I love this book!

Not just because it was written by one of my favorite authors but because it was written about something I try to be, a grandpa. I don't mean just try to be a grandpa I am that anyway without any trying on my part my Son and Daughter did all the work there . But I mean a Grandpa like the one in this story and the one like I had. I had the best Grandpa in the world! You can argue about it but I will not be changed I know it's true and that is why I try to be just like my Grandpa Robeson. He wasn't educated but he was the smartest man I have ever known. He was kind, considerate, and when he was crossed he was mean as a coiled rattler. This story has a lot of good things in it so please enjoy it as I did. Thank you Mr. Lane for writing such a good book.

Elliott and Grandpa by R.O. Lane tell the story of a seven-year-old boy, Elliott, who runs away from home when his mother marries a man that he knows doesn’t like him. He was on his way to his grandfather’s ranch when his grandfather found him following the railroad track, some twenty miles from his mother’s home in the middle of a freezing chilly night.

What starts out as a relaxing read soon heats up when cattle rustlers enter the picture. This read has something to offer everyone. The love of a grandfather for his grandson and the life they forge together. There’s romance and fist fights; escaped convicts and hired assassins; weddings and cold-blooded murders.

At first I thought this heartwarming tale was being told through the eyed of Webb Ranson, the Grandfather, but in the closing passages we discover that it’s the grandson, Elliott, who is telling this engrossing story. Although this is a work of fiction, it reads like a true story, an exciting memoir.

As a Beta reader and ARC reviewer I read and review many books every week, but it has been many years since any book has touched my heat the way Elliott and Grandpa have. I will be reading this story again and again with the passage of time.

The Joy of Children

R. O. Lane is one of the best western writers of these modern times. He writes into his characters a healthy dose of compassion, love and toughness that really comes alive in a very real way. His readers need to steel themselves for laughter, tears and heartwarming human behavior of the old West flavor.

Elliot and Grandpa immediately captured my attention as I also had the awesome opportunity to work on a ranch with one of my own grandfathers. This book brought back many fond memories of love and danger; tears and just good old fashioned compassionate human behavior that have me wanting to read it again. And I will!

Thank you Mr. Lane for ALL your great books!

Fantastic story 🥰😂⭐️

Best of the best, take s a lot to make me cry in a book… You managed to do it, so proud of Elliott all the way through the book he was such a great little boy & I am not a “child “ person most are a pain u know when, but he was a great kid and grew into a great man, all thanks to a” great “ grandpa “ . If you don’t read this you have missed the boat, in the beginning I almost put it down but than I couldn’t put it down. Read the whole thing in a day and evening..
Would recommend to everyone, a great story and fantastic ending . If I could give it more than 5 star ⭐️ I would ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nothing better than a good grandpa!

A young eight-year-old boy is afraid of the man that his mother plans on marrying so he begs to live with his grandpa. It doesn’t really happen until he runs away from home, and his grandpa finds in walking along the tracks. I also had a great grandpa, that instilled great teachings. This young man was very lucky to have the grandpa he had. Must-read to enjoy all their adventures together and experiences. A great read! Thank goodness for the recluse named Elliot that was such a sharp shooter.

R.O. Lane's "Elliott and Grandpa" is a Western tale about young and old trying to survive the everyday world in the nineteenth century. They needed a social structure that all could live under, good or bad. Bad was simple: You did what you wanted, when you wanted, with no conscience. Good was complex. Doing the right thing is hard and dangerous. Being a good person takes intelligence, patience and courage. This story has it all.

Amazing

Lots of cowboy action, told with insight and ethics. Young Elliott goes to live with his recently widowed Grandpa when his own mother decides to marry a man that Elliott does not trust. Grandpa gives him an education and keeps him safe. The side stories are as entertaining as the focus on Elliott maturing into a fine adult. I finished the book with a huge smile, and I pronounce this book a true treasure.

Great Western with a unique story l

I really enjoyed the story and the hero was unusual because he was only 7years old when this wonderful story begins. As usual all of R.O.Lanes stories are hard to put down until they are finished and I have probably read over half of his great western stories

Another great book by Mr.R.O.Lane.

I have all of your books, and I am proud to say that you have out done yourself in this book. But I am not surprised in the least. You are "true" story teller . Thank you for the story and the realism in the two main characters. Congratulations, keep writing.

I loved the book. I told my husband about it and his reaction was that it sounded like a feely good book with no action. I told him to try to read it and if he did't like it I would find him another book. Well, he couldn't put it down! He said it had action, humor, and family. He should listen to his better half more often!!!!

This story was WONDERFUL!! It has everything. Great characters, suspense, shootouts, bad guys and good. It's too bad the world isn't filled with more people like Grandpa, Elliott, Justine and Willis for this would be a much better world!! RO Lane has written another compelling story with believable characters and real-life experiences. When Elliott came to live with his grandpa he was influenced by the old man's integrity and personal strength. Elliott grew and matured as he learned how to live as a cowboy and a person eager to learn and grow. Their experiences included danger and violence that was met headon by grandpa.
This story read like it was written by Elliott as we saw him mature and become an adult and became a person of integrity to be admired by all who knew him.

A great family story. Highly recommended.

Grandpas

Our grandson is 8 years old. He and his mom and dad love next door to us. He and my husband are very close!!!!! One of their favorite things to do is put on some Three Stooges tapes and watch them. The two of them just sit and laugh and laugh!!!! Grandparents are important. 😄

I was hesitant to select this book for awhile, and after seeing it on my suggested reading list several times, I finally ordered it not expecting it to be my kind of book. Boy, was I ever surprised !! I could not put it down, staying up til' the wee hours of the morning reading myself to sleep. I highly recommend this book.

A boy learns the values of his grandfather.

An incredible story of a boy coming to learn and love the values of his grandfather. An excellent read by R.O. Lane. It's full of family values and perilous events in the the ranch land of Northwestern Nebraska in the late 1880's & 1890's

The Best

I think this is my very favorite R.O. Lane Western!

If you like westerns about orphans, you'll love this.

I would rate it PG only because it is a western - people get shot and killed.

5 STARS, ENDEARING & POIGNANT SHOOT-EM-UP ACTION

5 STARS storyline filled with shoot-em-up action & especially feelings between a grandpa & grandson. Great characters that help showcase their relationship. Also lots of 2nd chance at romance & by some who were successful the first time around.

Good exciting read. RECOMMENDED

Good story

I read this book when it first came out. I reread it today and enjoyed it again. I felt that there was ample action, likeable characters, and a epilogue included. Too many stories on kindle lack character development and almost no action. This is one of the author's better stories.

Best of the Rest

This was, I believe, the 13th book by the author and I truly believe that it was the best of all of his books that I have read. The fact that it dealt with a grandfather's relationship with his grandson was a special element.

Hard to put down!!!

This story is about earlier times and family values. A great read that has excitement, danger and strong family values. It kept me up until 2AM. The characters were all very easy to imagine as living people.
A book to recommend to all.

A good read

The title pretty much says it all. Elliott and Grandpa is a good read. And, you don't have to like Westerns or History. With a very few changes this could be about ANY time frame.
