Intrepid elf reporter, Solstice Winters, is back in this lighting-fast magical mystery thriller by #1 bestselling fantasy authors J.R. Rain and Matthew S. Cox!
Solstice Winters never expected her job as a photojournalist would involve stopping a death god.
She’s only ever wanted the same things as anyone else—a nice career, a safe place to call home, and no magical assassins trying to kill her. Alas, there’s nothing like an unexpected dimensional misalignment to ruin plans. The rapid flood of magic into the world changed her from simple reporter to secret agent in mere months. It also revealed the truth of her being an elf.
Oh, and her cat talks.
Her investigation into who wants her dead stalls when a paranormal entity shows up in her apartment pleading for help. A crazed cult leader halfway across the world has enslaved his people, forcing them to help set an ancient evil loose.
Death gods are a bit too much for the police—or Solstice—to handle. If she can’t stop the summoning, she’ll have much bigger problems than assassins… for the minute or so the world has left to exist.
J.R. Rain is the author of 110 novels and counting. He lives on an island in the Pacific Northwest, where he's hard at work on his next novel... and fighting off sparkly vampires.

This series must be read in order. The first book is "Convergence". The second book is "Containment". The third book is "Catalyst". This is the fourth book. I can't wait to read more!
Ever since The Convergence life has been getting more interesting for Solstice. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen. But it is NEVER boring to say the least. Taking her little sister on a ghost hunt may not be the best idea in the world, but she has already agreed to it, so it is happening. Ghosts are another thing that have become more powerful since the Echo has drawn nearer. Pretty soon people will start reading her tabloid for the truth it is... Or maybe not. The human brain loves to ignore magic after all. Will they get in over their heads on this ghost hunting trip? Or will it be the PG-13 fun Solstice hopes it is? Will bringing her sister turn into the worst idea ever? Or will fun be had by all?
Solstice takes her sister to a ghost haunting for her newspaper. They have a little bit of a wild ride. Solstice is on a job when she gets a call that no one has heard from her sister. She tries to locate her but just get sense of her well being. She receives a call from someone in regards to her sister. They tell her she is safe, they will meet her later. Solstice finds out some information about her sister that throws her for a loop. While at home, she gets a surprise visit from stone man from Botswana, saying he followed her magic to her. He needs her help. She takes him to Felton tell his story. Felton has her go there, to see what is going on.
Things gets interesting for Solstice, with her sister, magic, why someone is killing her and what is going on with these people.
I received an ARC copy of this book, this is my honest review.
I really enjoy the Winter Solstice series and look forward to seeing her powers grow as she learns more about herself. This book has some great characters and Winter is faced with some new challenges, dangers, and even new allies. I look forward to seeing her grow into her powers even more so she can face down the enemies who threaten her and her family. If you have enjoyed the other books in this series, you'll want to get this one too.
I enjoy reading about Solstice and Mr Moody, but this story was a bit slow. Would have preferred the storyline with Eva and the OSA and finding out about Solstice's father.
I’m more used to Cox and Rain with philosophical vampires and such, but this diversion into bumping dimensions was fun. Start with Book 1 or a lot of the references won’t make sense.
I love Solstice. Although the stories deal with death and dark magic they are fun and uplifting. Moody might be my favorite sidekick ever. I love the sass!
