I’m a twenty-year-old something born in Montreal, Canada but currently living in Virginia for school. I would tell you want my major is however after two years I still have no idea what I’m doing.

So I’m a writer (duh that’s how you found me), movie enthusiast, and self-proclaimed chef. I love music even though I can’t sing or dance to save my life. (That doesn’t necessarily stop me but you’ve been warned.)

I started Ruthless People the summer of 2013 in hopes of giving myself a new type of love and crime drama. I never knew so many people thought like me! I feel truly blessed to have fans like you all! Writing is my true love and having you all enjoy my words is a dream come true.

Let me start off by saying that I'm the fool that didn't know this wasn't a standalone. So when I got to the ending, I was all like WHAAAAAAT?! You better believe I'll be looking forward to part two, which is due to release on November 27th.

What you'll get with this book:
✔ a playboy prince who didn't seem to be answerable or responsible for anything
✔ said prince finding his way, finding growth, and finding his heart while being manipulated to find a wife with means
✔ a rich girl who isn't really aware of her absolute privilege who is vehemently opposed to getting married. When her father's will dictates that she gets no money if she doesn't have a husband, she has a lot of thinking and reevaluating to do
✔ hot and cold treatment, a heroine who can't make up her mind, and a hero who has to learn a new approach to getting what he wants
✔ sweet, sweet banter and tons of cuteness
✔ an entertaining and delightful read

I've been a huge JJ McAvoy fan ever since I devoured her Ruthless People series. I've read plenty of her contemporary work, loved them, and loved this. She nailed the whole 'marriage of convenience' trope and although this is an extremely slow burn (I'm talking no intimacy, people!), I found myself captivated by this story. I need the next book STAT!

What a lovely modern day Royal’s romance! Slow burn—Arranged marriage—interracial couple..count me in!

This story had me giggling, swooning and gasping because of the way it ended. I need book 2 ASAP! What a cliffy. Gale is absolutely Perfect. He won me over with his letter writing.

Odette reminds me so much of myself and how I used to be concerning apprehensions of turning your heart over to love at the risk of getting hurt. Daddy issues what can I say. Nothing like the perfect man to prove everything that you thought you knew about love to be wrong.

This was my first JJ novel, and I’m dying for more! She’s a wonderful writer!!

This modern day royal romance is amazing. It has a very Christmas type of romantic movie feel to it, which I really love.

What you will get in this book:
- Royal romance
- Arranged marriage
- American heiress drama
- conversations full of banter and witty dialogues
- Stubborn female main character and a swoon worth love interest
- Earth shattering ending
- And lastly, dramatic rich mothers at war

I loved every second of it. It was everything I wanted and more! I can’t wait for the second book❤️

I just can't take it any more.
Don't know if there are adult scenes or not. They haven't happened yet.
The dialogue is extremely stilted.
There is a little bit of humor but not enough to keep me reading.
The story itself comes off too YA for me.
And a whole lot of nothing is happening.

I give up.

First off, the cover. Isn't it PERFECT? I may have considered licking it.

Ok, now about the book:

To be able to collect her inheritance, Odette Wyntor needs to get married, and what a better choice than a Prince that requires the same thing. The difference? He needs it to save his family and the monarchy from royal bankruptcy. And even though none of them is thrilled with the plan—an arranged married is their only option.

Gale is sent to the States to spend some time with Odette, and although he resisted the idea of marriage, the moment he saw her, everything changed. But Odette is stubborn as hell, so convincing her won't be an easy task.

It was a delight to read about them getting to know each other and falling in love, so that's why it hurt too much when J.J. Mcavoy said fuck it, and broke my heart with that ending.

The Prince's Bride hits all the right notes with its charm, humor, romance, and slow-burn deliciousness. J.J. Mcavoy hit the sweet spot with Gale and Odette's story. I was glued to the pages from the very beginning and barely came up for air.

I'm in desperate need of the next book.

This book was amazing. Having read Ruthless People by J.J McAvoy previously, I fell in love with her writing so I decided to read another series from her.
When I tell you I could not put this book down. It had so many tropes that I loved:
- Slow Burn
- Marriage of Convenience
- Royalty
I could not believe it was over when i read the last chapter. Highly recommend this book.

The Prince’s Bride is a slow burn royal romance, surrounding an arranged marriage. Pressured by their duty, Gale and Odette are both resistant towards the possibility of marriage. However, as they come to spend time together, their perspectives shift, and life takes an unexpected twist which inevitably alters the course of their future. J.J. McAvoy leaves the reader curious, as the book ends on a cliffhanger.

I've been reading J.J. McAvoy's books for years now and the one thing she's consistently good at is creating worlds that you just want to get lost in.

I definitely enjoyed this book but it took me a while to get invested. At first I was really into this book, then I sorta lost interest about 25% in and it took me months to make myself pick this back up and I truly cannot tell you why I was so against picking it up. I think I just wasn't in the right mood for it but when I picked it back up this weekend, I got really invested in the characters and this world.

Odette is a heroine you can root for. Gale is a hero that I grew to like, but he's actually the kind of hero I usually stay away from now. Cocky, player, rich guy who doesn't really care about much other than himself. But, as we got to know Gale I saw other sides of himself and more importantly, we see him acknowledge his privilege which I really liked. I also liked that their romance was a slow-burn and nothing was rushed in that department. I mean, I guess in some ways it was, but it was realistically done, given the circumstances in the plot.

I'm giving this three stars because I definitely liked it and I love this author's writing, but I did not like the twist at the end of the book and for a long time, I contemplated DNF-ing this because I was really bored. However, I would actually recommend this book to romance readers as I truly think the reason why I had a hard time with this book was because I was not in the right mood for it, but perhaps if things were different this would've been a 4 or 5 star read for me.

You can read all of my reviews at Nerd Girl Loves Books.

This is a cute, sweet modern romance involving a foreign Prince that needs money to save the royal family and an American heiress that needs to get married to get her inheritance.

Prince Gale of Ersovia has been ordered to marry a wealthy woman to bail out the monarchy who is deeply in debt due to failed management by the King. Odette Wyntor is a popular singer who's billionaire father left half of his fortune to her, on the condition that she get married. Odette's mother is swimming in debt, and Odette needs the money to save her mother.

Neither one of them wants to get married, but both must do their duty to save their families. Their parents have arranged their match, and Prince Gale is sent to Seattle to woo and wed Odette. The couple get off to a rocky start, but through Gale's persistence, sparks begin to fly.

Initially I was a bit put off by the author's writing. The Prince's inner dialogue constantly claimed that whatever Odette said was "hilarious" (when it wasn't) and the Prince constantly "snickered". Luckily the author stopped using those terms as often (or maybe I just got used to them and ignored them). In any event, the writing seemed to get a bit better in the middle of the book.

Considering the Prince was supposed to be portrayed as some playboy lothario, he fell pretty quickly for Odette and was determined to turn her heart. Likewise, she was supposed to be dead set against marriage, but she softened up pretty quickly as well. Considering the book was relatively short (I'm not complaining) I guess the author needed to move the story along quickly.

The last few chapters of the book seemed very rushed, as did the ending, but it was a fantastic cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

You are forever. That is the difference.

This was so good. I’m dying for the second book and I’m in love with Gale and Odette! The marriage of convenience trope is one of my favorites. But this masterpiece of slow burn, friends first, drinking wine and talking all night, lots of kisses, literally romance masterpiece was everything!! And all the drama between Odette’s mom and stepmom was juicy. I’m usually annoyed by that kind of drama but this was written so well. It added just enough drama. Like crazy drama. It was so good. I can’t recommend this enough.

I really enjoyed the siblings and the banter. These were enjoyable wholesome moments that made me love them all. I just smiled the whole time. It was so refreshing. It was so fun. It was so romantic. It was everything I didn’t know I needed and I can’t wait for the second part.

❝From now until the day I die, your dreams are my dreams. Your joy is my joy. Your pain is my pain, and I will never betray you. You are now my body, my mind, my soul, and my heart. You are my sun, my moon, and all of my stars.❞

The beginning of a gorgeous Royalty Series...

I loved the sweet atmosphere of the contracted marriages in the 1800s and the wonderful harmony of Gale & Odette. The fiction was exactly like the present day adaptation of successful arranged marriages in historical romances.

Two people who need to marry for an heiress issue and a contract marriage... I found exactly what I expected from an arranged marriage book. Sweet, peaceful and loved...

I read with pleasure Gale and Odette's discussion throughout the book. Especially fell in love with the poems of Gale, all of his words. An incredibly romantic casanova.

Gale's letters and messages to Odette; The flowers he sent to Odette and their meanings... Every detail touched my heart.

I loved all characters in the book, but I don't know what to think of Odette's mother. Especially after the end of the book...

And Arthur is the only thing that breaks my heart... I want to see and read him in other books.

I'll read the second book soon. I can't wait to reread the love between Odette and Gale.

”From now until the day I die, your dreams are my dreams. Your joy is my joy. Your pain is my pain, and I will never betray you. You are now my body, my mind, my soul, and my heart. You are my sun, my moon, and all of my stars.”

Synopsis:
Arranged marriages seem archaic, but Prince Gale and Odettte are thrown into this exact scenario. Although initially both argued against the idea, eventually they realized there might be some reasons to move forward with the arrangement.

”It is not normal to throw two strangers into marriage and let them figure it out for money.”

My Thoughts: The following are my thoughts about this book:
General:
- Trigger warning: death of sibling (off page)
- Setting: Ersovia and Seattle

Characters:
- Gale (27, Prince Galahad Fitzhugh Cornelius Edgar of Ersovia, House of Monterey):
- the second son and expected to marry an American for money since the monarchy apparently has some financial problems
- Has a great sense of humor and a way with words.
- His father (the King) has early onset dementia but this is not widely known among the people of the country
- Family doesn’t care that he doesn’t want to get married. It’s his duty and that’s that.

- ”Gale, my dear, we would never want you to be unhappy,” my mother declared. “Unless my unhappiness can ensure we remain a great and fabulously wealthy monarchy, of course, then what is a little unhappiness?”

- Odette (27, semi-famous singer, from Seattle):
- Won many beauty pageants when she was a child
- Loves her mother but the contentious relationship her mother has with the “other wife” is exhausting
- Her father died and has left her $51B that she needs to split with her stepsister. There is a marriage and children condition tied to the inheritance.

Story Thoughts:
- I liked Gale and Odette. Each had a bit of snark and sarcasm so their responses during conversation brought a few smiles.

- I’m not sure if there was a previous book, but I was a little confused about why the heir (Arthur) wasn’t required to marry for money and rather it’s the “spare” (Gale) that has to shoulder that responsibility. Yes, the older was married in this book, but I’m sure the family knew there were money problems before he was married. So, why was he not saddled with the arranged marriage in the first place? Maybe that was made clear in a previous book, maybe not. Either way, this wasn’t clear to me.

- I thought Gale had character growth and development. He started out as a bit of a self-centered playboy. But, throughout the story he realized he needed to do the responsible thing for his family and, therefore, he had to learn how to woo a woman. It was cute. The various letters, all the flowers and the sweet words.....❤️🥰

- I really enjoyed their conversations and their humor with each other

- Odette also grew some (but I didn’t feel as much as Gale). She was a bit hot / cold and stubborn. I would have been in a puddle on the floor with all of Gale’s swoony writing /poems. I was a little irritated with her that she wasn’t falling under his spell like I was. 😏

- ZERO intimate “bedroom” moments ☹️☹️. I guess that will happen in book 2 🤷‍♀️

- it ends with a cliffhanger.
- “You will survive this. It doesn’t feel like it. It will take every fiber of your being, but you can.”

- “I wanted to go back just a few hours to when I thought I would never stop laughing. Now I was scared I would never laugh again.”

Overview:
- POV: dual POV
- Tropes: royalty, arranged marriage / marriage of convenience, interracial couple,
- H likable? Yes
- h likable? Yes
- h virgin? Don’t think so, but seeing as they didn’t have sex it didn’t come up
- steamy? Not really. It’s a slow build to their relationship
- OW/OM drama? there was a scene with another woman early in the book, but it was before Gale met Odette. No OW/OM drama after they met
- H/h cheat? No
- Time apart? Not in this book,
- Did I skip pages? No
- Big secrets? No. They were very honest with each other
- Did I cry? I shed one small tear
- Did I laugh? I chuckled a few times
- Cliffhanger? Yes
- HEA? not in this book
- Epilogue? not in this book
- Recommend? I enjoyed it

Quotes
“The further you try to run from your duty, the narrower the path becomes.”

“Everyone knows the only reason a noble marries an American heiress is if they are in need of money. I might as well tattoo the words gold digger on my forehead.”

“Our dad apologized with real estate, not jewelry. Diamond rings are millionaire-level

“How long do you intend to stay?” The officer shook his head and looked down at my passport again.
“Until the woman agrees to marry me, or my family disowns me. Either way, it shouldn’t be longer than two months. I’ll be home by Christmas.”
He stared at me for a moment before his next question. “Are you bringing anything into the United States?”
“Just my achy-breaky heart.”

“I’m not a person—I’m a prince. I’m property of the crown”

“How do you vex me? Let me count the ways.”

“Do not try to look at the end. Instead, enjoy the present with me.”

For the lovers of slow burn modern day royal romance. The Prince’s Bride part 1 brings a beautiful love story to make you swoon. It was sweet, swoony and fun. Since it’s part 1 of 2 books there’s definitely a cliffhanger that will make you beg JJ for part 2.

I loved the hallmark movie vibe that I got from this beautiful love story. The banter between siblings and also the main characters was brilliant and entertaining. There is a mother daughter drama that made the story so much fun. You will definitely love the secondary characters as much as the main.

Odette Wyntor is an African American heiress in need of a husband to be able to collect her inheritance. Prince Galahad of Ersovia needs a bride as duty to his crown and family. This two are force to an arrange marriage. But they won’t come easily and willingly at first. Odette is as talented and beautiful as she is stubborn while Gale is as charming as he is hot. I loved seen this relationship develop and grow. It was incredible mesmerizing. I got all the feels with this couple.

Now to not so patiently wait for book 2. I need to know how this will end for Odette and Gale because that ending twisted my heart.

*** I voluntarily read and review an advance copy of this book.

This is cute, but the slowest slow burn of eternity. 😐 I really need something to spice this up as I am not really a fan of the "royalty" trope/setting/etc. I prefer my arrange marriages in the mafia world.. but that says more about me than the book.

However, I still want to know how this turns out (her books are always right there on the edge for me, when will I learn?) so I am pushing through.

There will NEVER be enough royalty romances featuring Black women as the leads for me so I'm glad I picked this one up. Gale (our playboy prince) and Odette are that oil and water couple who really do belong together despite themselves. I really love how Odette is the rich heiress rather than the lovely yet broke heroine who needs a fortune to save whatever. I didn't like how said fortune was tied to marrying in order for her to inherit it and her dead billionaire father merited a "you suck" from me. I also liked that she had a life as a musician (I was getting Tori Amos/Sarah McLachlan vibes when Gale described her music as "depressed siren" lol).

However, what really made this book shine were the secondary characters, especially Odette's beauty queen mother Wilhelmina, and Prince Gale's two bodyguards - the inscrutable Iskandar Ruegg and his more earnest younger protégé Wolfgang von Wolfgang. I kind of had it bad for Iskandar despite his "by the rules" mien. He really loved and cared for his wayward charge and his actions spoke more than his words. Wolfgang was simply adorable and easily one of Odette's biggest fans.

I don't have a lot to say about Prince Galahad aka Gale. Normally the playboy prince trope bores me but when it's done well, especially when the sudden object of his affections is totally immune to his charms which Odette is. In fact, the only reason for him to be in her life was the royal family needed money. She didn't need to marry him for her fortune, just anyone would do. That's got to deflate a princely ego and that's all to the good. Gale actually has to work at being a better man worthy of Odette.

I really could see this as a Lifetime or Netflix series. I'd personally cast Anna Diop or Michaela Coel as Odette, Sam Heughan as Gale and Kerry Washington as Wilhelmina. Oh and James Frain as Gale's brother and heir apparent. FYI: this is a slow burn romance so just know going in.

„Do not try to look at the end. Instead, enjoy the present with me.”

I adore books about modern royalty and I love marriage of convenience trope. And let me tell you, J.J. McAvoy mixed the two brilliantly! The Prince’s Bride is a sweet and swoony slow-burn romance that will give you all the feels. It’s filled to the brim with sizzling chemistry, witty banter and delicious push and pull. It’s such an entertaining and heartfelt story that it’s just impossible to put down!

Neither Gale nor Odette were in a hurry to the altar, however, they both found themselves in a situation that required exactly that. The young playboy Prince is forced by his family to be married in order to save the crumbling monarchy. A beautiful heiress and singer must find a husband to gain access to her trust fund. Although they both initially resisted this idea conceived by their families, the time they spent together brought them closer and awakened feelings they had not expected. Gale is a real Prince Charming who will steal your heart. Odette is a strong and independent woman who’s not swept off her feet easily. And even though their 'getting to know each other' was sweet, fun and adorable, I wanted to grab them like dolls and made them finally kiss!

This story is lovely and heartwarming. I love that Mrs. McAvoy threw diversity into the mix and that the romance between main characters isn’t rushed. And although the steam level is lower than I’d like, I understand that it's significant in this story. I know that J.J. can write a scorching hot scenes, so now I cannot wait for the second part of Prince’s Bride, especially after that jaw-dropping ending!

This was a fun modern, royal romance that was a light and playful read. Gale is prince of Ersovia, a european nation, and his family is in a financial crisis. He essentially needs to marry for money and thus his arranged marriage with the wealthy heiress Odette.

Neither Gale nor Odette want to marry for money but they both have a responsibility to their family for various reasons to see the marriage through. Gale especially understands his duties to the crown and spends most of this book convincing Odette to marry him. I loved how most of the story is about these two learning about each other and their attraction was definitely mutual from the beginning. I did feel that both characters were on the immature side. There's nothing wromg with that but I found some of their banter slightly annoying as a result.

I enjoyed the slow burn with mild sexual tension. I loved the humor that was introduced from the various side characters including Odette's mother and Gale's bodyguards. The actual storyline was good although there wasn't much depth. There is a very surprise ending that demands that you read book 2 to see how the story progresses. The only critique at the end was Odette's mother's response to the twist. I'm not going to reveal spoilers but her behaviour didn't make sense and it annoys me when characters act out of their perceived norm just to add drama to a story.

I was really excited to read a 'Prince Harry and Meghan' like fairytale and I enjoyed it for the most part but it did fall short in some aspects for me. Definitely looking forward to book 2 though and I'm hoping I'll enjoy that one more.

Eeek, that cliffhanger!! Did not see that coming at all.

The Prince’s Bride (Part 1) is the arranged marriage/marriage of convenience tale between Odette, a society heiress and Gale, a royal prince from Europe. The nitty gritty is that Odette needs to get married and have kids to get her inheritance, and Gale’s family needs money after their father’s diagnosis of dementia has led him to mostly squandering royal money…so they need money.

This book is mostly Odette and Gale getting to know each other, despite both protesting the idea of an arranged marriage. They spend time together in Odette’s city (Seattle) basically dating and slowly warm to the idea of committing their lives together. There’s also some family drama that made me want to scream. I need to see how it’s resolved in the next book.

Part 1 ends on a tragic cliffhanger and I am downloading the next book ASAP. The audio was fantastic! Wesleigh Siobhan was perfect for Odette and Shane East’s accent for Gale had me swooning!

TROPES: royalty; marriage of convenience/arranged marriage; interracial (black heroine/white hero); dislike/strangers to lovers; family drama; slow burn; ends on a cliffhanger

TRIGGER WARNINGS: mentions of death of loved ones

I AM SCREAMING OMG THIS WAS SO GOOD

The book starts with like a discussion of the monarchy and wealth and aristocracy and it has this quote which just eats to me idk

“Nothing fought death more than a monarchy.”

Okay so the premise is they both have to like get married, her for her inheritance and him to like save the crown. They’re both like kinda anti it but when they meet he says this and it’s so cute. After like he first sees her he says this an like.

“the poets are right. No one will believe me, and many others will think I am insane. But I want the sun to rise with my name on her lips and my hand on her hips.”

Okay so like he’s just ahh, and like when they text too it’s just.
“How do you vex me? Let me count the ways. One, you vex me in sight. Your face haunts me day and night. Two, you vex me in might. Your wit matches mine fight by fight. Three, the most vexing is how amused you leave me. —Gale.
It was not a very good poem, but I enjoyed sending it to her nevertheless. Because just as I thought, she was struggling with what to say back. I could tell by the way the three dots appeared and disappeared over and over again.
Checkmate.
Write me a poem, sing me a song, tell all the world of my beauty, dance for me from dusk till dawn, and they will say I am lucky to have you. But I will ask, did you love as you wrote, as you sang, as you told, as you danced? —Odette.”

Like I love them idgaf if it’s pretentious to text like this, okay also the ending made so happy I’m sorry like I literally almost screamed and it’s 1 am. Like I started smiling and told my friend that I’m probably gonna be up all night. I rlly hope the book like continues on this path and I’m excited idk, I’m not sure how I feel about all the side characters yet but we’ll see.

Please 🥺🥺 I am still recovering from the ending of this book, immediately had to run and download the second book bc what??? 😭 I absolutely am smitten over Gale. His banter was hilarious and I love that he did not allow Odette to push him away with her stubbornness lol speaking of Odette, I love how opposite she is from Gale. I love that she is like an onion with many layers needing to be peeled back, but my goodness, her stubbornness was a bit too much sometimes lol I love them two together and I’m so sad they have to navigate such a tragedy before they can even really get to experience each other after the I dos. This was a marriage of convenience written really well and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

What a great way to begin the new year with!

This book delivered a slow burn romance that I didn't know I needed. When I say slow I mean slowww. But oh was it so beautiful.

It contained some of my favourite tropes; marriage of convenience and enemies to friends to lovers.

This story follows Odette who is an American heiress and Gale the Prince of Ersovia. Both of them have been set up for an arranged marriage/marriage of convenience by their parents/families.

I loved reading the interactions between Odette and Gale, they matched each other wit for wit. They were honestly the perfect match for each other, no matter how much either of them tried to deny it.

I'm really excited to continue on with this duet because this ending, wow!

Odette Wynter finds herself in need of a husband that she really doesn’t want. Since she’s not really interested, her mom goes to work eventually finding whom she believes to be the perfect match. Now all her mom has to do is get Odette to agree to this marriage of convenience which will not be easy considering Odette never wanted to get married.
The Prince of Ersovia, Galahad Fitzhugh Cornelius Edgar, needs a wife, and his family seems to think that Odette Wynter would be perfect for him. Reluctantly Galahad, or Gale for short, agrees to the marriage now all he has to do is try and convince Odette that regardless of how they were brought together maybe being together won't be so bad.
The Prince’s Bride is a slow burn romance. Since Odette is not all in on their arrangement, the majority of the story is spent with these two getting to know each other and in turn fall in deep like with each other which makes you really root for this couple. I loved getting to know this couple and was so caught up in their romance, I didn’t even see the ending coming. Let me just say, I was not happy but it made me eager for book 2. Besides the ending, which had me in my feelings by the way, I really enjoyed this story . It has a great flow and the characters are really likable and that is why I am impatiently waiting to see what happens next.
