lots of filler

This box set started well. Set in the KG universe, so there are some cross over characters that are in other series but overall new main characters. The world building was ok, mostly just details on the new celestial bodies, their inhabitants and a vague mythology. The MC is quirky but the secondary characters are not as developed. Some characters (not the mains in other series) just get left out of volumes then return if convenient for a minor plot issue. Plot points also get dropped. By the 10th book of this set I did not care what was happening with the story or characters. I was about 1700 pages in so I did finish just to see how the last book would conclude in relation to the main KG series final book.

Couldn't keep me awake

I read at the end of the day to go to sleep. This book worked well at that, and that's why it's taken so long to finish. Admittedly, it is a long series consisting of almost three thousand pages. We start with some bubble headed female enlisted that figures out just before it's too late that she's got a hitch hiker in her personal communication device. She's overslept, and was dashing to a conference with a senior officer when the realization hits her that there's too much memory being used on her personal device, and it must be related to the super secret projects being conducted at the base. She decides to skip the conference. She's right. An AI experiment has jumped out of the experiment and into her device and her brain interconnect to lodge itself in her body as a symbiote. She decides to quit in order to help the AI to escape. In order to escape, she declares herself as a sexual deviant to get discharged. Some how, she grows up to take over a team of mercenaries where she displays her alleged tactical strength along with her AI now known as Oz. She starts developing psychic powers, but stops using it. For instance she knows how to find people, but doesn't use that skill to find a team member. She discovers a secret base, and starts running missions for the federation using some fantastic ships and weaponry discovered at the base. There are sub luminary ships, luminary ships, and a couple of super luminary ships that accomplish this by "jumping". She gets invoked in two battle scenes that invoke her luminary ships, but fails to realize that inertia at luminary speeds will kill you. Usually writers simply indicate their is an inertia canceling method involved inside the ship, but not this author, she suddenly gets concerned about reducing turns to lessen the inertia. Bad move. She also has rockets chasing her luminary ships (or not) to shoot them down. She falls to realize that the rockets are at a disadvantage because of their lack of maneuverability. To get to the ground, all she had to do is dodge once and go because the rockets aren't going to turn around and catch up. She meets up with an archeologist who has a theory that there is a super race of AR's that planted humanoid races through out the two galaxies. In the meantime, she's found a fidgety teenager whose psychic abilities are great, but without explanation, this teenage disappears without having done anything for at least two books. Milly, our heroine, has issues with her mother, (a spy), he father (a field operative), and various hangers on that she's recruited. She's trying to create a college, but she's bucking a hidden organization that's against it. In the meantime one of her boyfriends runs off to get married. The psychic teenager suddenly comes on the scene being declared a transmitter to the AR's. So we have an adventure in which she has to try to resolve this new threat which has freaked out the local population she solves it by standing in the way as a rogue ship shoots at her thereby causing her and her crew to die, but wait a minute. The rumor of he death appears to be exaggerated.

The first few books are very good, the next few books are good, the last couple books are not great. Honestly, I think that the wheels didn't just fall off in the last two books but flew off at light speed.

The artificial intelligences were fun. The main character, Molly, was a little too powerful. This series of books is based on the Kurtherian Gambit series. The main character in that series is Bethany Anne. I felt like I was reading about a clone of Bethany Anne.

Bethany Anne has a strong sense of right and wrong. Molly, because of childhood trama, is not so clear on right and wrong... Somehow, within a few pages, she is suddenly as aggressive about right and wrong as Bethany Anne... It doesn't ruin the series, but it is a problem...

Like its parent series, almost all of the good guys are extremely sure of right and wrong. At times, one wonders if the characters are parodies or characters...

I was lucky enough to get this book on sale. The quantity of story for such a small price was an incredible deal. Since ten out of the twelve books were good, I really have NO complaints.

This series is fun and WELL WORTH reading. If you skip the last couple books, you won't really miss much.

Fascinating

I found the Authors prelude quite correct, I did thoroughly enjoy the antics of Molly.
When it comes down to the nitty gritty of Sci Fi or Fantasy it matters not that it is beyond reasonable belief. Our, 'readers ' concern is that we can identify with the Authors imagined themes, characters and story line and get lost for a while in a totally fictional world.
And that depends how the characters are created, the plot hatched and you are so engrossed in the story that you must go on. That all depends on the writing abilities of the Authors, and Leigh and Michael have got those abilities in abundance.
Excellent story highly recommended,, where's the next. Well done.

This had better not be the last we hear of the Sanguine Squadron

I'm pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed this series so much.
I didn't come into it expecting much more than a filler until I figured out which of the main character's stories to read next.

Following Molly's gang has been both exciting and emotional. I couldn't keep from becoming attached to the characters and feeling totally immersed in their lives.

This was not just filler. This is the is a fantastic group of people whose lives I want to read more of.

Do yourself a solid and read these books.
You can thank me when you finish and eare wanting more. The way I'm feeling now.

Thank you Michael and Ell Leigh.
You did it again!

Outstanding - a Recommended Binge Read!

Loved the characters and the plot. As Ms Clark said, it was so easy to connect with Molly and her vulnerabilities. As the story progresses her character as a "work in progress" becomes a source of inspiration for healing the brokeness we all ahare as people. Thanks for a great read, a space opera, scifi, fantasy, adventure, but most of all a very well-constructed tale. I again fall back on my Oliver Twist impersonation. "can I have some more please?" Yes, a good story often feeds you as much as the biggest plate of gruel. All the best : )

Strong female character solves problems without wars or killing. A small group of talented people of high morality sit out to read their world of evil. Hello say very pleasant read without great surprises but with fun mysteries and each novel. Being able to havepages of this pleasant gentle read there’s a pandemic lifesaver. And the first A I that I can remember that has a sense of humor

That’s nice imagine a world where else a group of good guys who are really smart and dedicated to doing the next right thing without killing anyone unlike most other sci-fi ‘s. The women characters are very feminine and very competent. anyone who messes with Jack will probably regret it!

I really enjoyed the series. You can get close to the characters and their personal lives. There was a great interplay between them. I liked how not everything was settled by shooting but used other means to out smart the bad guys. Snarky A.I., disappearing cat and pizza with beer.... What could be better. I hope the authors will continue the series from where they left off as I turely believe there are so many more adventures this crew can do, it would be a shame not to give them a chance. I hope to read more in the near future.

Must read as a set!!!

Loved the characters and the story line!
The few objections I have were the odd use of "eh?" (Are they Canadian?), the random British slang words and the overuse of "earth culture" on a planet far, far away from earth , a150 years after the world's worst day ever!! Other than that, I enjoyed this series. I do wish we were exposed to The Ascension Race a bit more.... I felt a lot of questions were still.left unanswered. It would also have been fun to see what everyone decided to do with their second chance....

I Read epic adventures non stop and I like these a lot...

Superb as usual. Thanks.
It's always good when the tale twists and turns unexpectedly and there's loads of fine characterisation and some tension with occasional treachery and a hint of alien super race. Ooh don't forget the challenges and while you're at it, remember to prepare your class plan for tomorrow. Aahh, peace at last.

Unbelievable

I will be 78 years young in August and have been reading SF for close to 65 of them in all of writing styles, stories (short-medium-long etc) there is only 6 or7 that is on the same level as this series and 1 or 2 that is slightly above. In all of those years, this life story has it all. Well done I will read more all that you folks offer my Thanks for a couple of weeks living vicariously thru your consummate writing styles.

Excellent Entertainment

12 book series. One HUGE box set. I enjoyed every step of Molly's journey. A space story with an eclectic cast of characters and a plethora of subplots. There is humor and sadness, social injustices righted, and just enough mysticism to keep me wondering ' Where are they going with this?'

Enjoyed the books...but....

I was disappointed that the reunion of Molly and crew with Paige and Myah and Arlene and Anne and Giles and Molly's parents .... Was alluded to but not able to read about. It left one wanting to experience the reactions and emotions of everyone involved. And...the reunion of Oz and Bourne....and don't forget the cat!!!!

Best series of books ever read!

This was one of the most delightful series I have ever read. The characters were so defined and wonderfully alive. It kept me up at night reading and that hasn't happened since I was a teenager and I am many, many years past that time in my life. I cried at the end and wish I could continue along with their lives.

the Ascension Myth, books 1 - 12

An amazing series of stories about Molly Bates and her crew, I have read and thoroughly enjoyed all 12 books. A great ending, (no spoiler) , I am glad I was able to read these, but sad that I have now got to the end, I will check to see if there is any more tales. I recommend this set of books, I am happy to give it 5 stars.

I want more

This side bar books was probably the best of them all that I’ve read they develop the characters fantastically kept it light and funny and really drew me into this part of the world that Michael has created Michael’s books tend to be more two dimensional but ascension was completely three-dimensional loved it would love to know what Molly and then get up to you later

Amazing

Just. To be able to read these 12 books straight thru in one LARGE edition without the time lag of waiting for the next book to be released was great.
This is one of the best series I have read from the Kurtherian Universe.
Thank you Ms. Clark....

Great Series

Great story, loveable, well developed characters and a uniquely built universe. Enjoyable! Could have stood a good bit more editing, but that seems to be a common trait of e-publishing, where the final edit @ paper printing no longer occurs.

A Change of Pace

Four stars for.making me think about that University Molly set up. There was some "left.field" areas but not enough to distract from the story. But the team never messed up and everyone messes up once in their life.

I loved Molly with all of her perfect imperfections. The beginning had me completely engrossed, but I lose momentum about 2/3 of the way through. The last couple of stories I found to be a little dull and disappointing.

Another world 🌍 another adventure.

Depth of character and convoluted storyline give this series a delicious and frivolous entertainment value rarely seen in military Sci Fi. Let's blow up 😜 another one!
