Anna Celeste Burke is an awarding-winning, USA Today & Wall Street Journal Bestselling author! Welcome! Join me, snooping into life's mysteries with fun, fiction, and food--California style!
Life is an extravaganza and so unpredictable! Figuring out how to hang tough and make the most of the wild ride is the challenge.
On my way to Oahu to join the rock musician and high school drop-out I married in Tijuana, I was nabbed by the police as a runaway. When the police let me go and the rock band broke up, my husband and I had to find another way to survive. Our next stop: Disney World where we trained to be chefs, courtesy of the Walt Disney World University.
A GED for my husband, and many more years of education eventually landed us in academia—with Ph.D.s from the University of Michigan we took professor jobs with U of M’s longstanding football rival, The Ohio State University.
Retired now from my role as a professor in social work and behavioral science, I have picked up a long-time interest in writing fiction. In my professional career I wrote and published widely as a scholar, with more than forty manuscripts of varying lengths on my vita. I also carried out hundreds of training, consulting and speaking engagements on a number of gloriously nerdy topics.
So what on earth does a research scientist have in common with a mystery writer? As avid fans of the mystery genre will tell you at the core of any good mystery is a passionate search for the truth. Discovering the truth involves finding and assembling pieces of complex puzzles in order to solve seemingly intractable problems—scientist and sleuth are cut from the same cloth!
Still married to the same sweet guy, I live with my husband in one of the seven desert resort cities in the Palm Springs area. In addition to reading and writing mysteries I enjoy painting, hiking, hanging out with my handsome husband and tending to my Siamese cats.
The Sonoran Desert is a beautiful setting to ponder life’s mysteries, by the surrounding mountains and the bountiful delights of the desert resort communities. I hope you enjoy reading the books in my three cozy mystery series: The Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery Series, The Corsario Cove Cozy Mystery Series, and the Georgie Shaw Cozy Mystery Series. Cheers! Anna
A Body on Fitzgerald's Bluff by Anna Celeste Burke was a great beginning to what I hope will be a long running series. Ms. Burke's descriptive writing had me want to move to Seaview Cottages and meet the residents. Each one of the senior women of the Grand Old Lady Detectives are vibrant, active and quirky as they bring their own special talents to discovering who murdered the victim. The swiftly paced plot kept me turning the pages.
I originally read this story in the Summer Snoops and Cozy Crimes anthology.
The Murder of Shakespeare's Ghost by Anna Celeste Burke is the second book in the Seaview Cottages Cozy Mystery series. I couldn't have been happier to sit down and read the afternoon away.
The ladies of G.O.L.D. and Charly's Angels are once again on the case as they investigate a spooky intruder at Shakespeare's Cottage. I love the banter and humor when Carl and Joe are with the ladies. The plot is quickly paced with just enough twists to keep me guessing and turning the pages. The characters are becoming well developed now and I really enjoy spending time with these likable ladies and gentlemen. I also enjoy Detective Hank Miller and hope to get to know more about him in the following books as it looks like there may be a romance brewing between him and Miriam. The reveal was intriguing and unexpected as there was so much more than just a murder involved in this story. This book will not disappoint cozy mystery fans.

I thoroughly enjoyed following the escapades of the Grand Old Lady Detectives and their cohorts Charly’s Angels, and Domino, a bright Dalmatian! All of these older and mostly retired ensemble characters have their own expertise which enables them to be successful in solving their cases. I appreciate that the main character is a widow from Ohio.
The second and third stories include sayings from the famous playwright, Shakespeare, and the famous author, Charles Dickens, that are featured in the titles. The sayings are germane to each chapter.
I am definitely looking forward to reading the next books in this series.
A Body On Fitzgerald's Bluff A delightful new series from the talented Anna Celeste Burke. The GOLD ladies and Charly's angels are a very interesting set of characters. They each bring a different set of talents to bear in solving crimes that makes them unstoppable as a group. Miriam is by far the youngest and most staid member of the group. The rest of the ladies are teaching her how to let loose and get more joy out of life. There are numerous suspects and plenty of twists and turns. Seaview Cottages are chock-full of quirky, eccentric characters who are sure to bring havoc and mysteries to the group for them to solve. I look forward to the next book in this series. I recommend all of this author's books.
The Murder of Shakespeare's Ghost Miriam, GO.L.D., and Charly's Angels are back in the 2nd book of the series. This time they are trying to figure out what is going on in Shakespeare's Cottage since Robyn insists there is a ghostly intruder. It was fun catching up with my favorite geriatric sleuths.
Once again Anna Celeste Burke has written a terrific book. The Murder of Shakespeare's Ghost has plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. I had figured out part of what was going on but I didn't figure out the entire convoluted mess. It was interesting to see how all the parts fit together and led to "murder most foul."
Grave Expectations on Dickens' Dune Another winner for Anna Celeste Burke! Miriam and the gang are back in the third book of the Seaview Cottages Cozy Mystery series. There are several mysteries in this book: What happened to Allen Rogow in Vietnam? Was he murdered and buried on Dickens' Dune several years after his return? Who did Jimmy Dunn work for and is Miriam in danger? The twists and turns will keep you guessing "whodunit" until the end.
I love the way each member of GOLD has a unique background/strength that complements the rest of the group and makes them so much more capable when they work together. Even Charly's Angels have their own unique niche to fill. I truly enjoy books where the characters are middle-aged and beyond and show that people can still be productive regardless of age.
If you enjoy books with likable, competent characters, an engaging plot that keeps you turning the pages, an interesting mystery, humor, and a touch of romance, then I urge you to read Grave Expectations On Dickens' Dune.
This series has an awesome cast of Grand Old Lady Detectives (GOLD). These ladies are very sharp and have a wide variety of skills. I love them all. They captured my attention on the first page and kept it until the end. In A Body on Fitzgerald's Bluff a body is discovered and then vanishes before police can be called. The Murder of Shakespeare's Ghost is a fast paced, witty, well written mystery. In Grave Expectations on Dickens' Dune a death bed confession that a body was buried on Dicken's Dune some forty years in the past has Miriam, the Grand Old Lady Detectives, & Charly’s Angels once again embroiled in an investigation. There are always many suspects, and several possible motives. Everything is brought to a satisfactory conclusion. You do not want to miss this fascinating series of mysteries.
Book 1 Retirement village with a new resident Miriam and her dog, of which finds a body. The women G.O.L.D are sharp, and determined to solve. For deputy Devers they are a thorn to him. A good beginning with these senior helping solve the crimes, Good plot, and one has to chuckle with the antics of these seniors, enjoyable to read. Book 2 Robyn calls saying she is locked in the bedroom and Shakespeare ghost was in the hallway. The G O L D ladies are on it, to find a dead ghost. To make matters worse they have to call in the detective because of it.The characters are good. They is a lot of twist, and humor along the way, and enjoyable to read. Delightful series, enjoy all of her books
From book 1 to book 3, totally captivated by these books. Loved the premise of elderly detectives actually being able to use their life-long skills to solve crimes. All the characters are well-drawn, lovable ---- or not! And makes me want to move into one of their cottages; and I would not have to lie about my age, either! I was so happy to see recipes at the end of the books, although some of the dishes Miriam had brought to share with her fellow detectives, sounded so darn good I actually looked up some recipes on line! Again, great reads, great stories, great characters, and do read them, you will not be disappointed! Aloha
. . . an enterprising and indomitable group of 50+ residents of the Seaview Cottages complex. Murder, mayhem, ghosts, and counterfeiters are their stock in trade as they press their considerable and varied talents to the solving of crimes and the downfall of villains. With Miriam, Neely, Charly, Joe, Carl and Domino on the case the villains don't have a chance!
Burke has created an entertaining cast of characters you simply won't get enough of, and she writes them into all manner of feats of derring-do. You'll love this series, I promise!
If I'd picked these up individually, I would not have gone for more after the first one. The writing didn't come together for me and it ended on a hook. The next two do also, although the third is less blatant. Second and third are lacking in character, relying on the first for what little there is. I could barely keep the friends straight by the end. The mysteries pushed credibility also.
I love reading mysteries with senior citizens as sleuths. This is one of them. Miriam lives in an "adult" housing complex called Seaview Cottages. When she and her dog,Domino stumble on a body and it just disappears , is where the fun and mystery begin. She decides to find the murderer with her crew "the grand old lady detectives" . This is such a fun story. The characters work well together. If you like to read a fun story with mystery, then this is it ! I certainly recommend it to everyone !
Miriam Webster lives in one of several cute cottages in Seaview that are named after classic authors. She and several of her neighbors start the Grand Ole Lady Detective agency known as GOLD. They get hired to solve mysteries and work with the local police agency as well. Their adventures are fun and exciting and I really enjoyed reading this box set!
I had already read the first one, so adding the second and third books in this series was a joy. I like all the characters in this series—they are fun and full of life! Can’t wait to read more.
Well written with dashes of suspense. I enjoyed the stories and loved the cast of characters. I'd love to visit the area in the stories, just to soak up the ambience.
I couldn't put down my Kindle until I read all three mystery books. Characters are believable and all three books are enjoyable. New author for me, but looking forward to reading more of books.
I binge-read this series. I loved it. Each story was better than the one before. Miriam and her GOLD friends go out sleuthing and solving old mysteries around their retirement village. Their antics are delightful, and the recipes are amazing! I'm ready for more...
I love murder mysteries and cooking 😊, so these books had me totally hooked with both: the plots and the food. They were read reading for my summer vacation.
