Surprise, surprise! My baby daddy bailed me out of bankruptcy.
I never expected James to be back. It means trouble. He has no clue that he’s the father of my kid. How could he? He abandoned me when I needed him. And now, he thinks that my whole world belongs to him. Yeah, right… It’s a lie he needs to stop telling himself. Even if he’s the hottest FBI field agent to ever exist. James is investigating a dangerous threat. A threat that wasn’t supposed to harm me. But I’m connected to him, so that must’ve made me eligible. Danger is right around the corner. So is heartbreak. What will strike first?
I definitely do not want to go back to being a teenager just starting out in life. I completely understood both of these characters. Being young you don’t always make the best decisions. I liked Bree and I understood her logic more than I did James. They both made bad decisions without communicating with each other. It was really thoughtless of James to expect Bree to move across the country while her mother had stage 4 cancer. I completely understand why she was mad and wouldn’t leave with him. I don’t agree that she kept Ian a secret from Ian but I get why she did it. I did like when he found out and he cooled off they finally had a rational conversation trying to work out what would be best for Ian. Communication is key! I wasn’t thrilled that she stayed celibate during their time apart and he had moved on being with a number of women. It’s a pet peeve of mine when the women never gets to have a sex life. Just because you’re a mom doesn’t mean you have to stop having sex. I also didn’t like that he was a little angry that she might have had sex with another man when he completely moved on to other women. I hate hypocrisy. I liked the suspense aspect of this story, romantic suspense is one of my favourite genres. It was a good overall story and look forward to the next one.
Safety and Spoilers Completely safe. No ow/om drama, h was kidnapped by the bad guy in the story but she was able to help herself. H had been with a number of women during their separation and h was celibate. No abuse.

A second chance at first love the one that you’ll never forget. I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced copy of this book.
Bree loved James when she was a teenager and that Love has grown everyday but when he left for college he also left her the greatest gift of all her son Ian. She’s built a life but she’s struggling to keep her head above water trying to give her son all he needs, the last thing she wants or needs is James turning up. But he is back but not for her, he’s now an FBI agent and he’s investigating cyber crime and she’s apparently now in danger. Can they heal the wounds of the past especially when he discovers he has a son?
James couldn’t wait to escape the small town that he lived in but the one thing he regretted was leaving Bree behind, but now he’s got a successful career within the FBI and has been sent to investigate cyber attacks in the area. After leaving town on bad terms with his father he is still shocked to discover the farm he called home is now owned by none other than his first love Bree and she’s not living alone. How will James react to his son after missing so much of his life and when all is said and done walk away from the one woman who always had his heart?
A story of love, regret and second chances, these two characters have the power to heal each other. Great read. 4.5🌟. This was an advanced copy but I even bought a copy.
This is a well written second chance romance between Bree and James. They were high school sweethearts until he leaves for college without knowing she's pregnant. Five years later he's back as an FBI agent working on a terrorist cyber attack. The spark is still there but will he forgive her for not telling him? The author does a great job developing the story as she pulls them together. She brings drama and danger as well as suspense and romance. I was glued to the pages with all the twists and turns and loved reading their story.Little Ian is adorable and steals the show. Loved and recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
loved it !!! love Bree and Ian... James ? this is their story.. a fast paced action packed drama...about second chances and misunderstandings with danger thrown into the mix...

Do you ever forget about your first love the one person that you make your life plans with from going off to college to getting married and settling down and starting family? Well for Bree everyday for the last four years she has a remainder of her first love James when she looks into the eyes of her son Ian!
But James is now back in the small town he grow up in and couldn't wait to get away from as an FBI agent there to look into cyber attacks in the area.
James and his father didn't part on good terms and they haven't spoken since James went off to college what James wasn't expecting was to his ex Bree not only living at the farm he called home but also the owner!
This is a story of regret, longing and healing for both James and Bree both making mistakes when they were younger both unable to turn back the clock; but maybe now a little older and wiser they can right the wrongs of the past!
Adolescence is one of the most difficult times of an individual’s life. A child transitions into a stage of self-reliance, seeking independence from the established adult figures, and that transition is often marked by tensions and struggles between the child/adolescent and the adult as independence is gained and control is lost. And, if the adult and emerging adolescent already have a strained relationship, true understanding and empathy is impossible.
For beautiful green-eyed Bree Easton, growing up in Laurel Bay, a small rural Texas community with a single parent with health issues, her life was controlled by her need to care for and parent her parent. While she loved James Wakefield, her best friend since childhood and her first and only lover, and she wanted to embrace his vision of their future—if she were free to embrace it—free of responsibilities. And, if she had known his vision of the future and how she might fit into it, she might have been informed of the joys and challenges they might face as a couple. But, he did not share. He told her of his love for her, his desire to marry her, and his acceptance to college in Michigan, but he had offered her no hints or suggestions of how they might make their separate dreams the same dream. While his dream was to become an FBI agent, and so his studies would be directed towards that goal, he did not address Bree’s need to care for her parent or even explore Bree’s educational or professional dreams. And so, while he proposed, she refused his vision of their future which would have required that they leave Laurel Bay, and her sick mom. And so, she rejected his heart felt offer because of his limited and one-sided vision of their future. And she stayed, putting aside her own educational and vocational aspiration of becoming a veterinarian to care for her mom until her death, to make plans for her secret pregnancy, and eventually to move into the ranch house where James had grown up, holding onto the property his dad and step-mom with no clear, shared vision for the future expect to raise the baby he didn’t know existed.
Now, 5 years later out of the Houston FBI Office, Agent Wakefield, whose dark eyes seem to take in everything, has been sent to Laurel Bay to follow the lead on credible information of a terrorist group working out of the Laurel Bay area whose intent is to disrupt the Texas electric grid. Upon his return home for the first time in 5 years, Agent Wakefield finds a world that is familiar, but has somehow, been rearranged. His young lover, Bree now lives at his family ranch along with his dad, his step-mom and a 4-year-old boy, Ian. And, it is Bree who now has title to the small ranch, but who is also working in town as a vet tech and pulling a shift as a volunteer first responder for the community. And while all who knew him from the past welcome him back, James feels that somehow he is not fully in touch with the sub-plot of his former community and certainly not of this merged family living at what he thought was his dad’s ranch.
Miley Maine delivers a romantic tale designed to keep the reader entertained and entangled in the fates of Bree and James as they learn to trust and love again. With an engaging story, passionate moments, growing love and increasing danger weaving into the lives and love of the two young lovers, now adult frenemies, the author offers the reader a great romantic tale of growing emotions, and love worth the wait.

After leaving his family and his first love behind to pursue his career as an FBI agent, James is back in his hometown for the first time in years. But not to reconcile with his family or Bree but to stop a cyber attack. He wasn’t expecting the owner of his family’s farm to be Bree nor was he expecting her to have a son!
This book was… interesting. It’s a second chance romance with a little suspense due to the terrorist attack aspect to it. The book started with Bree despising James presences in their hometown but eventually she lets him back into her life and eventually Ian’s life.
Things I didn’t like were Bree hiding Ian from James and Bree staying celibate during the years while James have been with other women. I will never understand why women will hide their children from the children’s dad (unless he’s abusive and just evil). And I have always disliked it when one main character was celibate during their time a part while the other was not. BUT I also understand that some people just prefer not to sleep around or date. And also, if Bree was struggling with money, how was she able to afford all of Ian’s costumes?

*spoilers* Bree and James knew each other since they were little children and became a couple as teenagers. James always felt trapped at the farm. His mother left when he was little and his father just wanted him on the farm and did not understand him. Bree's father was in and out of her life and was very sick when James asked to marry her after high school, she said yes for about 5 minutes, as he told further he had made future plans out of their little city, without asking her. After that she discovered she was pregnant and did not tell James. They have not seen each other for a long time. James became a FBI agent and their is a threat to his hometown, he got assigned to it. When he and Bree meet again, she seems to hate him. Then they get close to each other again, both realizing, that they always have loved each other. Can James forgive Bree for not telling him about his son? What is with the threat? Will they have a future with each other? This story is written so well, it really got to my heart. I cried and feared with and for them. There are so many aspects and little details. It is hard for me to read through the heartbreaking parts, but the end makes up for it :o)

This book brings us James, Bree, and Ian. James and Bree were engaged for a short time when they were 18 years old. James and his father did not get along, and James always knew he wanted to leave Laurel Bay so he left to go to college, leaving Bree along, with a very sick mother, and pregnant (which he had no idea). Bree came to live with James' parents, although they were never told that the baby she had (Ian) was James'. They gave the ranch to Bree, but it was hard work and she had little to no money. She also started the first volunteer fire department and people around town were grateful to her. James returns to Laurel Bay as there are criminals who want to destroy the grid there. James is shocked to see Bree at the ranch, and she is still very angry about the way he left. James is also curious as to who Ian's father is, but doesn't ask questions. I loved Ian and his need to dress up. It isn't until Ian finally takes off his mask that James knows he is his son and is more than furious at Bree. Will they be able to parent together or will James take Ian away. You must read this story - it is full of love, anger, mystery, and has a HEA. I highly recommend this book. I did get an ARC for an honest review..
In this book Bree Easton and James Wakefield have to decide if they, as a couple, are Worth the Wait. This is a second chance romance with a secret baby added in. Bree and James were high school sweethearts until he leaves to go to college. Bree in the meantime stays behind and has a baby, without ever telling him. After all he will only stay with her out of duty but will resent her for it. It is five years later and James has come back home. He is now an FBI agent and is working a case of a terrorist cyber-attack. He finds the town and the people the same but not quite the same also. He really has a surprise when he goes home to find his parents, Bree and four year old Ian all living together. It seems Bree was not the only one who kept her secret. The love, connection and chemistry between Bree and Jake ignites but with both being different now will they just have a fling or can they make it real? This is a very engaging story that has a lot of emotions, dreams, young love and family. There are also several large secrets that will be revealed and may cause more havoc than expected.

Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with! This is book is part of the Her Protector series why just read one when you can start at the beginning and keep reading through the series it won’t be a waste of time. Bree and James loved each other since they were teenagers but then he left for college with so many promises to return and he never returned. Had he returned he would have realized he left Bree with a gift that doesn’t end it only gets older his son. After struggling to build a life for herself and her son James decides to show up currently an FBI agent investigating cyber crimes which she is a target. James ran as fast and far to get away from the small town he grew up in however in doing so he left the one women that owned his heart now he is back to investigate with a successful FBI career and heading to the farm he grew up on, only to find the very women of the hour owns the farm now can he get her to forgive him, will she allow him to meet his son, why didn’t he come back, do they catch the cyber criminals and can they find happiness the second time around?
I've read several of Mikey's book and all of them gave me a happy and cozy feeling. I must however say this isn't the best one I read.(but still recommend it as an in-between book) It was fun and had an interesting story girl gets a marriage proposal, and within minutes he tells her he's accepted at a university and asks her to come with him. She refuses due to commitments(not telling what, because of spoilers) girl gets pregnant from her ex boyfriend, ex boyfriend doesn't know this, she doesn't tell him and after years they see eachother again and she's freaking out about him finding out the truth. The characters are well written, but after everything she feels/has happened she gives in way to easily, same for him. He's furious/angry/dissapointed and still with a snap of the fingers he gives in. Again can't tell to what or how because of the spoilers. In the end the book had an hea after lots of drama, action and suspense.

First Love, they say you never forget your first love and that's certainly the case for James and Bree, they were sweethearts in high school and everyone assumed they would marry. But then James left and hasn't communicated with his father or her for four years, but Bree's never forgotten him, how could she when she's reminded every day, every time she looks into the eyes of her son Ian. She's even living in the house he grew up in, in fact, she owns it!
Now an FBI agent he's back in town working on a case involving a terrorist threat when they meet again. All the feelings they once shared resurface, but she's holding back and keeping secrets, and why is she living at his old home? As for Bree, she's worried that the connection and closeness will end and he'll leave again when he learns about Ian.
This story is fast-paced, well-written and has enough suspense to keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat, will he solve his case? Will their love survive this time? Is there a HEA in their future?

This is the first time I have read a book by Miley Maine and loved it. The author is shows talented in writing of this book about a second chance in love for both Bree and James. They had been high school sweethearts until he went off to college. When he left he was unaware of Bree being pregnant. Five years go by and he returns as a FBI agent working a case on a terrorist cyber attack. They still have feelings for each other, but will he forgive Bree when he learns about Ian, their son? The author does an amazing job developing the characters so that they are so realistic and the storyline includes drama, danger, suspense and romance. Highly recommend the book. I will be looking for more books by this author and it was a great romantic suspense story.

Awww shucks this is a sweet one. When James get assigned to return home as part of a task team to caught terrorists who are cyber criminals he’s in more of a surprise when he comes face to face with his ex. Bree is struggling to get by. Being a single mother with part time jobs and running a farm full time take a lot out of you when you have a four year old. When James offers to help, she a little skiddish about it but comes around. When he learns the truth about the secret she kept, all bets are off. This is a book about second chances, a cyber attack, a kidnapping, rekindling a love that was never lost and finding family

This is an action adventure, second chance, secret baby romance with a nice amount of heat. Standalone with no cliffhangers. Bree is the single mother of a fun 4 year old boy. Living with her ex boyfriends dad and stepmother in a small town. Could life get any worse? Yes, Yes it can, James is in town on a job for the FBI. Hopefully she won't see him and he never meets her son. James has been gone for 4 years. He has so many questions, like why is Bree living with his dad and who is the father of her son? Oh and why is he still in love with her? What happens when he finds out who the father is? Who are the bad guys in town? Will he leave Bree again? Miley Maine’s second book in ‘Her Protector’ series is certainly worth the wait. There’s mystery, adventure, suspense and romance. James and Bree, the main characters, were once lovers until she threw her engagement ring in the river and told him to leave. It’s been almost five years since she’s seen him and now he’s back in town as an FBI agent. There’s still love with a lot of pain between them along with some surprises. There’s lots of strong emotions in this story and I can see both sides of the issues. This book is very riveting, hard to put down. Highly recommended and definitely a MUST read!
James and Bree were high school sweethearts but he left to start college and later became an FBI agent. Bree stayed because of her mothers health and she had his son, Ian. Neither knows what the other has been doing when he is assigned a cyber crime in the area. Finding Bree again and her surprise changes his whole life. The characters are strong and determined, both having dealt with so much in their lives already. The storyline has drama, suspense, surprises, twists and second chance romance. Loved the situations with Ian and the rescue. Great ending.

The love that didn’t die Bree and James had fallen in love in high school; however, he left her behind when he went to college. At the time he didn’t know that she was pregnant, and she didn’t tell him because she wanted him to be able to follow his dreams. When he comes back to town it’s to solve a cyber crime. He finds out that she has purchased his family’s farm and that she’s not living alone. Will they be able to walk away again? Great characters in this well written and captivating story. Bree is living in Laurel Bay with her son Ian and his grandparents. Bree's mother had died four years earlier, the same time her love, James left for college. ames is back in Laurel Bay with the FBI on a case while trying to protect Bree and Ian. Can Bree and James get back together? Will she tell him that Ian is his son? I enjoyed this book as I do all Miley Maine's books. Ms. Maine gave us a strong heroine and hero and a strong story line.

This is ook 2 in Maine's series Her Protector. Main characters are James and Bree who start as High school sweethearts and first loves. As James leaves for college, a miscommunication tears their teenage dreams and plans of a HEA apart. But you never forget your first love and in Bree's case she has a daily reminder. A very good romance read about second chances for your first love that will pull at your heartstrings and leave you smiling and satisfied.

Bree and James went to school together. They dated while they were in high school. James couldn't wait to graduate and go away to college. Bree couldn't go with James because her mother was sick and she needed to stay to take care of her. They had a bad break up. After being gone for 5 years James came back to investigate a case because he was an FBI agent. Do you think Bree and James will get back together. Do you think James will find out the secret Bree was keeping from him. Read this book to find out the answers. I would recommend reading this book.
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. James and Bree have a second chance at love together. They were young when they went their separate ways. He left her with unexpected pregnancy that she never told him about. When given a chance to be together again, she cannot hide their child from him. They have a lot of issues between them but work to make things right for their son. There is drama, danger, heartbreak, suspense, secrets, lust and love.

Bree had been in love with James but they had the biggest misunderstanding that their engagement lasted for only about 5 mins. James left to go to college and became and FBI agent which was his dream but never asked Bree what she wanted. He ends up getting sent back to his home town and they run into each other. When this little boy runs out, Ian, Bree stiffens. There is action, kidnapping, steam, forgiveness, awareness, and most of all the love never dies. Totally enjoyed this story. Bree loved James when she was younger but he left her when he went off to college, not knowing she was pregnant. James waned nothing more than to leave his small town, even if it meant leaving Bree. Years later he is back and is an FBI agent and needs to keep Bree safe. What will he do when he finds out he has a son? Will they get through what happened in their past to see what their future has for them as a family?

Bree and James were sweethearts until James left town for college leaving Bree behind. Bree struggled to support and provide for their son Ian on her own. Years late James has returned home and is now a successful FBI agent in town for a case that could put Bree's life in danger. One of his regrets is how he left Bree and to his surprise Bree is living at the family home and he also is a father. Can they overcome their past and find a HEA?

This is such a great read. Bree and James were childhood sweethearts until he left for college. When he returns to town as part of the FBI team investigating a dangerous crime and when he sees Bree the chemistry between them is still there. What will happen when he finds out the big secret she is keeping from him. A great second chance romance with plenty of drama and so much emotion but can they get their HEA. Brilliant ending.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It is a second chance for James and Bree with a touch of danger. Things weren't right the first time James proposed and he ended up leaving town alone. He returns as an FBI agent on a case and finds Bree still there and a surprise. Of course Bree gets involved in the case and James rescues her. Their love for each other stayed strong and it only took three proposals for them to marry.
