For the third consecutive year, Lynne Graham's been the author whose new novel is the one that starts my new reading year. I have no idea if it's a marketing strategy at Harlequin, but if it is, then it's a good one because there should always be an LG novel each January.

In this marriage of convenience trope, LG pairs two MC's who have a lot of common:

📍 Both have mommy issues and both make huge sacrifices for those ladies, who hadn't actually done much to make their offsprings' lives easier. However, while the H's mother is a living, neurotic mess, the heroine's mom has recently died in childbirth.

📍Both have been unlucky in love, after being on the receiving end of betrayal.

📍Both are sensitive souls - even though the Beta H tries his best to act like an unfeeling tough guy alpha.

📍 Both feel intense mutual insta-lust the first time they meet.

This is the H, Jude:

He was very tall at six foot five, lean and muscular with the physique of an athlete. He cropped his riot of black curls short. Flaring ebony brows framed shrewd dark eyes set below lashes long and lush enough to make the average woman weep in envy. A beautiful child, he had grown into an even more beautiful man. Lean, sculpted features, sheathed in olive skin and worthy of a Greek god, completed the vision of a male who turned female heads wherever he went.

This is the heroine, Tansy:

She was a beauty and a surprisingly unusual one, distinctly different from the common herd.

Lynne Graham has a talent for creating OTT
deadbeat relatives for her MC's. In this novel, both MC's are saddled with selfish, manipulative and ( in the specific case of the heroine's stepdad Calvin) parasitic bottom feeders for relatives.

It's an eye rolling trial for the reader to tolerate these minor characters, but sometimes it's a necessary requirement if an author seeks to pull off an outlandish version of the marriage of convenience trope in modern HPlandia. This trope is only believable if the author can establish that the MC's really had no other option. It's also very entertaining, trying to anticipate just how awful these deadbeats can be.

Jude, the H, needs to marry before his 30th birthday so that his mother wouldn't lose her home. He's more than able to buy her a mansion in another location. But, as I've mentioned previously, the lady, who is slightly neurotic and a bit of an agoraphobe, refuses to live anywhere else.

His paternal grandfather, who owns this property, uses the situation to coerce the H into marriage. The H had already agreed to a marriage of convenience with Althea, his former girlfriend, but this falls through at the beginning of the story when the OW decides to call it off.

The OW's reasons seem benign and logical enough, but this is HPlandia, so I immediately suspected that there was a lot more going on, because it's unheard of for an OW to behave in such a selfless manner...

I was right to be sceptical about the OW, because it's revealed, later on, that she'd hoped the H would declare his love for her and tell her that the arrangement would be a permanent one. It's hilarious, to me, how the OW's plan had failed. She'd obviously hoped that the H would realize that he loved her and would beg her for a second chance.

In reality, the H simply told her he'd be looking for another candidate and she ended up humiliating herself at the MC's wedding reception...

However, the OW's failed plan, swerves the plot in a new direction, when the H refuses to grovel and Calvin ( the heroine's money grubbing stepdad ) sets up a meeting between the MC's. Calvin's a lawyer for one of the legal firms employed by the H. He's also thoroughly self serving and needs a huge injection of cash to avoid bankruptcy.

The heroine, who's been forced to leave college to care for her baby sister Posy, has no choice but to accept because it's the only way her stepdad will even consider relinquishing his parental rights to the toddler.

This is the heroine's sister, Posy:

The first six chapters are focused primarily on the marriage of convenience arrangements and while it's obvious that the MC's are wildly attracted to each other, the actual romance doesn't begin until the wedding is over.

There is some minimal angst provided by the H's initial misconception about Posy being the heroine's daughter, but, unlike the case in vintage HPlandia, the author doesn't allow that conflict to drag on interminably. Much of the ensuing drama ( if one can even refer to it as such ) builds on the MC's evolving feelings for each other.

It's obvious that the MC's are falling in love along the same timeline. The H is certainly besotted with the heroine and even enjoys being a father figure to adorable little Posy. But it would've been preferable if the author had *shown* it, via her prose, rather than just by the use of sexual chemistry and the MC's own dialogue and inner thoughts...

Too often, in modern HPlandia, authors refrain from letting the prose itself do the storytelling. Romance is often more beautiful and emotive when an author's simple exposition/description of a hero's body language and facial expressions, tell the reader what he's feeling. It makes the eventual payoff ( i.e. the the final love revelation ) so much more meaningful and special because the reader has been waiting with bated breath for it.

It's a tactic used often by vintage authors and even Lynne G herself, in her earlier books. One example that comes to mind, is Jessica Steele. Her heroes were always stingy with their thoughts and almost never gave any verbal indication that they cared for the heroine, until the very end when all the love declarations come pouring out.

But the reader always knew that JS's heroes were besotted because of the way they'd behave, their body language, facial expressions, like the merest lift of an eyebrow, frosty glare or the tightening of their lips if they see their heroines on a date with an OM etc. Others, like the late great Charlotte Lamb, used the *jealous, possessive alpha male H* as a main tool for passionate storytelling.

Nevertheless, it was a lovely, romantic novel and I was glad I chose LG to kick off my 2021 reading calendar. There's not much angst between the MC's themselves, but there's more than enough drama provided by their relatives and the inclusion of the toddler was a definite plus.

It's also nice to read about a H who's absolutely turned off by infidelity and has a lot of respect for women.

The mere fact that he loves and understands his mother so much, despite all her neuroses and selfishness, says a lot about his own character and integrity. Jude is certainly different and a lot more forgiving than LG's vintage hotties. I suppose it's a part of her evolution as an author, that LG deems it necessary for her heroes to evolve as well.

It's an interesting change but I have yet to decide whether that's good or bad 😉😅.

Another pleasant development, was the fact that Calvin, the villainous stepdad, got his comeuppance: a prison sentence for fraud/embezzlement.

And the MC's ended up adopting Posy, who turns out to be a wonderful big *sister aunt* to their own son, as seen in the epilogue.

Safety: No OM, a former OW, no separation and no cheating. The former OW does throw herself at the H on his wedding day, but he shuts her down.

This is now my favorite book of 2021! A super read.

Oh my gosh!! I loved this book. This is one of the best I have read this year. I highly recommend this.

Safe book. Virgin heroine. Hero has been around the block multiple times and was raised in a very liberal home.

No cheating. There was a wanna be OW, who was an ex of the hero's (been broken up for nine years. She had cheated on him.) but the hero had no interest.

Edit: As we are now into Sept 2022 this continues to be my favorite. I read it at least once a month and truly love this book. The hero and heroine are super and I loved them both.

Another out of the park home run

Two nights. Two HPs. And both of them excellent. I kept pinching myself to make sure it wasn't a dream! But no it was another Lynne Graham book with an excellent hero and a strong heroine. I loved it. They marry because his Grandfather had threatened to evict his mother of he wasn't married by 30. He was going to marry an ex girlfriend but she backed out so I'm comes out sweet little heroine who's stepfather worked for the hero's legal team. Her mother had died in childbirth and she was taking care of the little girl. There's a lot that goes on because of this and I just don't want to spoil too much. It was really good. The hero pushes it a couple of times but had died redeem himself. I just loved how much he loved her. And how much she loved him. Just a great read for me. And an epilogue that makes uninstall the feels. I loved everything about it.

What’s going on?
How come the H and h CAN communicate? 😳
Did I really read Harlequin Present? 🤔
How come we’ve got a lovely jubbly hero and sweet but have a spine heroine like this? 😍
Little bit more sweetness, I would become diabetic! 😂🤣

Oh, darling heroine smacked down OW without the hero’s help!
How about that? 😜😂

But, I don’t care. 😜
The story probably is not memorable enough but is nice to read something sweet like this within Hplandia! 😘

Not exactly 4 stars because the corny title still on! 🥴

4.5 stars....
Typical LG romance that was low on the angst with some good sexual chemistry. The hero and heroine were upfront with each other and any false hoods were quickly cleared up,they were the perfect compliment.
The hero had parental and first love of ow issues...a handsome Greek billionaire who had a love of ripped jeans and a ripped body.
The heroine had a cad for a stepfather who is willing to sell his daughter and stepdaughter...her deceased mother was a beauty shop owner who over indulged in her products and married the cad who is 10 years her junior and died after birthing her youngest daughter.Mommy and step daddy issues galore. She also had a burned love life thanks to her so called bestie and boyfriend.
This romance had one of my favorite tropes..moc with benefits, there was also a cutie pie baby who won over the hero.
Enjoyable read with great epilogue.

I would say the H was raised by wolves, but that’s an insult to wolves. As the result of an adulterous father, an uncaring mother who shows her contempt for her son by trying to commit suicide knowing her son will find her, and a manipulative old coot for a grandfather the hero has decided to be completely faithful and considerate in his relationships with women. What! Next thing you’ll be telling me the heroine has had other lovers! Nope, still a virgin and equally shocking not dyslexic.

Tansy does have a half-plot moppet sister called Posy. The names Tansy and Posy make up for the h not being dyslexic or incredibly scatty.

MOC that helps out everybody, this is kind of Lynne Graham lite, but no less enjoyable. A more stupid than evil OW gets a mild comeuppance from the heroine and we have a HEA. The H is another 6’ 5” hero who handles what toxic relatives he has left with long-suffering patience and falls for Tansy like a ton of bricks.

Sweet, marriage of convenience story.

The hero was almost too good to be true - he was staunchly pro-fidelity and had infinite patience for his mentally ill mother who cared more about her garden than him. Heroine was a typical Lynne Graham heroine -sweet, virginial and warm. They make a good couple.

"The Greek's Convenient Cinderella" is the story of Tansy and Jude.

A very enjoyable read with extremely likable characters. Heroine is coerced to marry the hero in order to save her baby half siblings life. He is in need of a convenient bride. Their not so conventional marriage takes a turn, when the hero realizes her true intentions behind marrying him, and she finds out why he entered the arrangement too. They have hot sex, loads of feelings get involved, there's some jealousy but everyone is honest, upfront and VERY endearing, and the book ends in a feel good HEA.

I really, really loved this and it was a great way to break my reading lull! A great read.

Finally a 4 ⭐️ book in a long time. The story was fresh and I was excited to see how it would play. Thankfully LG steered away from predictable plot deviations like kidnapping/ a mini separation. The mcs were mature and seemed to operate very close to how a couple would in real life.

Tansy is looking after her baby sister after her mother passes away. Her step dad is barely in his 30’s and doesn’t want to shoulder being a parent. Jude is an alpha Greek and needs to marry for inheritance and to get his clingy, intrusive relatives off his back who keep pestering him on when he’d marry. There is a prospective bride but that ship had already sailed for Jude.

Tansy’s step dad works for Jude and thinks of this brilliant scheming idea to get Tansy and the little kid off his back by arranging a MoC between Tansy and Jude.

What plays out is a sweet couple who are trying their best to react in a sensible way to this outrageous decision. I loved how Jude really does treat Tansy like he doesn’t know her and Tansy is shy and reluctant like you would expect from someone in that situation. And the best part, Tansy isn’t a pushover. She acts her age and speaks up when needed. I loved how she’d often put Jude in his place and tell him to stop whining when he’s clearly spoilt and celebrated in his family.

The little sister Posy was adorable and so was the epilogue. So happy to see LG pick up to her usual standard.

LG is by no means a favourite author, but I enjoyed this one much more than some of her other novels - primarily because both the hero Jude, and heroine Tansy, were credible and my interest was engaged immediately; and the story was so deliciously realised that I finished with a smile on my face.

I am never keen on the utterly rotten relatives that LG gives her heroines. Here, Calvin, the evil stepfather who was prepared to virtually sell his baby daughter Posy (Tansy’s half sister), if Tansy went along with the pretence - was the usual one-dimensional jerk without a single redeeming feature.

The mutual attraction between Jude and Tansy was obvious from the onset and the development of their love story was done really well.

Finally, a LG book that I really liked! Great MOC story with two interesting MCs. This story also had quite a few awful secondary characters. The OW drama is not something you see too much of in newer HPs. This book ticked alot of the boxes that has made LG a HP legend, so well done to her!

4 stars. This was an enjoyable HP story. I found it to be fairly sweet, without unneeded angst. I really liked both the hero and heroine, even though the heroine acted TSTL at the beginning when she let her step father coerce her into marrying a stranger. The hero is the typical brute alpha male that can be expected from genre, but he didn’t take that role too far. Overall, he treated the heroine pretty well, even when he was very angry at her.

Safe; heroine was a virgin. Some OW drama, but it is settled pretty quickly.

What was I thinking? Revisiting my teen years, when I gorged on Harlequin romances?

Suffice it to say, this formulaic, flat CR was much worse than I had anticipated. Two-dimensional, clichéd characters and an unconvincing, too-pat resolution at the end. I should have known.
Coupled with a ridiculous plot (if she was so devoted to her little sister, why did she spend hardly any time with her?) this was really written on auto-pilot.

Mellow, low angst, MOC romance with a sexy MMC, sweet but assertive FMC, and an adorable baby

Virginal, beautiful, 22-year-old Tansy Browne agrees to a marriage of convenience with 29-year-old, handsome, Greek billionaire, Jude Alexandris, in order to convince her selfish stepfather to grant her custody of her infant half-sister, Posy. Tansy's 47-year-old mother died in childbirth, and Tansy has cared for her sister since Posy's birth. There is nothing she would not do to insure her beloved sister is safe and happy. Which definitely won't happen if Posy is left to the care of her callously indifferent father. He keeps dumping the baby on his flaky, 20-something girlfriend, who is so neglectful of Posy, she could end up causing the baby irreparable harm.

Jude's reason for an MOC is that his paternal grandfather has basically blackmailed him into marrying. If Jude does not tie the knot before his imminent 30th birthday, his grandfather has threatened to sell a mansion with elaborate gardens that Jude's neurotic mother created over many years and is enormously attached to.

I can always count on intense emotional and sexual chemistry between the FMC and MMC in an LG novel, which is definitely the case in this terrific story. One of my favorite romance tropes is when the FMC is raising the orphaned baby of a close relation. Posy is definitely an adorable addition to this novel. Whenever a romance author desires to make an otherwise cynical MMC, such as Jude, more sympathetic, nothing does the trick faster than his showing tenderness for a rescue dog or an orphaned baby. (This is actually one of the few books LG has written in which there is not a lovably quirky rescue dog included. Maybe she thought a dog would be cuteness overload, since she was already including a baby.)

One of my pet peeves with the vast majority of romance novels is that the MMC and FMC have unearned, gorgeous bodies. Not so in this novel. LG took the time to do the simple task of inserting a couple of sentences that motivate their fabulous physiques. Jude works out every day in his private gym, and Tansy works out beside him as well as being passionate about running for fitness.

I own this novel in both the Kindle version and the WhisperSync Audible recording. The narration is well done. Today is my third reading of this novel and I am sure I will read it again multiple times in the future.

That was a very pleasant read, must admit.

I only wished we could see the hero growing more and more attached and affectionate with the heroine throughout the story instead of waiting till the very end only to realize that in the last chapter that he loved her.

In a 'marriage of convenience' trope I like watching the characters fall for each other and turn that fake relationship into sth swoonworthy throughout the story.
Because watching that internal change is what I live for.
I want to be there to witness every step they take along the way.

And despite the fact that these two were cute as hell together, it didn't have that.
And I blame the fact that they jumped to bed too quickly.

But all in all, that was a very pleasant read.
Plus, a hero who is all game when it comes to fidelity?
Hell yeah!
That's gotta be a first, must admit.
But I loved it!

buku ini tntg Jude, cucu konglo keluarga Alexandris, yg diminta untuk menikah sblm umurnya 30 tahun. berpacu dng waktu, Jude bikin nikah kontrak sama temen kecilnya. nah masalahnya, seminggu sblm hari H si cewek batalin perjanjian mereka. nah loh 😂 emang bisa seminggu dapet "aktris" penggantinya?

adalah Tansy, anak tiri dari pengacara Jude. Tansy "dipaksa" ayah tirinya buat nikah dng Jude dng perjanjian yg berisi: kalau Tansy mau jadi partner nikah kontrak Jude, Tansy bakal dapet hak asuh adiknya. ga ada hal lain yg diingini Tansy selain adiknya, meski itu s3ggs dalam pernikahan palsu sekalipun.

pernah denger "tresno jalaran soko kulino" gak?

The Greek's Convenient Cinderella by Lynne Graham

Enjoyable and quick read with a fantastic heroine in Tansy. She really spoke how she felt and no muck around with what she thinks and then she will finally say a chapter later – nope she was out and honest and said it how she saw it and I really enjoyed her character.

This marriage of convenience took place because of requirements Jude has to fulfil to save his Mother and he thinks the money he’s paying Tansy is her reason but the real reason throws him into a huge spin and page after page Tansy is finding her way and shining brightly despite her exceptionally challenging circumstances. I enjoyed Tansy slowly turning Jude from an emotionless brick wall the guy on the front cover and the redeemed hero in the Epilogue.

The Greek’s Convenient Cinderella is a hard one to describe – a Harlequin Presents plotline with the feel of Harlequin Romance. So, if you love the tense angsty storylines that feels a bit lighter; this may just be your cup of tea. As per most Lynne Graham books, there’s the awful ex to contend with, the awful blackmailing relatives and the family driven drama. Really enjoyable, thank you Lynne Graham.

I loved this story.
It was short and sweet with just the right amount of distress aka climax.
What's very important in these harlequin types of books is that the Hero was not a tyrant and the heroine was not a doormat; she had a backbone.
Very, very crucial.
Otherwise, it's a dealbreaker.
The story was very cute. Beautiful heroine was forced to marry a handsome, rich Hero to save her baby sister. There was some misunderstandings; Hero thought she was a liar (she initially told him she was a virgin) as he thought the baby was her daughter, instead of her sister.
There wasn't too many antagonist characters; just the heroine's stepdad, the ow and the Hero's mom.
If you're looking for some feel - good harlequin stories that are minus the alpha 'push over' heroes and spineless heroines, Ms. Graham is your go to author. She doesn't make her heroine weak. I love that about her books. This was my fourth harlequin books by the author that I'd read this week. Loving them.

3.5 stars. Very straightforward marriage of convenience book.

I was temporarily impressed when the female main character in the beginning thinks to herself “keep your emotions separate!? Yeah right. This guy doesn’t know anything.“ And then later on in the book, she’s the one that is saying “I’m gonna keep my emotions separate“. It drove me crazy. I feel like there was an editing error there that dumbed her down.

I enjoyed it. No big issues. Very brief concern that he’s cheating but it gets cleared up right away. And I hate that she kept her sister a secret but she is young in this book. Thankfully, we don’t have to get a drawn out drama with that situation.

This dude definitely treats her like a child and doesn’t act like a partner.

But overall, it was enjoyable and I’m always thankful for a Hoopla audiobook.

4 stars. Loved this. I’ve heard so much about Lynne Graham and I think this was a great book to get myself acquainted with her writing style. The story was great. It’s a marriage of convenience with a prickly hero and a headstrong and passionate heroine. I enjoyed both of them.

Tansy and Jude had such great chemistry and I loved how their relationship developed. The fact that Jude who was so tough and hard hearted was the first to say “I love you” was everything! It was perfect. The ending was great and the epilogue was so cute. I really had so much fun with this book and I definitely will be checking out more of this author’s work.

Great

I found this a really good book. Tansy is an amazing character. She is so strong and stands up for what she wants. She doesn't take any nonsense from anyone who tries to put her down and gets what she deserves from the story.
