The words that taunted FBI Agent Emma Griffin on the blood-soaked train ride from Sherwood continue to follow her. Drawn to Feathered Nest, she discovers that the horror is far from over and whoever is behind the dare has no intention of his brutal game slowing down any time soon. While in Feathered Nest, she revisits Cabin 13 to figure out the truth behind the necklace and search for more clues to discover the secret of the dead man that she found on its doorstep.
As she tugs the threads of the mysteries that have haunted her, the life Emma thought she knew starts to unravel around her. How well did she really know her mother and father? How much can she trust Greg? Are the secrets in Feathered Nest really her own?
Lives depend on Emma's skill and instinct. Some she has the chance to save. Others are long lost, but she can ensure they are remembered for what they were. As she pieces together the stories of her past, she begins to realize they are far bigger than she could have imagined. But only Emma can determine how they end.
There is no turning back now. It is catch or be caught. Hunt or be hunted.
Okay, so here we are, six books in. The promise of answers to Emma's mystery is finally a reality and not just a promise so I was very compelled to read this book. It was a little slow at first and I think the main thing that does that for me is the Lotan/Leviathan thing is... somewhat boring? It's interesting in Emma's eyes but I feel that getting the inside look from the other perspectives is confusing and reveals things in a way that isn't exactly interesting but kind of spoils things and I'd rather just see what's going on with our dear Emma. The writing here is somewhat not as great as the others, and the author has put out so many of these books in such a short time I wonder if that affects the quality and I certainly wouldn't mind a little more wait if that is something AJ needs, but they're still well-written, some habits like putting all of the thoughts into paragraphs when dialogue might have been more fun come up quite a bit in this book but by the last 30% of the book I was a lot more interested and excited in what was going on.
“It was rude and presumptive to go into somebody’s private space and sit down without a chair being offered or asking first. You never know when someone has already assigned their seats or their time. When you do that, you are assuming you’re welcome and that the chair, and the time, is openly available to you. Just because a chair is empty doesn’t mean it’s available. A person who wishes to speak with you for only a moment will have you stand, a person with more time will ask you to sit. Never take a seat from someone only offering space to stand.”
The Girl and the Hunt — A.J. Rivers, 2020 (Emma Griffin FBI Mysteries book 6)
Slower read than the previous ones, not much happened and it didn’t get interesting until the end. AND there are too many weird made-up names to keep track of.
Book 6 in the Emma Griffin series is just as thrilling as I had hoped. A.J. Rivers has created a diverse group of characters and in this book, continues to give insights into the histories of many of them. She brilliantly develops a fascinating story, discloses even more of their perspectives, and adds more mystery to the protagonists at the same time. I look forward to each new book from this extraordinary author and am always engrossed by her stories. I finish each book with one thought - how long will I have to wait for the next book?
I enjoyed the first couple of books in this series but then it just got repetitious. The parts with the secret society are just dumb. It never ends! The main character? Uff da!
I won't be reading any more of these. Maybe I'll read the last one written to see if it actually ends at some point!
I’m hoping the next book comes out soon because this one has the biggest cliffhanger so far. I’m trying not to give anything away. You definitely will not be disappointed. I’m feeling just as eager as Emma to find Catch Me, Ian and the Uncle.
ehhhhh. i wanted to love it so bad! i just hated how slow it was. it was like 95% of the book was build up but then things started going super fast right before the book ended. the way it ended made me mad. i understand it was supposed to be a cliffhanger but it was so predictable!
The Girl and the Hunt is book 6 in the Emma Griffin FBI mysteries and we are finally getting answers about Emma's family.
This book unlike the other books in the series has little short chapters where we get to see other's points of view. During these points of view, we get to see things from the past, that help us learn more about Emma's stalker and her trying to find out what happened to her dad. We also have her back in Feathered Nest where this all started and she is now once again connected to another murder. Whoever is stalking her is now also leading her on a wild goose chase of sorts and it's getting deadlier for everyone closer to.
The Girl on the Hunt also brings a new potential future mystery-solving partner in for Emma by the name of Dean. We met him first on the train in the last one and it turns out they are more connected than that and have been trying to find one of the same people. While Emma of course doesn't trust him fully, she does rely on him some to help her find some info out. This book also heavily involves Bellamy and Eric again and we see Emma really relying on them more and more of their friendship dynamic.
"This person is doing this because of me. Like I said, this is a game. A sick, twisted, screwed-up, patented by Hades himself game, but a game. And he doesn't want to play with you. He wants to play with me... So let me play."
Overall I think this one might be my favorite of the series so far because of how much we found out in it. Not only are we finally getting answers about Emma's parents, but also answers about the stalker we've seen her dealing with throughout the series as well. I loved seeing all the flashbacks from different people as it helped piece things together and what has been happening for the past ten plus years and how things got to the point that they are now that Emma is involved or at least a target in them.
I cannot wait to read book seven and see hopefully how this all wraps up as I'm really hoping we get some official answers as to why this is happening to her and those around her.
While the blurb indicates you can read the first season, books 1-7, as stand alone books, there would be a lot you wouldn’t understand. FBI agent Emma Griffin solves murder cases. She’s clever and observant. Each book involves a crime she has to solve, but there is another story that starts in book 1, The Girl in Cabin 13, and continues to #7. There is a mystery surrounding Emma’s parents and her own identity. Her mother died when Emma was 12 and her father disappeared when she turned 18. She remembers happy times with her mother, but has nightmares about the night her mother was murdered. The killer was never found. That mystery haunts Emma. Where is her father, and why did he disappear? Why did the family move so often when she was growing up? She’s determined to solve these questions.
In the meantime, strange things are happening. Someone is watching and pursuing her. He leaves presents and notes for her. Later a severely demented person begins to murder people and challenging her to “Catch Me!”
In addition, Emma’s relationship with another agent comes to an end, and he disappears. She reconnects with a previous boyfriend, Sam, the Sheriff of Sherwood, VA, a small town where she once lived with her grandparents. Things get serious between them, as they try to pick up where they left off.
The story has unexpected twists and turns. The identity of the murderer in each nook is a surprise. However, who has been following her? Who is Catch Me? What happened to her father? Who murdered her mother and why? Where is Greg? I’m about to find out as I read book #7, The Girl and the Deadly End.
Book 6 was a little better than the last few. At least the story made sense and the characters weren't just there for fluff. I still hate how the Chief in Feathered Nest is written to behave. And I'm not a fan of Emma's attitude toward Nicholas. He doesnt seem like a bad guy but for an FBI agent she is incredibly unprofessional toward him. The story itself was much more smooth and fast-going this time. I didnt have to struggle forward as I did with the last few. However , the end up abrupt and annoying. If Emma planned on sleeping in the hospital room, the FBI would have never left her alone on watch. And why did no one question Martin more considering he just missed the man by mere seconds/minutes earlier. Emma was the only one who seemed suspicious which either means that's not good writing or very inexperienced agents working the case. Also, as an agent she would be trained for signs of poisoning and whatnot. I'm a mere civilian and knew enough to know that coffee isn't naturally that sweet (it would take numerous packs of sugar to overpower coffee taste) There are two more Emma books after this. However, an insert in this book says Book 7 will be the last of this adventure. So if I finish Book 7 and Rivers provides all the answers and loose ends, I unfortunately really don't see myself starting a new adventure in Book 8.

I’ve read the first five books of the Emma Griffin FBI Mystery series, so it's surprising that I gave The Girl and the Hunt only two stars. The low rating stems from three key factors. First, despite being familiar with the series, I got lost among the various characters, and I can’t imagine how confusing this would be for someone reading it as a standalone. Second, the flashbacks and the narratives by the same characters only added to the confusion, making it harder to follow. Third, the book lacks a clear ending, as it seems more like a lead-in to future installments.
The series’ overarching theme revolves around Emma's tragic past—the death of her mother, the disappearance of her father, and her FBI colleague and boyfriend Greg’s sudden vanishing. While earlier books combined this backstory with a standalone mystery, The Girl and the Hunt focuses almost entirely on Emma's family history and flashbacks, leaving the present mystery unfulfilling. Despite these frustrations, I’ll probably move on to book seven since I’ve come this far, and book six seemed like a setup for more to come.
Emma Chases a Serial Killer, More of her Early Life is Revealed
After her and Sheriff Johnson’s baring train ride, she is once again in the town of Feathered Nest albeit with her friend/ love interest Sheriff Johnson. She is here to try to catch the Serial Killer, “Catch Me” whose focus is playing a deadly game with her. The woman whose name was used to lure Emma on the train is brutally murdered there and the Emma’s ex-boyfriend is found on her lawn in Virginia nearly dead. One family secret that is revealed is that she has an uncle that is an identical twin of her missing father.
Unlike the prior books, after reading this book you must go to the final book of this series to fined out the truth behind Emma’s early life, her father’s change from a valued CIA Operative to a leader of a terrorist organization and who the serial killer is and whether he/she is caught. A true cliff hanger.
What crap!! All the same stuff I disliked about the first five books, complete with extra gratuitously gratuitous violence (aka "violence porn," just a bunch of in my humble opinion hardcore unnecessary stuff thrown in there for people who take sick pleasure in such).
The ONLY reason I'm going to read the next book in this series is because A.J. Rivers said at the end of this one that "Book 7 will be the grand finale for this season of Emma Griffin adventures," which I (mis)read in a hurry and thought indicated the grand finale, period.
Nope, turns out there are 21 books in this series. How did that not register with me to start with? It's not like I've taken to day drinking here lately or anything. Well, except for my regular football-related day drinking on certain Saturdays, but it's not like I'm reading on those days, y'all.
Book Review: The Girl and the Hunt by A.J. Rivers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am really enjoying this series! This one gave us more information into Emma’s dads disappearance and her mother’s death. Catch Me is continuing to taunt Emma and she is trying to figure out the clues to find him. The only thing I didn’t like about the book is the cliff hanger ending. Thank goodness I have access to the whole series, so I was able to start soon!
Overall this author has good writing skills however I am not enthralled with this series. There are way too many story line. I consider myself an average reader and prefer books that have way less crooks and crannies in them. This book would have been a page turner with only half the information provided and limited to four or five books. The main characters would do well in another series of books though on another topic. The way these books are written do not make sense to me and don't feel as though they could happen in real life. They feel more !like fantasy. I don't envision myself reading another series by this author.
I love this series. The main characters are well developed. The storyline is good and each book reveals a little more about Emma's mysterious background. She cleverly solves the current case while never giving up on finding her mother's killer, and solve the mystery surrounding her missing father and Greg. This book seemed a little harder to follow. New characters were introduced and others identified. I'm so ready for the answers to be revealed. I hope that the final book is released soon!
Book number 6 down. After the last book (the train book) I was very confused and almost ready to quit reading. This one definitely was WAY better! It helped piece together Emma’s story and how her Dad and Mom left. It’s still not the finale but you are starting to get all the different story plots pieced together. Going back to Feathered Nest…realizing the necklace doesn’t fit, the connection with Dean Steele the investigator on the train, Finding Greg….how will it end? Is Emma’s Dad Ian alive? Who is the Lotan? Who’s Emma’s mom?
More errors, like where Eric has taken the camera down & Martin has taken the ladder away, but yet Emma insists Eric replace the camera exactly where it was. He wouldn't be able to do that without the ladder. In the previous book, when Emma asks about the size of the room in the attic, she's told it's fairly large, but, then it's described twice more after that as being small. Where is the editing? If these errors were corrected, I'd enjoy these books a lot better, but errors like these just irritate me so much.
Here I am six books in. One more to go. This book was just a long stretch of Emma trying to figure things out. Honestly, I do not understand her bravery. She saw on the camera of Greg's hospital room a man with Greg who I'm guessing is Lotan. So she marched up to that same hospital room and stayed with Greg herself. Only to be stuffed into a hospital cabinet for 2 hours. WTH!? The end was very fast-paced I had to reread the ending pages.
My List of Suspects
Lotan/ Obviously Martin has something to do with it?!? "The Lamb" Is Greg Anson.( *guy playing catch me) Dean Steele
Another non-stop read!! Emma is back home again and things just don't make sense. Sam is trying to help her. But so much of what she learns just adds more confusion. Emma finally learns, that her father is actually has a twin. Not only that, Emma winds up in trouble herself!! A read, that will be very hard to put down, to the very end!! Only leaving the reader wanting more!!
If you're anything like me, a binge reader, you will stay up late to keep turning the page. More questions arise than answers and every clue leads to another. The rabbit hole is deep in this series! I look forward to each book as it brings us closer to the exhilarating conclusion that untangles the mysteries of Emma's parents death and disappearance, in that order.
I'm getting dizzy trying to figure out what's going on. What a tightly woven plot. I'm beginning to think Emma has a completely different father than she thinks. Who is Steele and does his connection go deeper? Will Greg survive? If he does, is he the key that will bring everything together! I can't wait to read this last book. More twists and turns than a rollercoaster.
This book was enlightening. But it didn't put me on the edge of my seat. I did however like it, and would recommend it. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I have. I will keep reading this series, because I want to see it to the end. I don't tell what is in the books I read. That is for you to read and find out. Thank you A.J.Rivers. Off to the next book in this series.
I can’t wait to read the seventh and last book in this series although I will miss my daily dose of Emma. It will be nice to tie up loose ends and have questions answered in this last book. I have really enjoyed this series and I love this authors writing style. The books are easy to read. I love all the characters and they each have their own voice and looks that plays in my mind as I read. I love Emma’s bravery and hard headed ness. Happy reading!
One of the best series I've read in a long time. Only one more book in series and I'm looking forward to it but also am going to be sad when it's over. A.J. Rivers has become one of my new favorite authors. If you aren't reading her you need to be. Each book just keeps getting better and better. If you want an amazing read that has everything from surprise to intrigue to non stop suspense than you need to be reading A.J. Rivers.
Where the last book had some plot blunders and massive confusion, this book brings everything back into focus.
Emma is back in Feathered Nest but her tormentor has beaten her there. A bloody crime scene raises more questions about Emma's past. As the clues unfold Emma realizes things in her childhood were not always what they appeared. She has to sift through her memories and the lies to get closer to the truth... or die trying
