Hot Scots #5

Notorious in a Kilt

Rate this book
One sizzling night. A lifetime of consequences.

In college, Rae Everhart had her future mapped out — until one night of forbidden passion with her much-older professor cost her everything. Iain MacTaggart abandoned Rae, never knowing he'd given her a daughter. Thirteen years later, he storms back into her life. His easy smile tempts her, but his sensual seduction may be her undoing.

Iain MacTaggart knows he can't win Rae with sweet words and apologies. To earn back her trust, he'll rely on the one thing he does best — pleasuring a woman. He abandoned Rae once, but he won't repeat that mistake. Still, hot sex and secrets don't mix. And his darkest mistakes may be coming back to haunt them both.

Can Rae trust the man who destroyed her once and who could so easily do it again? This time, he can do much worse than break her heart. He could break their daughter's heart too.

Notorious in a Kilt is the fifth book in the bestselling, multi-award-winning Hot Scots series of contemporary romances.

This was just an okay read for me mostly because his family and their daughter were awesome but if it had been about 50% shorter and his sex life during their separation had been discussed about 99% less it would have been much better.

***spoilers ahead*** I'm going to slut shame the hero and I get a bit ranty... Sorry!

I just found the whole thing about him loving her and missing her so much that he spent years screwing around with just about anyone who would try him (over 100 but less than 200, the hero and heroine actually get that detailed discussing his promiscuity), married and divorced another woman, and spent 5 years screwing a married woman. The married woman is important to the story and I feel sorry for her she made some bad choices and got stuck in a crappy position. But he had sex with her 8 days before he took off across the ocean to get back to the woman he supposedly loved? Yuck, just yuck. The author could have allowed the 2 year (?) marriage and the married chick to be in the story and had a sprinkling of short term relationships without having the hero be gross, I mean if you completely averaged the numbers by the separation time that's at least 1 new woman per month if he kept sleeping around while married and while seeing the married chick but it was stated he was faithful to his wife and I think the book says he wasn't with anyone else for the five years with the married chick. So he spent at most 5 years being icky and you estimate 150 (200>100) that's at least 2 women a month! All while being "in love" and "missing" the heroine. In contrast she was with 4 men while they were apart that's one man every 3 years. That doesn't strike me as crazy or excessive while still missing and being in love with the hero. That is someone wishing she could move on, his behavior was just....

Ugh, rant over. The rest of the story was pretty good though. Sheep, a llama, nemesis drama, all that was fun. If the hero hadn't been a promiscuous douche while they were apart or if the writer had glossed over it by simply stating he made some poor sexual decisions when they were first separated I would have given this at least a 4 star rating.

NOTORIOUS IN A KILT (Hot Scots #5) by Anna Durand is a smokin’ hot contemporary second chance romance. This entire series of sexy Scottish brothers and cousins is easy to read and entertaining. Each book can be read as a standalone although it was fun to read them in order and watch how each meets their perfect American mate.

Rae Everhart fell in love with her college professor. With only one month to go before graduation, they could not wait. They were both adults and only had one night of passion before the jealousy of others tore them apart. Her lover disappeared leaving Rae with so many unanswered questions and a daughter to raise alone.

Iain MacTaggart thought he was saving Rae by leaving her. He knows nothing about his daughter and has quite the reputation since returning to his home in Scotland. Since he can’t have the one woman he loves, he sleeps with many others. He never promises them anything except a good time.

Thirteen years later on Rae’s sheep ranch in Texas, Iain comes marching back into Rae’s life. He is willing to do anything to win her trust back, but he still has secrets that could break them apart once again. Can Rae trust Iain with not only her heart, but her daughter’s heart also?

This is the book I have been waiting for! Iain was a secondary character in other books in this series and I always wanted to know why at fifty he was still not settled. You knew there were secrets and this book tells all. Both Rae and Iain suffered and yet rebuilt their lives as best they could. They had to be together though in the end for this HEA to satisfy. Iain is extremely hot and Rae is the perfect strong and resilient heroine. Beside the reignited romance, you also get blackmail, misunderstandings and a bumpy road to happiness. The sex in this book is explicit and hot as in this whole series.

I really enjoyed this story and was very happy to finally find out more about Iain. This is a great second chance romance and one of my favorite in this series to date.

This is dramatic, romantic, entertaining and hot. Ian is cocky, determined and remorseful. Rae is stubborn, untrusting and confused. They had an intense, taboo relationship when Rae was in college and when Ian left Rae was devastated. But Ian left behind a reason to celebrate, a daughter. Now Ian shows up ready to beg for forgiveness and is shocked to find he has a daughter. He is even more determined to win Rae back, she's determined to protect her and her daughters hearts. They have a chemistry that is still as intense as it was.

I enjoyed reading about how Iain and Rae overcame their scandalous past. However, I couldn't give the book 5 stars because of how blindly Rae just accepted Iain's playboy past. (100+ and she's ok with it!!!). Sorry, I have issues with double standards. It was nice to read about older people finding love and overcoming past obstacles and misunderstanding, but I could have dealt with less of Iain's past mistakes with women.

This is an OK addition to the Hot Scots romance series. When I read the synopsis of this book, I wasn't sure I would like it -- because I usually don't like books where a professor seduces a student.

I decided to give it a try anyway, and it was better than I expected. That is because Iain was not a professor who took advantage of his student. He actually fell in love with Rae, and waited to be with her until she was ready to graduate. That made the professor/student relationship more palatable to me.

I did think it was very strange that Iain waited so long to try to find Rae. His reasons/excuses just didn't hold up. If he still loved her as much as he said, he would have found a way to get to her, instead of making excuses. It also bothered me that he was such a terrible womanizer during the time they were apart. Once again, if he loved Rae that much, I don't think he would have acted like that.

I mostly liked Rae, and understood that she couldn't find Iain to tell him about her pregnancy. But when he showed up at her home, she should have told him about his daughter right away. She should not have kept that secret from him any longer. I get that she thought she was protecting her daughter, but she still should have told Iain -- especially after he explained that he thought he was protecting her when he left so many years before.

This one gets 3 stars from me.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Notorious in a Kilt is the fifth in the Hot Scots series by Anna Durand. I can not say how much I loved this book. This book had so many things that I loved about it. Everything was just so genuine. In short, I would highly recommend this book if you want to read a funny, heartwarming story with one hot scot!

First off, I have to say I have a couple of regrets about reading this book. The first is that it took me soo long to read it. It has been in my books to review pile for a while second, that I wasn't able to read the other books in the series because I loved each and every one of the characters. These characters are some of the best set of characters that I have read about in a long time. I loved Iain and Rae. They worked so well together. Even when they had arguments, they weren't annoying. Their arguments were valid. I loved that where in other books, the characters would have kept secrets in this book they talked. I think what probably first stopped me from reading this is because Iain is older, like, 50. While his age held me off at first, I absolutely grew to love him. He isn't perfect, but he owns up to it. There were a couple of times that Rae supported him when he was being down on his self. Finally, my last regret is that it only took me a day to read this book! I could not stop reading. I skipped lunch and stuff to do around the house to read this.

If you couldn't guess, I loved this book. I would highly recommend it. I am super excited to start from the beginning and looking forward to reading the next in the series!

Rae Everhart fell in love with Iain McTaggart as a senior in college, and he with her. The problem? He was her professor. Just prior to graduation, her last class completed they go on their first, and last date. Returning the next morning to her apartment, Rae is met first by the crazy, jealous roommate who wanted Iain for herself. Then, she is stripped of her grade in his class, and kicked out of school. When she discovers that Iain has also left without a word to her, she returns home, only to discover that Iain had left her with a lasting gift. She is pregnant with his child.

13 years later, on her sheep ranch in Texas, Rae is stunned to see a man walking up her mile long lane. No one visits her out there! The closer he gets, the more familiar he looks. Could the most significant ghost from her past really be walking back into her life?

Iain never forgot Rae. Circumstances tore him away from her, so he spent 13 years doing all he could to live without her. When that didn't work, he hires a PI to find her. The minute he does, Iain sets out to win Rae back. He knows he's waited longer than he should have, but love should count for something, shouldn't it?

This was a fun romp, with some suspense thrown in for extra flavor. I loved Iain's single-minded determination to win Rae back, and her equal determination to protect their daughter from the man who left before he knew about her. I may just have to go back and read about the other Hot Scots! I definitely enjoyed this one!

Emotionally charged second chance romance!

Iain was forced to leave Rae years ago, but he never forgot her. After seeing his cousins land their respective HEAs, he decides it's high time he right yesterday's wrongs and he sets out to find Rae and win her back.

Rae's college fling with the scorching hot Scottish archaeology professor nearly ended all her future plans, but left her with a life filled with love for their daughter and no way to reach her father. Stunned doesn't begin to cover how she feels when Iain shows up on her Texas sheep ranch, determined to forge a future with her but completely unaware of their daughter.

This thoroughly entertaining romance starts off strong and gets better and better all the way through. There's a delicate balance between the tension and intense chemistry, but neither one can deny that their flame never fully went out. The plot flows perfectly along, navigating an assortment of misunderstandings, blackmail, meddling and unexpected family, and blending two different cultures and countries.

The romance may start in Texas, but it ends in Scotland with a beautiful HEA that reunites us with the rest of the MacTaggart family. I loved every bit of this story, and highly recommend it for all romance lovers. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

A bit too much drama for me in this romance that went on and on.
I loved the way it started as Iain barges his way back into Rae’s life, thirteen years after ghosting her “for her own good” (I actually hate when the H’s do that).
His sweet determination to get her back no matter what, was very romantic.
I didn’t like the whole man whore thing though. His past was pretty bad and it came up again and again and again.
I loved the way he responded to the news and realization about Melina though. I don’t like it when authors end up having the H get all full of themselves and angry after finding out they were baby daddy’s without their knowledge. This author spared me the dramatics of that. Instead, Iain is grateful, and happy about Melina.
But the drama of their relationship goes on to include his bad past and of course his well earned horrible reputation with women. That part was definitely a put off and really distasteful, especially as he was adamant that he loved Rae all that time. That’s so not love.
What was quite surprising was Rae. She may have been fifteen years younger than Iain, but she was definitely the more mature of the couple. She was the “ray” of hope, reason, and future for Iain and was the perfect heroine in this romance!

I wasn’t really sure how to rate this when I finished it, so I let it gel and I am now happy with my rating. This is a second chance romance with a secret baby.

The story was slow burn with plenty of chemistry between the characters. They met when she was in college and he was her professor. One night together resulted in both of them suffering the consequences but he’s finally decided to track her down. Rae isn’t so sure the man she’s always loved is the sticking around type and there’s more at risk this time.

Characters are very well developed. While there is an age difference, the sparks between them are real and the story of them finding their way back to love is wonderful.

This is a full length novel and I thought it would be too long for “the story” but there were twists and turns, secrets to be revealed and obstacles to overcome and I found myself picking the book back up after setting it down to read just one more chapter. I loved the story, loved the characters but the best part was getting to know Rae and Iain and see them begin to understand each other and themselves as their relationship developed. This apparently is a book in a series but it works perfectly as a stand-alone. Still, I’m going to have to go back and get to know the rest of the MacTaggart clan. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).

This is book five and the Scottish series. Rae had a short sultry affair with Iian a professor at her college that one mistake cost her more of her future than either could have imagined after realizing that she had an unplanned pregnancy and the Iain had skipped out and left her to deal with her pregnancy alone. Rea taking responsibility raises her daughter on her own. The 13 years without Iain hard but she makes it building a life for her and her daughter.
Now Iain is back and he wants a second chance with Rae the problem is she's learned her lesson and pretty much won't give him the time of day he has to fight he uses the one thing he knows she can't resist.
The problem with letting him back in is he's lived the past 13 years mysteriously and has caused some problems but now she has her thirteen-year-old daughter to look out for and she's afraid that the only thing he could offer them is broken heart but once his past comes back that's when the problems really begin now he has to fight for his family

NOTORIOUS IN A KILT is the fifth book in the Hot Scots series. While each book is centered on one couple leading to their HEA, it is best to read them in the order of release. I am devastated that I missed the fourth book!

Before I tell you what I loved about this book (and I did love this story), let me tell you what I love about this series. They are contemporary comedic romance, but each story is a different trope. Dangerous is a suspense romance. Wicked is an old-fashion slapstick romantic comedy. Scandalous is a fake marriage turned true love. Gift-wrapped is a Christmas comedy romance. Now, we have Notorious and it is a second chance romance with a secret baby. They are all absolutely sigh-worthy.

What I love most about this book is the characters…not just Iain and Rae, but so many others. There was their daughter Malina (and the reason for her name), Rae’s mother, all of Iain’s family, and the sheepies (labelled this way on purpose), horses, and llama on the ranch in Texas. Yes, to me the animals count as characters, too.

Iain’s nickname for Rae may be so obvious, but it is so endearing and who wouldn’t want to be thought of as someone’s ray of sunshine. Plus, it had me humming one of my favorite songs.

There are more MacTaggarts (and kilts) coming in this wonderful series. I’m looking forward to the next adventure!

Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Another delightful story about the charming Scottish MacTaggart cousins. This one is about Ian getting a second chance with his long lost love, Rae Everhart. He was a visiting professor in America and she was one of his students. They became friends, but it wasn't until after exams were over that they consummated their relationship. Shortly before he was going to ask her to marry him, he was falsely accused of sexual harassment by Rae's jealous roommate and was deported, before he could even talk to Rae. However, he left her with a little gift. Villains on both sides of the Atlantic kept them from finding each other, but thirteen years later, after watching Gavin win back his love Jamie (Jamie is Ian's cousin and Aiden's sister who is married to Gavin's sister Calli), Ian seeks the help of his fmaily to track Rae down. Once he shows up at her door, he then has his work cut out for him earning her trust while she need to find the courage to tell him he has a daughter. Great characters, with humor and wit make this an enjoyable read. Can't wait to read Evan's story.

This is the first book I have read by Ms. Durand and I enjoyed it. Since I have not read the previous books in the series I don't know if the men in the MacTaggart family are all as willing to admit to their mistakes as easily and frequently as Iain did, but I guess that is why we read fiction. Rae was also so understanding and rational about all of the revelations Iain kept admitting to that I had a hard time believing how easily she just accepted everything he told her with so little fuss. Again, this is why it is fiction and not reality.
I will be reading this series from the beginning so I can find out how the family story started.
The writing and character development was done well without getting bogged down midway through the way some books have a tendency to do.
Overall a good book.

Indiana Jones type Iain hits ALL the spots!

I loved it!! I really need to read the rest of the series. I have read the first and this one. I am missing much in MacTaggartland! Series aside, the book is very readable as a standalone. Delicious Scottish man candy and a second chance secret baby romance theme? So many good things in this book. Iain is dreamy! And sweet. Rae is strong and independent and while still loving Iain deep inside, she has not let their past drama poison her life or their daughter. The daughter he knows nothing about. I loved the image of this sexy Scot who makes Rae think of Indiana Jones! (Now that would be quite the combo! Indy with a Scots accent! Sorry, distracted.) Despite their age difference, they are meant to be! Sexy, steamy, witty, tender, sweet, a little drama, and a very happy ending. Fantastic read!!! And Malina, their daughter, is fantastic!! I loved this one! It has drama, intrigue, sexy times, and a determined guy going after his gal. I really enjoyed these two! Rae is a favorite character who shows how strong and resilient women can be. I just did not care for how long it took her to tell him about the you-know-who. I get being nervous and a wreck but once those old feelings popped back up it should have came out of her mouth. Ian is a dream Harrison Ford…Hat and all! I loved how determined he was to get her back and really never wavered. He took everything in stride. Yeah he has a sketchy past with women and…you know..that other stuff. But he overall impressed me with his actions.

I did listen to this on audio. Mary Ann Weather and Patrick Zellar did a wonderful job on the narration. This is one of my favorites in the series.

Another MacTaggart love story. It seems this band of Scots loves to have loves with complications.

Ian id not know when he was bluffed away from his university post in the states that he was leaving Rae behind with no contact info for him no explanation, and a baby on the way.

after seeing one of his band of cousins succeed in winning his love back, Ian ashed for some cousinly help to find Rae. Until he showed up in her drive as she was returning from dealing with her sheep there he stood.

Much drama ensues with happiness at the end, but interfered with connections along the way.

Sweet and saucy Scots love endeavors with much family involvement and flair.

I received a review copy of this book from the author through Voracious Readers. This is book 5 in a series but I haven’t read the other books and I found this book works perfectly fine as a standalone novel. This was a great story and so entertaining that I will definitely be looking to read the other books in the series. The writing is witty and sharp and flows well. This story was full of romance, humour, angst and drama. The characters were all unique in the finest way and were all engaging and endearing. Iain was a charming, sexy, alpha male and Rae is a sweet, kind-hearted, strong and independent single mother. Their journey to reconnect is both heartwarming and frustrating, but always entertaining. Very enjoyable read!

This is the fifth book in the Hot Scots Series. I love this series! Rae and Iain's age-gap romance continues thirteen years after the short prequel The Notorious Dr. MacT. I loved their second chance to love! Rae is beautiful, smart, determined, and independent. Iain is very handsome, and sexy. I liked his determination to win Rae back. He brilliantly redeemed himself. The story is sweet, sexy, funny, and heartwarming, filled with secrets, and twists and turns. The supporting characters are amazing. They have such a cute, intelligent daughter! I loved following Rae and Iain on their journey to love. Mary Ann Weathers and Patrick Zeller did an outstanding job with the narration. I enjoyed it. Looking forward for more in the series! I definitely recommend this series!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Voracious Readers Only. This was the first book I've read by Anna Durand and I can't wait to get my hands on all of the others in this series, and likely the other books she's written as well. This is how romances should be written. It was PERFECTION. The characters are well developed and engaging. The story had depth and detail. It's enthralling, alluring, sensual. The story itself kept you reading, the romance and sex were blended into the story beautifully. Truly well done.

If I dream of tartan and sexy men with accents it's a direct result of having read this. My only regret is not having the other books in this series YET.

Notorious in a Kilt is the 5th book in the Hot Scots series but it can be read as a stand-alone book.

Rae had a fascination with her college professor, Iain MacTaggart. They spend time together but never go where they should not until one night after her last semester grades are in. That one night explodes them into tragedy and changes the course of both their lives forever.

Thirteen years later, Iain is determined to win Rae over and have his second chance. They are sexually attracted still but there are trust issues and difficult secrets to get past. Can they find their way back to each other permanently this time or will circumstances keep them apart again?

I'm enjoying this series because who doesn't love hot Scots? I listened to the audiobook, which features Mary Ann Weathers and Patrick Zeller, both of whom were great as the narrators. This is an older man, younger woman, taboo romance (well, it was taboo because she was his student). But years later, they finally meet again and he finds out he now has a daughter. But he has some secrets to handle before he can feel like his family will be safe. And can he get Rae to forgive him for abandoning her?

I liked the characters- although Iain's past constantly being brought up was a bit of a downer. Otherwise, it was a fun, fast read and I liked the little bit of intrigue in the end.

Loved this one and I am going back to the first one and read the rest of the series. He was her teacher thirteen years ago. A very good looking hot teacher. They had a hot night and he then left her. He hurt her badly and left her with a daughter he knew nothing about. Well here he is back and wants her but can she let this happen. Will it be any better? He has two people he can hurt and destroy now. It is hot, exciting, emotional, suspenseful and so much more. I highly recommend it. I got a review copy from booksprout and voluntarily review it.

The book is about the difficulties they have to face to even think about being together. Rae has a secret Iain has secrets can they get past it all? This was a really good book it is a bit long so make sure you take your time in reading so you enjoy every minute. It is a book I am happy to recommend. The story of Ian and Rae is a beautiful one to read. I loved the Scottish in Ian and the strength of Rae, but the love of one little girl makes the story something to behold. Ms. Durand takes the reader on a trip along the way and shows the reader how amazing life could be with a little forgiveness. Notorious in a Kilt is amazing; after all, who could ever resist a man in a kilt?

A thoroughly enjoyable second chance romance. A feisty American sheep rancher and a Scottish former college professor. Rae fell in love with Iain her senior year of college, but a jealous roommate and her father drove them apart. Thirteen years later Iain shows up at Rae's ranch trying to get her back. They have more than their share of obstacles to overcome, but do get their HEA in the end.

Gotta love strong women, and Rae is strong, single mom with her own business. The day Iain walked on to her farm she became stronger. A second chance for love, a chance to fight for something more. The characters are awesome the story wonderful. I have all the other books in the series and the family is endearing, cant help but want to be part of them. Cant wait for more.
