Private investigator Mika Chalmers has no chance to decide whether or not she wants to start dating Eric Foresburg again with a murder on her desk. Georgie Howie, enforcer of the Irvine Buccaneers and Eric's teammate is the prime suspect in the murder of cross-town rival Dave Probst. He hires Mika to prove his innocence, but Mika is only after the truth.
She knows three things:
1) Witnesses saw Georgie Howie beat Probst up outside a swanky Newport Beach bar right on Pacific Coast Highway just hours before he died but nobody knows why
2) Probst officially died of poison, not the assault wounds
3) Georgie is hiding something
On top of that, Mika and Eric are dating again, but Mika worries it's too much too soon. It doesn't help that arrogant Detective Alex Beech is interjecting himself in the case and her love life. It would be nice to know how she feels, especially with Eric seemingly wanting to get more serious. This is what Mika thinks she wants.
But does she?
Not even her new rescue cat, Catsey Cline, can tell her.
With the hockey season finally underway, Mika must get to the bottom of what really happened to Dave Probst before Georgie's career is over on someone else's terms.
With the heated chemistry of Castle and the unpredictable twists and turns of Bones, hockey fans are devouring this new romantic mystery series by a USA Today Best Selling Author.
Full disclosure: I am an acquired taste. I'm a typical blonde Orange County suburbanite who says 'like' more than necessary, laughs loud and probably obnoxiously, and loves to dance in the rain. I'm a 23 year old college graduate with more than a few tricks up my sleeve, and I also happen to be a pretty big Ducks fan. Oh, and I'm a writer. Like, for real.
“Kept on Ice“ is the second instalment in the “Mika Chalmers Hockey Mystery” by Heather C. Myers, an enjoyable and interesting lecture that blends character development and mystery in a way that reminds of any good mature aimed mystery movie series. Mika Chalmers (FMC) is a PI and daughter of the coach of the NHL Irving Buccaneers, a fact that plays a primordial role in all mysteries.
‘Kept on Ice’ takes on exactly when the previous instalment (‘Ice Breaker’), successfully resolving the cliffhanger after Mika restored Eric Forester reputation, opening the door for a renewed relationship. However, Mika has not time to decide whether she wants to date Eric again, because an NHL Buccaneers colleague of Eric’s – George Howie – needs Mika’s help in clearing him for the murder accusation regarding Dave Prost, a rival player. Mika doesn’t really know George, thus nor having a clue as his innocence or otherwise, the only thing she is sure is that George is hiding something, and she really want to know what that ‘something’ is. As Mika begins to investigate, she realizes that Dave had also enough secrets of his own, which only serves to complicate the case and add to the list of suspects.
And while trying to solve the case, Mika and Eric seem to be in different pages of their romantic book: Mika want to go slowly, Eric not so much. To add to the chaos, Mika ‘adopts’ Catsey Cline along the way, and if you don’t know who Catsey Cline’s godmother is, you have never been ‘crazy’ enough…sorry, not sorry… it was a pun to good to waste 😊…. Theirs is only a teeny tiny problem… Eric is allergic, rekindling that love affair does go too well!
Another fast-paced, action packed and interesting mystery, with unexpected turns, good plot twists, and a healthy dose of romantic vibes. The chemistry between Mika and Eric is palpable and credible, as they keep coming together and getting apart like some magnets into a forcefield. Mika is credible, very relatable, and likable, in her fight between falling for Eric again, and trying to spare herself another heartbreak all while trying to find the killer before the police arrest George, and even so keeping her focus on the essentials. A clear recommendation to any mystery fans, specially for those with an ice hockey fav.
The series follows Mika Chalmers throughout diverse adventures that are all comprised into a single story-arc. The books are surely intended to be read in chronological order, and usually end in cliffhangers. However, they offer closed mysteries, and thus can also be enjoyed without any knowledge of the events related in previous instalments, as any key points relevant to the story at hand, are included (in a subtle manner) by the author.
This is the second book in the Mika Chalmers Hockey Mystery series and follows Mika who is a Private Investigator (P.I.) and the daughter of the coach for the Irvine Buccaneers Ice Hockey team. She has already solved the case of her ex-boyfriend Eric Foresburg, a star for the hockey team, who was accused of rape. They are now trying to see if they can get a relationship started up again, after he broke her heart a number of years ago. The case brought them closer and he said he had changed and wanted to make it up to her. Now, she has been asked by another ice hockey player, George Howie, who acts as an enforcer on the ice, protecting the main players and getting into fights, which the fans all love.
He has been accused of killing a rival enforcer Dave Probst, who plays on another local team. He is the main suspect after being seen beating him up quite badly just hours before Dave died. He says he didn’t kill him and the autopsy may confirm that. Only problem is that he is holding something back and Mika agrees only to find out the truth about what happened, when she takes his case. He may not like that very much and as she doesn’t know him personally like she did Eric, she can’t tell whether he is innocent or not. Something else strange about this case is the fact one of the local police detectives se normally clashes with, Alex Beech, has asked for her help with the case, before he ends up arresting any suspects. She is also starting to see Alex in another light, but she is dating Eric, so it is all getting a bit confusing!
Mika starts to investigate the case, but it starts to throw up lots of different suspects, as she finds out that Dave had a wandering eye with a number of secrets of his own and there was a new hockey contract being talked about. George’s career may shortly end, if she can’t solve the case quickly enough, hopefully before he gets arrested. On top of all of this, Eric wants to get more serious, when they were supposed to be taking it slow, while he rebuilt up her trust in him. Interviewing one link, sees her ending up picking up a rescue cat that she names Catsey Cline, not knowing that Eric is allergic to cats. A great mix of a P.I. and police investigation into a murder, ice hockey background, romance and relationship woes. Mika has a lot to consider both with her work and her love life, whilst she tries to work out who is actually behind the murder. A great, fun and easy read which I would recommend to all. I definitely can’t wait for the next book in the series, after reading this one! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Mika Chalmers, daughter of the Irvine Buccaneers hockey coach, works as a private detective. When the defense lawyer Ryan King comes to her office with a player from the team, Georgie Howie, they ask for her help in finding the truth before Georgie gets arrested. Dave Probst, a player from a rival team, died shortly after Georgie punched him outside a bar in a public fight. The police were just waiting for the ME’s report before they took official action. Even when it turns out the man was poisoned, Mika will still need to continue her investigation to vindicate Georgie. She just didn’t like the feeling that Georgie was keeping something from her.
It also begins to look like Mika’s love life may be getting more complicated as she has recently questioned her second chance connection with Georgie’s teammate, her hockey player ex-boyfriend, Eric Foresburg, who had walked out on her. She still wasn’t sure she could trust him in their new start. And could Detective Alex Beech also be a contender now for her affections as they work together on Georgie’s case?
This was a well-written, easy to read mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed. The author was excellent at helping the reader know the characters and their personalities. They really came to life quickly! The story line fully invests the reader immediately and quickly moves along in an intriguing story. It was especially good because of the tension between Mika and several characters she was formerly at odds with and who now are working with her in some capacity on the case. Very interesting, and well-handled! Grab your copy and enjoy, right to the startling pause before the next book!
Here's the deal - I read the first book and although I enjoyed the characters and plot, the lack of editing was jarring. But I wanted to read the second book because of the great potential of this series. And I was hoping that the second book was edited better. It wasn't as blatant as in book 1, but the editing was pretty bad in this book too. Name changes, spelling, grammar, and inconsistencies.
One example, Mika drives her own car to meet up with Alex to interview someone. But after the interview, she gets in the detective's car and they drive off. Uhhh... That's just one, but there were other inconsistencies.
It honestly frustrates me because I like these characters and the writing has great potential. But this lack of editing is driving me crazy.
The mystery was decent. I liked the development of the characters. I'm not sure I'm a fan of the cliffhanger ending. And I am definitely not a fan of love triangles. Surprisingly, I think my favorite character in this book was the lawyer, Ryan King. Lose the love triangle and have the lawyer win the girl! :) Profanity: Some, a few f-bombs Sex: Yes, zero detail

I was with this story one hundred percent, until it took the sharp turn at the end. This book closes with one heck of a cliff-hanger and I’m still trying to decide whether I love it or hate it. What I particularly enjoyed was that all the necessary clues for me to figure out the solution alongside Mika are in the story. They’re not obvious and they aren’t held back until the end – two of my pet peeves when reading mysteries. I also liked that we’re seeing Mika mature, in her investigative skills and just in life in general. What didn’t work so well for me was that I’m not really a fan of love triangles. This book has that vibe in spades. While I didn’t hate that aspect of the story, I didn’t like it so much either. There were even a couple of scenes that left me feeling faintly uncomfortable. However, I’m invested now and that ending has guaranteed that I need to know what happens next. I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout.
Mika Chalmers is a private detective and daughter of the Irvine Buccaneers head coach. Bucs player, Georgie Howie, and his defense lawyer walk into Mika's office asking for her help in finding the truth behind the death of Dave Probst, a player for a rival team, who died shortly after Georgie punched him outside a local bar. Mika continues her investigation to clear Georgie even though the medical examiner's report states Dave was poisoned but feels Georgie is hiding something from her. Mika also feels her second chance with Eric Foresburg is too fast and too soon. Mika questions whether she can really trust Eric. Will Detective Alex Beech vie for Mika's heart as they continue to work together? I enjoyed Kept On Ice by Heather C Myers and would recommend getting Kept On Ice and the other books in The Mika Chalmers Hockey Mystery series.

I read the first book in the series and decided to continue on with the series. Overall, I love the characters. Some of their lines are juvenile and out of character, but they are pretty well rounded.
One of my biggest issues is with the fact that this book does not seem edited at all. There are mistakes on every other page. Sometimes it's an easy spelling mistake that can be over looked and other times character names get mixed up and it takes time to work out what is actually happening.
There are also plot holes or times where I'm reading and something has already been explained but to make things more interesting the characters seem to not know something they have already talked about in previous chapters. Something could be talked about between characters in chapter 4 and in chapter 5 they pretend like they never had that conversation and have it all over again.
This is the second book in the series and I've thoroughly enjoyed both. Mika is a private investigator, who will take on a job as long as it's to search for the truth and whatever that might be. Although the murder mystery involving her Father's hockey team is good, it takes a back seat to the drama of Mika's love life. Her Ex figures out he made a mistake in breaking up with her and decides he wants her back. There is also the mysterious Detective Beech, who keeps sending mixed signals. Both the mystery and the romance are well written and keeps the reader engrossed in the story until the killer is found. Kept on Ice does have a jaw dropping ending as a hint to the next book that will definitely have you waiting on the edge of your seat to find out what happens.

When PI Mika's boyfriend's team mate is suspected of murdering a rival player it throws her into a partnership with local Police detective Alex Beech to find out the truth
Following on from Book 1 this combines the murder investigation with the confused love life of our central character as she juggles her relationship with boyfriend Eric and her sometime detective partner Alex.
The plot is interesting but some of the supporting cast are somewhat one dimensional. The balance between the murder investigation and Mika's relationship issues is too far weighted towards her thoughts about Eric/Alex and this can distract from the overall plot.
However, this is still an enjoyable story deserving of 3 stars. If less time was taken with the Eric conundrum then I would've upped it to 4 stars.
This was a thoroughly engrossing murder mystery that kept me guessing until the very end. Mika is hired by her friend, one of her father’s players, to defend him from a murder charge. The victim plays for a rival team and Mika works with Detective Beech to find the killer. She’s also trying to make things work with Eric, her ex boyfriend and star hockey player while being encouraged to apply to the police department by Detective Beech, who she finds very attractive. Mika is a great character. She’s likable, stubborn and dedicated to finding the truth. The cliffhanger ending was a bit of a shock so I need to go find book three now. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
A good second book in the series Private investigator Mika Chalmers is on another case but she has the distraction of Eric. Can they make a relationship work??? But when she is on a murder case she starts to work with Alex Beech again he is beginning to be a real distraction about her time with Eric. Can she solve the case or with she be to distracted by Eric and Alex???? This is a good read, full of suspense and drama. And the cliff hanger at the end threw me for six. I cant wait for the next book and find out what truly happened. My heart is aching for Mika.

I am really loving this series, combining my favorite sport with a mystery is an all around winner for me.
Mika is asked by Georgie Howie and his attorney Ryan King to investigate the death of Dave Probst, a hockey rival but best friend of Georgie. Georgie and Dave got into a physical fight outside a local bar, but several hours later Dave does from an apparent poisoning. The plot get complicated when Mika discovers Dave had several women on the side besides his wife. Further complicating Mika's investigation is her relationships with Eric and Detective Beech. Really must read this book!

This series is a ton of fun to read. While I’m not a hockey fan and that seems to be the background of the set up for these stories it doesn’t change how much I’m enjoying them. I love Mika! She’s 100 percent relatable. I love her grit and determination, her integrity and her emotional awareness. That cat is a huge plus too lol. She’s got great instincts and works well both with and without the police to solve her case. The mystery is clever and I loved the aha moment. The back and forth with Beech is awesome! Little worried about Eric and how that will turn out but I’m loving the journey so far!.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Mika and her private investigator company. She's a firecracker who is trying to do good. No matter if the client is innocent her only goal is to find the truth. When Georgie Howie comes in and needs help about his involvement in beating up a fellow hockey player. She's fighting her feelings for Eric and her friendship with Beech. Everything is in the air.

Georgie Howie, a hockey player and enforcer on the team, is accused of murder. Mika is hired to prove the truth. Along with Detective Beecher, she works to find the truth of who murdered the opposing teams enforcer. She is also trying to find her way with renewing her relationship with Eric. I didn’t see the outcome at all! Super surprised me. And the ending! OMG! Hat the heck?! I can’t wait to read the next book!

First off, I really love that this book (and series so far) is tame in regards to foul language and intimate scenes. I love a good mystery and a strong heroine. Mika is a fantastic character. She and Beech's friendship just keeps getting better and better. There was a believable and good twist as to who actually committed the crime Mika and Beech were investigating. This series is charming and addicting. I want to read all of these books.

This is book 2 of the Mika Chalmers mystery series. Beech is trying to get Mika to become a detective with the police department. They work together and she does a great job as a PI. She is trying to work on her relationship again with Eric, but something is happening with her and Beech. One of the players got into a fight with another player and then the other player was murdered. Mika is trying to find out the truth who killed the player. Will she find the killer? What is happening with Beech?.

Mika, P.I., is hired to defend one of Eric's teammates who is accused of murdering another hockey player with his fist. It's up to her to follow the clues until she reaches her goal, all while trying to navigate a growing love triangle. This is an interesting mystery with, perhaps, more romance than mystery but still a good tale which ends in a dramatic cliff hanger. There were, however, some things that I personally would not have included in the story but I'll read on till the end of the series.

Mika don't have time to rest, with resolving the case, her relationship with Eric getting complicated, prospect of joining Alex Beech as a partner what could go wrong?
Fast and enjoying read for mystery fans, and the ending?I did not expect that. It's not a cozy read.

Kept On Ice is book two of The Mika Chalmers Hockey Mystery. In this book Mika is hired by Georgie, an enforcer of the Irvine Buccaneers, who is accused of killing Dave Probst a player from another team. The writing is good, the characters are believable and the story is filled with mystery, intrigue, unexpected twists and a cliffhanger ending that left me wanting the next book asap. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Mika is once again helping out one of her father’s players who has found themselves in quite the jam. She is trying to rekindle things with Eric while investigating. Lots of secrets in this one. Things are also changing in her relationship with Beech. The ending of this one has me a bit confused. Can’t wait to get the rest of the story in book three. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by booksprout.
Book 2 of The Mika Chalmers Mystery series. Really need to read the previous book before this one.

There were so many continuity errors in this book it just made it really hard to read. The author got character’s surnames wrong consistently, one moment she slept on the sofa then next she was tossing and turning in bed. And the ending, one moment she’s at a surprise party in a police station for solving a case, the next she’s in hospital being told she’s been r****. How does that fit in with the timeline? I don’t get it. I won’t be continuing with this series.

This is such a great series so far. I love the hockey aspect. And Mika is coming out as a great Pi. Her and Eric are together but she’s wondering if it’s too much too soon. Another case lands on her desk and full out in the mystery and suspense of what’s going on. I love the twists and turns and all the characters. It really keeps me turning the pages. Have a great time with this one.
This is the second in the series and I found it just as good as the first. It is follow on series and the relationship between Mika, Beech and Eric is becoming rather intense whilst she has to deal with her current case as well as Ryan.
