Sometimes, you’ve got to take a job with the devil to pay the bills…
Too bad I learned too late the devil wears Armani, is the most uptight man in the history of history, and I just signed an unbreakable contract shackling me to his pompous royal side for the summer.
But God, he’s got this British accent that makes my panties melt.
Until the words he says catch up with my brain and make me want to throw one of his precious vases at his head.
One minute we’re fighting––and the next—we can't keep our hands off each other. Because somehow, when Mr. Blue Eyes is kissing me, he makes me forget how much he annoys me.
And that starts a whole new level of complications I. Don’t. Need.
Cuz if you dance with the devil, someone’s gonna end up getting burned...

Thank you to the publishers for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I admit it took me far too long to get to this story - it was the perfect romance read I was looking for. It's so cute and fluffy and I really enjoyed it.

If you like royalty, balls but irl then this is for you - it's very cute. I keep saying it but it's true. There's a lot of pining and dogs. A LOT OF DOGS. And blushing. It's an adorable romance read with a pretty good plot. It's somewhat of a slow burn, though I can't say it feels like one.

The plot is ok - I get it's not supposed to be realistic but a few things i'm like 'hmm that's a stretch' but I enjoyed it nonetheless and a girl like me never stops dreaming of being a princess and this story gives that to you.

The writing is also okay - not great but good. I know you should show, not tell in writing but this showed too much. So much blushing and hiding behind hair.

Now characters - Gavin is cute, charming, you name it. But so much jaw clenching! The characters in this book struggle with self control and decision making. It's all a part of the story - I get that and it really does make the story but scenes were so repetitive. Anyway - Natalie. She's cool, I love that she's a curator but can she decide if she's sassy or insecure? Sure, you can be both but it was confusing? I did like that I never knew what she would say next.

The supporting characters were mostly unlikeable until the end and i'm sure that was the writer's point but it was slightly off-putting.

WARNINGS: mature content, class discrimination, bullying

RECOMMEND: for lovers of the royal family and fancy castles and romance with smut. 18+ please.

If you are looking for a slow-burn, royalty work place story than this is the book for you! Natalie is this budding curator that is trying to pay for her mother's medical bills when she stumbles across an amazing find at a flea market. After she posted the find online she is contacted by Lord Gavin with a job proposal. With an offer she just could not refuse, she jumps at the chance to work with more amazing artifacts in England. Upon arriving and meeting Lord Gavin you can feel the attraction between Lord Gavin and Natalie. As I said this is a slow burn romance but that does not stop the sexual tension that is built up as the story progresses. I really enjoyed this twist of a royalty romance. I really appreciated Magan Vernon sharing with me that her muse for Lord Gavin was Armie Hammer which enhance my enjoyment of the story just a little bit more.

Heired Lines was a pretty cute romcom to jump into. I honestly picked this book because of the guy on the cover. It also didn't hurt that it was an audio either. Because audiobooks give me life and make my boring workdays go by much faster. So, I barely hesitated before jumping into this.

Now the characters were okay and had their funny moments from time to time. I don't really have anything negative to say about Natalie or Gavin. They were just likable and that's about it. I did also enjoy their romantic journey, but I felt the drama was predictable. The whole evil mom throwing money at the poor girl was just way too easy to see coming.

Other than that, it was pretty easy to listen to and also a short book. If I cross paths with the sequel, and find the audiobook, I will most likely jump into it. No promises though but if it's cute and has pets, I'm in.

Let's begin by making a list with what we had in this book:
- rich(lord in this case) & very good looking guy - check
- poor & smart & beautiful girl - check
- huge mansion/castle & 3 (not one) expensive cars
- poor girl but with big money problem. In this case mothers huge hospital bills - check
- the rich guy has a wicked mother that wants her son to marry a woman who has the same status - check
- let's not forget the ball - check
- and the main characters dance at the ball - check also
I think this is it.
No, I forgot. We had also the wicked mother that gives money to the poor girl to leave her son, the poor girl leaving without taking the money and of course the rich and very much in love (he realizes that almost at the very end) that chases after the poor girl and ofers her not only himself but his castle also - check, check & check.
Yep, so this is almost everything.
Despite all this clichés the story was not that bad. I enjoyed the writing and it felt like I was watching a Hallmark movie.
And what can I say, I love Hallmark movies 😋

Have I ever read a book with many cliches and still felt happy reading it....Yep....I am like that. Sometimes sweet romances do that to me.

This is the first time that I am reading a book by author Magan Vernon and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The cover page is attractive and the blurb did hint at the story being of poor girl rich man love story theme but I wanted to read a romance with nobility in it

I enjoyed the story. The story is a about a working class girl from North Carolina US who is a Graduate in history and has her own website where she sells pieces of art which she scours from flea markets. Natalie is hardworking, has a loving mother but who is unwell and the family is in debt because of her medical bills. So when she gets this offer from Lord Gavin of Webley to apprise and curate the historical pieces in his manor she immediately takes up his offer as the remuneration would have solved her problems. Lord Gavin of Webley had inherited this manor and title from his aunt Sarah. The chemistry between Natalie and Lord Gavin can be felt from the first mails they write to each other.

So to learn what happens when Natalie finally reaches Webley and joins her work and to know how the relationship between the boss and employee progresses you have to read the story.

The things I liked in the story, Natalie as a strong character, her spunk, her witty comebacks, her thoughts going through her head.....Lord Gavin trying to keep his aura of the lord yet unable to stop himself from reacting to Natalie's comments.
The cliched character of the 'evil' Lady Helena and on the fence Sister Cecily.....

I would have loved to see a bit more drama in the story.

This story reminded me of the bollywood lovestories or the sweet royal stories that I have seen in Hallmark. I like both these so no regrets.

If you want to read a sweet romantic story involving Nobility, a beautiful manor, a handsome Lord and a sassy American girl then you should definitely pick this one up.

Heired Lines was my first Magan Vernon novel and I enjoyed it. British vs American, royalty vs commoner, this romance between the British Lord of Webley and the American antiques curator he hired, was a sweet, heart warming, slow burn romance that will at times have you laughing aloud.
Natalie and Gavin were engaging, likable characters. I loved how Gavin was protective over Natalie and I loved her sweet, caring personality. They had great chemistry from the start and you will be rooting for them throughout the story.
With back and forth banter, family drama, and the inclusion of some awesome rescue dogs I enjoyed this royal romance and would recommend it to all lovers of contemporary romance.

With Natalie's mother's medical bills being impossible to manage, Natalie takes a job curating artifacts in England. She was fortunate to find this job, and, not only will she be able to pay the bills, but she will be able to get a jump on her career as an established curator. When she meets Lord Gavin, she is more than drawn to him, despite his buttoned up nature.

However, Natalie has more than enough work to do, as does Lord Gavin, so any attachment either forms with the other will definitely have to sit on the back burner. Also, even though Natalie begins to notice that the handsome Lord Gavin likes her as well, she must contend with his overbearing mother, someone who sees status as the all important factor in any relationship Gavin forms. This certainly leaves Natalie out of the picture.

While the pair work hard to identify and value the multitude of items in the castle, the story flows along with a slowly developed romance. Then, when things finally looked good, there was a wrench thrown in the plans. For a quick royalty romance - rich lord/poor girl fall in love - then this is just the right read.

Many thanks to Entangled and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Heired Lines by Magan Veron a five-star read that jewel of a read. Aaaawww Gavin, you really are a little bit of a grump aren’t you but let’s be honest I think we all would be if we had his family. I really, really liked Natalie she had a little of Great Aunt Sarah’s fire and love of treasure. This was such a fun and flirty read, I love this authors writing as she just makes life funny, its great as she pulls all the different aspects to life and manages to get everything in and make it all make sense, but still be funny and a little naughty. I started this one thinking I would read a couple of chapters before bed, as I’m now working from home I don’t have a long commute so I don’t have to be up so early (thank goodness) so it was great timing, until I couldn’t put it down and stayed up reading till 4am. I’m sat at my home desk in my pjs with a coffee, my hairs a mess and I am present in body if not spirit, but I don’t care, I managed to read this amazing story and have fun regal dreams!! Let your reality be held for a moment especially during these troubling times and enjoy being a lady for a moment, and enjoy this fun ride of a read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Heired Lines is the first book that I have read by Magan and it was an enjoyable modern Cinderella romance.

Lord Gavin has just inherited his own manor and needs help going through his Aunt’s belongings. Natalie and her family are drowning in debt from her mother’s sickness, so when she is contacted by Gavin to be his curator she jumps at the chance. Natalie with her sassy, confident and love for history captivate Gavin from their first meeting.

Gavin is under immense pressure to marry someone of title from his very traditional mother. He is broody, a little gruff but is kind and sweet. Natalie is quiet but can hold her own and has a quirky love of all thing’s history. From their very first meeting their mutual attraction is obvious and they are very comfortable around each other.

Although the book is quite well written, I couldn’t connect with the characters as much as I would have liked. The plot was intriguing, though the beginning felt a little bit rushed and far-fetched. There was low drama and low angst. These are my personal opinions and feelings and although it wasn’t a favourite, you may really adore it.

Y’all I’m going to make a BOLD statement, but Heired Lines might be my favorite Magan Vernon book!!
I love a good English hottie & Lord Gavin hit every spot (innuendo intended 😉)! Whenever he & Natalie are together their chemistry was just oozing off the pages.
Natalie was such a great character! I loved how she was willing to work so hard to help her family, and I loved how she was such a sweetheart. She didn’t have any of those annoying flaws that romance heroines sometimes have...at least for me this was true.
This was an amazing escape in a stressful time. Make sure to add this slow burn beauty to your library!!

Heired Lines is a very sweet fast paced, slow burn romance between an English Lord and an American curator. Their original meeting over the phone while Natalie is trying to sell a vintage vase online opens up opportunities for both characters needs. Natalie needs the money to help with her mothers hospital bills, Gavin needs someone to curate his aunts vintage collections.
Natalie moves to Webley, England for the summer with a job offer she couldn't refuse. At her arrival, she learns she'll be staying and working in a castle, and her boss is the handsome and uptight Lord of the castle. What could be better than a full historical adventure for a girl with a master in history with a thesis on European antiquities and their importance to modern society? Right!
Natalie and Gavin's feelings for each other becomes obvious to everyone around them, starting drama with Gavin's family because of Natalies status. A Lord cannot be with a commoner!
This read was a light hearted one with a few laugh out load moments.

Cute story by a new author to me. Gavin and Natalie’s story was a super super slow burn but the humorous undertones to the book made it enjoyable. Gavin mainly kept his distance cause he knew that her being a commoner there wasn’t any hope and if he ever forgot he was reminded over and over again.

When we first meet Gavin I swear to god the man was such a stuffy person, “for a woman who acted so miffed on an email, I guess I should have expected this response.” Gavin really can read his woman like a book, "he leaned in, placing a kiss on my temple. “You’re cute when you’re pretending to be mad.” I liked this book, I liked Gavin.

When Natalie's offered the job of her dreams, of course she takes it. Not only will it give her much needed money to pay down her mother's medical bills, but it will give her the opportunity live in England and work with antiquities - her passion. And she gets to stay in a castle. AND her new boss is a gorgeous Lord. Swoon!

But alas it's not to be all smooth sailing because Gavin's mother cannot have her son with a *gasp* poor American commoner, so she does her level best to keep them apart. It doesn't matter that it's obvious Natalie and Gavin have serious feelings for each other, his mother only sees her common status. Will Gavin let his mother keep them apart?

Heired Lines is such a sweet, slow burn story with a little heat, a sexy Brit (love me some British men!) and a sweet heroine. What more could you need in a good quarantine timed read?

You know me, I love royal romances, so I couldn’t pass this book without giving it a try! I have to say that it was definitely a winner! The cover was the one that piqued my interest at first, and the story was what kept me reading!!

Natalie is a historian, struggling to pay her mom’s medical bills. History always excited her, so when she receives an email from a stranger offering her a job in England, she can’t decline. This is her chance to do what she loves and earn enough money to help her mom. Lord Gavin Webley couldn’t anticipate the change that an American woman would bring into his life. When he offered Natalie the job, he couldn’t fathom the connection they’d have.

I really enjoyed the story! I could feel their connection and I was rooting for them from the start. Lord Gavin is definitely a favorite character and I must say that the cover model fits his description perfectly!! Natalie’s excitement about history was apparent and it made me want to search more about all the history facts. My favorite part of the manor has to be the puppies! I mean who wouldn’t love to have more than 30 puppies running around and spread joy!!!

My first book from the author was a winner! I really liked her writing style and I’ll make sure to check out more of her books! If you are looking for a sweet royal romance with an undeniable chemistry between the characters, you found it!

Magan Vernon is a new to me author and after finishing Heired Lines I’m definitely going to be reading more from her. This one is a slow burn British royalty and American commoner romance.

Natalie is fresh out of school, her mother has mounting medical bills when the job opportunity of a lifetime falls into her inbox. A Lord from England needs a curator and she is the perfect person for the job. Lord Gavin is rich, a lord, good looking and kind of comes across as a jerk in the beginning. Two people who wouldn’t normally cross paths are now forced to work together and to fight off their attraction for one another.

This is a slow slow slow burn and I was rooting for Natalie and Gavin from the start. I loved their banter from the beginning and their chemistry once they finally met was great. However, I was also getting frustrated at all the almost moments throughout the book. This story also had somewhat of a fairytale vibe for me with the Lord, a commoner, a wicked mother and of course, a ball.

Heired Lines is a fast paced, slow burn, sweet romance that will have you laughing out loud a few times. For any fans of royal romances this one is a MUST READ.

“Heired Lines“ by Magan Vernon is a cute and quintessential forbidden romance between “Lord Gavin of Wembley“ and the curator, an average American girl, named Natalie. This is a quick and endearing read with a classic ending.

Blurb: Natalie is hard up for money, so when a mysterious man emails her about a job as a curator at his estate, she jumps at the chance to earn some extra income.

Natalie soon finds out that the mysterious man is nobility and the owner of a grand Castle. Even though Gavin and Natalie try to fight off their emotions, the two can’t stop themselves from constantly trying to find each other.

The characters were likable and I really enjoyed hearing about the grandness of the estate, but I had a hard time getting through the first half of this story. It’s a slow burn romance with repetitive emotions being described. The last few chapters picked up the pace, but their were a few inconsistencies in the writing. Overall, a cute piece of fiction, but I wouldn’t recommend it to others.

Loved this book! This is a fun contemporary romance between and Lord and a commoner from the states. She's hired to curate the antiquities in his castle and he can't stop thinking about her. However, as the Lord of the Manor, he's responsible to marry a noble and maintain the family line.

The nobility have no hesitation in letting her know just how inappropriate Natalie is for Gavin, making her want to slink away in the dead of night. Add in Gavin's mother, who takes nasty and condescending to a whole new level, and Natalie wishes she could just disappear.

The characters were engaging and the author made me care about them and feel invested in their story. I loved their back stories - especially Natalie's history and how it shaped her.

This is a wonderful story and fans of the genre will love this one - put it at the top of your TBR list. The author is on my must read authors' list.

This book was a really cute read.

From their first email exchange it was easy to see Natalie and Gavin's connection. Natalie has a love for history and antiques so she was perfect to catalog the contents of the estate Gavin inherited.

As they spent time together, Gavin and Natalie grew closer despite the big differences in their lives. I thought Magan Vernon did a nice job creating characters that are relatable and genuine, especially Natalie. Gavin seems a bit stuffy at first glance but he is a good person with a big heart.

Both Gavin's siblings and Natalie's sister are part of the book and I hope we also get their stories!

This book is so much better than its cover and description! I was pleasantly surprised. I was hooked from the first chapter. Great romantic tension between the two main characters, and I’m a sucker for almost anything that takes place in England. Please change that cover though. It does not do this story justice.

We would do anything for family. Or at least that is how Gavin and Natalie feel. When presented with an opportunity of a lifetime that could pay off a debt, Natalie will do why she has to to help her mother.

Gavin is used to being taken advantage of, being ordered around, and people using him. The feisty American he’s hired to help clean out his great aunts manor certainly is not what he’s expecting.

They are from two different worlds but that doesn’t stop the chemistry they share. Can they over come it and have a happily ever after ?

I requested this book on Netgalley the minute I read the description. I’m always looking for new NA to read, and expected this to be comparable to Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston (one of my favorite books of all time!) or a more mature version of Netflix’s A Christmas Prince. Unfortunately, this book did not live up to my expectations.

What I was looking forward to most was the romantic and sexual tension between the main characters. Especially since the description promised an “enemies”-to-lovers trope. But Heired Lines didn’t deliver. The tagline says “he’s a royal pain in the…”, but (Lord) Gavin isn’t that much of a nuisance. Sure he is “trouble,” but only because of the forbidden feelings he stirs in Natalie. Truthfully, though, Gavin never really comes off as pompous, so I couldn’t understand why Natalie is so frustrated with him—and she’s never so irritated as to “want to throw one of his precious vases at his head” like the flap/back copy suggests.

It seems Heired Lines is meant to be published only as an eBook at about 175 pages, give or take. Since the book is so short, the pace is rather fast—almost too fast. Don’t get me wrong, I liked how quickly I was able to read through the book. The book is slower in the beginning and picks up about halfway through, and I appreciated this balanced pacing. Yet, I still feel like there was room for more. I wouldn’t want the story to be bogged down, but I would have enjoyed the fast pace a bit more if some of key scenes were slowed down and expanded in order for me to really get to know the characters and their dynamics. To say this book is “predictable" or “surface level” would be an apt description, in my opinion.

The redeeming factor of this book is the level of detail. The story really knows how to focus in on the settings and the characters’ body language. I had an easy time imagining everything. (Disclaimer: As an American, I have no idea how accurate the cultural representation is in this book.) I think I was most impressed with how little bits of information (character traits, setting features, etc.) consistently appeared in the story. For example, when Natalie first arrives, she says she doesn’t need anyone to serve her food and that she’ll just make herself a PB&J. Later in the story, Natalie imagines her mother back home, in her rocking chair, “eating peanut butter and jelly so she wasn’t a burden.” I learned so much about Natalie by connecting these seemingly insignificant details!

Heired Lines alternates between Natalie’s and Gavin’s points of view, so their characters are established fairly well. I particularly loved the emotion and the contrast in Gavin; one minute he’s stoic and bossy, and the next he’s sheltering puppies or cherishing his memories of deceased Aunt Sarah. However, Natalie’s narration was still more preferable to me. Not unlike Gavin’s typically blank countenance, his voice wasn’t very noticeable. Aside from sounding like a horny teenager, that is. His thoughts are so stop-and-go that it’s actually disorienting. I think the writing overall could have been more seamless. The secondary characters could have been a bit more well-rounded too, since they are either stereotypical, inconsistent, or only function as tools to further along the story.

Finally, for NA, this book wasn’t too raunchy. There are 1.5 semi-explicit, but short, sex scenes. My one complaint about the sex scenes in Heired Lines: “his member.” And since I am on the topic of cliché words and phrases, I got so sick of reading “I let out a breath that I didn’t know I was holding” in this book.

For the level of detail and appealing premise (and the puppies!), I would give this book a bit higher rating. However, as a whole, Heired Lines just felt a bit lacking. Gavin and Natalie are adorable together and I did appreciate the slow-burn romance, but I wasn’t fully invested in their relationship or the obstacles hindering their ability to get together…which is supposed to be the pinnacle of the romance genre! While this book was not for me, I still think Heired Lines is a cute NA contemporary romance that would suffice as a quick, escapist read.
