She runs her trembling fingers over the dark, damp walls surrounding her. Above her head, she hears heavy footsteps. She knows she has nowhere to hide and as the door to the cellar is flung open, she finally sees his face.

It’s winter in Black Rock Falls and, as tourists flock to the small town to take in the snowy mountain peaks, one visitor makes a sickening discovery. The frozen body of a young woman hangs from a tree on the outskirts of town. Detective Jenna Alton is called in to investigate.

Jenna’s stomach turns as she surveys the ice-cold remains, and she’s soon alerted to similar burial sites nearby. With no missing persons reported, Jenna and her deputy, David Kane, fear Black Rock Falls is being used as a dumping ground for bodies.

As the body count mounts up, Jenna is more determined than ever to find the person responsible. But as she tries to catch the killer out, he outsmarts her once again and Jenna begins to wonder if he knows her next move. Could he be closer to her than she thinks?

When the investigation takes Jenna to a homeless shelter right in the heart of the community, she fears for the life of a woman who hasn’t been seen for a few days. It’s clear the killer is beginning to escalate, so Jenna ramps up the investigation and puts herself in unthinkable danger. Can she catch the murderer off guard, or does he already know she’s on her way? Has Jenna finally met a killer she can’t catch?

Her Shallow Grave is the ninth police procedural in the Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane series based in Black Rock Falls, Montana Sheriff’s Department. Kane and Alton are on a well-deserved skiing break but of course, wherever they go there seems to be trouble. Kane discovers a frozen and dismembered body hanging from a tree surrounding the slopes as though the killer was proud to display his work. When more bodies show up they believe they have a serial killer on their hands and suspect the serial killer to be choosing his victims from the homeless population making it difficult to identify them. The murder of the young girls are horrific as the killer slaughters them before freezing their bodies and creating sculptures out of them but also hindering their investigation is the local weather; the falling snow covers any tracks that may have helped the team progress. To make matters worse David Kane interviews a woman in relation to the case and she rapidly becomes obsessed with him. Bringing in gifts to the department despite him showing no interest that the feeling is reciprocated.

If you're a fan of gritty serial killers then this is a book and series not to be missed. We are reunited with Kane, Alton and their teamvas well as FBI Special Agent and criminal profiler Jo Wells and Detective Ty Carter who are an interesting addition to the narrative. It's a chilling and thrilling race against the clock to identify and apprehend the killer before more lives are lost. There are twists, turns and misdirection aplenty and Hood masterfully leads you down the wrong path a number of times. It's exciting, action-packed and pacy from the very beginning and Hood shows her skill for penning tension-filled stories that keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. The perpetrator is expertly hidden from readers view for the majority of the book and I loved how well executed the plot twists actually were. This is not a tale for the faint-hearted as the murders are grisly and we get all the gory details. This is an intense, creepy and atmospheric read that ends in a dramatic and high stakes standoff. Many thanks to Bookouture for an ARC.

I spent my public holiday Monday in Black Rock Falls, in the middle of winter. Once again it was another book full of action and murder. This is book 9 in the series, with no signs of letting up. I always look forward to seeing what sadistic and twisted serial killer is on the loose this time. It seems to be a hotspot for murder and you would not get me there for anything.

Jenna Alton and David Kane are enjoying a break from chasing killers and enjoying the winter with a ski vacation, close to home. Coming down the slopes Kane spots something unusual in the trees. On closer look it appears to be frozen body parts... vacation over. The team is assembled and the investigation begins. But it doesn’t end there and the bodies start to pile up. While also contending with a stalker and being snowed in they have their hands full. FBI consultants Jo Wells and Carter are called and help remotely. As we have come to expect, it ends with a dramatic action scene.

Highly recommend this series, but you definitely need to start at the beginning. This book is creepy and atmospheric with the scene of the woods and heavy snowfall.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy of this book to read

Kane and Alton #9

Once again we are back in Black Rock Falls. Kane and Alton are on a skiing trip when Kane notices body parts hanging from the trees. This is only the start of the investigation into finding the serial killer behind the horrific murders of young girls. But it's winter in Black Rock Falls and the heavy snow is covering tracks and and any evidence that could have been left behind. David Kane has a stalker. He knows who,she is. She keeps bringing gifts to the sheriffs office. She just can't take the hint that he's not interested in her.

This series just gets better with each new book. All the main characters are back plus FBI Special Agent Jo Wells and Detective Ty Carter assist solving the murders. They are all racing against time to solve this case before anymore young girls are killed. There's plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing. But will you guess correctly? The suspense and tension build in this gripping page turner. The pace is fast from the beginning. This is a terrific police procedural series.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author D.K. Hood for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

D.K. Hood provides a gripping story from the opening pages. In a piece that is as strong as many others in the series, the author positions a depraved killer in the middle of small-town Montana, where Sheriff Jenna Alton and her team are ready to hunt them down. Body parts are hanging from tree limbs, like holiday decorations, but something is surely wrong as Sheriff Alton tries to keep the townsfolk calm. All the while, a killer has been capturing young women with tattoos and keeping them until their usefulness has waned, at which time they become the next piece of public art. With a chilling rush to find the killer and the captive women, Alton will have to pull out all the stops. Hood does a masterful job once more!

Laying in the dark, chilled to the bone and in pain, a young woman awaits her fate. When she hears footsteps above her, she can only hope that someone is here to help. However, once the cellar door creaks open, she knows that it is her captor, ready for another round of games.

While Black Rock Falls is gearing up for the winter season, the small Montana community has other things to draw its attention. Body parts are tied to trees, left dangling for all to see. A quick call to Sheriff Jenna Alton has her rushing to investigate, her team in tow.

While Sheriff Alton cannot stomach what she’s seeing, a gruesome piece of holiday public art, she is soon called away to another site of body parts, frozen solid. What is most baffling of all is that there are no reports of missing persons in the area. Has Black Rock Falls become the place some killer or killers have chosen to discard of the remains of murder victims?

When more bodies emerge, it becomes a macabre game of cat and mouse for Sheriff Alton, who is determined to get to the bottom of it. Meanwhile, in a secluded house, The Preacher has been collecting women who have unique tattoos on parts of their body. His interest is not sexual, but he is sure to treat the women in such a way that they will not challenge his authority. When they are done serving a purpose, these women will have a place outside, where countless others have been placed.

While trying to work the case with her lead deputy, Dave Kane, Sheriff Alton is confronted by a woman who takes offence to the closeness she shares with her second-in-command. As Kane wants no trouble, he chooses to back away from the woman, but things take a turn and the case at hand soon becomes secondary as Alton is placed in a precarious position. With a killer on the loose and a stalker in the shadows, Black Rock Falls is rife with issues and in need of the law. D.K. Hood does a splendid job with this piece.

D.K. Hood has not waned in her writing since I began these books not long ago. She present crisp mysteries that never seem to slow and provides wonderful perspectives through her detailed narratives. A strong foundation leads the reader throughout and there is little time to rest, as the action is high from one chapter to another. In a series that keeps getting better, D.K. Hood delves deep into the disturbing psyche of many a killer to present superior stories for all to enjoy.

Increased character development provides series fans with something about this they can talk, as Jenna Alton and Dave Kane continue to evolve. Their professional lives mesh well, though it is a personal angle that gets some time in the limelight during this piece, something many have been hoping for over the last number of books. I was eager to see this, even when some pitfalls introduced themselves into the middle of the story. I am eager to see how the author will foster the ongoing closeness of Alton and Kane, as well as many of the other characters whose secondary roles still have them actively supporting the series along the way.

There are some wonderfully developed plot lines in this story, many of which work to connect past issues with those in the present. Hood weaves quite a tale and offers enough twists that there is never a lack of suspense for the attentive reader, while also finding new ways to make Black Rock Falls home to an oddly plentiful group of serial killers. I am eager to see how things will keep progressing, as well as some of the new story arcs that are sure to emerge before long.

Kudos, Madam Hood, for keeping the spine tingles with each book you present.

The entire gang is back and delivering another suspense packed book. Set in a small remote town along with snow-covered mountains. Always a perfect place for a serial killer! DK Hood knows how to write and grab your attention from the very first page and not let go until you finish! Still wish Jenna and Kane would admit they love each other! Everyone sees it but them. LOL The ending you won’t see coming … Boom!

OH. My. Freaking. God.

I can't breathe. I just finished the book. And it is bloody brilliant.

Author D. K. Hood has written a fantastic thriller where I literally couldn't breathe at certain points. I had to remind myself that I needed oxygen too along with knowing the identity of the killer.

Jenna, Kane, and Wolfe were back and how!! Another lunatic had artived in Black Rock Falls and it was up to the Sheriff's Department along with Deputy Rowley to get to The Sculptor who was escalating with every kill.

What a book! I couldn't stop feeling the waves of thrill long after I finished reading it. The author had raised the stakes high with a Stalker and hints of romance. Every page brought the excitement close to the skin. I was almost flushed right through the read.

The characters had always been well etched. Ms. Hood always had been careful with her detailing. This one had some extra facets which added to mysticism of the characters. The plot was convoluted, the minds darkened beyond evil, every scene brought out the atmosphere of the black wintery skies where clues were few but the bodies were many.

Race against time was well felt, I sat on the edge of my seat to prod the team to rush to the killer. I could hear the dark whispers of the twisted mind in the chapters designated to the killer. I have loved all the books in the series. But this was extra special as it gave me the goosebumps along with waves of thrill.

A thriller-y police procedural. The best of what is out there in this genre.

A gripping crime thriller with my favourite Detectives, Kane and Alton.
It was good to be back in Blackwater Falls again but the killer is cold hearted and has a thing for freezing the bodies.
The first discovery of his work is whilst Jenna and Kane are ski-ing and Kane spots some body parts arranged in a tree.
It’s soon clear the two hands belong to two girls and then a head is discovered by passers by.
Jenna calls on Jo for her profiling skills and it turns out this killer is not a newbie and has been around a while.
There are some grim crime scenes in this book but it adds to the drama of needing to find the killer before they can strike again.
I love this series so much and highly recommend it.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

It's just another day ...or so .. in the life of Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane. The first body found is that of a woman ... she's frozen and she's hanging from a tree.

When Alton and Kane investigate, they find this is only the beginning. There are multiple burial sites nearby. Who are these women? There are no missing women reports ..so where have they come from? And how did they get here?

When Alton and Kane are thwarted time and time again, the killer seems to be able to stay two steps ahead of them. The killer might be closer than they think ... and that puts Alton in the cross hairs.

As with all the book in series, this is well written, suspense filled thriller. The action is non- stop and filled with twists and turns that swirl around the solidly drawn characters. Although 9th in the series, this is easily read as a stand alone, but I highly recommend starting at the beginning. The ongoing character development is superb and the crimes are riveting.

Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

The Kane & Alton series have become one my favorite series to read. D. K. Hood has the ability to create such action-packed & suspenseful books, that I always look forward to reading a book from this series. She creates the most depraved & vile murderers & lets them loose in Black Rock Falls. It's always fun to see how Kane & Jenna respond & see it through till the end. Her Shallow Grave was an exciting & compelling read that I finished in less than a day. I love just all the characters in this series - Jenna, Dave, Shane, Rowley. They make an interesting team. Since Jenna has just this small team at her disposal it's always interesting to see her work with them & the team dynamics. After 9 books I would have definitely loved to see Kane & Wolfe show some emotional & physical vulnerability making them human but they always seem to be at the top of their game - almost robotic. I love that they are smart & strong, but it sometimes feels almost TOO perfect.
I certainly love the plot in this one - gave me the creeps till the end. I kind of figured out who the killer was but that's maybe because I'm getting familiar with the writing style. However, this didn't make a big dent in the opinion I have about this book & series. I'm looking forward to the next book - I hope there's something about the impending event in there. I'm still a big fan of Kane & Alton & cant wait to see what they come up with next.

Thank You, NetGalley, Bookouture & D. K. Hood for an arc!

Her Shallow Grave by D.K. Hood is the 9th in the Detectives Kane and Alton series.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Series Background:   (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books)

Former DEA, Jenna Alton is now the Sheriff in Black Rock Falls, Montana.  Her past is a secret.  Deputy David Kane's background is also a secret.  He was a Special Forces sharpshooter.  Then there is Forensic Scientist Shane Wolfe, who is not only a Medical Examiner with amazing computer skills, he used to be Kane’s handler. So, with a few other deputies, Jenna has a good team to handle crime in the small Black Rock Falls town, which seems to have more murders than a small town should.

My Synopsis:   (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)

While on a skiing vacation just outside of town, Kane and Alton find frozen body parts from two different women hanging in a tree.  It is evident that they were placed there.  As more parts are found in a children's playground, fear of another serial killer in the area has them on high alert.  The heavy snowfall is helping to hide the tracks of the murderer, who seems to want to display his "art".

Although snowed in, FBI Profiler Jo Wells and her team are called, and provide information from afar.

Meanwhile, a stalker has Kane in her sights, but it may be Jenna who pays the price.

Kane is beginning to wonder if the town is cursed.

My Opinions:

I'm happy to see that the FBI team has been called back.  They seem to be a good fit for the series.  I also like the fact that Rowley seems to be getting more involved.  I particularly liked how the author respected his momentary lack of hardiness at one of the crime scenes.  I think it happens probably happens more often than not.

As always, the plot was good, and the action was non-stop.  Narrowing down the suspect pool still did not allow me to pick the right one, and that is always good.  I wish we knew what had happened to the other suspect.

Jenna is standing up as a leader more in each book, and did not seem to be diminished by Kane as much.  It's about time.

Anyway, it was good, and although it could be read as a stand-alone,  I think that knowing the characters backgrounds and relationships to one another is important.  So read them in order!

I'm looking forward to Number 10!

Her Shallow Grave is the ninth in the police procedural series featuring Detectives David Kane and Jenna Alton. I believe the author, D.K. Hood provided enough background for any new reader starting here to feel comfortable with the characters and setting. Set in Black Rock Falls, Montana, Sheriff Jenna Alton makes a very likeable detective although she is sometimes a little short on inspiration. However, Jenna has a good team to handle crime in the small town, which seems to have more than its fair share of murders. Her deputy, David Kane is a former Special Forces marksman with exceptional profiling skills.

This novel was an electrifying and solid police procedural and it was a well-balanced thriller that had me glued to the pages. I didn't want to put it down as I was desperate to know the outcome of the story. Even though Black Rock Falls was such a small place, Jenna and her team were still left with a lot of work to do in a very tangled web of mystery. This really was a spectacular crime-thriller that grabbed me hook, line and sinker. The team embarked on an exciting and exhilarating mission to find the perpetrator and all the time the tension snowballed as D.K. Hood launched at me some captivating misdirection and planted a few red herrings. The writing flowed effortlessly and swiftly as Her Shallow Grave delved into the topic of murder, both actual and attempted, with doses of stalking and harassment.

I will be seeking out the first five instalments of this masterful series. A brilliant, grisly, atmospheric and very highly recommended crime-thriller.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

I enjoyed this one.

Keep in mind that it's book 9 and, starting here, quite a bit was lost when it came to relationships in the book. However, I soon understood just enough to enjoy the characters.

The villain is truly chilling and I felt so sorry for the victims in this one. Such a horrid crime!

The book was a touch too long - the story ended quite a bit before the book actually did (fluff at the end) - but it was a good read and I'd read the author again!

Black Rock Falls is a popular winter ski town until someone decorates the trees along the Glacial Heights Ski Resort slope with body parts. Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane can't believe their eyes when they see the discolored frozen arms and legs. What makes it even more alarming is when the Medical Examiner decides they are from two different female bodies. When no one is reported missing, Jenna turns to the homeless shelter in town to find the identity of the missing women. Jenna is more determined to find the killer when macabre snow sculptures turn up in town to scare the locals and the tourists. Dave has his hands full when he stumbles upon a kidnapping in progress and saves a woman from her abductors. The victim is so grateful that she is convinced Dave loves her and begins to stalk him. Is there a serial killer in town or is someone passing through and dropping bodies? Is Dave's admirer fanciful or does she have a sinister purpose for showing up wherever he is? Time is running out for the next victim.
This is the 9th book in the series started in 2017. I have not read any of the other books and it doesn't seem necessary to enjoy this thriller. The plot is well-developed and creates a balance between the subplots within the story. The suspense builds when Jenna and Dave have a few suspects to consider, any one of them could have transported and stored frozen bodies. Gruesome and enthralling, a perfect escape from present day reality. Now I have to find time to read the first 8 books in the series. Reviewed at https://pennyformythoughts-nona.blogs...

I just love DK Hood and this entire series if you love crime fiction I totally recommend that you pick this series up from book one and enjoy . Jenna is a great Sheriff and her small town of Black Rock Falls along with a completely over qualified team including David Kane. With their town now the apparent serial killer's playground Jenna is shocked when they are called to the frozen dusmembered dead body of a young girl. The question is will this be the serial killer yo out wit them?

Seriously I am completely addicted to this series. I struggle to put the series down! The depth of the characters is great and yet we are still finding out more with every book. Plus I found the relationship progression between dave and jenna so sweet. Plus the side story in this book was great you have not just one case to follow as Kane finds an over friendly admirer.

So if you want a gripping intense and suspense filled crime fiction series this is the one. If you love Lisa Regan Carla Kovach, B.R Spangler or Dana Perry you will be hooked from book 1, plus there's 13!

Solita bella storia.

Her Shallow Grave is book 9 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series by D. K. Hood. Sheriff Alton and Deputy Kane were having a break at a local ski resort when they became involved in another murder case. Someone was displaying woman body parts around Black Rock Falls. With no one listing them as a missing person, Sheriff AltJon had to contact the local FBI and what they discovered was not what they expected. The readers of Her Shallow Grave will continue to follow Sheriff Alton and Deputy Kane to find out what happens.

Her Shallow Grave is another fantastic addition to this excellent series by D. K. Hood. I enjoy the way D. K. Hood incorporates different plots throughout her stories. I love D. K. Hood's portrayal of her characters and their interaction with each other throughout this book. Her Shallow Grave is well-written and researched by D. K. Hood. I like D. K. Hood's description of the settings of Her Shallow Grave, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.

Her Shallow Grave's readers will learn how law enforcement can help each other during a murder investigation. Also, the readers of Her Shallow Grave will know about the problem of people with someone's fixation on them.

I recommend this book.

I've been through a lot with Deputy Dave Kane and Sheriff Jenna Alton. This is the 9th in a long-running crime thriller series.

Black Rock Falls in the winter is a particularly cruel, cold place and this season the pair has their hands full as they track a serial killer who likes to display his frozen victims in a sort of tableau. The villain, known as either The Sculptor or The Preacher, is a nasty psycho as evidenced by the way he dismembers the female bodies with a chainsaw. There's clues that indicate that he has been a very busy man across several states and that he may even keep the unfortunate souls for extremely long periods of time. Along with the other long-time members of their team, and with the help of FBI consultants, Kane and Alton have their work cut out for them. And, as always, Jenna is in peril and Kane usually saves the day. NO SPOILERS.

Typical of the genre, the story arc hits all the right notes with plenty of grisly detail. After awhile, I suppose it's difficult to come up with new, heinous killers and different methods. I guess I'm surprised at how many psychopaths a small town like Black Rock Falls can possibly hold or host. Effort is made to create an atmosphere with the snow and low temps. I must say that I'm getting tired of the sexual tension (low level as it is) and the lack of consummation of the romance. Always surprised by the fact that Jenna's the boss though she can't do anything but put herself in danger and need rescuing from Kane in every book. Onward. The thrill is starting to fade a bit so the series needs a bit of a recharge if it is meant to continue.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-book ARC to read and review.

Another brilliant Kane and Alton story, I read this straight after “Her Broken Wings“ and was genuinely gutted when I’d finished them both, the characters feel just like old friends.
This book sees the gruesome discovery of some body parts pinned to a tree in the snow and ice in the mountains, imitating “art” It turns out there is more than one body and each girl was frozen, at different times. Jenna suspects this is the work of The Sculptor who committed similar murders and they call in the help of Jo Wells and Ty Carter for their expertise in reading the killer.
The body count grows and we also see life from the victims’ perspective, from when they are lured to the home of the man they call Preacher to when he murders them.
The team find a pattern, all the girls have dark hair and tattoos, and all are homeless so not missed by anyone.
Can they stop The Sculptor? Will Ava escape Preacher’s clutches before she becomes the next victim?
Weaving through the murder case is the story of Jenna and Kane’s budding relationship, and the jealousy Jenna feels when Kim Strickland, a nurse that Kane saves from a drugs den, attached herself to him, with disastrous consequences.
Hope it’s not long until the next one!

Sheriff Jenna Alton and her partner Deputy David Kane take on a new serial killer who is terrorizing Black Rock Falls in this, the latest entry into the Alton and Kane series. They may have just the most deranged killer yet on their hands.

Someone is murdering young women and after dismembering them leaving the body parts around the town in arranged positions. He leaves no clues; no forensic evidence. The pathologist, Dr. Shane Wolfe, figures they were frozen prior to being dismembered with a chainsaw.

The story is interspersed with little asides from both the killer and the captive's point of view.

Jenna and Kane ask local FBI Agents Jo Wells and her partner Ty Carter for assistance. Added to this is the fact that Kane has a stalker. When she is thwarted by Kane, the stalker sets their sights on Jenna – with dire consequences.

The investigation is intensive and they have some viable suspects. But, which one is it?

In an exciting standoff involving the suspect and a woman who managed to escape, the killer is both identified and finally subdued.

This is a very well written and plotted novel. The transitions are flawless and the story is very interesting and engaging. Ms. Hood does a remarkable job in describing the bitterly cold weather that has hit the area and all the attendant issues that arise out of such weather. I felt cold just reading it. I like Jenna and Kane and the rest of the gang. I like how they all work together so well and seem to be good friends as well as colleagues.

I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for forwarding to me a copy of this very fine book for me to read, enjoy and review.

For the 9th time already, Kane and Alton and their brilliant team outsmart a very disturbed psychopath in a very snow covered and freezing Black Rock Falls. Each and everyone of them thought they were clever enough to stay one step ahead of these great officers, but they all had to acknowledge the superiority of the determined officers.

What can I say that I have not said in previous reviews about this author? Nothing really. I keep repeating myself: great, disgusting baddies, wonderful good guys (and girls ;)), captivating story, great writing style. To make a long story short: I wanted the whole shebang and the author delivered!

Even though it was very warm outside where I sat reading in the sun, the author has a way to make everything feel so real, that I was tempted to put on a sweater too. 🙂

‘My’ queen of suspense can add another jewel to her crown. 5 stars.

Thank you, D.K. Hood and Bookouture

So it has been a nice sunny day and I cracked open this beauty of a book and I am lapping up the rays but nope I do not feel the sun, no soiree, I am cold, I am chilled the bone. It’s snowing in Black Rock Falls and this time we have the coldest, chilling, gruesome killer to date and it made my blood run cold.

“The Sculptor” is pathing the way for brutal and well grim murders! He shapes the women in a way to cause shock and what he thinks is a delight. He has a type and the problem I have is I fit his profile, and when a character shares my name and looks like me, well then I frankly have an issue and (repeating myself) I was chilled to the bone.

Adding the snow as its own entity in this book adds to the chill, literally. The isolation of Stanton Forest, the snapping of the branches, the silence, the snow hiding all evidence of the perp. Dare I say it again…chilling!

This is way darker than any of its predecessors, Ms Hood tries to create empathy for the killer but I am sorry I was way too far gone. There was no hope from my corner. No, nothing, nada. Jenna and Kane have most definitely got their work cut out for them. I had my heart in my throat, in the last part of the story and with what I thought was an epic showdown did leave me with a lot of nervous energy as I feared what the outcome would be!

However, with one case on the go that is not enough for the team, this time Kane has a little stalker, except she is not so little and she is out for blood. My emotions have been played with way too much in this book, with a potentially ballsy move but thank god we did not go down that route. The outrage, I was ready to scream at the book but it was fine! All is fine, no outrage here.

Despite all this darkness, we do have some light, some little bit of interplay which did have me squealing like a teenager at delight!! Although a bit like the characters my head was spinning with confusion, what does this now mean!!!!!!

It was fab having the team back together, and having Jo and Ty back with the intro of their new team player Kalo. But do you know what was even better than this, I mean what could be better, but there is something……Walters!! We heard from Walters again, I mean it was a small part, a conversation but he was back and I did a little happy dance to see him help the team out again!

Well played Ms Hood, you have unsettled me on a nice hot sunny day. You have created one sadistic MOFO, whose kicks are grim. I am just glad that at the start of the book before hell broke loose, Jenna and Kane got the skiing trip they have been wanting for a LONG time!!! Already counting the days down until Book 10!

This is the ninth book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series by D.K.. Hood.

When Jenna, Kane and Wolfe go on a ski weekend, they discover a dead body on the slopes nailed to a tree. They have uncovered yet another serial killer in their neck of the woods.

This book was great. They didn’t just track the Sculptor/Preacher but there was a nasty gal who fixated on Kane and tried to kill Jenna. These stories just keep getting better and better. And I am hooked.

I think Jenna is finally coming around to the idea that she has feelings for Kane and it shows in this book a lot. In previous books, I kind of wondered about her relationship with Wolfe but here it seems to be clearly stated that they are just like brother and sister. Love the whole dynamic of this cast. It just keeps me coming back for more.

If you love a good police procedural, detective fiction or crime thriller, definitely check this one out.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

You are back in Black Rock and there is another serial killer, you are taken first through the mind of the woman trying to get away, then to the man that is killing. While that is happening Jenna, and Kane who were taking time skiing come across a woman in need and you get to see Kane in full action. Afterward what is left adds another part to the story and to their ongoing relationship.
You of course have Wolfe and his daughter and also the deputy and other people that were in the other books. Here though you are taken through the eyes of the victims and when they are taken and through their ordeal being held captive which adds to the story. Add in the weather with it being winter and the snow not letting which adds to their frustration in finding any clues, but helping the person doing the crimes. This is just another good book in the series. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 5 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

Finally west I’ve waited impatiently for! Another woman moves in on Kane and Jenna is jealous!
Kane still moves as slow as molasses toward a relationship with Jenna but there is one scene where he loses it in a very unlike Kane way. That thrilled me not only because of his raw power but because of his feelings for Jenna.
At the beginning of the book there’s a scene where Kane takes on 6 guys and of course is the victor, demonstrating his progress.
The murders are absolutely sordid and sick and enthralling!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. The addition of the 2new characters has added some dimension to an already good series. My only negative is the relationship between Jenna and Kane is moving a little slow for me. Would like to see it move forward.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this amazing story

book 9 in the series with detectives kane and alton and its a doozy of a book

murdered victims displayed as pieces of art during the blizzard
missing runaways
stalking and harassment, poor kane comes in for some unwanted attention which could have dire effects to jenna

but most of all the team is back together working their cases and with the snow falling hampering their investigation its all hands on deck as this killer is just warming up

brilliant book in this series cant rate this author high enough, this book keeps you hooked and you just have to finish it to find out what happens next...there is so much going on that it keeps you gripped right to the end

cant wait for the next book in this series
