Not for long.
The Republic is looking for the most dangerous individuals it can control. The best of the worst, and Abbey is one of them. Joined by the most ragtag collection of criminals the galaxy has to offer, she sets out to recover the ships and take down the traitors who stole them.
There's only one problem...
A new evil is rising in the galaxy. One with a power unlike anything anyone has ever seen. One that's been waiting for this moment for a very, very long time.
And it wants Abbey too.

I loved these books. It's a painful time in this country and i have a fraking broken leg so I can't even demonstrate. I do needed a story where the good guys win and the universe I'd at stake! Yup, I'm getting the next book. Thanks for the fun!
Disclaimer: Listened to the audiobook. Jeff Hays' performance never disappoints. The vocal chameleon strikes again.
Overall it is a great sci-fi opera story (thus far, there are 7 books total). The pacing is excellent with events moving quickly and there isn't a section that drags for too long. Each chapter has an important place in the overall plot and it makes you really pay attention. My only gripe is that there is quite a bit of random luck always saving the protagonist. It's quite jarring sometimes because there isn't even a good set up for the save or build-up to it...it just *BOOM* THIS HAPPENS, OH DAMN THE TABLES HAVE TURNED NOW. And when that happens I am left wondering..."oh well that's fine I guess." The rest of the book is fine. The setting is interesting enough, the big bad is big and bad enough but not over the top, and the author ties in religion and lore is also quite enjoyable. I give it a 4.5/5 because while it's great, the random saves leave quite a weird feeling after its all finished.
Sci-fi take on the apocalypse with a hint of Bram Stocker.
As I finished the first book I wasn’t sure where it was going. Book two opened up an interesting take on angels and demons with ace ideally sci-fi twist. There are nanites and lost worlds and weird species. All the things you would expect from good sci-fi.
This series is consistently fast paced, fueled by a seemingly bottomless reserve of creative plot twists and continued character development. The author has many irons in the fire, and rotates the telling of each seamlessly. Normally, with most books that use this method, I usually have a favorite story line that I regret having to leave when visiting one of the other stories - not with The Rejects. The author packs each story line with enough action and development that the momentum created never stalls.
There is one facet of Rejects that frustrates me, and it may be my own fault for waiting almost a year between books 2 and 3. I find the differences between Nephilim and Seraphim, Font and Focus, the multiple names used for each and how each effects different people depending on their origin of nature, to be a bit confusing. I recommend tagging the definitions when they're provided for future reference, you'll need them. To his credit, Forbes provides many instances of explanation, but they come from different characters and therefore, use different terminology, to explain the same story/history, depending on their own perspective. Maybe it's Forbes' method of pealing away the layers to get closer to the truth, but I'd rather these things were more clear - I find myself searching previous text for explanations - breaks the flow.
Abigail Cage, a former military specialist, is trapped in Hell, the galaxy’s toughest prison. She and a handful of other prisoners are offered a chance at freedom; they need to recover two missing prototype warships. It is a suicide mission, but Hell’s Rejects have nothing to lose.
I loved the characters in the Hell’s Rejects. Abigail, or Queenie as she is known among the Rejects, is a great lead character. The supporting cast in the group are top-notch as well. The pacing is non-stop and keep you turning the page.
The book starts off as the Dirty Dozen in space, but there are elements from Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy, Urban Fantasy, BattleTech, and more that show up at points in the books. Oddly enough, this mash-up works and works well.
The one element I wished the author would have left out was the Urban Fantasy parts. Space angels and demon just felt a bit strange. My only thought on why the author did this was he wanted to have Force-like powers in play but didn’t want to get sued by Lucas Films. By using angels and demons to explain the powers, it legally allowed him to do it.
The four-book set was a heck of a value and one that I’d recommend to anyone to pick up. I look forward to reading more in the series.
Loved this series. I really enjoy box sets and this box set was wonderful. I am looking forward to checking out M.R. Forbes other books. What do I love about book sets? Simple. I don’t like when book ends that I have truly enjoyed reading; fall in love with the characters, get deeply involved with the story and can’t wait to dive in to the next book in the series. Instead of just getting a teaser for the next book, you get to dive right in and see how the author arcs the story; from beginning to end.
If I am reading a book I 1 - Don’t like, 2 - have trouble ignoring too many spelling/grammar errors, 3 - find too many story issues (plausibility for instance), 4 - have no clue what the story is about by the third chapter, I simply delete it from my pad and move on to another one. There are just too many great books out there waiting for me to dig my teeth into, like “Hell’s Rejects” to waste time on poorly done books.
Unlikely Heroes🐺💪🔫🗡🚀 ADULT Sci-fi Space Opera🚀💫💥 Series This is a partial series, there are 7 books in all.
In this 4 book bundle there are plenty of space battles, land battles, treachery, backstabbing, Last minute heroes, and aliens. This is non-stop military- mercenary action🚀💪🔫🗡💥💫. Great characters and dialogue. Escaping from prison on a prison planet, Queenie💃💪🔫🗡 and her band of freed ragtag aliens👹 become a solid team and crew on their own spaceship🚀
I got this e-book from Amazon📚 with Kindle unlimited. All of the books have been published and the other 3 ( books 5-7) that are not in this bundle are also available on kindle unlimited. So binge read this series!
I have read a previous series written by Mr Forbes and he has an uncanny ability to weave very different aspects into a beautiful well crafted story. This series (the first four books), can be described as a space opera with plenty of action, deceit, political intrigue, and a bit of humor. It is also based on , in a loosely intriguing way on the religious aspects of God vs Lucifer. A very very good series to start reading.
As always with M.R., a rip roaring great time. A Super cast of characters and character development, liberally interspersed with detailed action scenes. Then add in some unique twists , turns and a few unexpected theories of GOD, Angels, Satan, devils ohhh and nanotechnology voilà you end up reading, and enjoying 4 books before your day is done. Now for the next three. Lol….thanks.
Liked the stories, the characters, the redemption aspects. A truly evil enemy, long-lived. Well planned schemes, manipulation, multiple alien races, cyborg, naniates, and more.
Hell yeah, I want to read the rest of the series, to see how Abbey, the Rejects, and Thraven all end up.
This is a fun series so far with the first four books. Throw ancient aliens, the bible, future suicide squad, magic (nanites), and demon vampires that fight like highlanders with swords to decapitate each other; in a blender and mix well. Simply a fun read, not too deep. Will read the rest of the series.
I liked the beginning of this series, starting with vague suspicions of corruption, leading to a good betrayal. Lots of action, and a believable female hero whose fighting prowess starts out plausible, and evolves as the story progresses. I like the rest of her band of misfits, especially Gant. Not Tolkien or Asimov, but fun and a fast read.
This fun fast paced series is well thought out. The science fiction is heavy on the fiction and light on the science, but the story is fun and Forbes does a good job of tracking and tying-up loose ends. If you are looking for a light action read, this is a good option to consider!
The story of the Chaos is spellbinding in the first four volumes. I can’t wait to see how the Hellions fare against evil. The story takes a lot from the Bible, angels battling demons who want to control the universe. Can’t wait to see how it all comes out.
This is a great story, with story arcs getting larger and larger. Plus a whole host of really great characters. I'm not going to be able to stop until I've finished it all.
One of the most entertaining science fiction books that I've read in quite awhile. Well developed characters that give you a thrill ride with all the twists and turns. Looking forward to the next set.
A great story dealing with humans and aliens vs... Well you should check these out. I love how the story has been done thus far and I will be picking up the other 3 as well when I'm able to. Go rejects!
Great world building with lots of well fleshed out characters. Forbes has masterfully crafted an exciting story arch that feels balanced and nicely paced. Phenomenal narrative performance by Jeff Hays, as always. Looking forward to finishing up the series.
Hell’s Rejects What an absolute fun ride! 4 great books at a steal too. Off to buy and binge the rest in this series. Then onto Justice of the Covenant, for some more goodness.
Really readable. Great storyline, relatable characters and banter. An excellent way to pass a few hours. Where's the rest? I know where to look, and will spend some good time reading other work by this author.
The first part of the books are standard military futuristic and heavy tech with a lot of violence, and then it got just a little bit off. If you know some of the religious methods of one of our larger religions it'll help you understand.
Extremely entertaining. A little tough to follow with all that goes on ( the extraterrestrials, the galaxy, etc). Character development is over the top and you soon develop your favorites. Just started book 5. Hard to put down at times.
Many good characters woven through a standard plot. However, the mix of God, Bible, vampire, science, and good old faster than light made for a really enjoyable read. Definitely continuing with this until it ends.
Fast moving and far reaching. Great historical references as well. I found myself slipping away to read a chapter of seven at times I typically don't read.
Good writing, some editing slips (timeline - characters knowing things the reader knows but they shouldn't yet) - and WAY too much repetition and "padding." Good story, fun read, just really a bit too long for the actual content.
The well crafted complexity really took me by surprise. Not to mention that the editing was great. I wasn’t even distracted by pseudo-science ‘explanations’ that don’t hold together. Great job!
I thought I was reading a complete series. I'm really bumped and it isn't. I've got so many series I've started in limbo because the author never finishes it. Like Pike. Or Lucky so many more.
I tried to like this series. Really, I did! I almost gave up 1/4 of the way into book one, but stuck it out 1/2 way through book 2 and then decided to move on to something else: Honor Harrington book #2. Now there's some great military sci fi.
