Katie needed an escape, Jasper needed a wife; neither expected to fall in love. Katie worked in a sweatshop six days a week, fourteen hours a day, and barely managed to earn enough to sustain body and soul. When her wages are again cut for no good reason, she knows she’s sure to starve if she does not try for a different way of life. A letter from her friend urges her to respond to the advertisements in the Matrimonial Times. Although not eager, Katie realizes this is her only hope for survival. Jasper needs a wife. After being charmed by the handsome rancher over the course of a few letters, Katie finally accepts his proposal. She heads West in search of a new life, not allowing herself to dream that love might be an option. Soon after her arrival, she learns that Jasper lured her West with lies. Having been betrayed and without funds to return to New York, Katie has no choice but to stay on at the ranch. Although she is furious at Jasper for luring her through duplicity, she knows she needs to be grateful for a home and three meals a day. She suffers through the first few months but not without losing her heart to the handsome widower. There’s only one problem, this widower did not want love. Can Katie forgive Jasper for his betrayal? Will Jasper be able to love again after burying the love of his life? Find out now as Emma Ashwood takes you on a magical journey into the wild west. Sometimes in life you have to expect the unexpected because sometimes it’s even better than your wildest dreams.
Emma Ashwood always writes sweet short books, with different plots and themes and always a Happy Ever After, and this book is no different. Katie Mayfield an orphan is leading a life of abject poverty, despite working many hours a day, feeling that God and everyone else has rejected her. Kate's boyfriend Susan had gone off to be a Mail Order Bride, and Katie is tempted but not fully convinced, but then her life gets too bad to be endured, and she starts writing to Jasper a rancher who offers everything that Katie wants, and so accepts his proposal. On arrival Katie realises Jasper is hiding a secret and is so disappointed, with him, but happiness prevails and the story reaches a Happy conclusion. I would thoroughly recommend it, if you like reading books with a 'feel good' factor.
A lovely story about being patient and kind. Give all you have to give and watch the sparks fly! Hats off to Katie and Jasper. Also, to Darla star-ed and Lettie was the good, patient, mama who held things together. Fantastic!!
Once I started reading, nothing else got done until I finished it. Loved when Katie found out she could be a mother and when Jasper realized that he could love again.
I enjoyed this quick read. A sweet story where everyone falls in love with one another by the end! But that is mail order brides for you! This story happened to include a darling baby and the kind of mother-in-law I’d have loved, and a beautiful setting to wrap it all up!

I enjoyed reading anothBer inspirational tale of love and new beginnings. Ms .Gillcrest’s writing style is enjoyable and flows easily along. Her characters are multi-dimensional. The plot line is a character-driven one. The protagonists face challenges as they work to strengthen their vulnerabilities and reliance on their faith. I like how they struggle with t inner demons and insecurities; thus, making them seam real. Dialog is rich. Descriptive language paints vivid scenes that garners her readers attention.
Thank you for this unpredictable story about Katie and the disappointment she experienced as a mail order bride. The storyline was fast-moving and the characters were great. Even though Katie wasn't getting her wish, God had a better and more fulfilling plan for Katie, Jasper, Darla, and Lettie....a happily ever after, plus one.
What a sweet tale of stretching your wings, having faith and believing in God's miracles. A woman given away at birth, a man losing his wife during birth and the miracle of love.
