Waking Terror
A nightmare haunts the Albuquerque suburbs. PI Jack Mahler thought he finally had an easy assignment, a routine life insurance claim investigation. An imaginative novella about an insurance investigator looking into a death that seemed to be an accident but turned out to be something altogether different. Did the woman die in an accident or was she murdered? Or, it is something even stranger? I would classify this one as a paranormal techno-thriller.

Waking Terror had me hooked! This is a small book that packs a big story. On one hand, I want to run to a closet & hide from the world while I inhaled this book, but on the other hand, I wanted to keep putting it down so I could savor it. It is a PI paranormal mystery, and I actually found it a little scary at times, which is unusual for me. The main character is very believable, even while impossible things are happening around him, and the story is very well-plotted. Plus the writing itself is excellent. Definitely recommended!

I met the author at a Ren Faire in New Castle. Such a hot day! But the author was a trooper and so friendly I just had to buy a book. I love a good thriller, and this one caught my eye. In the style of so many popular authors (Washington Irving comes to mind), Barron starts the story off as if he's simply relaying a tale that was told to him by an insurance investigator. The story quickly spirals into a fun investigative thriller fraught with chills and chuckles, and, most importantly, furry four-legged friends. I look forward to reading more of Barron's works.
