Harper Harlow #16

Ghostly Camping

Rate this book
Harper Harlow’s romantic life is perfect, her wedding is in the works, and now she’s decided to enhance her business standing by attending a haunted campground opening. If she enjoys herself, publicly endorses it and the owner, then she’ll open up a brave new world.
Unfortunately for Harper, old ghosts die hard and a fresh murder taints what is supposed to be a quiet weekend.
Harper’s happy foursome – her fiancé Jared Monroe, her best friend Zander Pritchett, and his fiancé Shawn Donovan are all along for the ride – turns into a nightmare when the group must pretend to solve a fake murder while actively hunting clues regarding a real murder. On top of that, Harper and Zander don’t have as much fun “roughing it” as they thought they would … well, despite the s’mores.
Four urbanites go into the woods. Will any of them come out alive? It’s going to take everyone working together to solve an old mystery and ease the fresh hell that has emerged.
Get ready for adventure, because it’s going to be one heckuva trip, and there’s a big wedding right around the corner for those who survive.

Murder Camp

A fake murder and two real ones take the fun out of the event and the delusional owner isn't helping. Throw in an infatuated assistant and Harper is in up to her eyeballs. I like the way her gifts are evolving with each book. Great read.

Another Great Mystery

I loved the real life mystery in this book. Harper at all are at a summer camp doing a murder mystery game. But they find one of their group who has in fact been murdered. The book had a great ending. Loved it. I kind of wish there had been more involvement in the murder mystery game and the other campers there for the game. It was like there were 2 separate groups. Harper and friends working the real murder. And off somewhere else doing whatever is the rest of the campers. Oh well, I guess that would have made for a much longer book. And I stress that the real murder mystery was very, very interesting. Great book.

Another good entry in this series

Yet another trip for two ruined; between pain-in-the-butt Zander, an overly aggressive businessman, and a possible murder (or two), Harper and Jared just can't seem to enjoy any alone time! The mystery is engaging, the motive is both surprising and pathetic, and there's hope for justice for the guilty. Also, the subtly shifting dynamics in the foursome offer some much-needed possibilities for change. I have one thing to say: Jared and Shawn are saints (particularly Shawn)!

Love Harper Harlow!

Another great story with great characters! Harper and Jerod make a great team, and their latest adventure is no exception. Zander and Shawn are along for the ride of course, helping to keep the action and back and forth banter going. I love these stories - they are entertaining, they are fun, and we always get our happy ending! Can’t wait for the next chapter in their story!

Fun

Lot of fun to read. Interesting and some great snark. Felt a bit uncomfortable on Jareds behalf a few times. Cancer and Harper's Spain Germany and France conversation was funny.

No language, minimal off page violence (it is a murder mystery) and mild sexual situations.

Recommended series. This is actually my favorite of this nom de plume. Her other series are also recommended as well as the Amanda M Lee series books.

Almost unreadable

First, I think this series has just turned to total crap. I also HATE when a writer skips over or pretends that entire parts or in this case books in the series didn't happen. Harper says ghosts don't usually throw things but that's exactly how the first several books started. That's apparently gone. Harper & Zander acted like they never really camped before except when they were kids with Zander throwing a fit over not having his hair dryer. Well, I guess the whole book where they went to the asylum & camped with no issues is just thrown away too. I didn't read the short I guess where they went away on a mushroom hunting trip that was mentioned but that sounds like camping or at least in the woods & for the second book in a row Zander complains about being in the trees. Back to the asylum book, not only did Harper put the tent up herself & Jared talked about being a boy scout (which wasn't mentioned here cause let's forget that whole friggin book happened apparently), Zander managed to cook full on meals AND bake cookies over an open flame with nary a complaint. No complaining about hair products or hair dryers when they were there. They didn't even have actual bathrooms in that book & has too go outside & Zander who complains about everything, didn't complain. This books - he complains & acts like he's never been camping. Harper too. They just went camping a few months before that. Now, let's talk about the amount of vacation time Jared gets. He's new the Whisper Cove Police Department & yet right after he starts he took 10 days to be with his mother. Then weeks later he gets a week off to go to his friends murder mystery hotel thing. Then the time in the asylum. Then they apparently went mushroom picking but idk if he took time off for that or not. Then he takes off for the cruise which turns into the trip to the "castle" Harper's friend from high school lived in. What kind of vacation package did they give a rookie detective?!?! Why does Jared get all this time and apparently days off too cause he's taken days off to spend with Harper while Mel - who has been there for YEARS always seems to working. Not once in the year - that's right folks Jared has been there for a year & maybe a month that Jared has taken WEEKS off has Mel been off or have we heard about Mel being off. Harper & Jared are getting married soon & he wants to take off for a 2 week honeymoon. Where does he get the time?!?! Maybe his vacation resets at his one year mark or reset at the new year but it's still A LOT of time off. I know that the writer doesn't want to turn Whisper Cove into the next Cabot Cove from Murder, She Wrote but Jared shouldn't have that much time off. He gets weekends too while Mel - his superior officer - seems to work them. As for this book besides the things I just wanted about - there's a scene where they go to this little local store & the locals are kind of rude but it actually serves no purpose. Just pages & stereotyping people who live in remote areas. The one ghost warns Harper she's in danger but when everything happens - it's nothing. What's supposed to be the big climax is like grabbing a big bag of chips & opening them to find it's all air & hardly anything in the bag. It was anticlimactic. It's was a nice change from the usual Harper "I can take care of myself" "I'm self sufficient" blah blah blah to her life literally being in danger cause she didn't listen to anyone (ahem Jared) & Jared (or a ghost in some cases) has to save her life & possibly kill someone but there was nothing to it. Just folded without some much as a fight. I loathe to read the next couple books because they are just not holding it together. Maybe that's a problem when you binge read a series - you see all the mistakes or erasing of history cause it's all fresh in your mind where if they come out every few months you might not remember 100%. I liked this series in the beginning, didn't love it. Didn't think it was great but I liked it. Now, maybe not so much.

Harper does it again..

I have loved every single book by Lee/Hart and highly rated them all this one however is just a little bit off.. it's good but not quite her usual standard.

I don't know what dampened the tale a little.. maybe it was the odd bit in the supermarket where they were warned off by Betty.. Betty doesn't appear again and couldn't possibly know anything that would link that into the thread.. so it's just hanging out a little bit like when you catch a thread in your sweater.. it's not unraveling but it's irritating unless you can sew it back in.

It could be that out of the whole campsite they only really meet two other couples and three of the employees, so there's no list of suspects to whittle down.. or the cemetery scene is a bit wasted too as nothing seems to be connected to it.. and finally it's possibly because the endorsement by Harper and GHI isn't a very strong lead in the first place..

I don't know.. I just felt a little disappointed.. nevertheless it's Harper and Zander and Jared and Shawn.. and I am still eager for the next book especially with two weddings in the offing and Harper's mother to deal with.. now there's lots of potential for murder and mayhem without any doubt!!

Entertaining Paranormal cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. If I can cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Harper Harlow is a young woman who can see and speak to ghosts. Along with her best friend since kindergarten Xander they run ghost hunters Inc. Together they go around vanishing ghosts from peoples homes and businesses as well as running cemetery tours in a small town. They occasionally help local police with unsolved cases because Harper occasionally can find a ghost and get answers and find clues that the police cannot. This time Harper Xander her boyfriend Jared and Xander’s boyfriend Sean are off on a camping trip to a haunted campground. It’s a promotional trip set up by the owner of the campground. What possibly could go wrong? Well first off I Harper is Xander heat camping so there is that. Read on and find what adventure in trouble they get into this time.

Great story but.......

I love these stories and have read them all and the others. I feel that the dynamic between Zander and Jared is getting annoying. Obviously Zander has common sense and is and has been a great friend but Jared is so disrespectful to him and as his friend she never backs him up, quite honestly she’s beginning to behave like Jared. I feel there needs to be a fix of that because it’s odd and uncomfortable. But great read and obviously you’ve made me love your characters because I’m standing up for them like I know them so changing from a three to a four star but please make Jared respect Zander and make her stand up for her bestie.

Everyone needs a Zander!

Oh my Heart! This book was great! As usual Zander is up to his antics and full of himself. Harper and Jared are still gooey in love and they all go camping. Ghosts and Murder ensue and its all tied up nicely at the end. I did have a rough time with Harper hating camping though because I always picture her a little bit tomgirly. Obviously Zander would hate it but I really was thrown by Harper's attitude towards it. She is much more "city" than Ivy I guess. All together wonderful next installment and I absolutely can NOT wait for the weddings!

Love Harper and Zander time!

Even though Harper and Jared are the romance, this series is really about best friends, Harper and Zander. They have to be one of the best duos in writing. I love their take on camping because I feel the same way! The murder mystery was fun and I look forward to more!

Review of Ghostly Camping

I have rally enjoyed all of the Harper Harlow Mystery books. Each new story seems to be better than the last. I hope Lily Harper Hart keeps the Ghostly stories coming for a long time to come. I love the four main characters and their friendship with each other even though they are all so different they are there for each other no matter what.

This was a very entertaining murder mystery that involved one fake murder and two real murders in a campground. Harper and her gang find themselves entrench in trying to solve it all. The humor that the author uses with her characters is fantastic and makes the story that much more captivating. Thoroughly enjoyed this story and definitely recommend it.

I had already read the previous books in the series and I think I liked them more. I think my reading stylist changing this book seemed to start out slow to me, but I did enjoy reading it. The characters bantering back-and-forth a little bit of humor about halfway through the plot picked up overall I would give it a four and I probably will read the next one in the series.

Murder Mystery Camping.

The two couples are off to the Upper Peninsula for a murder mystery camping adventure. It's a shame that Harper and Zander hate camping, while Jared and Shawn thinks it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

The ghostly great outdoors

I loved the change of venue to a repurposed state campground in the U.P. Harper and company solve murder mysteries while coping with camping issues, notably no hair dryer or hair gel (ok, that's mostly Zander).

Loved it!

I hate camping, but the idea of a murder mystery themed camping trip sounds like it would be fun. Zander had me laughing and snort-laughing with his antics. This was a good one!

Living in the U.P. I was really looking forward to this book. Was hoping for more of the UP aspect but still a great book. Just can't get enough of Zander and I really enjoy the foursome together. Great read. Patiently waiting for the next book. Enjoy

Its ok

This was ok for me. I just couldn't get into this book as much as the others and I can't explain why really. Maybe I just wasn't in a camping mood or that Dancer really is getting on my nerves. Its still a decent read, I just had issues getting into the story personally.
