Alpha wolf shifter Hugo left his pack in hopes of creating a family of his own. Along with his brothers, they search for a new territory together where they can all live in peace. Despite Hugo’s young age, his instincts are strong. He knows there’s a better future out there for him—and his potential mate. The only problem is finding him.
When Hugo’s instincts lead him to saving a wild hare from the jaws of a fellow shifter, Hugo suspects it’s his fated mate. But can predator and prey truly be fated?
A hare banished for being different.
With his patchwork fur and strange habits, omega hare Len has never fit in. Since he was young, the warren has never truly accepted him. But when a fox attack is unfairly blamed on Len, he’s banished from the warren forever.
When Hugo offers Len a place with the wolves on their journey, Len has no choice but to agree. Being a hare among wolves is strange enough, but when Len feels a spark with Hugo, he doubts his own emotions.
Because a wolf and a hare are too different to be together… Right?
Fated: Wolf and the Hare is a 47,000 word book with plenty of fluffy and steamy scenes, mpreg, low angst, no cliffhangers and a HEA as usual! It is the first in the Pack of Brothers series.
Hawke is a M/M author who loves the world of MPREG and shifters. In his spare time he enjoys hiking with his dog, hanging out with his boyfriend, and playing video games.
A very sweet and fluffy tale of a wolf and a hare who turn out to be fated mates! Also an interesting take of shifters as these guys shift with their clothes so they doen't end up naked pr splitting their clothes when the shift. I really enjoyed this a lot! I dropped one star because there were a decent number of mispelled words that a spellchecker would not catch but a proofreader would. Not enough to be terribly annoying but hey even if the author could not afford to pay a proofreader/editor they should have been able to find some friends or readers to proof the book!
I've fallen deeper into the bottomless hole of m-m romance.
This story is about 2 shifters who are fated mates and make a life together despite being prey and predator. Hugo is such a sweet alpha wolf and Len is a cute, gentle bunny hare!
The author creates a fantastical world where shifters choose to live in their animal forms in the wild. There is an unspoken law that shifters don't eat other shifters, but that's really their extent of civilization. When Len gets kicked out of his warren, he joins Hugo's small pack of wolves on the search for a territory of their own. As they adventure together, you get to see their sweet attentiveness to each other and their relationship blossom.
There were a few strange and unexplained aspects in this world. Like how they all wear clothes in their human forms even though they all live in the wild. Or how they're familiar with Ikea and loud cities. It made more sense that Len didn't know how to read; he's lived in a forrest his whole life, why would he need to? This is also the first mpreg book I read, so that's just something I personally had trouble wrapping my mind around.
I would recommend this book to anyone that doesn't have trouble with the above.
Not going to lie. I had a hankering for some rabbit omegaverse action. This did nicely. Typical omegaverse romance featuring a wolf pack of 'wild' shifters- meaning they live in the woods and randomly generate clothes. I had to turn my head more than once to common sense and logic, but its omegaverse. It's meant to be fantastical. The pairing of a hare and wolf shifter totally hit my sweet spot and the build up to the heat crazed mating was goooood. Also Sage's puns were awesome and I will be reading his book!
The writing style felt childlike and unpolished, the dialogues cheesy and unnatural, and I just couldn't connect with the story. I didn't much care about anything that happened. And just about everything in this book is littered with inconsistencies: the characters' personalities and actions, the plotlines, the world building.
I'm always looking for books with interesting shifter species, and I like what I think was the general idea of this story. But this feels like a first try sketch more like a finished project.
3.5 ⭐️ This was very cute and I’m excited to continue the series. Hawke Oakley is becoming one of my of my favorite authors of omegaverse stories, and I just love all the cute details they add to their stories to make both the humans, but also their shifted versions come to life. If you love omegaverse, shifters, found family and opposite attracts, this is a series for you!
Not really sure what everybody else is reading for this has four stars. It was a complete lack of detail in this book. It read more like a short story. ****Spoilers**** I could not even gain an accurate picture in my mind to imagine the the setting they were in! So they're on a journey to claim a territory but they're wild so no human conveniences, I'm assuming, so they're just traveling with no camping gear no nothing but they have clothes? Where the frack did the clothes come from? Did they scavenge them somewhere? And they need to read but they're not interacting with humans at all? Like how did they even learn to read and why would they need to? And I'm all for authors taking free license when it comes to the rules of shifter world or vampire worlds etc however this book follows nothing! You have a group of wolves say they are a pack but one of their pack members disappears in the middle of the storm doesn't come back for days and the alpha does not give one giant shit? The alpha complains about Clint another wolf that pushed someone off the territory but had every intention of doing the same damn thing because he had more wolves?
The only reason I finished this book is because I started it at the beginning of a trip in a car on the turnpike so I was driving 70+ miles an hour and I could not switch the book because I was driving. So I was forced to listen to whatever THIS was for 3 hours. So that would be my harshness a little explained.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
It's not horrible and you can read it just fine, but it was not that interesting, either.
I was into the idea of a prey/predator shifter romance, seemed like a funny story and thought: why not? I guess I will have to look for another one because this just didn't do it for me.
There are stories that feel realistic and well developed. Serious. And there are other stories, like this one for me, that give a surreal kind of vibe. Everything is too easy, too plain, too forced. It's not boring per se, but it doesn't get you hooked, either.
I didn't feel love between the main characters. It happens sometimes when it's based of fate, but even when the start of the relationship is that supposed pull both of them feel, I need things to feel real for them afterwards. For them to happen something more as just fate between them.
Here we just have 3 wolf shifter brothers looking for somewhere to establish their new pack, find their mates and have babies. And for real that Hugo was more interested on impregnating Len that having just sex with him during their first encounter. THE FIRST! Slow down, man.
Even now after having finished it I can't really tell you what happened, because apart from the 4 of them traveling and encountering some shifters... there's not much going on. There's no worldbuilding and there are some weird things about these shifters (I mean, they are wild shifters that don't live among humans but not only wear clothes, but them also stay put when shifting LOL Do not change their clothes? If they are wild, the logical thing would be for them to be used to nudeness... right?).
When I began reading the First book of the Pack of Brothers series I wasn't sure if I liked it. It seemed a bit juvenile, but I persisted and then the story started to grow on me. I began to feel for the characters, to care what happened to them. I realized that the author was actually good at the development of characters. The book had characters you could like, be annoyed by, and whose behavior was incredulous. Ones that made you laugh as, as well as sinister and villainous ones.
The majority of the characters are shifters, but there natural animals and a human. Three Wolf shifters brothers are seeking a place of their own. Hoping to meet their mates and settle down but not in a city. They are traveling through the wilderness. Forest, dense wooded areas, arid rocky terrains. It's enlightening and interesting how the various types of shifters react to the different landscapes.
In this story one of the brothers finds his fated mate who turns out to be a Hare. I enjoy reading about the dynamics of mixed matings. While the three Wolf brothers voluntarily left their Birth pack, the Hare was banished from the only home / warren he'd ever known. It was a very traumatic experience, especially with a variety of predators in the vicinity. And the reasons why the Hare was banished left an array of questions and great deal of distress.
Once I finished this book I couldn't wait to begin the Second book in the series. My favorite character was Sage. Wait until you read about his pets.
It's a low angst book but there's too much time spend as animals in fact Len even gives birth (off page) as an animal. ♦Story- 3.2⭐, Characters- 4.5⭐, Sex- 4⭐, Epilogue- 3.2⭐
That's why it felt very weird to read the sex scenes which were thankfully as humans bcuz apart from that, they barely spent time as humans. So it felt like im reading furry p0rn or something like that. Did not like that at all.
i have read shifter romances, but there, being the animals are a very minor part of the story and happens just once. But here the reverse is true. It’s an animal story basically. In fact they spent so much time as animals that i had to simply imagine humans wearing fur clothes. 💀
But the characters were very likeable i felt the brothers were very close to each other and loved how they welcomed Len & Remmy into their pack. They were endearing and i got very invested in all of them. But bcuz of the whole animal stuff, i’ll probably never read their stories.
There are 3 sex scenes. At 34% Heat sex with good foreplay and a mating bite. Very responsive receiver, well they both were. Hawke writes good sex! It also has preg sex. 👀
♦Also absolutely hated how Len was treated by his animal kind. i’m so glad he got picked by the wolf brothers.
📒Tropes & tags: •Wolf x hare, •found family, •shifter, •mpreg, •cuddling, •nuzzling, •nose boops, •adopting a young wolf, •low angst, •1st person dual pov.
Not the first predator/prey fated mates book I've read, and certainly not the most well done, but it was very enjoyable.
Kinda confusing though. At any given point it's hard to keep track of when they are shifted because the dialogue structure is the same and their mannerisms are the same not matter which form. I did enjoy that shifters could all speak to each other even in animal form.
Some issues were more annoying than others though. Red for big example. Why did he keep popping up? If he was going to be a continuous character maybe making him kind of a psychopath wasn't the best choice? Like eating what is essentially a person and not feeling bad about that at all? It kind of seemed like he was extra excited about the prospect of eating a fellow shifter. If he was starving that would be one thing, but the author made it clear he wasnt. He was just a sociopathic sorta cannibal. Then he just pops back up like nothing and disappears again. Either make him less monstery or don't bring him back. It was just off putting.
This story wasn't amazing or anything, but it was interesting and kept me entertained even if some parts were just not good. Id read more in the series though, and I think that says the most about this book.
This is the first book I've read by Hawke Oakley and the absolutely loved it. Len is an Omega misfit hare shifter in a warren that bullies him. Hugo is an Alpha wolf shifter traveling with his two brothers, looking for a territory of their own and their fated mates. When Hugo saves Len from a fox attack they share an instant connection and, after getting blamed for the attack and kicked out of his home for being "different", Len joins the pack in their search and along the way discovers that he and Hugo are fated mates. There's a great sense of family in this book. They support each other and no one acts better than another. There's also adventure and meeting other shifters before they find the place they choose go call home. I was completely riveted to this story - the world building and character development are spot on. I'm really excited to read the next book in this series and absolutely recommend it!
This was so silly. (Also an unexpextedly cute story.) Like, why do they shift with clothes? Why would animal people be embarrassed by nakedness? Is the shifting process like a magical washing machine and they always have fresh clothes when they turn human? I enjoy the arbitrary application of logic, there's creativity in it. (Maybe it's all genre conventions, what do I know?)
I'm new to omegaverse stories (except for some weird mangas I happened upon back in the day...and let's not rant about those here~). Everytime there's something about knots, I giggle. And giggling is a lot of fun.
What a stunning first book in a new series! The characters leapt off the pages and pulled me into their lives. Their world is vibrant and comes alive with each turn of the page. There is lots of action, betrayal, unexpected Fated mates, compassion and brotherly love. You will love this book! This story follows brothers Hugo, Dax and Sage as they seek territory for their small pack. After saving a hare shifter, Len, from a fox shifter, Hugo's wolf knows he has found his fated mate! By the time their journey to HEA ends, their pack has grown, found their home, and defended their territory. Ooh, did I mention babies? I can't wait to read the next book. This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
well this was a silly little read ig. i was tempted to dnf at around 37% tbf bc the MCs already proclaimed their love for each other & became mates by that point without even really knowing much about the other.. it was just way too insta love/lust for me. it was also too goofy imo but ig it could be considered a quick lighthearted read. i'm not sure how much i resonated with the "wildness" of these shifters but it was certainly an intriguing concept to read about; of how much the MCs embraced their animal side more than their human. anyhow, ig i'm glad i ended up finishing this book tho i also must add i skimmed a lot too..
I liked the unique pairing in this story (a Hare and a Wolf) but I also found moments that felt contradictory to me. Like at the beginning I'm still not sure what was going on with the warren. It was a chaotic mess and Len talks about not shifting often but later in the story he says it is hard to not shift often. I think a good editor should have caught that but other than that it was a cute shifter MPREG story.
I'm curious about this world. These "wild" shifters who act more like animal than people is unique. I feel like more information about this world would be interesting. I hope this author writes a zootopia-esque pairing next with a fox and a bunny!
Len is an omega hare shifter, who's never quite fit in with his warren. Hugo is an alpha wolf shifter, who leaves his pack, along with his alpha older brother and omega younger brother, to form his own pack and find his fated mate.
It's the typical outcast finds love and acceptance with a new group trope. It's a pretty rapid descent from just met to shagging like bunnies (yes, I went there) and the mpreg. This is something you read to unwind and not think too terribly hard. Sweet and cute. Glaring typos or other editing errors. Light on the plot, but these types of stories usually are.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This charming and tender story of Hugo, the determined alpha wolf, and Len, the outcast omega hare, is a heartwarming start to the Pack of Brothers series. Hugo’s unwavering belief in his instincts and his gentle patience with Len as they navigate their unlikely pairing makes the emotional connection between predator and prey feel genuine and inevitable. Len’s struggle with rejection and self-worth adds depth, making his journey to trust Hugo’s love all the more satisfying. The story balances sweetness with just the right touch of vulnerability, making their HEA feel well-earned and delightfully cozy.
No this wasn't remotely the worst thing I've ever read but I had a terrible time trying to get into it. For so many things to be happening and it to be a shorter book, it just dragged and I felt like I'd never finish it. I've never read a shifter book where they spend more than half their time as animals so that was interesting. I do wish the author would have described their human appearance as much as they described the way they looked as animals. I don't know if this is a series I really want to continue reading but maybe they get better.
It’s a first shapeshifter romance for me with bunnies. Sorry, hare :)
An interesting plot about finding your mate who is total opposite to you. Wolf and hare, wow.
For me, it would be better if their love wasn’t instant. I wanted prolonged courting and bonding. I want to see them to really know each other before claiming. Not just feeling that it’s right, it’s meant to be.
There’s Mpreg here (for those who like me doesn’t read blurb before reading the book).
Liked side characters all well, especially Remington and Red. Maaaybe in future I’d like to read their stories too.
3.5⭐️ rounded up to 4 (for the sweetness, fluff and their acceptance of those who was left alone)
This was what I needed at the time a simple sweet romance between shifters but as with a lot of these type of books it was predictable. I did however enjoy the slightly different take on these being wild shifters who lived off the land switching between their forms.
Would have enjoyed more if it had been a little longer with more world building as it did feel rather rushed. Overall a simple easy read and I will continue the series.
This book made me think about a tv show I watched as a kid; The Animals of Farthing Wood. I would decribe this book as a soft shifter story about starting a pack (2 Alpha's Wolfs and 1 Omega Wolf are family) and finding a mate. It is quick insta-love but also about accepting who you are and being a part of a family no matter what kind of Shifter you are. On the way they meet a cute Hare, an irritating Fox and another lone Wolf.
This was an interesting shifter world. I’m still on the fence in rather it worked for me. This was a fated mates story. That moved quickly. I guess as they say things move quick when you are a hare, this was very much insta love. This is a story where the shifters live more in their animal states. Meaning they hunt for food live in dens instead of houses, very much nature driven. The writing was ok. The story was ok and the smexy was...rushed?
Rating: 3.5 stars I liked this first book in the series. I loved both of the MCs. I loved dynamic between all the characters. I just think the author could have done a better job of painting the world these shifters lived in. I know they lived in the wild but did they have any buildings. Did they live completely out in the open or in caves? I’m not really sure. Other than that I did enjoy the book and will read more in the series.
A lovely shifter book where a hare meets a small pack of wolves and finds a fated mate. I loved Len, the hare shifter and it was sweet to see the wolf Hugo bending over backwards to please his little mate. I really enjoyed that they all could talk to each other in animal form and I'm really curious about the sneaky fox Red.
A hare and a wolf, oh my! I loved this low angst, happy, furry, thumping and a feel good story filled with warm fuzzies. This a great start of a new series and can't wait to read the next book. Who will find their mate and how????
This was certainly an interesting start to a series. I like the concept of predator/prey fated mates, but this was almost too insta-lovey for me. I can tell that this is going to be a unique pack of shifters going forward. Very little conflict made for a steady plot line with a lot of character development. We'll see what happens with Dax.
