The Lodge #2

Looks Can Be Deceiving

Rate this book
How can a single parent long for someone to call Daddy?

Everything I do is to make sure my daughter has a good life. More often than not, that means I have to ignore my own desires, but she's worth it.

Working at a kink club might not have been my best move, but the tips make up for the torture of being faced with my fantasies every night.

One night, that's all William asked for...

One night will never be enough for me. As soon as I felt his arms holding me while I fell asleep in his lap, I was hooked. He encourages me to be little, but understands it's not something I can give him all the time.

He loves me just as I am, whether I'm little and needy or on my knees and begging for him.

When the sides of my life collide, will it all be too much for William?

Looks Can Be Deceiving is the second book set at The Lodge, the quirkiest kink club in Annandale. It features an overworked single dad and a retired soldier who avoids any structure in his life until his boy needs mandated nap time and play time.

Ugh!!! I’m trying not to let the ending of this book determine my over all review, but let it be known I’m not happy. This story was the build up to how do two guys practice their kink/ relationship while living a very hectic life with a family. So we got to have one domesticated night then boom end and the epilogue did not help. Dear authors don’t do that crap. Don’t build up to the climax only to end, and there not be a follow up book. The only reason it’s getting a three is because the story up to that part was decent.

I liked this a lot, until the end. 🤭🤭🤭

The end felt rushed, I finished the book and was like: that's it? I don't want to spoil things but the ending was just wrong, wrong i tell ya! A lot of stuff was left in the air that were kinda explained in the epilogue, but that wasn't enough, it was just wrong! I finished this with a big feeling of WTF, and still don't know how to process it.

Patience

William was able to be so patient with Corey and not push him into anything. I thought that was great. Corey was such a good father to Willow, and he put up with so much from Lisa.

Corey is a single dad and between his two jobs and an ex that doesn’t respect schedules he’s exhausted. William is retired from the military and occasionally helps out at the club where Corey works. The two men don’t like each other at first but as they get to know one another they grow closer. When William offers to help Corey relax and explore his desires Corey agrees.
This is my new favorite book from the author. Corey was so relatable and William was so patient and understanding. I loved reading their story. it warmed my heart. Their chemistry was amazing, and they fit perfectly together. We even got a cameo from Levi and Matteo.
I just loved everything about this book.

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review

Help & Love = Strength!

Retired from the Army, William is intrigued by bartender/workaholic Corey, his life, his kinks, and maybe love, too. I have mixed feelings about this story. The connection between the MCs is more lust than love, the premise is a bit uninspiring and the interaction between MCs and Willow is a bit disconcerting. Rating: 2 3/4⭐️⭐️

Looks Can be Deceiving is the second book in the Lodge serie by Quinn Ward. I really loved the story of William and Corey. I also loved Corey's little girl Willow.

(I would have loved some more story about William, Corey and Willow together).

I wasn't so sure about how I'd feel about this book having read and enjoyed the first book the Lodge series. William's character hadn't interested me at all when I read the first book, but I gave it a chance because I really enjoyed the first book, and I wanted to know more about Corey. (I really want to know Sam's story, but we're not there yet.)

Corey's struggles with life and responsibilities and co-parenting with an ex who isn't quite as responsible along with William and his life and family are exactly what this story needed. These characters have full lives but are still drawn to each other, need each other. Watching them navigate that and their desires made for an enjoyable read.

Okay, so I’m coming into this series late, but that’s okay, it didn’t take anything away from the story for me. I am curious to go back and read some, though I will say that this one took me a bit to get into because my husband’s name is Corey and it was hard to separate it when his name was spoken, especially when he was little. I also dunno how I’ll go back and read about Jack, as that’s my dad’s name and I dunno if he’s a Daddy or not, but… also very weird.

ANYWAY… in this one, we have William and Corey. Now keep in mind, I don’t know these two from any other story but this one, so if they make an appearance in previous books, I dunno. William though, is retired from the military and moved to town to be closer to his sister, who now has a teenage son and has been a single mother with no help from their parents, he feels guilty for being away when she needed help…. Trying to make up for it now, he still likes the fact that he can kind of do whatever he wants with no one tying him down anymore. I’m sure being career military would get tiresome doing everything on someone else’s time, I can understand his need to not have any ties… though his sister and nephew kind of are, his nephew is out and in college now, so he really has no responsibilities to speak of… unless you count the work he does at his friend's club from time to time, but he isn’t there in any official capacity, he doesn’t even technically work there….still, that’s where he meets Corey.

Corey, I felt a kinship with right away. A single dad (which is absolutely my kink) with a selfish baby mama and an adorable daughter that he’s breaking his back to give the best life to because of said selfish baby mama. Not only did I have a selfish baby daddy before meeting my husband over a decade ago, I related with the arguments and the constant having to readjust schedules for their irresponsibility. I also loved that he didn’t just jump in and throw his kid into anything until he was 10000000 percent sure about whatever it is. Kids come first, period and even in a romance novel, I was glad to see that.

Aside from all that, William and Corey did not start out on the best foot. William was a bit of an assumer, especially when he found Corey sleeping on the couch in the office of the bar or calling in at what is definition of the very last minute without having someone to cover his shift …. So it was rocky at first, but when William opened his eyes and started seeing for Corey for all the is and all that he’s struggling with, especially his need to be little, he offered him everything that Corey needed but was too afraid to ask for.

After William stopped being stubborn, I adored how patient he was with Corey and how he too, put Corey’s needs before his own. I enjoyed seeing him get Corey to open up and feel comfortable in this space that he longed for but never felt comfortable acknowledging. He thought that maybe one day, but until his daughter was grown, he didn’t know how to delegate because he never had the time to even explore…. Did I mention the selfish baby mama? Yeah, you won’t like her, I dind’t and never warmed up for her, even if she did end up doing the right thing for the kid she didn’t really seem to care about… but whatevs on that… it’s probably my own prejudice of selfish parents clouding my judgement there.

I did have a little trouble with the “dark” parts of their sexual relationship though only because it seemed so opposite and came out of nowhere for me. While I find it appealing in some aspects, I didn’t know if I liked the very very slight humiliation and diiiiiirty talking while Corey was little. To each his own, I am all for that, but it seemed out of place to me. Again, probably just to me, but I thought I’d give it a mention.

Overall though, it’s a very sweet story with an adorable little girl, a very vernerable and needy little and an endlessly patient Daddy, along with some sweet side characters/family members as well. I’m really curious to read more about William’s nephew and his roommate/boyfriend/little, Chase. I think he’ll be super cute and I hope they’re next. For now, I’m off to read what I missed by coming into this series in the middle.
4 stars from me!

Corey is a single dad trying to raise his daugher, Willow with an overbearing ex, Lisa. To make ends meet Corey works two jobs - one of them at a local kink club. He loves working the late hours on the weekdays at the club because his tips are great and he still has time with his daughter. But Lisa is very selfish and often shows up or calls him when she has other matters going on and wants him to take their daughter. Corey loves his daughter but it's not fair for Lisa to put all this on him when they have specified their schedule. Corey just wants to let go and he doesn't know how. William is friend's with the owners of the club and comes in frequently to help out. For whatever reason Corey erks William to no end. But when he friends Corey overworked and tired, sleeping on a couch in the club William's heart aches to care for this man. Maybe Corey is the boy that William has been searching for. What starts out as a slow progression of BDSM with Daddy/boy dynamics is starting to feel like a lot more. Is William ready to take on all Corey's baggage and will Corey let him?

I read this whole novel, but I really struggled to get into it. I just felt there wasn't any spark between the characters and their so-called Daddy/Boy relationship wasn't that developed. It was rather sudden how William want to really disliking Corey to deciding he would be the boy's daddy. It didn't make sense to me for him to do this 180 flip. For that matter we really don't get a lot of glimpses about their relationship together. We have some sex scenes and we know Corey plays in the club playroom, but I wanted to know more about Corey; especially more about his little side. I feel that we never really see Corey go into his little space and it's just very disappointing since their dynamic is the focal point of this novel. I think had this been more thoroughly developed I would have enjoyed this book more.

4.5* of finding out his needs.

Finding out Quinn Ward has a new book, drop everything to read it. We met William and Corey brief in the first book, in this book Corey bartends a couple nights a week at The Lodge, as well as trying to do what is best for his child. William works but isn’t employed at The Lodge becomes very intrigued by Corey, he believes Corey is hiding something, when he finds out it’s not what he expected. The relationship builds and develops over the book, it also has some tender moments and a fair amount of heat. I found this to be a highly enjoyable read, well worth reading. I can’t wait for Sam’s book.

A father who needs a Daddy! A concept I can understand given the circumstances that Corey is in. He is fairly young to be so burdened with the future of his 4-year old daughter.

A retired Army veteran who suddenly finds himself unburdened with responsibilities. Meeting someone to be with is something that he is not sure of right now.

The Daddy/little kink is something I have learned about in a few books I have read, and the dynamic is really intriguing. The concept behind it is totally understandable in the sense that when you are overburdened with responsibilities, and before you break, you need to unload some of it somehow. This book made me understand this particular kink more.

Love this book!! William and Corey have a rocky start because of assumptions made by William. Once they get past that and start their relationship, it's absolutely beautiful and amazing. Corey has a lot on his plate and never takes care of himself nor does he let himself give in to what he really wants. William is just the person that he needs in his life. They really are perfect for one another. Not only are their chemistry and connection really hot, but they also complement each other perfectly. I can't wait to get more from this series. Age-play books with interesting plots are difficult to find so, receiving this book as an ARC was a treat. The plot is complex and original, specially how the author masterfully managed the Daddy/boy kink, involving everything, from the learning curve between William and Corey, to the carefully way they tried to keep the balance between their relationship, family and job. It has some angst and difficult moments but in general is easy to read. A wonderful reading!

I've received an ARC of this and thought it was a sweet story. Corey is like so many of us. He keeps putting off his desires for others. He is a kind guy with a huge responsibility and no support system. William is a bit of a gruff guy at first, but grows on ya. After he finally learns more about Corey his warmth shines through. What I loved most about this book, is William's willingness to go at Corey's pace. He's not trying to bulldoze his way in or make Corey go to fast. Corey is able to be himself with William which he desperately needs.

I was very excited to read a CGL story about a little with a child. I've always wonder how they would manage to compartmentalize their little time and their child's play time. And I wanted to get a better understanding of the different reasons people were attracted to age play.

This was a good glimpse into how a couple with a child would deal with having their daddy/mommy little time. Although I did wish I got to see more of Willow with both of them so I could get a grasp on how they would make it work. Because it felt a bit rush toward the final chapters.

Also, William was interesting to me. At the start, he clearly didn't think he would want to commit to Corey since he wanted independence and freedom. And his sporadic interest in Sam was interesting too. I mean it's not wrong that he found others attractive but it was odd he was considering a menage when he was trying to get Corey to trust him.

I was taken aback by it because it didn't understand how he could go from pursing Corey and then thinking Corey and Sam were so cute together, he could see himself sliding in between them as they slept.

I'm going to just wrap this up to him not being sure that he wanted Corey for the long term. And that he wanted to care for Sam, who clearly needed a Daddy and support system.

I did manage to get over this and get into the story although I did wish we got to see more of their story after meeting Willow. And how they all ended up living together. I wanted a little after they all met each other (Gen, etc) because I wanted to see how their relationship would grow stronger now that Willow and William were a united part of Corey's life.

Still a good read though.

I start this review by saying I haven't read the first book so there are some things that I didn't understand at first. This is also my first time reading about this particular genre of bdsm - the Daddy/boy dynamic.

We first meet the Daddy MC - William - a man who likes to be in control, who likes to take care of others, of being useful, of being needed. But he is also afraid of having ties, after a lifetime of regimented service in the military he wanted to not be bound by anyone or anything.

The second MC - Corey - the boy - is a single father who shares custody of his daughter with her mother and to say their relationship is contentious is putting it mildly. This is where I start having problems - the mother is made out to be an absolute nightmare, dropping in without warning, dropping her daughter off when she needs a break, always expecting Corey to pick up her slack. She's basically a flighty, irresponsible, selfish child raising a child.

The story was a good one - single father, working 2 jobs, burying a side of himself for fear of being discovered by the vindictive ex (although this really doesn't play out in the end). Enter William, friend of the owner of the kink bar Corey is a part time bartender at. William is given all sorts of responsibility over the bar and staff despite having no investment in the club beyond his friendship.

William notices a need in Corey and uses a new playroom opening to help Corey explore the little side of his personality. In the course of doing so they fall for each other.

All in all I found it an easy read but I did have problems with the way the mother/ex was portrayed and how Corey was so terrified of being discovered despite that never really being a thing beyond the mention that the ex's parents didn't approve of Corey.

If this sort of a trope and genre is your thing then go for your life, it was, in the end, a happy ending and a good story.

After reading book one of the series, I definitely felt that I needed to hear more about Corey's story and what, exactly, seemed to have happened between him and William. I enjoyed this book and enjoyed seeing how the two characters developed together. William definitely grew on me as a character and I liked how others from the previous book still made an appearance. I also liked the links with William's nephew Jayden (I'll definitely need to read his book now I think!)
The reason for me that it isn't 5 stars is I felt like the end was rushed.

*Some spoilers...*

One minute William was in Corey's home for the first time and the next, he's met Willow, looked after her and then it's the epilogue which rounds everything off very quickly. After going through all their relationship slowly and building the trust step by step I would have liked to have read HOW they got everything sorted. Sorting all the stuff with Corey's ex was skipped over, their decision about living arrangements, Corey really coming into his own as a little and balancing that when Willow is around. I just felt like when I got to about 85% on my kindle it rapidly picked up speed and by the end, although I did enjoy it, I wanted more before the story was done.

4 Stars.. 🎧 narrated by Christopher Rain. A good narrative for the story for Cory and his Daddy William.

3.5 stars 🔰 An okay book as Cory learns how to be a Little. Cory's time was limited due to working 2 jobs and looking after Willow, his daughter. Scenes playout with Cory's ex-girlfriend pushing the times to baby sit unexpectedly, I didn’t like her and situations are not really good for Willow’s upbringing. I pictured Cory's voiced Little in the narration a bit different for the character than was used. I think if I’d read this it may have liked it a little more, maybe. Cory’s bisexual and hadn’t experienced any men in his life yet until William. A slow romance for them both with a few Little scenes between them. Cory’s a brat and needed a little control in his life. The story progresses up to the ending which ends abruptly although an epilogue is included didn’t improve a rushed finish to the book.

Cory was ex-military now working 2 jobs to support his 4 year old. Working in a bar where he longed for wanting what was being built in the new section of the club but hadn’t had the chance yet.
Daddy William was looking after the bar while his friend was away on vacation and somehow disliked/attracted Cory he hadn't figured out yet why.

This is a great story from Quinn Ward. They always give readers an interesting relationship/kink that slowly develops throughout the book. I haven't read the first in the series but that definitely didn't stop be from enjoying this book but I will absolutely be going back to find Jack and Slade's story.
Bless Corey, he's trying so hard to provide the best he can for his daughter, working two jobs and constantly fighting against her mother who is very uncooperative. He is constantly fighting a part of himself that would allow him mental R+R, to release his stress levels. Luckily, William sees his need. Not initially, as they get off on the wrong foot, but he turns out to be the best kind of Daddy that Corey needs. He stays patient as Corey needs to keep his parenting, work and relationship separate whilst also providing a safe space to explore and truly be himself. It's great for William as he finds something worth sticking around for that he wasn't even looking for.
There are some great characters at the club, especially Sam, and William's family are so accepting and supportive of them and everything they go through.
Definitely a recommended read and I need to get myself more of Quinn Ward's books that are part of this world as I fell in love with the characters and the relationships that they build both friend and romance.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Corey works some nights at The Lodge and holds his cards close to his chest. William is helping his friend and owner of the club by being an unofficial manager and giving demonstrations. These two did not have the best impression of each other at the beginning. If I'm being fair, I wasn't too sure I was going to like William at the beginning either, but I'm happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised at how fast I changed my mind about him. I was happy to see William take a step back and realize that there might be more going on with Corey than he realized. Corey is doing his best to provide for his daughter and take care of her, but he's burning himself out with two jobs. When it seems that Corey has a little side, William is determined to help Corey at least explore it and see if it fits him. Corey really doesn't see how he can be a little and have a Daddy when he's a father himself.

I loved how hard Corey tried to do whatever he could for his daughter. He was in a tough position and did a great job considering everything. I was happy when he agreed to let William help him try being a little. It was clear he needed to be able to let go of his stress and needed help. I loved that William started seeing more than he expected in Corey and that he was open to all the changes that Corey brought with him. I also loved that William found patience and a willingness to set down roots. I was happy that Corey, even though he was reluctant to share things, was honest with William and let William know what was bothering him.

I loved the addition of William's nephew, and I hope we see more of him and his roommate soon. Although I really want Sam to get a story of his own too.

This is a great addition to The Lodge series and I really enjoyed it. Looks Can Be Deceiving is well written, sweet, emotional, sexy, gives a realistic view of how difficult it is to balance being a single parent and having time to be yourself, the characters are amazing and I love the storyline. Corey is running himself ragged to ensure that his young daughter is well cared for as well as trying to supress his longing to be a little. What he needs is a daddy dom to support and care for him but he has so little time for himself that he knows no one will want to deal with his reality. William is a daddy who wants a boy but he has his work cut out for him if he wants to convince Corey that whatever time he can give him will be enough. They are exactly what the other needs and I love how their relationship develops. I like how accepting William is of Corey's responsibilities and his ability to give Corey the escape that he desperately needs. They have some issues to deal with but it will be well worth it in the end for both of them. The secondary characters are great and I can't wait to read the next book in this intriguing series.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

This is the first book I have read by Quinn Ward, but it definitely won’t be the last. I didn’t read the first book of this series because the premise wasn’t a story I was interested in. I’m so glad I grabbed this book though.

William and Corey face very real life hurdles in their love story. Corey is a father and a little, but he is a newbie to being little. I absolutely love how these issues were interwoven in the story and how they were able to find a path to happiness that worked for them.

Also, since this series is set in the fictional world of Annandale where the author has created three other series’s, we get a small amount of crossover with characters from those other series making cameo appearances. How awesome is that? I can hardly wait to read Jayden’s story with Chase. 😍

So Conflicted

This is the first book I've read where Littles are main characters. There are some things that I felt iffy about. So I think it's hard to judge a book, on something you know so little about. And I say this because the main character that is supposed to be a little in this book, is new to the scene so they don't go real deep because of his conflicts in life. So Judging this as a Daddy and his boy book, It's good William is there for his boy, and Chase is learning to let go. All and all it's a really sweet story.

DNF

Another book where I instantly disliked both characters and couldn’t overcome it.

We don’t get a lot of Little time on the page, it’s really glossed over. There’s a lot of “Daddy” and “Boy” thrown around, but it’s not cheerful. It’s gritty and kind of depressing...maybe more realistic in a way I just don’t like in my romances since is super weird to read instalove and RL problems.

This is not a sweet Little book, it’s a D/b book with Littles hinted at more off page than on.

It was really nice to find ways that you can have your cake 🎂 and eat it too. You are able to be a responsible parent and still have your own little (personal) time. This shows that it can be done responsibly if you both are careful about your time and remember that the childs needs are what's important and it won't last forever but if you truly care for your child and each other you will survive this storm, my mother had a saying she lived by, 'This to shall pass ', things never last as we feel things as long as they seem when you are in the midst of the storm.

Love William and Corey!!!

Quinn Ward has a way of writing Daddy kink that makes me want the books to never end!! I fell in love with Corey right away. While reading it, you can feel his internal struggles that he fights on a daily basis. It makes you want to curl up with him and just hug him until he feels better. Luckily, William also recognizes this and sets out on a path to convince him. It's such a sweet Daddy/boy story!! I definitely recommend it!!!

I think it was my first Quinn Ward book and I don't know what to think. Everyone seems to love their books especially the daddy/boy ones, but after this book I'm not so sure I want more like this?

This story was like a mix of words. You put some ideas in the mixer then hit start. I felt like so much was missing from the book. I checked many times that I'm on the wrong page because I felt I'm missing something important from the story and the plot.

It was really low on the daddy/boy theme. So low I wouldn't even call this an age-play book. Tell me, where were little scenes? Where were sweet daddy/boy scenes? WHERE!

The blurb was so promising, but the story wasn't that good.

I missed the age-play scenes, missed the romance and mostly the erotica! How and where they ended in love?! HOW! It were mostly just words on the page and nothing behind them.

There were some sweet scene here and there, but mostly it was me who was praying for something more.

I'm sad because I really really wanted to love this book. It's hard to find daddy/boy books I don't like...

I was very excited by this book as I have become a fan since book 1 of this series. These two were amazing characters to watch grow and change into the roles they were to be in. William and willow by far were my favorites. I can't wait to read more about the secondary characters. I do wish there was more along the lines of his little play but I truly enjoyed this book. Corey was a great boy who definitely needs as a daddy . Great job, can't wait for the next one.

The blurb pulled me in to this book, the premise was so alluring because it's the first Daddy/little book I've read where the little had a child already. And Corey's personality brought out the best in his relationship with Willow, how he could relate to her in play.

I loved William and Corey's cuddling, I just wished there had been of their Daddy/little time, the ones we are just told about. That was lacking from making it a truly good book.

Enjoyed this story very much.

Corey and William were well matched together. Corey needing a daddy and William needing a boy. Throw in a little girl for both of them and it was a great story. Loved how Corey kind of knew what he wanted but was afraid to go after it because he was afraid of his two lives colliding. William was needing a forever boy and he finally figured out who that was.
