I was born and bred to be a killer. It's all I'm supposed to be.
I take no prisoners. Until Lily. For her, I make an exception. But only for a week.
When I walk in, time starts ticking down to zero. Her father has seven days to save her.
Until then, she's mine. Mine to have. Mine to take.
Mine to keep.

Abbi Cook did a great job on this story, Beneath The Surface had a strong plot, it was written well, it was packed with many emotions. Cason and Lily were strong characters, their journey wasn't an easy one, they went through a lot, their journey was a rollercoaster but these two were made for each other. They were drawn to each other, the connection was strong. Their chemistry was sexy. Lily and Cason were great together.
I enjoyed this story, it was great. Thank you, Abbi Cook. Great work :)

DNF @20%. Sadly, I just can't get into this book. The characters are barely beyond one dimensional. I'm not at all engaged and I don't see it getting better.

Cason 🔥 he's moody, he's broody, he's actually a pretty miserable bastard 🙈 Lily knows how to push all his buttons, but you can't help but love him, he also possesses all the traits we love in our anti-heros; tall, dark , dangerous and handsome 😈 (I mean that cover is just *swoon*)

"His large hands move deftly, proof that this isn’t his first time tying someone up."

Yeah, Cason baby you can tie me up anytime #JustSayin' 😈😏😉

I loved how Lily stepped up to him right from the get go, she didn't care who he was, her sass and bravado in the face of danger was amazing, she's such a strong character 🖤

Opposites definitely attract in this story, Cason loves the silence and doesn't like people talking, whereas Lily just doesn't know when to shut up 🤣 but they fit together so well and their chemistry is off the charts 🔥🥵

"Yes, she’s been a pain in the ass, but she’s my pain in the ass."

Just like the first book the story was fast paced and exciting with twists and turns you don't see coming which gets you gripped from the first chapter and before you know if you're at 90% and it's almost over 🥺

Another bad guy that Abbi Cook gets me to fall for! Lily comes across as innocent and naive but she slowly reveals more as the story unfolds. She took me by surprise in the best way. Cason blows hot to volcanic and then drops down to crazy so I never knew which version was going to come out to play. It becomes obvious about halfway in that they would fit together really well if Cason wasn't so stubborn. When he starts to soften my anxiety shot through the roof, a bad feeling crept over me. Ms Cook kept me balanced on the knife's edge in a mix of dread and anticipation throughout the entire story. Intense and unpredictable, Beneath the Surface will keep you up late till the very end.

If you like dark steamy romances, Abbi Cook is your girl. Her Captive Hearts series is about a crime organization family and how the women they love change them. Lily is taken by Cason as collateral for her fathers debt to his crime boss father. Cason is a killer but he comes to love Lily and do whatever it takes to protect her.

There are some scenes that aren’t for the faint of heart but it all connects the story. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review and I honestly loved this book.

what a roller coaster of emotion tugging, suspense filled, twists and turns, gripping, sensual romance that was. A great addition to the captive heart series, though can be read as a stand alone. Well written, easy read that was nicely paced through out, No element of the story felt rushed. Great characters that were in depth and sparked with electric chemistry! A great read not to be missed!

Beneath The Surface is a well written book with a Killer and a his prisoner he never meant to take. There are some dark love scenes and the emotional parts are also well described. This is truly an enjoyable, action-packed love story with chemistry. This is a wonderful addition to any library and I cannot wait to read more from this author. A must read

I feel this book was a bit slow, maybe it's just me, I don't know.
Cason is a killer. His father is the Don of the family. He gives Cason a job to see about money owed that's late. The man asks for more time to pay but Cason knows that's not how it works. The man has a daughter, Lily. He takes her.
What will happen if her father can't pay? Will Cason kill her?

Lily is full of surprises and Cason is unpredictable. He takes her and there are predicaments and situations that bring drama, lust, passion and danger. These characters are complicated and interesting that brought on a great HEA.

Sorry, I just couldn’t get in to this book. I read to about 25%, but I then went to about 88%. I didn’t feel like I wanted to go back and catch up.

Suggest you read for yourself, we are all different.

I tried to keep going but uugh the characters are so boring. Casen is a lazy ass and Lily talks and acts like a child. He's supposed to be a killer, but he seems like a juvenile.
