. I was glued to my kindle from start to finish with this one, just completely and utterly fascinated with Bel’s mind, the werewolf/vampire history, learning more about Winter, and so much more. This book has everything I could have asked for (and more) and is undoubtedly a five-star read for this girl.

Read this book guys! But only after the first two - not a standalone. This series gets better and better, and I CANNOT WAIT for Winter’s book now! Is it August yet? Can it be? ...Please?

Honestly not much happens in this book, it's more of a bridge from the build up of books one and two, and what I assume will be the culmination of the ongoing war plot in books four and five.

Bel and his wolves were something new, and it set up the story for the Varik's gaining allies and putting themself in a stronger position against the big bad, but yeah, it's basically just a slow pace and a fight with some wolves... Bel was more of a side character and this book was more about introducing werewolves, finding out werewolf culture and customs, and learning about Wyatt and River's backstory and family ties. Bel was just there providing a home, financial support, career advice...he felt more like a mentor or benefactor than a lover a lot of the time.

I did like that we saw more of Winter's gift though. I'm very curious to get to his story and I imagine he's going to play a bigger role in the showdown than most of the other brothers.

The book was not too bad. It had some hilarious moments, a bit of sweetness and a whole lot of Variks running around. I like reading about them as a family. The mating trio of Wyatt, River and Bel had a good chemistry. It was a bit too insta for me and there were a tad too many syrupy moments that were meh. The middle of the book dragged a bit but then suddenly picked up. I liked the ending and will go on to read Winter's story.

Bel is an interesting character. He's the antithesis of the vampire stereotype. Sweet, soft hearted, sensitive, uninterested in anything that isn't his family, his music and his science. The fact that he gets the most atypical relationship (not one, but two werewolves!), gives the book a bit of extra bit of spice.

I liked this installment. Bel is so sweet and I loved Wyatt and River. I don't really have much more to say but I am taking a mini break from this series and coming back with a fresh mind for Winter's book because he might be my favorite Varik? Other than Daddy Aiden. And his powers seem SO COOL.

Absolutely fantastic read.

In this instalment of the series, the resident “mad scientist” vampire brother gets his well earned HEA.
Bel, Wyatt and River are such great characters and it’s so easy to fall in love with them.
I just love Bel, he’s adorable yet fierce, loyal and compassionate.
Wyatt and River are outcasts from werewolf society and are just what Bel needs to start living beyond his laboratory.
There’s drama and action, angst that had me wiping away tears, tender moments, humour, plenty of chemistry and lots of steam. Not to forget the overriding love for family.
All the brothers and partners are once again included and the overall story arc continues.
I’m very much looking forward to the next instalment which is Winter’s story.

This is Beltran Varik's book, Rafe's twin brother. Bel is the "mad-evil" scientist of the Varik-clan and is the happiest when he is experimenting in his lab.
But he can't believe it when he is approached by the two wolves who fought against them when they clashed with the vampires who were ought to kidnap Philippe Arsenault.

“Who could have foreseen the day when Bel would have two mates?”

The characters in this book, Wyatt & River together with Bel, were amazing and sympathetic. Inspite of Bel's feelings that these beautiful men couldn’t possibly want him he can't help to fall deeply for them too. The sex scenes are scorching hot! The love between these men is palpable, in words and actions.
Being a vampire demure Bel has done the unthinkable to take two wolf-mates.

But it seems he is not alone in that, because Sophia Montgomery, the leader of the Montgomery clan, which the Variks have an alliance with, visits to introduce her own mate. David Montgomery. A werewolf and member of the Montgomery clan and Wyatt's brother.

Looking forward to Winter's book, I do hope that we will learn more about “The war that’s coming in the vampire world. Damon and what’s left of the Ministry won’t be happy until the Variks are dead.”

Reread 11/22/2022 I enjoyed rereading this, but the errors were still annoying. There was a point where Bel was playing his cello that I noticed that it was worded as if Bel may have been a left handed cellist (bow in the left hand as opposed to the right). It struck me as odd and pulled me out of the story. Even the cover picture has the man with the bow correctly placed in his right hand. (Yes, these things stand out to me because I come from a large musical family, and several of us played stringed instruments.)

I did like that time passed before Bel and his wolves were declaring their undying love. It never felt awkward between the three men. Wyatt was very protective of Bel and River, but you saw that trait between all of them. I loved seeing more interaction with Aiden too. The scene with “Drunk Bel” was one of my favorites.

There was a point where I was sick of the sex parts and just wanted more meat to the story. Everything wrapped up so quickly. I’m leaving my rating at 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

Original thoughts 5/31/2020-6/1/2020

4.5 stars - I’m taking off a half star for all the errors/typos/missing words in this book. At one point, the wrong name was even used. It was disappointing to see that much sloppiness in a book by this author.

Other than that, Bel’s story was everything I wanted. He’s my favorite Varik. Now I’m looking forward to Winter’s story and seeing how everything with the Ministry is dealt with.

Fantastic series! Maybe it won’t end after Winter’s book we’ll get more of Aiden’s back story. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Holy Cannoli!! I finished Waking Bel (Lords of Discord #3/KU) by Jocelynn Drake last night and it was FANFREAKINTASTIC. I devoured this book in one sitting! Each book just gets better and better. I am such a newbie to this genre and have fallen in love with it!! Let me tell you, I did not read the blurb when I grabbed the ARC. All I knew in advance is that this is sweet, nerdy, bow-tie wearing Bel’s story. I had NO idea it was MMM with 2 wolves and a vampire no less! I was like a kid in a candy store as the story progressed! An absolutely gorgeous read, I fell in love with Bel, Wyatt and River and how they fell in love. Jocelynn has taken such care with regards to character development in each book. I am in love with Varik family and their mates. So SEXY HOT, it is definitely going in to my panty-melting good reads shelf! 🤣Jocelynn’s snarky humor is ever present, and I was on the edge of my seat more than once! The secondary characters are FABULOUS!! This one definitely goes in to my top MMM reads pile. I can not wait for Winter's story and I’m hoping for a HEA for Aiden as well!! I recommend you read the series in order, you won't be disappointed!! GAH Go forth and click!!!

To be fair, I think the problem is me. Because I liked the first book of this series, and despite the instalove I kind of liked the second as well.
But this one. Oh man, it was so cheesy.
And it bored me to death, because the author repeated everything from each point of view. How many times did she say that River and Wyatt were each other's everything, and then they met Bel and he became their everything as well? How many times a character repeated in his head whatever happened to the three of them since the beginning of the book?
There should be a limit. It's not written in stone that you have to reach 300+ pages every single time, especially not like this.

Bel and his wolves are adorable

Look, this isn't going to be a proper review because I've already raved and fangled about this series when I reviewed the first two books. I've talked about the great characters and storyline. I talked about the relationships and the hot smut. This book is no exception so there's not too much for me to say that I haven't already said. It's just a d@mn good series.

I will say that I think this is the smuttiest book, which is surprising because it's Bel's book. His family, aside from Rafe (kind of), mostly treats him like he's Ace. In fact, I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's some form of aspec since Wyatt and River are the first time he's shown any interest in anyone. Nothing's explicitly said but I'll take the representation where I can.

These books have always balance the overarching storyline with the self-contained storyline and the budding relationship really well. This one had some extra lifting to do with the fact that the world has been expanded to not just vampires but werewolves as well. The book is a little longer because now we've got three people we're focusing on but make no mistake the pacing is still on point and at no point do we enter info dump territory. I'm honestly kind of in awe.

As with the other books the humor never shortchanges the emotions or darker tone, but there is a level of extra angst with this one, especially where Wyatt and River are concerned. You know an HEA is on the horizon but you don't know how so every bump these three encounter just hits that much hard. Especially that one towards the end that felt like my heart was being ripped out. (You know a book is good when it's been out for years and I'm still trying not to spoil it). Point is, this is a hard fought HEA, one of these characters more than deserve.

Final thoughts, I'm really enjoying the overarching storyline more than I thought I would when I first started the series. This is a series that if you really wanted to you could read it out of order but you honestly probably shouldn't. I'm not sure how much you'll understand/ appreciate things. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite PNR series and if you give it a chance, it probably will become one of yours too.
