Miraculously, Alex had survived the crucible of combat and emerged victorious, earning the right to attend Dragon Academy.
But his trials had only begun.
For Alex had dared the unthinkable.
A despised Ruidian entering Dragon Academy was an abomination the school’s elite would stop at nothing to destroy, eager to cripple or kill him if they possibly could.
Even worse, Alex’s mentor was notorious for throwing his disciples into the thick of any conflict, no matter how unfair the odds.
Alex knew only two paths lay before him:
To be forged in the fires of his enemies’ hate into a killing blade capable of cutting down all his foes… Or to be hammered into slag, never to rise again.
Eager for a fast-paced Wuxia/LitRPG adventure filled with deadly adversaries, exotic adventures, and mighty cultivators fighting for the power to topple kingdoms? Then read on!
While this book currently has the wrong title on Goodreads, I suppose that can be forgiven considering the book dropped three days ago.
This was an incredibly satisfying continuation of the SF&TWH saga, to the point that I blew threw it in a day. "Magic schoolhouse" is a fun trope, and while this book didn't delve to far into that aspect, it was present. One of my gripes of the previous novel was that it didn't really deal with the fates of the characters of the first novel, so I was glad that their stories were furthered, though off screen.
While this book is great, in and of itself, I am very excited for the foundations it set for an even more epic 4th book. I am excited to see the reunion of Alex, the Alchemist, and his daughter, and to see how Alex continues to deal with the wide array of enemies he has accrued.
I bought this book and read it in a day. I'm looking forward to devouring the next the same way.
Fantastic read for those who love the intricacies of cultivation books
Loving these books, exactly what I was looking for in a cultivation series! The protagonist is human and the limitations but upon himself and the world make sense, bit fan of the pacing too! Overall 5 stars, excited for the next one!
The story is engaging, the protagonist is (usually) entertaining, and the secrets of the setting are intriguing. However, there are three major problems with this book. 1 The society presented is fundamentally unstable, due to a combination of graft, hypocrisy, and delusion that should collapse the empire into a millennium of internal conflict within two generations. 2 The people of the empire are so craven, greedy, bigotted, hypocritical, and treacherous that I do not care if they all die in a fire. They are unworthy of my sympathy and unworthy of the protagonist's aid. 3 The protagonist lost most of his intellect between books. For no discernible reason, he spends the first half of this volume making foolish errors he deliberately avoided in both previous volumes.
I really enjoyed the book, but for some reason authors tend to include cliffhangers at the end...a perfectly fine ending had to be f..... up almost in the last paragraph, almost as if it is an overriding itch the author has to satisfy against his/her better knowledge...if author wants people to read on, include a first chapter of new book...cliffhangers there are perfectly acceptable to any reader.
I really enjoyed the starting premise but it went downhill from the 1st book. Too many of the stories rules were broken just for the sake of some extra tension. Also in the 3rd book an almost incessant repetition of some of the plot points. I wish I could read more but I barely made it through book 3
I enjoyed the first two novels, but I find this novel very badly planned out, when it came to the fights. The MC has game changing abilities that other people his level, don't have yet, but he stopped using them .
First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
Over the past year it has become apparent that my reviews are somewhat antagonistic and I apologize to those of you that have taken offense. I think I had hoped to change peoples’ minds about reviewing works of art and that seems to have backfired spectacularly. However, I am still going to be true to myself and write what I believe.
To the author: Thank you for this chance to escape reality and enjoy the world you created! Keep up the good work.
To my fellow reviewers: Messaging me and reviewing my reviews is as productive as trying to shovel water out of the ocean. Stop. I get it. Let’s just all live peacefully.
To potential readers: Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
See, it's very well paced and written, with excellent quality world building if you understand intriguing. Well, having a basic understanding of other cultures wouldn't hurt.
I'm afraid my only concern is... well, I have a reading retention that blew them out of the scale for sats in high school, despite my dyslexic and dysgraphia.
So I speed read, but I don't apply myself as much as our hero does. I also may mis minor issues like spelling, due to my leaning disorder.
I still over all recommend it, as it was well paced. Very well formatted, and I've read all 3 without being bored.
If that's not an upvote you should reevaluate you lack of lexicon.
This fantastic addition to the excellent cultivation series is all you could hope for. Solid actions scenes! Personal growth, drama, despair, romance, exultation! Secrets revealed! More players added to the board! Utterly captivating to the point where I’m giving up sleep to finish books!
Seriously, if you have ever had any interest in cultivation series or LitRPG books then you need to read this gem of a series. Definitely recommended (15+)
These books just become better and better. The pace ever quickening and challenging the reader not to skip ahead. I found this book impossible to put down and had to fight not to constantly try to read ahead. Absolutely amazing novel. Story, characters, plot, narrative, pacing; all immense and now my favorite series. Hurry with the next novel as you’re cliffhangers are killing me!
The author managed to keep the story and growth going forward well but there is a repeating theme that is taking over the narrative in a negative manner. Alex loses everything and everyone hates him copy paste. I am hoping the next book doesn't repeat this cycle and has him face new challenges other than people that just hate him based on his race alone.
I should have reviewed the first two, but was too busy reading to take the time. So far, this is my second favorite cultivation series. Right behind another series focusing on a boy named Lindon. It is close though. I am thoroughly amazed at how action packed this series is. The writing is fantastic and the main character never gets to rest. Where most books have one big fight to cap the story, this series will have 4 or 5 throughout. Truly enjoyable to read.
Although these books aren't my usual taste, I find them oddly compelling. This world is unrelentingly brutal and I'm not sure of Alex's chances, but if he has finally figured out that he can't "play the fool" and survive he may make it. How many times does he note his naivete yet backslides with disastrous consequences?
Well, he's locked on a path now; a quiet life isn't possible so absolute lethal brutality to all those who threaten him and his is the only way. An appropriate if irksome cliffhanger ends this installment, so hopefully he comes out swinging in the next book.
Very good character progression, MC is not OP, and the action is continuous. The only negative is the flowery and repetitive descriptions at times. Not always, but enough to make me want to skip ahead a few pages to get back to the action. Looking forward to the next book.
A big step up from book 2 where the MC takes no end of abuse. There's still times he's abused in this book but his power rapidly advances and he starts taking the abuse to his enemies. Really fun to see him start to come out on top in his fights. Can't wait for the next book and the long awaited reunion with friends from the first book.
This book builds upon the previous two books in this series with plot twists, great character interaction and awesome fight scenes. I really like the way the author is able to build strength in the character without overpowering him. The suspense is maintained from beginning to end! Awesome!
For all that the story is beautifully devised. Throughout the entire series nothing but hatred is displayed to the main character by the majority of Society. And instead of trying to overcome this the main character seems to always be ashamed of himself in some form or another vindicating what Society thinks of him.
Best of the series so far. If you are a fan of Kung fu movies, wuxia cultivation novels then you can't miss this series.
There were some misspelled words (reported through Kindle), a few small plot/developmental holes that the editor should have caught, but they are smallish and it's much more complete than the previous two books (which are great reads as well).
This story of a despised white guy trying to live in a xenophobic cultivating oriental world is fantastic. Unfortunately the Author goes to far with the MC powers at times. It also makes no sense why he is ever afraid of lesser opponents at times. Interesting Read
It's probably shameful, on my part, that I have reached book 3 before leaving a review, but I have been so engrossed that I haven't stopped reading. Lockdown good for something, other than the obvious one. Despite these books having wuxia/litRPG roots , they prove that the written word is still the King. Excellent read, on to the next!
The Silver Fox series does not disappoint. It is a fast paced book. I love ooks that show the subjects learning skills and beating the odds against those that would destroy them. I look forward to book 4.
Very interesting read. Full of action with a lot of potential for more. Only thing i dislike about it is that the cultivation is confusing and sometimes the scenes get disconjointed. Overall a very entertaining read
This without doubt the best book of the series. The style, the prose, the syntax and the story drag you in and suddenly the book is finished and it’s daylight again.
A good story that I enjoyed reading. But the character did do some uncharacteristic stupid actions, just for the sake of advancing the story. If the main character does everything smart, then does a very stupid thing. The smart readers will notice and be pissed at the writer.
I've been enjoying this series so far, though I'm still not entirely sure where the personal appeal comes from. I'll add the series to the spreadsheet so I remember to look for book 4 and see what becomes of Alex as he grows more powerful.
Awesome storytelling!!! Felt like I was part of the hero's journey. Can't wait for next book.
Recommend to everyone. The hero drives into challenge after challenge through the fear and doubt. Great work!!! Thanks fire shark g your imagination with us.
Shop many turns and twist to the point that I was lost in the storm of the battles and intrigue and finally at the ends it all makes such captivating since. This book was so good that I finished it in a single day.
