Raven Alby is finally getting the chance to be an ordinary first-year mage at Fowler Academy.
Until her dragon familiar sees a dark shadow in the sky that neither of them can explain.
Monsters have invaded the valley of the flightless dragons.
Connor Alby’s letter warned magic was returning but what new threats does it bring?
Dragon ranches and stables are being attacked across Lomberdoon and Raven and Leander could get caught in the middle.
Raven is whisked away from her dragon and wakes up alone in an empty cave in the Mountains of Jared with no way out. Will this mage in training have to rely on just magic or will Leander find another way?
Now, the dragon who couldn’t be trained must trust the people closest to Raven in order to get her back – her friends. Everyone has a part to play, and the bond between dragons and mages will be more important than ever. Will it be enough?
Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore but I was born under a wandering star and have lived in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
Every time I think that this series is getting better with each book, along comes another one that blows my socks off! Lol
This book had me riveted from beginning to end, and there were a few times when I had my heart in my mouth, wondering if, this time, Raven has taken on far more than she can cope with.
Then she does something either brilliant or, through sheer, dogged persistence, manages to totally surprise me, once again!
I REALLY loved this book, and was constantly surprised at the twists and turns that it drew me through, as Raven and Leander's story went on.
I especially loved the 'Monsters', and can't wait to learn even more about them, as this series progresses.
I've come to expect excellent storytelling from the pens - or should I say, the Keyboards - of these two imaginative, creative, and utterly inventive writers, but every series that Martha Carr and Michael Anderle creates, surprises me more and more, and I'm thoroughly LOVING IT!
So much so, that I even started the next book in the series, which is Book Five: 'Warmage: Unleashed', before I'd even started writing the review for THIS one: Book Four - because I wanted to know what happened next! Lol
So, as I really want to continue reading, I'll get on and finish this review, with the recommendation that, if you haven't started to read this series yet, then you should do so, as it's a wonderful coming of age - and Power - story!
Once I've finished reading Book Five, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of this next chapter of this storyline!
Another amazing book. I love this series, it keeps getting better as it goes on. Things are seemingly settling down for Raven and Leander - until some sort of huge monster starts attacking both the valley of the flightless dragons, and dragon ranches around the country. No one knows what these monsters are - until they knock Leander out of the sky during an attack on the dragon ranch they were staying at and kidnap Raven! She discovers the truth behind these 'monsters', and with help from her friends, Leander, her grandfather and the Headmaster, is able to escape. I can't wait until book 5!!
A set of new characters was introduced, very scary & mysterious, but not truly bad guys (maybe?). We may find out in the next book. William made a move on Raven, or at least leaned in that direction. Grandpa Alby made a cameo. Will someone please fix the mispellings? I really can't stand it... y'all are professional writers. Get a professional editor. One with spellcheck. Freakin' third graders know how to spell "whoa". STOP THE MADNESS! Please, I beg you... the longer you let this error go, the more people assume it is the correct spelling. Thanks. 7/10 unicorns 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄 Could be more if you fix the spelling!
As an avid reader of books in a series, I tend not to get to upset when the main character is abducted because the series can't go on without her. However I was concerned, and Raven tends to be a bit on the reckless side, so as I was reading I kept trying to come up with a way out for her. Of course I figured it had to have Leander involved but what actually happened was quite unexpected. I wouldn't ruin it for my fellow readers, so I just am looking forward to the next time!
Raven and her friends continue to learn and grow their magic and their relationships with their familiars. We see a new threat emerge, and a mystery is in need of solving.
Another book full of action and interesting meetings. There is a teaser at the end, and I’m looking forward to the next book.
Good action, good villains, especially the last one mentioned. There is little more dangerous than a person who thinks that they are "owed". If an action turns out well, take the credit. But if it turns out bad, blame someone else. No, I kid. You must take responsibility for your actions, good or bad.
Some frustration. O do have a problem with filler. Where obviously a character should respond to the immediate and striking new facts, but instead, it's milked out, not getting to the point. The characters act out, of character by doing so. Because the author doesn't want to get to the point right then. A waste of reading. We aren't stupid, you know.
I held off on reading this book because I knew that I would enjoy it. I just didn’t read it, I experienced it as if I was there. I have read many of Martha’s books and have been taken to the worlds therein . Always a wondrous adventure to experience. Understatement: A great read.
Another fun entry in the series. While the last book felt like a causing in themes from Harry Potter in places (albeit, an enjoyable and engaging variation), this one struck out on its own. Definitely more worldbuilding being exposed, and I think the story is the better for it. Very well done. Can't wait for the next one!
I enjoyed this book and while it was well written, something was missing for me. Can't put my finger on it but I guess I didn't feel as pulled into the story this time. Overall it was a good story. So far this series has been extremely enjoyable and is well worth the time to read it.
Just trying to get back to normal everyday life, Raven goes back to Fowler Academy with Leander and her friends to continue learning to be a war mage.. But things will never be normal with Raven and Leander.. and she gets kidnapped and meets up with ...
Martha does it again, writes an extraordinary story. Raven is a force to be reckoned with and William is a good match for her. It is good to see so many impressed by what she has accomplished at such a young age. And just think of how much more she has to learn.
I highly recommend this spectacular book, and the fantastic series in which it is, to readers of all ages, who love exciting, well written Fantasy. Enjoy! I'd also like to give a shout out to the great dog Lois Lane, may you always play and feel the love.
This was my favorite yet! I love how the friends played a key part and I love everything how the world history is being developed. The ending was fantastic! Oh and I love the humor:) Clean
