He may be the town's Golden Boy, but he's my worst nightmare.

Hunter Prince tossed me away like discarded trash.
His cruelty, among other things, forced me to leave town and never look back.

Until now.

Now I’m here with only one objective in mind—to better my future.
This is my only shot, so I can't screw it up.

However, that may be out of my hands it seems.

After nearly three years of silence, I come face-to-face with the enemy.
I wasn't prepared to see him, just like I'm not prepared for the ultimatum that falls from his sinful lips, either.

He’s bigger, meaner, and still stuck on hating me.

If he finds out my little secret, he'll have a valid reason to.
Because my secret is really our secret, and it has ten fingers, ten toes, and a mouth just like his daddy.

Oh, yeah, freshman year just got a bit more interesting.

**Our Secret** is a 130,000 word full-length standalone novel, featuring college, bully, secret baby romance within an interconnected storyline that is based in a fictional town called Golden Oaks. Each book will pertain to a different couple, but will all be about the same group of guys known as the ‘Golden Crew’ from high school. As of now, this is book one in a series of four, but there could be a spin-off series in the future. Contains foul language and sexual situations. Any sex featured is consensual.

POV: Dual First Person
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: 1 Star

Warning: Major Spoilers Ahead.

Is it possible to give less than one star? If so, this book will surely take the cake. It was so, so predictable that I was rolling my eyes every few seconds. We have Harloe, our main protagonist, who was pregnant at 15 and went to share the news with Hunter, her boyfriend and childhood best friend, but guess what happened? She finds Hunter cheating on her and decides not to tell him and flees the town.

During the separation, she remains celibate but Hunter? He fucked his way through the school to cope with Harloe's betrayal because he thinks she slept with his brother, Owen. *Cue the eye roll.*

Now Harloe's back because the town has the only university that has daycare and she was rejected everywhere else. And so starts the drama between Harloe and Hunter. She doesn't tell him that he has a son and he doesn't admit why he hates her. They continue fighting each other for more than half the book.

Here are some quotes from Hunter's perspective:

"I did who I wanted when I wanted and didn’t think of consequences because they were beneath me."

The idea of her being with another man, let alone someone who’s not me—regardless of whether I’m pissed off at her or not—drives me to want to commit murder.

"For God's sake, he's the only guy I've ever had sex with! He's the only man who’s known me intimately, and that includes something as innocent as fucking kissing.

Of course, she can't be with another man but he can be with whomever he wants. Double standards much?. This manwhore-prude troop is not sexy. And this is Hunter:

Yes, what I did with Cassandra was terrible. I'm not even going to deny that because that's trying to justify my actions when at the time, I didn't need justification. Everything I have done has been to try and heal myself. Now, don't come at me with your pitchforks. I know I could've gone about the whole Harloe and Owen situation differently. I could have been more mature about it, rather than trying to make her jealous by having Cassandra there and completely obliterating her heart.

Also the way he views the female population is just plain disgusting.
These are literally his thoughts about one of his teachers;

Plus, that teacher ... she's hot as fuck. Hardly any of us could get any work done because we were too busy staring at her ass or her barely-there cleavage she was sporting by undoing the top three buttons of her shirt. We could even see her lacy black bra, and that gave me a raging boner.

Why does the author think we need to know this? This does not make him appealing. It makes him repulsive and an asshole who only thinks with his dick.
And this is his excuse.

Hey, you can take the man out of the boy, but you can't take away his petulant thoughts. It's ingrained in our DNA, and make no mistake, we're not going to spout out excuses for it.

The problem was never her. The heart of the problem is me. I'm one hundred percent human, and I'm allowed to make mistakes every now and then. Then again, so can everyone else.

These are just plain stupid.

Dicks are actually pretty fucking disgusting unless they're in their “useful” state. Ladies, you know what I'm talking about. I've nicknamed it the “get fucked” state, which seems pretty self-explanatory. Otherwise, they look like shriveled up sea cucumbers, and that's just not attractive at all.

Because girls our age seem to be stuck in the hair twirling and biting their lip stage. Sorry, ladies, but that's not attractive. It just makes you look empty-headed, boring, and immature.

Hunter is trying to run Harloe off the university. He makes threats and bullies her. And then when she starts looking for other options, this is his view;

“You’re going to leave. Again. Tuck your goddamn tail between your legs and take off like a chickenshit.”

“Leaving,” he states in that sexily lazy way of his. “That’s a coward’s way out. The Harloe I know wouldn’t give in so easy.” “I’m not a chicken,”

Sure, you're not a chicken. You're just weak with no backbone. And to top it off, Harloe had the worst case of body betrayal, the "my-mind-wants-this-but-my-body-wants-that". So, so frustrating.

It's hard to think when my entire body aches for the only thing Hunter has ever provided. But I have to.

“I feel nothing for that asshole anymore.”

I have my eyes set on my prize, and nothing is going to stop me. Not even a butthurt prick like Hunter Prince.

Yeah, we all believe you. Not.

But fuck, you can’t dangle a steak in front of a starving woman and expect her not to reach out for a bite.

Even when he's being an asshole, my body turns into a wanton slut.

This will be the only time I seek out Hunter.

Can you see me rolling my eyes? Can you? Because I am.
Lastly, no two-year-old behaves like this. This is the first time he is meeting Hunter.

Then, he says something that rocks my goddamn world on its axis. It causes Harloe to nearly faint, and Jenna to burst out laughing. "'Bout time, Daddy."

Maverick looks at her, cocking that eyebrow—the same way I do. It's like a tic for us or something.
"Friend?" He snorts. He actually snorts, like he's an average adult and he calls bullshit.

A two-year-old cocking his brow and snorting? Even I can't control my brow properly.

This book was just a waste of my time. Don't even know why I stuck with it.

I picked this one up after someone recommended it in a book group but this book was terrible, I wish I could get my time and money back.

Terrible plot, terrible characters, naive and stupid heroine, idiot hero. A secret baby that somehow is two but sounds like a 10 year old. Terrible dialogue! A big misunderstanding that lasted years. A villian OW that is wrecking havoc all the way through 90%. I skimmed a lot, and almost DNF'd many times. This also needed an editor badly!

Honestly, I don’t care where you stand on abortion...but to have this conversation included in a book where you have a totally VILE h that thinks about her mother the way she did when her mother tells her about abortion being an option, or discuss the pros/cons of abortion the way this book did is virtue signaling, slut shaming, or whatever the fuck you want to call it, and it is polarizing as fuck and has NO PLACE IN ROMANCE.

I will NEVER read this author again. She can just fuck off with her moral ground personal views and leave them the fuck out of her books.

No 2 year old understands why a parent needs to leave for 6 months. That is a line written by someone who has obviously never been around small children.
—“Going to school and leaving him behind sucks. These years are impressionable to my little two-year-old. I’m just tremendously glad that Maverick understands what Mommy is doing. He’s very smart for his age.”

My 16 year old has an IQ of 138 (NO LIE) and she can’t even understand why I want to go grocery shopping alone.

Then there’s this...
h on her support network...
—“Before long, I’ll be able to take care of us without the added efforts of my dad and older brother. No one will be able to look at me like I’m a disappointment. Disgust will no longer shadow their gaze, even when I mess up. Instead, they’ll be impressed that I’m going at it alone. That it’ll be me taking care of Maverick and me all on my own.”

—“Fuck. I don’t know where I’d be without my dad and brother. Oh, and Gammy while I was in high school. They’ve all been my rock since I found out I was pregnant my sophomore year. You’d think they would turn their backs on me, considering how conventional a town like Golden Oaks was, probably still is. But they didn’t.”

Her dad is so supportive...can’t imagine him acting disgusted, maybe a bit disappointed but never enough to make her feel like shit so which is it??

Or this gem her mom says about birth control. Cuz I don’t know...if you’re going to put your kid on BC at 15 maybe you should also emphasize THE NEED FOR PROTECTION FROM STIs. Guess author needed to make her pregnant 15 yo h less complicit in her behavior :/ (((I also could have lived without the pro-life vs abortion lecture.)))
—“You were sick right before Thanksgiving, remember?” she asks. I nod. “You took a round of antibiotics. Gosh, I’m so stupid.”
My eyebrows draw inward in confusion. “Why is that important?”
She regards me softly, pushing a tuft of hair behind my ear. “Antibiotics can mess with birth control, baby girl. I’m sorry for not telling you.”

In the end, the thing the h is so self righteous about over her mother, other than the abortion, is that her mom didn’t tell her dad about it. (He knew, btw, and never said anything to mom). So the h has the baby but doesn’t tell the baby daddy. She raged on and on about how wrong it was of her mother and what a POS she was to withhold info but it’s apparently ok to not tell the baby daddy you HAD the baby.

“Our Secret” was the prime example of lovers to enemies to lovers (bully) romance with a secret baby twist thrown into the mix. I expected this to blow all other bully books out of the water because of that alone but it was a huge letdown.

It was more so to do with the main characters than anything else because I enjoyed the writing style, pace, side characters, and the general baby twist which is not typically found in bully romances. The heroine, Harloe, was weak and gave in too easily when it came to Hunter despite all the hurt he had caused in the past that eventually led her to leave their hometown the day she discovered she was expecting. Then came Hunter, please cue the eye roll because all the misunderstandings and what led to their breakup could have easily been resolved if there was communication on both ends. I won’t spoil it but ugh, it was so predictable and I just wanted to wring his neck for easily believing the lies.

Nonetheless I will probably will be staying away from bully romances for the time being. The repetitive and predictability of the stories just wore me out.

I knew going in reading Our Secret that it was going to be good, and I was not disappointed. Well done Belladona. I was intrigued about the story line, I mean it is not often that you read stories where the bully has a baby, and oh man did things change when he found out, but you know he still managed to be a butt hole about it.

The story itself is eye-catching, Harloe left because her boyfriend at the time Hunter broke her heart when he said he did not love her anymore. And did it in a most horrible way, having another girl, one that she hated there in her place. Little did Hunter know that she was going to tell him that she was pregnant. Skip three years down the road and Harloe is back, trying to make a life for her and her son. But guess who is there? That's right Hunter, who has set out to make Harloe's life hell. But he still does not know the little secret she still has.

So the plot was good, and kept me reading non stop. I had to find out what his reaction would be about his son, I had to keep reading to find out what it was that he thought she did. I am not going to give away any spoilers, but I will say that this was a great read and one I highly recommend.

I read this as an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book can be dark and triggering so be warned. Also please be advised it does mention young teenage pregnancy.

Wow she’s done it again. Belladona Cunning has shown you just how she can write magic. Harloe is such an amazing character she shows you that making mistakes can be rectified and that you don’t have to be a statistic. Her redemption for herself and her love for Her son and the love she holds for her sons father is magical. Hunter did Harloe wrong he didn’t trust the girl he knew and shattered both his and her world, what makes it worse when she finally comes back he doesn’t seek answers for closure he wants to ruin her but, he’ll soon find out the love they had is stronger than anything.

Maverick is a an amazing character he is witty and wise for two years old and I love the way you can see both his parents in his discretion and attitude.

This is a classic bully/ enemies to lovers romance with a secret thrown in with it.

This is a 5⭐️ recommended read by me.

This author had caught my attention back with one of her first books and now I've read all of them and will continue to read them. She just keeps getting better and better. This book had from the beginning and I couldn't put it down until I was finished. The twists and turns will have you flipping pages to find out what's happening next and in the end it was so worth it. And Maverick will squeeze your heart tight I loved him and he was such a great part of this story. I'm so glad this didnt end on a cliffhanger but also can't wait to see what else this author has in store for us with the next book.

This book was tooo long it has WAY to much inner monologue that’s just repetitive!! Editing is needed and tighten up the story maybe lose some of unnecessary extras and this could be an easy 4 star book. That’s my opinion anyway

2-2.5 stars. I really didn't like the hero, Hunter, in this one. He was a real douchebag with a chip on his shoulder. He takes grudge holding to the next level and the author tried to show how much he still loved the heroine, Harloe, underneath the layers of hate by suggesting that he always still managed to feel something in her presence. But it was a hard sell because of how mean and cruel he was, and the fact that he had a girl friend (not girlfriend) whom he used as a distraction for the last several years and she was terrible. The crass and crudity of his nature just didn't sit well with me in the way he referred to that girl friend or how he asserted himself over Harloe, too. He offered no space or leeway and it was irritating, like a double standard really. As for Harloe, she was strong in the way that she had her priorities straight and couldn't be scared off easily. Yet whenever it came to Hunter, she did fall in the cringeworthy category of still finding him attractive despite his ugly words and actions. I can't really say he truly suffered the magnitude of his loss from being away from her during those years apart no matter how much he pouted about it only because he numbed himself in other ways. And when it came time to make amends, he didn't do much in the way of a grand gesture or apology, at least not where it made an impression. In the end, he still seemed shallow and selfish and I felt bad that Harloe settled.

I really enjoyed this story, the characters were all really likeable, even Easton who I wanted to punch in the face at the beginning! This book is the epitome of a bully romance and had everything I love in a story, throw in the adorable Maverick and it’s a winner!

However, there was quite a lot of unnecessary rambling that I found myself skipping and feel this book could have been condensed into 300 pages of quality writing. And one of my biggest big bears where children are involved in a story is when writers don’t do their homework on child development, while Maverick was as cute as a button and completely stole the show, no two year old has the intelligence or the articulation that he has! There were also a couple of inconsistencies throughout the book, hunter locked his bedroom door but Cass managed to get in, Harlow said that hunter knew full well she had only been with him, even though they hadn’t seen each other in three years!

But all in all, I still loved this storyline, and the swoon worthy HEA, I will definitely be reading Zekes story, although the one I am most excited for has to be Easton, I loved his character in the end and feel like there is a great storyline to him!

24% in am I’m annoyed more than anything. Other than the MMC being childishly angry and the FMC having a nonexistent confrontation about the MMC’s cheating and her running away to have a child nothing much has happened. The inner thoughts by both characters are ridiculous. The MMC keeps hating on her but never asked any questions from what he’s shown so far and the FMC decides to go back to a town she is trying to hide her child from. While planning on bringing said child to this same town. It makes no sense. I’m skimming most of what I’m reading and I’m just annoyed that it hasn’t gotten to the point yet.

81% UPDATE

Being a father is a magnanimous job? What?? This author doesn’t know what she’s saying.

FINAL UPDATE

I would give this two and a half stars. This author needs serious editing and better pacing for her plot. A lot of it was unnecessary dragging out of the MMC’s stup!ty. But other than that I was interested in the characters enough to want to see what happens to them. There really isn’t any on page comeuppance for the OW considering the long game she played. The OM was also handled too swiftly and easily and then never mentioned again. Oh well. Good luck.

Second-chance college bully romance with an interesting premise. It’s about a teen mom entering college only to be confronted with her ex-bf who cheated on her and broke her heart three years prior and fathered her secret baby.

Unfortunately, the book entirely misses the mark and is so poorly written that the eye-rolling gave me a headache. It has the dumbest and least developed MCs, and the most unrealistic secondary characters that you’ll ever have the misfortune to read. The H and h are honestly too stupid and immature to be the parents of a two-year boy who sounds more like a genius preteen than a toddler who’s “very smart for his age”. Yeah, sure, whatever you say, lady🙄. The author should’ve done some research into the way toddlers communicate because all the scenes with the kid are not believable at all.

I usually give a lot of leeway to indie authors re editing mistakes, but this book is littered with poor grammar, making it a chore to read. It made my eyes bleed, but I persevered because all the improbabilities made me chuckle.

"She needs to see the monster she turned me into".

Wow! Our secret left my mouth open more times then none. There where twists and turns I didnt see coming. In this story we meet Hunter and Harloe. They have history and what a history it is. Something happens between them to make Harloe leave their town. Well she comes back and the hatred Hunter has for her shocks her. Thats the beginning to a hell of a roller coaster ride. This was a amazing first story to a beginning of what im sure will be a even more amazing series. There are so many characters you will love in this one. Now bring on Zeke!!! I cant wait for his!

4.5⭐

Let me preface this review by stating that I typically avoid romance novels with pregnancies. Any type of pregnancy or single parent aspect just doesn't do it for me.

That being said, from the first time I saw this synopsis, it has been on my tbr. I got the notification when it went live and immediately downloaded it.

I was NOT disappointed. This book is fabulous. I loved Harloe. I loved Hunter. I freaking adored Maverick. The side characters are just as enthralling if not more so, like Jenna and Easton, Leo, Zeke, and Emmerson. I am obsessed and will be anxiously awaiting the next standalone in the series.

Loved it!!!

I was so excited when this book released and read it as fast as I could! Bella’s books are so great and she is one of my favorite authors. Harloe is a strong woman and I loved seeing her character get stronger! Hunter was a total ass in the beginning and I’m glad he went through all the pain more than Harloe. Jenna is fucking awesome!!!! Can’t wait for the next book for Zeke’s story!

Good book

Lies and betrayal got between Hunter and Harloe in high school but Harloe took a secret with her. Now years later their paths cross again. But will they be able to overcome? Belladonna has done it again with this one. So much emotion. Anger, bitterness and sadness. But also love.

My goodness. This book made my head hurt

I honestly found myself hoping they wouldn't get together at all. There was nothing redeeming whatsoever about the hero's character. Absolutely nothing

The 2 year's old behaviour was super unbelievable.

It was a cute little story to read.
It’s finally not a story where you get to actually hate one side, even though I was expecting some more punishment, resistance, and payback (in the case of the antagonist).
Overall, a good read.
