This book introduces the number line and how to read it. It makes it very understandable and relatable by discussing a rocket launching walking down stairs. The rockets is a good example because it counts down from its launch to assure it is on time and them counts up after it has left to see how long it is up. This association is effective for positive and negative numbers. Students will be able to read the number line and realize that negative numbers have less value than positive number. For example, negative one (-1) is less than zero (0). This book also introduces and teaches a game to play to practice the relationship of positive and negative when adding and subtracting. The game is like playing hop shot sitting done with two players. Get the book to see how to play.
This book helps to teach about negative and positive numbers. The only part of the book I was particularly fond of is the title. I thought it was quite clever.
