My name is Kim and I’ve been playing hockey my whole life. I had my future mapped out… until a knee injury changed all my plans.
My life was on the ice but the future I’d been dreaming of was stolen from me.
It took me a long time to get over it. Now I live in my old house, under my parent’s roof. It’s not every girl’s dream, that’s for sure. But things could be worse, right?
Cue William Hughes, the ruggedly good looking newest player on the Chicago Blackhawks team.
He’s my older brother’s best friend… and my new enemy.
Having William around is a thorn in my side. He’s going to be on the road a lot playing a sport that I can’t stomach watching because it reminds me of what I lost.

This was another great romance with hockey as the center story. It’s got such a great family element too it and I highly recommend for an afternoon read
Ok there wasn’t enough of a connection to the characters to really invest myself to them. I thought Kim was spoiled & bipolar. In chapter 33 she just started making shit up at her own down comings I’m sure. I felt like that was supposed to be the climax of this but it was a lame one. The whole plot to this should have been thought out more. This was the first book I read from this author and unfortunately I didn’t connect enough to want to seek out anymore from her. I like strong developed characters & a story that engrosses me.
Kim’s whole dream was to play hockey but a knee injury killed that dream. Her older brother’s best friend William Hughes is back in town having been traded to the Chicago Blackhawks. Having William back home as a further reminder of a dream she can’t have and the feelings he stirs adds to her discontent when tragedy strikes. Rebel Hart skillfully tells the story of how the broken fragments of two fractured souls come together to find happiness. Some parts felt like there were holes in it but not bad enough to impair the story. Still worth reading.
There's nothing this author cant write. Rebel as yet again written another master piece and a sports romance nevertheless. This was her best yet. I love sports romances. Kim and William as been friends for a long time. William is Kim's brothers best friend. Kim as had her dream taken away from her to early in her career. William is a hockey player and as it all. This was a slow burn to their HEA. Can they make their love work throw the highs and lows. Will find out by reading this fantastic book. I highly recommend this book.
This was a really good book. The reason for 4 stars is because it seemed a bit lacking. Or for better words to rushed. It is one of the books that you really enjoy reading but maybe not something you would read twice. The story line was incredible, the drama was amazing and don't get me started on the romance. It just seemed like it needed to be longer in the sense of adding more details. It needed to be slowed down. All in all it was a really good book!
I have read ALL of Rebels books on amazon and I have to say...this one book is probably my favorite of them all!! Love all the feels of the book and that it deals with real issues of love life and loss.
This was a great read to begin with but then the fight they have at the end and the things she said to him were so mean. Personally it turned me off her and I think he deserved better than that in the end.
I enjoyed reading Breakout Play. It kept my attention, gave me the feels!! I loved that Kim and William grew up together. They have history and basically already family. We get to experience shock, worry, love, anger, sadness and triumph when Kim tells someone off for being a dick!!
An okay romance read. The characters were likeable, there was a touch of unexpected drama. Some laughs and some sexy scenes. It didn’t excite me though.
My first book by this author. Great sports read. Strong characters and family bond. Best friends little sister/best friend romance with a hockey backdrop.
I could not finish the last hundred pages. The character development wasn’t there for me. There was no real connection or passion between the two protagonists.
She did the damn thing... this book has now become my top 8 of the year... its just ... perfect.... if brothers best friend is your thing don’t pass this one
Kim loved hockey and had dreams of going pro, until a knee injury ended that dream. Will is her brothers best friend who was raised as part of her family. Will who also plays hockey, was drafted by the NHL and came back to stay with Kim and her family while looking for a place to buy and call home.
He realized that Kim was more then his best friends sister and Kim saw Will as more then just a friend. They had misunderstandings and a few ups and downs, but they worked around everything and found their HEA.
I enjoyed this Sports romance very much . Rebel definitely knows how to write Amazing Stories. Once I started I couldn't stop until I finished this book The Heat level in it is off the charts between these two main characters. Will and Kim story is a great one you don't want to miss it. I can't wait for her next book.
This was an ok read. A sweet story about two people who have known each other forever who one day see each other as more. Overall it was a sweet non-drama read. While I loved the break from over the top other woman issues like so many these days, I wish this story had a little more umph. The other things that I didn’t like were the fact that the hero never saw her as anything until she got curves and began to look hot. I’m not a fan of that. I can go with changing feelings in general, but not when the female has to become good enough for the guy first. It’s insincere. That leads into the second issue, I just didn’t see any chemistry between them for most of the book, at all. No long buried feelings etc, just one day she was hot enough for him. The author taking that angle kind of sucked, because aside from the way his feelings developed for her I really liked him. Check it out for yourself an see where you fall.
This was quite tamed down to Rebel's other books however I still really loved this book. It was nice to have a contemporary romance between a guy and a girl who have known each other since they were kids. A lovely fluffy read to be enjoyed for those who love contemporary romance
I love William and Eugene. these characters made me very reminiscent of people in my real life. Rebel definitely has a niche for this side of writing. would love to hear more of William and Kim.
This might be Rebel’s best book yet. I think her writing has been getting stronger with each book and this one showcased that.
I enjoyed both lead characters, although I liked William more than Kimberly because she could be sensitive sometimes and I though she just needed to get over it. I do wish we had gotten more about their friendship when they were kids, and maybe get to see Will with his teammates or someone outside of Kim and Keith.
Outside of those things, I thought this was a nice easy read with some good angst and some real steamy scenes.
There's nothing this author cant write. Rebel as yet again written another master piece and a sports romance nevertheless. This was her best yet. I love sports romances. Lordy I love me a sports romance. This doesn’t disappoint. While I find it a little light on the sports, (not everyone is as obsessed as me) the story is so good it makes up for it. Kim has had her dream cruelly ripped away from her. It doesn’t help that William has it all. These two finding a way to co-exist through the ups and downs that life has thrown at them is comical, heartbreaking and endearing.
I read this as a beta read and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I absolutely loved this story.
I loved the fact that it was not so fast paced and how the whole story was relatable for some people. I know I could 100% relate to this story. I loved how right Kim and Will are for each other. How they will fight for each other and make each other better. This story is a recommended read.
