Ranch Rules

Rate this book
On this ranch, naughty girls get spanked.

Natalie has always pushed herself to the point of exhaustion, but things come to a head when the twenty-nine-year-old lawyer makes a mistake that costs her firm one of its most valuable clients. Her bosses arrange for Natalie to spend some time on a working ranch, hoping it will clear her mind, but upon her arrival she quickly discovers that this is no ordinary vacation destination.

This ranch has strict rules, and those rules are enforced by firm-handed cowboys like Thomas who will not hesitate to bare Natalie's bottom and spank her very soundly for any disobedience.

Cowboys who make their women call them daddy.

Though being taken over a man's knee like a naughty little girl leaves Natalie's cheeks blushing and stained with tears, her quivering thighs are soon wet and glistening for an entirely different reason. It isn't long before she is screaming her new daddy's name as he claims her hard and thoroughly, but when her stay at the ranch ends will it mean saying goodbye to Thomas forever?

Publisher's Note: Ranch Rules is a stand-alone novel which is the second entry in the Old-Fashioned Cowboys series. It includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

This was a big fat DNF for me fairly early on. I mean I knew the heroine was going to end up unwittingly at a Domestic Discipline ranch, but this one slid into the absolute unbelievable within the first few chapters.

Our heroine is a hard working lawyer who messes up and gets sent to a ranch by her 'kind' bosses. Now if any of said bosses had the slightest idea of what the ranch was all about then they were on a one way ticket to a sexual harassment charge and probably a whole lot more as well.

Then because a very confused woman, having NO IDEA that she was at ranch for being spanked if she was 'naughty', walked off from our hero, he and his boss decided she needed an immediate spanking. Even though she reminded them she hadn't consented to anything. Even though they hadn't really spoken more than a few sentences to her.

Our big badass lawyer then lost the ability to argue and complied with the spanking, including a bare bottomed one. The lawyer who could and should be threatening to sue their asses for every penny, since their refusal to let her leave was essentially kidnapping and the non-consensual spanking was abuse.

I'm ok with dub-con and non-con in a dark book, but this is claiming to be a pleasant 'spanking' romance. I love BDSM and kinky reads but, unless it is dark, consent is essential for me. There are no negotiations on that front.

I stopped reading at this point because I am not interested in a man who takes on a Dom role without consent and a heroine who didn't even threaten to sue them before folding like a bad hand of cards.

This book was flat-out awful. Where to begin?

1) In a fairly realistic book that takes place in the contemporary US and in the age of MeToo, a law firm sends their female employee to a "discipline" ranch without informing her of the "discipline" part;

2) One of the employees at the ranch, Thomas, spanks Natalie without her consent and before she signs a contract;

3) Natalie, a trained lawyer, never once threatens either the ranch or the law firm with any legal action (for which she had evidence in spades), nor do these lawyers and business owners evince any concern that she might;

4) Thomas and Nate insist that Natalie didn't sign the contract under "duress," but, in fact, she did since otherwise she would have lost her job at the law firm. Because this is the second book in this series and, thus, it's no longer believable that the men there don't know that many women go there ill-informed of what actually goes on, I have to wonder if this author even bothers to read her own books;

5) Thomas straps Natalie despite that the fact that it's too much for her; though he comforts her first to "help" her through it, he still does it even though it's clear that she was overwhelmed. Thus, he's yet another H who cares more about punishment than about the emotional health of his h;

6) In a fairly realistic book set in the contemporary US, Thomas keeps Natalie bare-bottomed over his lap in his car and lets a policeman see her. Though the policeman asks if she's okay, this scenario -- and the fact that Natalie doesn't blame Thomas for this humiliation -- strains all and any credulity. Let's hope that policeman never has to give expert testimony in any case she's on;

7) Thomas is yet another in a long, long, long line of H's who promise they'll never "hurt" their h's, and then proceeds to strap, paddle, whip, and switch them, even when it's clear their h's can't take any more. I'll also add that he does all this despite the fact that Natalie is actually pretty likeable: she's not a brat or a bully, and she makes human mistakes rather than do anything "wrong;"

8) That Natalie falls in love with a man who shows her no consideration, beats her, and constantly publicly humiliates her is due only to the magic of fiction and not to any plausibility.

If any of the above are your fantasies, go for it.

One star.

ETA: To all the many, many, many reviewers who consistently warn potential readers about some version of: "If you're offended by sexual scenes, kink, BDSM, DD, and/or spanking as discipline [fill in the blank], this book isn't for you," many of us aren't offended by these. What we are offended by is non-consent in books that don't include that warning in their blurb. And for those of you who refer to BDSM and/or DD in books that don't contain consent, then educate yourself on what these practices actually are. I get that these are fantasies, but you don't have the right to misrepresent long-standing, codified practices that real people in the real world engage in. I realize I sound cranky, but it's because I also realize that this is a losing battle.

The short version of the above: If you love BDSM and/or DD, you will NOT like this book because the h is forced into them against her will. It's really as simple as that.

Avoid this book if you were drawn to it because you thought it would satisfy any of these interests: spanking, daddy-dom, age-play, romance. Avoid this book if you're interested in character development. You will only see a character stripped of her dignity. People who should read this book: misogynists who want to see a woman, "put in her place."

The female from the start of the story should be starting her own firm by the end of the story, to sue the pants off her former employer. But, she's not, despite the fact the old-boys-club she works for sends her to, "Discipline Ranch," making it clear she's fired should she choose not to be spanked. Spanked, humiliated, belittled, paraded nude in front of other guests and the police... yeah... it's really really bad.

Still reading this review? You don't need to be polite - time to pick another book! Really!

Natalie, "falls in love," (stockholm-style) with the daddy-for-hire assigned to her at the ranch. He is a sex worker. He has no scruples about telling her she's hot when she says she's falling in love with him. Blah blah she deserves to be spanked blah blah she's special blah blah suck his dick.

Best part of the book: there is a really cute trip to a fair. That's the star in my rating. JK I had to give it a star so I could WARN you, reader!

Then, the end. Natalie's daddy-for-hire is done being paid by her firm, and tells her to, "hurry back to work!" This is sad, but girlfriend... we know it's realistic. We feel sad for her, because we know she's about to realize she was right all along, and, "daddy," was playing her for a fool for money.

NOPE! Natalie is in DENIAL. She just goes back to work for the creeps. She isn't heart-broken, she isn't furious with herself for falling in love with a con man, she isn't outraged at the firm for treating her in such a nauseatingly sexist manner. Nothing. She feels nothing.

Author has betrayed Natalie. Author has betrayed US.

Then the book ends.

JUST KIDDING! It gets WORSE. Natalie walks out of work at the end of the sexist workday, and daddy-for-hire is waiting at her car to surprise her. Is he visiting between sex clients at the ranch? Is he moving in with her, to boss her around and spank her for daring to think for herself during the few hours she's not working? Hmmm.... I wonder what he will end up doing, while she's at work for endless hours, supporting both of them.

THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN: Don't worry... there's an epilogue where daddy gives up the sex trade, opens a restaurant so he's not living off the money from Natalie's soul-crushing job, and cheers her on while she sues the pants off that firm. Go, Natalie! JUST KIDDING THERE IS NO EPILOGUE THE STORY ENDS WITH THE JOBLESS DADDY IN THE PARKING LOT.

The book really ends. Natalie starts the book as a relatable character: an over-stressed woman, working twice as hard for half as much in an environment which is blatantly sexist. Go, Natalie! Get out of that situation! We're cheering for her. We want better for her. We ARE her.

At the end of the story, Natalie has been reduced to a shell of her former self. She's back at the same job with the same stress, but now instead of getting a rest at night, she's serving as a sexual/financial doormat to a deadbeat cowboy. WHAT? I want my TIME back!

Absolutely not!

I am an avid reader of D/s and DD/lg fiction and this one just crosses the line. The foundation of the lifestyle is CONSENT! I couldn’t get past the first 20 minutes she was at the ranch. She has no idea the type of ranch but gets her a** blistered not 10 minutes after arriving because she didn’t behave in a way he liked. Discipline is administered as trust is built between the dom and sub. How could you ever trust a man for punishing you for rules you were never told. I’m good with rough doms, but this was abuse, full stop. I won’t finish, I was getting physically stressed out reading because I know what he was doing was not okay. I won’t be reading this author again, she clearly doesn’t know enough about the lifestyle.

I had a hard time finishing this book. I like spanking and d/s books, even books with daddy/littles but this one just didn't do it for me. The fact that she doesn't question why the branch is called Discipline Ranch, the fact that they decided she needed spanking and even though she reminds them that she didnt sign the contract and shouldn't be held to the rules in them she gets spanked anyway. The fact that her boss has no desire to listen to her concerns and instead threatens her job if she leaves early and she goes back to that job instead of questioning if that was a job that was good for her and if he bosses really cared about her at all. This book just didnt make me want to finish it.

Should have read the reviews beforehand or given up and not bothered with it at all.

So many things wrong and so many lines crossed
- thomas spanks her before explaining anything to her
- her bosses essentially say she’s got to go on vacation to a discipline ranch or loose her job, despite working hard and going above and beyond. Never would have happened to a male employee. Just not right on so many levels.
- she never argues with her bosses or threatens them despite being this high achieving lawyer.
- she never threatens the ranch with any legal issues again despite before forced to be there.
- Thomas says he would never hurt her but takes any and all punishments/spanking far to far. Even continuing after she was hysterical
- if someone is that hysterical, cried that much and was in that much pain there’s no way they would be able to function let alone have a decent conversation…
- goes from hating him to calling him daddy and loving him so quick it’s untrue
- she had a moment of clarity (yay 🥳) around the 65% mark but that is quickly followed by backtracking and becoming a doormat again…..
- the whole thing with the police officer, erm yeah…..

And finally the ending, nothing is solved, she goes right back to the god forsake company and no plans are made as to how they are going to stay together 😒

This book is written well enough but is totally uninspiring. It has the typical cowboy tropes, leaves the g off words ending ing, says wanna, s’spect etc. This woman goes to a place called Discipline Ranch and she doesn’t question it? It doesn’t occur to either Natalie or Thomas to ask about birth control or STDs. After all Thomas has been an advisor for some time so must have come across a fair number of women and he knows nothing much about her. The HEA is so predictable it reminds me of romance books girls read at sixteen. I used to quite like this author but have found her books to be so very, very much the same.

When you read these type of books, there are things to be expected - limited plot, lots of steamy scenes, lots of kink, predictability. I hope that the book doesn't fall into same snare (I, mean than is why I read some of them), but they still do. This seemed like it was heading in the right direction, but then then about half way through the FMC just falls into the trap of insta-love and starts doing stupid stuff which leads to her getting into trouble which, of course, requires her needing rescuing. It's like these girls lose their ever-loving minds and turn into idiots. This one surprised me, though by throwing in Daddy/little elements into it, though.
Natalie is a lawyer, so she's a smart woman and came to the ranch knowing she had almost no gas. So when she leaves the ranch and can't figure out why her car died??? Ahhh, blonde moment!!! It's a brand-new Spyder car and what it does has an empty gas light?? These girls. Why does she never think that Thomas sleep or be with his other clients. Why would him just showing up at her work make everything better?? She work 75 hour weeks. I really didn't get the ending. Is him just being going to make everything better?? It's all so cliche. So this is a take it or leave it book for me

Nice book

It was a good read but I had a hard time trying to fit the character and what she did for a living together into it. She's a high priced lawyer and he works on a ranch. She falls into the relationship and what comes with it so fast it made it seem a little unreal. But, just because I can't imagine it, doesn't mean that it wasn't good because it was.

Quick Summary
Hard work and no play has made Natalie an uptight and stressed out workaholic. When her tunnel vision causes her to miss a key component on the job, resulting in the loss of a major client, the higher ups issue her a mandatory stay at Discipline Ranch.

Although not her first choice, Natalie goes with it, how hard could a dude ranch be, right?

Except Discipline Ranch isn’t your typical resort and the cowboys here are more hands on than Natalie could have ever imagined!

🖤 ~ My Thoughts ~ 🖤
Lol! I love the opposites attract trope and it’s definitely present between buttoned down Natalie and stern Daddy Dom cowboy, Thomas.

Discipline Ranch is definitely becoming a memorable and favorite destination for this reader. I love the characters, the DD/lg elements and of course, the romance that always blossoms between the MCs. Ranch Rules has a ton of hot chemistry, sassy banter and was free of OW/OM drama (always a plus!) I want to say it was 100% safe but

I did wonder how the author was going to clear up the story of how Natalie’s bosses don’t really know much about Discipline Ranch and sort of book her stay without really knowing about the spanking and other extras that go on. For a lawyer to sort of take that lying down seemed a bit odd, tbh. I did have to suspend my disbelief for a moment there but otherwise this was a pretty awesome read. Would definitely recommend!

Heat Level: 5/5

Natalie is a go getter and a workaholic. Problem is she pushed herself to the point of exhaustion and she makes a mistake and that cost her firm a valuable client. Her bosses decide that she needs to spend some time on a working ranch, should help her clear her mind. Wow, she discovers when she gets there that it's no ordinary vacation. Thomas will be the ranch hand that will make sure Natalie follows the strict rules and he will be happy to enforce those rules with a firm hand. The women that are sent there call their handlers Daddy. This story has spankings and sexual scenes. What is she going to do about Thomas when it's time to say goodbye? Highly recommend if you like this gender of a story. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Natalie's entire life has been study and work. Her life as a lawyer consumes her. Then she makes a mistake, a huge mistake. Her boss sends her to Discipline Ranch on a "vacation". Once she's there she realizes that Nate and Thomas run the ranch and the word discipline is in the name for a reason. She can't leave, her job depends on it. Before long she's calling Thomas daddy and wishing she never had to leave. This is a really good DDLG romance.

Old-Fashioned Cowboys Tome 2

Thomas / Natalie
Daddy / petite fille

📖

DISCIPLINE RANCH AND THE ATTORNEY

While the story is the second for Discipline Ranch, it could read well as a stand-alone. Junior Partner at the prestigious law firm of Briggs & Spric, Natalie Winthrop, will make a flaw in a contract and lose a significant account for the firm. It is decided by her boss, Mr. Dawson, that she needs to go for a week's stay at a ranch, and she will be sent on her way immediately.

The story plot includes a smart woman, an attorney, who is graduated at the top of her class, being coerced into going to Discipline Ranch for a week. During the stay, she displays lots of attitudes and will be spanked multiple times, which will include non-consensual and dubious consent. It will also have several explicit sex scenes, other forms of discipline, and age play.

“I don’t suppose staying is an option?” –Natalie

“Of course, you can stay. Your room has been paid for. But you would need to read our contract and sign it first.” –Thomas

“I don’t suppose you’d be willing to, ah--tell my boss I was here for the entire stay? If he asked, I mean? I guess not. Well—in that case, I guess I don’t have much choice. You know, you lose points where contracts are signed under duress.” –Natalie

“No one had ever made her feel so transparent. Not until Thomas.”

The story is somewhat an insta-love, daddy-dom/little girl tale with plenty of discipline and sex scenes. Natalie has no life beyond work and contracts. She leaves after a long day of work to go home with a glass of wine pouring over more contracts. Thomas will not only show her discipline and correct her; he shows her there is more to life than work. Thomas takes her to the fair, allowing her little to come out and then showing her that there is more in life than work and no play.

“The feeling of bein’ loved and cared for. Bein’ safe. Tell me something, Natalie. You’re a grown woman who has a full-time, high-powered job. When was the last time you were able to come home at the end of a long day, a long week, and just relax, knowin’ you were taken care of? That home was a place you could just rest and be without havin’ to be the one who controlled every single second? Everyone deserves a place to feel safe, a person that makes them feel loved. And while there are rules and expectations for both Daddy and little, that’s what it’s all about.”

What will happen when Natalie’s week at Discipline Ranch ends, and she returns to her life back at the law firm? Did Mr. Dawson know what kind of ranch he was sending her to? Is this the end of Natalie and Thomas---how can an attorney and cowboy make things work?

Natalie is a junior partner at a law firm. She is doing well, but she lost a client of the firm. The senior partners decide that she needs a vacation and insist that she goes to a ranch where they have made the arrangements. When Natalie gets there, she discovers the name of the ranch is Discipline Ranch and that's what it is. She starts off on the wrong foot by insisting on having the wi-fi password. When she goes to the owner, Nate, everything falls apart. He explains that at this ranch she will be disciplined when they feel it is necessary. Natalie insists on leaving, but Thomas insists that she will be spanked before that happens. He spanks her, she finds out that her firm wants her to stay and then she signs the paperwork agreeing to be disciplined. Thomas is very appealing to her and they quickly start a relationship. I understand that this is fantasy, but this was a little far-fetched, even to me! Otherwise, the story was good and the discipline scenes are many and well written.

Natalie is a workaholic lawyer who is always on the go with no down time or hobbies. After a huge mistake, her boss sends her on a vacation that she really does not want to take. Thomas is her liason at the ranch where she ends up. There is interest from the beginning but Natalie has a very hard time letting down her walls. Your heart will break for her as she learns to let go and just enjoy life. Thomas is a strong dominate Alpha male who is fair but firm. The interactions between these two will leave you wanting for more.

I read this book all in one sitting and gave myself a book hangover, I just couldn't put it down.

Natalie is a dedicated lawyer who works hard for her law firm. When she makes a big mistake that costs the firm a valuable client, her bosses arrange for her to go on a vacation to a working ranch. But this isn't your typical vacation spot, there are rules that need to be followed and if those rules aren't followed, the cowboys are happy to hand out the discipline that comes for not following the rules.

The book does contain spankings as discipline and sexual scenes. If you're offended by this type of material, you will want to pass on this book.

I really enjoyed this book. The subject matter is not for everyone but I enjoy a good DD/lg novel. I thought it took a while to get into the story, but that is just me. I know background and building of a character is important. I have read other book by Dinah McLeod and I enjoyed those stories also. It was a good read and I would read more from Dinah in the future. The story subject was good and who does not like a hot cowboy?

I did not read the first story in this series but I do like this one. Goal orientanted Natalie has burried herself and her needs. Straight talking Daddy Thomas wants a lit'lt bit and hopes for a future. I liked how the author developed their relationship. All the characters are very well done, real and rounded. There are plenty of disciplinary spankings and some sweet sexy scenes. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and I very highly recommend it. This is a sweet sexy entertaining read.

This is a great story. I enjoyed going back to this ranch and seeing Thomas get his girl. I didn’t want it to end.

Natalie made a big mistake at work and they sent her on vacation. It’s better than being fired but she isn’t sure about the ranch when she gets there. She starts out in trouble and is punished by Thomas. Thomas is her ‘person’ at the ranch. It isn’t long before they are getting closer. Will they be able to make something work after her time at the ranch is done?

Natalie is astonished to discover where her boss sent her for a vacation. She can't believe it but when she realizes she has no choice and accepts it she begins to realize she hasn't been living. Her guide Thomas shows her what she's been missing with firm rules and discipline.
When her time is up and it's back to real life she has some real second thoughts.

4.7 stars

This book was really good and possibly my fave yet. The only reason for the 4.7 stars is due to the "punishment" going a wee bit too far and almost made me feel like it was abuse. Which shocked me cuz I like my books dark and spanking good. The bookoos of spicy scenes made up for it though. Overall a dang good book with a pretty good plot and oh so many hot spicy scenes 🥵🥵🥵
