Omega's Luck #1

Expecting You

Rate this book
Lost—one precious embryo. If found, return to Beckett Rayne, worried alpha father…

Beckett has one last chance to save his son—by giving Luca a sibling. But the clinic makes a fateful mistake: they implant the embryo into a stranger. With Luca running out of time, Beckett will do whatever he can to find his unborn baby. The only light in this crazy situation is Zac, their new nanny. Sweet, funny, and a good listener, he’s the best thing to happen to their little family in a long time. But as they grow closer, Beckett starts to fall for him, and risks ruining everything if he can’t keep himself in check.

“Only you could walk into a clinic for contraception and leave with a baby.”

All Zac wants is to be able to hold down a job, unburdened by his wildly erratic omega hormones. With the help of his best friend, he gets the implant he needs to put his life back together—or so he thinks. Now that everything is finally falling into place, he takes a position as nanny to a new family: Luca, a little boy who needs a lot of love, and Beckett, a lonely alpha father with the weight of the world on his shoulders. But Zac is at risk of breaking the first rule of nannying: never fall in love with your employer. And then he discovers the impossible: he’s pregnant.

Expecting You is an omegaverse shifter romance with a happy ending. It features an adorable toddler, a zany best friend, mpreg, and a baby that tangles everything together in the worst—and best—possible way. There are some scenes not suitable for readers under the age of eighteen, and this story deals with themes of childhood illness and surrogacy.

2★'s = it was ok.

This poor book had so much working against it I just couldn’t get over any of it to find real enjoyment.

I didn’t think the insurance fraud was funny or ok. I didn’t find the errors at the clinic at all ok and they seemed to just be swept away like it was! Dead spouse, enough said. Sick child who needs a sibling to save his life. All of it was just too much and I never enjoyed any of it.

The next one might be interesting, the whole muse but I hate you thing could work. Maybe I'll give it a try.

I will continue my search for the perfect Alpha and Omega romance until I die.

Fun and sweet, a comfort read through and through.
There is some expected predictability of course, but it never got boring and had a nice flow to it. I enjoyed the characters and the overall setting, though I could have done with a little more world building. And what was that mini heat thing during pregnancy all about? Totally unnecessary, he could have simply been hormonal and horny without any of that illogical extra, lacking all explanation. But oh well, it wasn't all that plot relevant anyway.
I enjoyed this and will be back for more.

Nice

This was a nice feel good story. Where the characters worked through their problems, actually talked. It had hurt and comfort, great best friends and so much love. Cuteness. The writing was great the smexy was nice and the side characters, well they are the next book so I can’t wait to read it

This mpreg-shifter book was a mixed bag of likes & dislikes. I felt a low level of irritation while reading, which thankfully decreased as the story went on, ending better than it started.

The MCs:

Beckett: alpha / architect / widower / Lucas's father. Lucas, a toddler with a serious condition, needs stem cells or a bone marrow transplant. A surrogate is carrying a second child for umbilical cord stem cells.

Zac is an omega who's a nanny. He has hyper-heats, uncontrolled heat cycles. He needs a birth control implant to manage his condition and live normally.

MAIN PLOT:
A clinic mix-up leads Zac to undergo IVF instead of a birth control implant. He becomes Lucas's nanny while unknowingly carrying Beckett's baby. As they spend time together, the MCs fall in love.

It takes a while for the MCs to learn about the mix-up. It's resolved by .

LIKES:
🟊 Waiting for the mix-up to be discovered and see how it all worked out.
🟊 The satisfying ending: Zac has the baby, and then the MCs get .
🟊 Minimal swearing.
🟊 The sweet romance which contains two, low to medium-steam sex scenes.
🟊 Zac's BFF, Harper, an omega. He's a great friend who's also funny.

DISLIKES:
🔻 The sluggish pacing caused by lengthy dialogue, explanations, dull activities, and extended scenes.
🔻 The alpha MC acted more like a beta. Confident, but not dominant, and very careful about equal rights.
🔻 No descriptions of anyone or anything.
🔻 The angry hoodlum on the book cover doesn't match either MC.

🔻 The author pushed choice and omega/women's rights. I hate being educated.
▪️But it was a stranger. Their body: their choice.
▪️Your body, your choice.
▪️"I know it's my choice, because it's in my body."
▪️"You didn't sign up to be a human incubator. Your body, your choice."

Meh. I can forgive almost anything for mpreg. And I never expect much from omegaverses but this was seriously bland and all over the place. The Alpha and Omega barely spoke for like 12 chapters and then they kiss for some reason and proceed to forget about it for a couple chapters and then get together for no reason, like, they didn’t even think of each other that way aside from some fleeting thoughts of: wtf, I shouldn’t kiss my employee/employer, but, whatever, probably just hormones and being caught up in the moment and I honestly believe that more than they were attracted to each other. Like, no sexual tension, no feelings, no nothing and next thing you know, they’re exchanging I love yous? Which I don’t really mind as long as I get hot mpreg sex that doesn’t turn me on because I’m ace but that I’m weirdly obsessed with—but, meh, it was dull. No sparks.

So much potential :/

Expecting you is a good start for a short chick fleek kind of romantic series. It is short, I read it in about a day without having to miss any sleep and had fun the entire time.

It does have some issue with the plot, besides my personal permanent confusion when it comes to male pregnancies (no, seriously, how do they even work??? how do the deliveries WORK?!) which are never really explained. There's an issue with medical fraud that isn't really addressed by the end of the book and I think this iffy cause it's a delicate thing. An issue of a small child sick with an immuno-compromising disease, compared in the book to cancer. This is key to the plot and development of the romantic relationship so I was surprised at how little research and development it was given.

Particularly I felt thrown off by some things I could call... plotholes? Like family members mentioned out of the blue whose presence would've changed things COMPLETELY at the beginning of the book or one whose attitude implies a different social-economic background for a character who had in the beginning implied a different kind of situation.

Worldbuilding is vague... it works, but because of how much I liked the characters and my issues with the plot I would've liked more or at least more depth to what I was given.

BUT because of the light nature of this novella I'm confortable saying that if you ignore those things it can be quite nice to read. Speaking of nice, I was entertained by the humor, romance, sweetness, even the kid was endearing. The romance was good, natural and surprisingly slow paced for a book this short.

Becket is the cool hard worker and amazing sweet daddy. I loved how he grows, learning how to better parent and accepting his growing feelings for Zack without much drama and a whole lot of down to earth attitude, albeit helped by his best friend.

Zack is the common yet lovable classic omega character. I liked how he's pretty much OMEGA but isn't a weak damsel in distress, smart, dedicated, passionate, sensible, loyal and professional. Him falling in love was also classic omega romance but I think the kind of character Becket is drove the pace into something less cliche and great to read.

I really liked how the pregnancy, while another classic troupe of romantic literature it was handle in it's own way.

Overall, yes, it has some things I found confusing, lacking or distracting but it still is a book worth the read. I do recommend it. I'm not sure about buying it? Me, myself? Yeah, cause I like chick flicks and I will TOTALLY re-read this one. I'm a sucker for marshmallow romances.

I luuuurrrrvvvvvssssss me some Claire Cullen!!!!

Every once in a while she and I have a miss, but when we work we work guud!!! 🙂

This one worked for me, but probably not in the intended way. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I mean, I liked Zac and Beckett (I did NOT like his name, if I read it too fast it's like reading BUckett but whatevz.) I liked him enough as an alpha though, and I liked his relationship with Zac, although it felt a tad stilted, I'm guessing because of how it started.

Something just felt a little off in their coming together. They went from

description

yeaaaahhhh, I felt like we missed a couple of the steps on page (and not in the trying-to-keep-little-eyes-and-ears-from-knowing-what-daddy's-doing-with-his-free-time way)!

description

That being said, what worked for me was Luca and Zac. They both stole my heart!!! 🥰😭😭😫🥰😍❤

But the star of this show UNDOUBTEDLY for me, was Harper, I want to steal him and keep him for myself!!!

Here in is my version of Harper:

description

description

"Don't feel too sorry for him. You got the short end of the stick. His only lasts five years. Yours hangs around for eighteen-plus."

Don't get me wrong, I liked Zac... I just feel like Harper's talents are wasted on him, he'd serve better as my BFF! #justsaying!

That being said, I can't wait to get to his book... onto the next one!

This book is a good start to a short chick flick kind of romance series. It's short and had fun the entire time.

I do find some issues with the plot, besides my personal permanent confusion when it comes to male pregnancies (no, seriously, how does it even work??!!!) which are never really explained. There are problems with medical fraud committed that isn't addressed to its completion as it should have been. Then a child sick with an immune-compromising disease, compared in the book with Cancer, that gets "taken care of" by the end in a too off handed way. I felt the author should've done a bit more research in all these to give them a proper close.

Also some family members mentioned out of the blue that could've been there before... for financial support? And could have had a great deal of weight on the books main plot. Worldbuilding is vague... but it works, mostly because the story centers on the main characters and their relationship, not much else.

But because of the light sweet emotional natural of this novella I think it works in the end. It has some nice humor, sweet romance, a rather endearing kid, natural development of relationships despite a hots-for-each-other-at-first-sight kind of deal, not so much drama and entertaining side characters. So while not a perfect book I would totally recommend it if what you're looking for is something romantic, light, short to give yourself a nice time. 3 stars!

From uncontrollable heats to pregnant... What's a nanny to do!?

What a stunning first book in a new series. I was drawn in from the first pages. This world is vibrant and alive, the characters well thought out and intriguing. Yes, serious issues are dealt with, but they only add to the depth of the story. There is something for everyone: humor, angst, joy, passion, compassion, and an adorable little boy. What's not to love!
All Zac wants is to stop his uncontrollable heats. But a screw- up at the clinic leaves him pregnant instead of with a birth control implant. When he finds out the child belongs to his new boss, what's a nanny to do? Beckett needs a baby from the embryos saved from his late husband to preform a life saving procedure on his son Luca. He never expects his new nanny, who he has fallen for, to be the recipient. Oh the complications!
Zac fears trouble about medical fraud. But he must come clean and do the right thing so Luca can live. Beckett must juggle work, Luca, the clinic & Zac. Add in shifting to your cat forms and the circle comes together. HEA is assured. You will love this book!
This book deals with
using the birth of one child to save the life of another. It is not judgemental, rather it is done with dignity.
This book contains adult themes and language,mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.

Claire Cullen has done it again

I’ve always liked Claire’s books. This one I felt was done in a more subtle way. She wasn’t very descriptive about the characters which I find amazing. I’m a guilty reader of only reading some books in which I feel like I can relate to in a way.
I was hesitant about the whole book at first and while reading it I saw how big of a heart zac had. My insecurities started acting up thinking Zac will never truly be loved by Beckett he will always be second best next to Darcy. You start to wish that the baby was actually genetically zac’s.
But after thinking about the whole situation of the story you learn to appreciate what zac is doing for Beckett. Despite everything Beckett is still allowed to love zac and bring him into their crazy family.
I felt like for me this book was about overcoming insecurities and trusting yourself that there is always happiness waiting for everyone even those you might expect to never happen to.

Delightful

This was a cute story. I'm always a bit leery going into a Claire Cullen books because she really like to make her character suffer sometimes before she gives them their HEA. Some of the most heart wrenching stories I've read were cullen's omegas. Thankfully aside from Luca and his illness there wasn't as much dark as some of her series'.

This was a sweet romance that gets your heart racing and brings a smile to your face. Luca was such a sweet kid! Can't wait for Harper's story! This whole situation was just a massive jungle of coincidence and luck. Not in a "could never happen" way either. It's unlikely but honestly not out of the realm of possibility. I think that's what made this whole thing better.

Loved all the characters. Loved the plot. Loved the whole dang thing took to bottom. Can't wait for the next one!!

Unexpectedly Sweet Manny Tale

Wow I didn't EXPECT that the first book in the Omega's Luck series, would be so poignant, antsy, and full of unexpected surprises. This was a Manny story, but the author choose to label them Nannies. What got everything started was an Omega who worked as a Nanny, whose future career was jeopardized by unexpected prolonged Heats. Something drastic had to be done.

Well it was a catastrophic screw-up that ended up occurring, but at least the Nanny was no longer suffering from the effects of his uncontrollable Heats. The main characters were placed in heartwretching situations. There were a set of important secondary characters that really helped to carry the story along. They brought humor, friendship, conflict, and tension. I look forward to some of these secondary characters having their own stories.

This is a delightful start to a new series and I loved it. Expecting You is well written, sweet, emotional, fun, has little angst, deals well with some difficult issues, the world building is excellent and the characters are amazing. Zac is such a sweetheart and I love how he doesn't let anything get him down for long. Beckett is a wonderful dad doing the best that he can to look after his young ill son. When he hires Zac to be Luca's nanny he has no idea how many surprises are in store for both of them. They are exactly what the other needs and I love how their relationship evolves. The secondary characters are great, I love the ending and I can't wait to read the next book in this new and entertaining series.

A heartwarming read

A fantastic story that pulls you in and hooks you from the first page. I cannot wait for the next in the series.
Zac feels he is starting to get his life back after his medical procedure, no more life limiting heats and a new nanny job he loves.
Beckett is struggling to keep everything together, Luca his son needs treatment to save his life and after finding out the clinic has made a catastrophic mistake and may have lost his only chance.
Zac has grown to love Luca his little charge as well as his gorgeous dad, but when he discovers the clinic have made a mistake it could mean the end of everything he is starting to love.
Will these men be able to pull together and give each other and Luca the family they all deserve.

WOW! That was a lot of sadness! Beckett is a widowed Alpha with a sick toddler who needs stem cells and possibly a bone marrow transplant. Zac is an Omega who goes to a clinic for contraception and when HUGE mistake happens, he ends up pregnant through IVF.

Beckett needs a new nanny for his sick son, Luca. He hires Zac when he and Luca hit it off. Slowly Beckett realizes the new nanny is just his type. Zac realizes the same but they both know that nothing can happen.

Turns out the embryo implanted in Zac was from Beckett and his late husband. When this information is finally discovered, everything changes.

I actually really liked the story itself, it was the main reason I kept reading, however the romance left a lot to desire. There was no chemistry between the couple, and the build up until they get into a relationship felt flat with no real feelings. They just kissed out of nowhere, when they only shared a few conversations. Ultimately, I thought their family was cute, but I still feel that it missed on that aspect. Besides that, I found the whole situation an interesting set up, while a bit cliche I still wanted to know how things would get resolved. I was satisfied. One thing for sure is that MC's best friend was the best character and the most likeable one.

Zac and Beckett

Not your typical high angst novel, this author knew that we are in the mood for somewhat lighter fare. Settle in with this book, because you won’t be disappointed. There is definitely a small bit of angst given the topic, and I was on the edge of my seat for a while. Zac and Beckett were seemingly made for each other and work well as a team. A team Luca needs desperately. I loved Zac’s innate ability to be just what Luca needs him to be. He’s also exactly what Beckett needs. I’m excited to see what is in store for us with book 2. Harper’s story, I hope!

So...overall I enjoyed this it was a very quick read. But I guess that's also the problem. It feels like we were chugging along steadily and then all of sudden we were doing wrap up. I feel like I didn't get enough of our MC's TOGETHER after they decided to be together, we just hopped right on to the big things and then it was over. It felt rushed out of nowhere and that is hard for me to digest. I liked the characters enough and I'm intrigued by the 2nd book, can't wait to learn more about it. I like this author but it's also kind of hit or miss that I'll LOVE it or meh.

ALL the feels!

prepare yourself to suspend disbelief at the unlikely coincidence that made this story what it is. If you do that and you love omegaverse, then you can't help but enjoy Zac and Beckett's story!

They are so sweet and so hot together. Luca's story brought tears to my eyes, but the HEA made it totally worth it. This book is low angst and the end sets us up for a likely story about Harper and William.

A very refreshing change up to the Nanny/Manny-boss trope :) definitely recommend.

DNF at about 40%. There's another review on here that I ignored (mistake, obviously) that says something along the lines of how this doesn't really feel like a romance, and that the first kiss between the two MMCs comes out of nowhere. Very, very apt. It really DID come out of the blue, and it's such a bummer because if Cullen had sprinkled just a little bit of introspection in leading up to the kiss, or any hint of attraction between the two MMCs, it would have made a lot more sense. Instead, the whole interaction felt wooden and uncomfortable.

Cute omegaverse m/m romance

Zac is a professional nanny unemployed due to missing so much work due to excessively frequent heats. He finally gets a chance to gets an expensive contraception device implant unfortunately using another man's insurance (with his permission). A mix up at the clinic has him implanted with an embryo instead. He gets a new job with Beckett as a nanny to his sick toddler. Things get very complicated with angst, secrets and budding love. Times of tears and joy onto our HEA. Highly recommended.

I hate unnecessary drama and the whole misunderstanding of the pregnancy dragged on forever!!! I mean most of the damn book. The book would have been 5 thousand times better if that wrapped up about 20% but nope. It seriously went on n on n on. To the point i zoned out, i was so over the the disconnect and disintrest and tip toeing around between the MC's .. no one reads mm ROMANCE for there to be no chemistry between mc, for the mcs so disconnected. You read it to see connection build. Want them to succeed. Sigh.

This was such a cute book! It was fluffy, and fun, and romantic, and who doesn’t enjoy a manny romance? I enjoyed the world building as well, because this is a shifter romance featuring a society that thinks that shifting is uncouth and something you should grow out of.

There was enough tension to keep the plot from becoming boring, but pretty much zero angst. A perfect read to cheer up a gray day.

Spectacular

From beginning to end it was very hard to put the book down!!! It caught you up in the story and you were hooked. The Mc's were lovable and charming. Both Zac and Bennett were played off of each other really well and moved the plot along in a way that is kinda rare but oh so well done!!! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance with little angst and lots of love!!!

A lot of twists and turns to HEA!!

This is a shifter (barely) romance with mpreg, it is the first in a series that should be read in order! What a couple!! If you’ve gotten to reading the reviews, do I’ll skip the back of book blurb but this was one interesting story! I loved this couple together, I could read more, and there was so many interesting, unexpected surprises that the book was enjoyable. Be sure to keep the tissues around for a few of the scenes!

DNF @67% automatically 3 stars.

Noping out as soon as the ILYs dropped out of literally nowhere. Meh. I can forgive much & suspend all belief during MPreg... but there were no interactions between the couple nor could "mating/fated mates" be used as a plot device.

They interacted with the kid. That's it.

Syrupy sweet, omega acting as TSTL damsel that we MM readers don't like in MF novels, so why like it in an MM novel? TBH, I never understand this phenomenon.
