Chinese title: 劣情PARADOX——看門犬於夜露出獠牙
Japanese title: 劣情PARADOX―番犬は夜、牙をむく
Rating: 4.5
Silva sensei’s drawing of the human body is definitely one of the best in the Yaoi world, the amount of muscles is just right, healthy and toned, not too buff and not too lean. Sensei would also conduct thorough research and study for the stories and characters, very rare in today’s general fast food manga market. Although the sensei’s works are always hot and steamy, they either involve thought-provoking topics or go towards light-hearted comedy direction.
The storyline is well written and has depth, the main characters each have their own hidden intention at the beginning so their relationship development is quite interesting to watch. It’s kind of a love triangle (crush vs. substitute) involving political power, family ties, and detective elements, at the end of the day it’s actually about human nature and true love.
I don’t understand why the rating of this manga is so low? I compared the English scanlation (?) online to the Renta digital publication in Chinese and have to say the quality of English translation is a bit poor and the dialogues are kind of shallow…
The seme 桐⾕ 星児 is a private detective who got assigned a case by his lady boss and told him to cut his hair short and perm it. He’s tasked to investigate into the uke and his relationship with the senator he’s working for, are they lovers or related in other ways?
The uke ⽮野 博⼰ (29) is the second secretary of a senator 藤原議員. His day job is very tense and tiring so he let himself loose at night by picking up guys at the gay bar Splash in Azabu. He grew up with his single-parent mom and doesn’t know who’s his real dad.
The uke has crush on 增田 喜明 (34), the first secretary of another senator 白石議員. This guy is a scumbag who’s married but sleeping with his boss’ wife in order to climb up the career ladder, he’s also flirting with the uke just to use him. He actually wants to drag down both senators and the uke in order to get ahead.
The seme approached the uke in the bar to investigate the target as requested by client. At first the uke was only attracted to seme’s appearance because he looks like the uke’s crush. The more they interact the more they learn about the different sides of each other, not just through physical relationships but also via intellectual conversations and sophisticated hobbies. The uke reveals his fragile and vulnerable personality, he becomes attached to the seme and doesn’t want to play with other guys anymore.
The seme’s cover identity is first grade architect at Infinity Construction, and found uke’s childhood photo taken at 村下政治塾 when he’s playing chess with the famous 村下清十郎, who’s using the signature technique called 初手天元. Both senators 藤原議員 and 白石議員 stayed here and were close peers in their youth.
Later the seme discovered that uke’s crush is the one who requested the investigation on the uke and his relationship with his boss 藤原議員, whether they are having affairs.
The uke suspects that someone is spying on him and may be monitoring his conversations, he’s uncertain if it’s his crush. At this point, the seme has already gained his trust but uke still cannot give him his phone number.
The uke asked the seme to help investigate if his boss 藤原議員 is in fact his birth father, who had an affair with the teacher 村下清十郎’s wife. No wonder the teacher got angry and kicked them two out of the house, the senator guided uke’s career and took him in under his wing out of guilt.
After confirming the truth, the uke secretly tipped the insider info to his crush who of course will have it published in the news soon. The uke went to see his dad to confront him, the mom and dad were truly in love but didn’t get remarried because they didn’t want the affair to be publicized and ruin the dad’s career.
At the final showdown, the seme secretly spied on the uke’s confrontation with his crush. The uke ripped off the pretentious mask of the crush, and chose the seme in front of him. The uke warned his crush to stop his dirty tricks and trying to sabotage other people’s reputation for his own career.
The two main characters have cleared their secrets and tied up their past. After the uke leave his politician career he will join the seme as a private investigator, a happy ending for both.

Not bad, it was interesting and the MCs were a strange but good couple.

Seiji is a private investigator and Hiroki is his next target. Hiroki is the secretary of a powerful politician who hold special information Seiji needs. READ ON RENTA
This went a lot more in depth politically than I was expecting. I was veryyy confused in the beginning portion. I went into this mostly blind as I usually do so I didn't have the establishing background info I needed and the story goes right into within the first couple of panels. It was pretty interesting once I understood what was happening. I was definitely expecting this to be more shallow and focused on the sex, but it went into Hiroki's past and there was a lot of planning. I mean this isn't the best written thing I've read and some parts were really cheesy/cringey, but it was definitely a surprise. I do feel like the relationship could've been better established. I feel like we don't really get to know Seiji that well despite the story being told mostly in his perspective.
This was fine. I liked it in the moment, but definitely not the best.

Storia carina, disegni ben fatti: non c'è molto in più da dire su Paradox, a mio dire. La trama scorre molto veloce, come è quasi norma per uno yaoi autoconclusivo.

A mature BL read. Glad there wasn't any unwanted drama. To bad it's a short read!
