With The Master and his mistress hiding in the shadows, Charleston PD Detective Ellie Kline resumes the investigation of the dozen bodies found on Tucker Penland’s property. The man who hunted his prey has left behind a horrific mystery that affects the whole police department.
Every death tied to Tucker Penland raises more questions than answers, and Ellie must piece together clues to help identify each victim. Their families need closure. So does she.
But she can’t escape the feeling that Dr. Kingsley, the man who kidnapped her when she was fifteen, is still out there, waiting to strike. But what can she do? Her kidnapping case was taken out of her hands, and the new detective wastes no time pointing fingers in her direction. Worse, her colleagues believe she’s obsessed with a ghost.
When a threatening package arrives on her doorstep, a call to Agent Clay Lockwood leads to a startling revelation. No one is safe. Not even one of their own.

I just finished reading Cold Grave. It, like the rest of the series, has characters that are strong in their courage, brave in their actions, and horrifying in their villany. Ellie Kline is once again the star of the show, running (or diving) into danger pell-mell, without fear for herself – she only cares about those she loves, and she’ll go to any lengths to protect them. The rest of the crew is there as well; Jacob and Jillian, Fortis, Marcus Johnson - they all remind us of where we’ve been in this journey with Ellie. There’s a pain-in-the-butt new detective in the bullpen, and Fortis moves her up into the Violent Crimes warren, rather than the basement because she works alone! (And Jillian would be beside her again.) Once again, she is plagued by paranoia, and some of her fears are justified. She meets an officer from the ACTeam and finds a kindred spirit in Clay Lockwood. She still will not sit back occasionally when the bad guys are getting close, but she has the backing she needs to get the job done. I honestly cannot wait for Book 6 to come. Thank goodness I do not have to wait that long!
More than ever, Ellie is learning that nothing and no one can be trusted. The memories she " recovered" of her kidnapping where colored and skewed by a psychopathic psychiatrist planted within the Charlotte P.D. A decorated detective has taken his own life after revealing his involvement with a sadistic human Traffickin ring. There is a Mole somewhere within her circle and her former tormentor is fixated ion destroying Detective Kline and anyone who gets in his way.
Joined by members if the FBI's ACT task force, Detective Ellie Kline is determined to solve not only a rash of cold cases, but also her own kidnapping, no matter what the cost. But who can she trust?
I started this series 2 weeks ago & have binged through 5 books! About to start #6!! Well done are the 2 best words I can use to describe this series. I love ( and hate) how she leaves you hanging so my only option is to move on to the next because I must see this through to the end. Full of twist & turns, a fast paced thriller filled with shock & aw! I cannot say much about the storyline without giving things away so I will just say GREAT read!!
Yet another Cliff hanger - yet another great insert to the psychological thriller series. The scene is set at “The Master” is up to his old gamed again, this time in a remote mountainous plain.
Cold Grave centers around suspicious to the Hunter of Bartlett Woods and the ongoing case that the team is struggling to close. Then- there’s a break in the case, from mummified remains to mistaken and stolen identities, this book bring to light yet ANOTHER sick and twisted individual in the grand scheme of the trafficking ring.
I'm liking this series, but hope "The Master" storyline gets wrapped up pretty soon. He has more lives than a cat! The addition of Clay is turning out really good. He fits with Ellie better, I think. Also glad that Jillian is still helping Ellie with cases. How many dirty cops, etc etc work with Ellie? This keeps you guessing, that's for sure. First you're thinking you know what is going on, and then.... Another curveball gets lobbed into the mix! Good story telling, but let's catch the creepy guy and put him to rest.
Ellie and Clay are great partners. Ellie is still on the hunt for Kingsley the psychopath who ran the largest trafficking operation in Charleston who also kidnapped Ellie 13 years ago. Ellie also has a stalker. This series gets better and better. Ellie is determined to keep Jillian, herself and everyone she can safe from these psychos while solving the mysteries of who the Jane and John Does are from the Hunter. This is a great book. Thank you Mary Stone.
How many times can Kingsley escape from Ellie and the FBI and the Charleston PD? Is a cat with 9 lives? Will they get him before he gets Ellie? And where has Katerina got to? She walked, er.,ran, away right under their noses at the take down at the dog kennel! She hates Ellie almost as much as the Master does, now he's after her too. Find all the answers in this excellent book. Highly recommended!!
Ellie Kline, Savanna PD, and Agent Clay Lockwood, FBI are pitted together again
Ellie Kline Detective Savanna PD, and agent Clay Lockwood, FBI are drawn back together to try to find who some of the bodies are that they found. And who some of the left behind bad cops that are still stirring the mud might be. Again I would give this more stars if I could cthis writer can really tell a great story.
Another page turner by Mary Stone with these great characters. I am enjoying this series a lot. Just when you think you’ve figured something out, there’s a new twist and you go down a path that has you scratching your head, giving you more questions… Making you want to read faster to get to the answers! I’m moving on to Book 6. Can’t wait for the story to continue…
I enjoy this series, but I'm ready for it to come to a conclusion. I like the characters and believe that beach of the cold cases that Ellie solves would make good stories. The Katrina and Lingsley story should be brought to a close. It should not take 6 books to tell a story. This story was light in content compared to previous books. I was a little disappointed
Ellie just keeps plugging at her cold cases and the man that kidnapped her at 15 and his cohorts just keep abducting and letting serial killers buy the ones they want. So she is so busy trying to find out who all the corpses are so their families can have closure and not to be afraid for herself and loved ones you just want to keep reading.
Compared to the other books in the series preceding it, this felt like a ‘filler’. Nothing new really happened, it continued on from the previous story, we largely know who the killer is, but we delve more into the why and the victims, the Master continues his madness but nothing really closes - we’re more primed for what happens in the next book. Bit disappointed but looking forward to the next.
"Cold Grave" is a continuation of the Ellie Kline series. Once again, more evil than you would expect. Two serial killers, or is it three? Who is the under cover bad guy? Plenty of possibilities, and takes a lot of digging to find out who the secret enemy in the police system is. Thank goodness Ellie and her newest partner figure it out!
I recommend this book to all who like mysteries. It keeps you guessing throughout. Ellie is still being followed and her friends life are in danger. Read how she as Clay solve things.
This series kept me involved in the story. I was disappointed in the ending. I really do want to get the next book in the series to find out what happened. I'm just worried that it will end the same way-no ending at all.
I read book five in less than 24 hours now I have to wait until August for the sixth one in this series. This one was exceptionally good really couldn’t put it down. Love the new romances for Ellie,Jillian and yes even Sam the dog. I can’t wait to see how they progress.
Good writing team here . Ellie ' s nemesis has returned from his makeover although he's hiding in Colorado . The cold case files turn up new information . Cliffhanger
Impatiently waiting for the next book....! Couple of hot romances going on, Katarina’s in the wind, Masters on the loose( again) and who’s stalking Ellie...? ! Can’t wait to see...!!
These authors bring the characters to such life. It truly is as if they are in front of me. I can "see" their eyes rolling and the nuances of their body language. I can feel the tension between Ellie and FUN Agent Lockwood.😉 Cannot wait for Book Six!!!
I enjoyed this series until I read this book. I didn't like the romance angle and got impatient and tired of trying to reach an end to the series that unfortunately still includes another book. I won't be reading it.
I have now read all of the books in this series. They were all great. I'm looking forward to reading book 6. If you do choose to read the series he sure to start with the first book.
This series keeps getting better and be with each book! I love the budding relationship between the girls and the men protecting them, and the bad guys and gals keep getting more difficult to find- WTG!
I absolutely loved the next book in the Ellie Kline series! I love the direction the author seems to be taking Ellie and Clay. As ususal this book is full of twists and turns. I certainly would recommend this read to everyone.
Trying to ID the victim's of the Hunter is a deadly task! Ellie and Clay even find another victim during the research to match missing people with the bones found. Of course, her life is on parade thru the pictures sent from a stalker.
These plots twist and turn until I can't get a grip on who's who. The next book is the last in the series so far. These are such easy reads that they've really helped with my reading challange
Nothing much going on in this book. Mostly centered around the ME and her assistant Tom. Tom’s character is a bit strange so you know he’ll end up being the bad guy.
