Hate You

Rate this book
I loved to hate her...

She made it so easy. She was everything I wasn’t—everything I didn’t want to be.

A reminder that from the moment I was born, I was the outcast. The rebel.

I went against everything that was expected of me and created a life on my terms. I built my own empire, carved out my own destiny.

Then she shows up at my tattoo studio, representing everything I tried to escape. She expects to just fit in… like she ever could.

Tabitha Anderson.

The posh girl trying to prove everyone wrong... that she can be something else—someone else. She hates me because she knows I’m right.

Or so I think. Turns out this isn’t the first time we’ve met, and our hate has history. We have history.

I might not have remembered, but I damn sure won’t forget now. Won't forget how her smile is always directed at everyone but me.

If everything changes and she proves she does fit in, will it still be hate I’m feeling or something else entirely?

And if I’m wrong, then she’s right where she belongs... with me.

To say I am confuse about this book is understatement. The blurb promosing enemy to lover romance. Usually it is full of angst and heavy on chemistry. And a lot of drama.

I listened to about 3rd hour into the audiobook. The relationsip between Tabitha and Zach is jumping from enemy to lover without any transition. I feel lost in between. Lost in chemistry. I can not feel the vulnerable connection between these two.

So I give up.

I 100% read a completely different book from everyone else! I really must have because I just did not like Hate You by Tracy Lorraine. I feel like Hate You was trying to be a lot of different tropes ex. best friend brother, childhood crush, and enemies-to-lovers :/ For me Hate You failed at all three of these tropes.

What happened?
1. Well I really REALLY REALLY disliked Zach Abbott the "hero" of this story.

I've found in romance books that if I don't like the main hero (who is presented as being swoonworthy and awesome) the whole book just falls apart for me. Zach was pretty much an asshole from the jump to Tabitha (or Biff as she's called but of course he never calls her by her name once). And honestly I never really understood why! Why was he an asshole to her? She wasn't a bad worker, she was really nice to everyone at the shop, got along great with everyone, and seemed like a cool person. Every other guy in the book seemed to think so. He basically sees her wearing a posh outfit and judges her immediately and then is a massive massive WANKER (i'm going to borrow some brit slang since this book takes place in London) towards her the ENTIRE book. He's so hot and cold with her for no real reason. He doesn't know the he went to school with her, he doesn't know that she's his sisters friend so there was no real drama or past history between them.

His entire attitude just wasn't attractive and he really didn't deserve Biff at all......which brings me to my next frustration with Hate You.

2. Tabitha, Biff, Tabby Cat, Kitten (or whatever else nickname that she gets called) I started out liking Biff. I thought she was a pretty cool girl who seemed like she was having trouble spreading her wings and getting out from under her parents control. That's a really relatable frustration (wait what's that she was 28? Yeah she, and every other character in this read early 20s not late twenties but whatever) and she had just had her grandma die which was really sad. However, everything just goes downhill once she meets Zach. I'm not sure what about Zach she likes so much? Oh wait I know he's really good looking! That must be it because every single one of their interactions were just horrible (until about 77% of the book! I checked!).

He runs so hot and cold with her and she just lets him! He says some pretty mean stuff to her and every time their alone together she just throws her knickers at him and hops on! I guess what I really wanted was for her to just tell him off and call him out on his attitude which outside of work I never felt like she did. Biff pretty much lets him jerk her around, sleep with her and then tell her she's fired, tell her that he hates her and makes her cry WHILE THEIR HAVING SEX, and is super possessive over her even though their not even dating!

3. Basically because of all the above reasons the romance just didn't land with me! I really had no desire to see Zach and Biff together. I would've been happier if she drop kicked him in the balls and gave him the middle finger as she walked away.

All in all, Hate You didn't really work for me but judging from all the 5 star reviews it worked for a lot of other people! So, try a sample see if you like it but Hate You just wasn't for me.

ps. those two stars are for the secondary characters! I liked Dani, and the boys at the shop. They were fun!

Why are tattoo artists so sexy?

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙❤️💚🖤
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 😊😄😘🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Duet Narration

The heroine: Tabitha Anderson (a.k.a. Biff) - she recently lost her beloved Gran to cancer and is at a loss as to what to do with her life. She is going for her master's degree but has plenty of time on her hands and is determined to not follow the path in life that her parents expect of her. So, one night when she is passing a Tattoo shop, she sees an ad in the window for an admin needed. She applies for the job on the spot and gets hired.

The Hero: Zach Abbott - he was the school’s bad boy and sex god at the school Biff attended years ago. They never got along, and he was pretty much a dickhead to her from the start. He was gone from the tattoo studio when his friend ‘D’ hired her and when he found out, he wasn’t happy. He believes she doesn’t fit in at his tattoo studio. He owns the place. His little sister Dani is now Biff’s best friend. They didn’t know each other at school but met at university. Dani and her family assume that Zach is living the high life off his trust fund, they have no idea that he owns a successful chain of tattoo studios.

The Story: Zach doesn’t remember Biff from the pretentious private school they attended, but she certainly reminds him of the girls that went there and doesn’t like it. When Zach tells Biff that she doesn’t fit in at the tattoo studio, she takes a look at herself in her designer clothes and agrees. She leaves and pulls a Sandy from Grease and returns with a whole new look that goes much better at Rebel Ink.

I liked these characters. Of course, Zach was a jerk at first, but he had his reasons for not liking Biff, being that he thought she was the type of girl he grew up with and wanted to stay away from. Technically she was that girl, but like him, there was much more to her, and she wasn’t only that posh girl from a wealthy family but was someone that was struggling to find herself outside of that world.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via duet narration and was narrated by Shane East and Kylie Stewart. Shane East is pretty much one of the only British narrators I really like. He has a terrific accent and a deep, but soft voice that I love. Kylie Stewart sounds exactly like the posh girl that Tabitha is supposed to be. Though I have to say, I am not too fond of her voice.

So I decided to spend my weekend with the men from Rebel Ink. The series is standalone. However, I do suggest you started with Book one; Hate you. Hate you is Zachs and Biff's story.

Zach has kept away from his family and what he has does for a living. He has never felt like he belonged and was judge. He didn't want what went with his last name and rebelled against it.

Biff comes from a posh life: she promised her grandmother to do what Biff wants to do, not her parents. She is now on a journey of self discovery

After one night out with her friends, she walks back to her flat that Biff notices a help wanted with a tattoo shop. The man D hires her on the spot. When Biff shows up for her shift, the owner shows up, to Biff's surprise, the owner is Zach, who she went to high school with, and her best friend's brother. When Zach turns around and sees her, all he sees is a woman who comes from everything he hates. Plus, he doesn't recognize her.

After he tries to let her go on the spot,Biff comes back, and it is on. She gives has as it takes and takes no crap from Zach. It was quite funny. You can’t help but laugh as she gets back at him—so many secrets with so many characters that do unfold and one you never see coming. I love how Tracy Lorraine ends her books to set up the next one. Off to Read Titch and Danni's story.

If there were awards for the crappiest, most dysfunctional and annoying couples in romance fiction, this book would not only be a nominee...

...but the winner as well. No doubt!

The most disappointing thing is that this book is simply the fact that it's just plain stupid and has zero to offer, especially in the romance department. Well, at least to me.
I managed to finish only because the more I read, the more I kept hoping for something that would make sense.
I got nada.
Zilch.
Bupkis.

The main characters, Tabitha and Zack, are dumb morons. I'm honestly pretty shocked with the ratings but I guess there are people who enjoy reading books with zero plot and characters who wouldn't find their own brain even if there was a whole search party involved.
But I am NOT one of them. Simple as that.

So let's start with Tabitha, Biff, Tabby Cat, Kitten or whatever her dumb name is.

We are told right from the get-go that she is a very posh girl, who comes from a really wealthy family who are the upper echelons of London. However, the way she speaks and behaves suggests more of nouveau riche with zero class, zero manners and vocabulary range so poor, she makes people from the Kyle Jeremy or Jerry Springer Show sound like highly educated and widely-read upper crust.

We don't know much about her, except for the fact she is into some sort of art, she drinks a lot, swears like a sailor, has zero interests whatsoever, is a really crappy friend and is more self-absorbed than one may think. She keeps complaining about her rich parents or some other nonsense and tries to rebel against them by finding a job at a tattoo parlour.

Enter Zach.

They meet, he tells her to fuck off right away and fires her on the spot for being too posh. So this dumb bitch dyes her hair pink and buys some leather clothes and comes back the next day. And when Zach sees her? Boom! SHE IS HIS!!!
*enter multiple eye rolls

He keeps treating her like trash and she not only allows him but also finds it sexy and irresistible. Yes, you heard me right. So he keeps fucking her throughout the story, insults her every possible way, treats her like a dirt under his nails and she likes it so much, she falls in love with him!

Seriously, calling her a doormat with zero self respect wouldn't even cover her actions.
I despised this character so much that I still can't find the right words to express that and I'm pretty much awed that it all came from a female writer.

Zach was no better.

He is a major arsehole. And not in a cute, brooding way. Nope. He is just a rude, selfish dickhead with zero redeeming qualities. Plus, he's a major misogynist with some serious anger issues that the author decided to portray as a "cute" driving force in the story, that our dumber than dumb heroine is supposed to tame. Ugh. I absolutely hated his character.

He, same like Tabitha, comes from a very wealthy family and, same like her, tries to rebel against that affluence that was given to him. Very mature, I know. He has his chain of tattoo salons all over England and America and he is a wealthy businessman. And here's something I don't understand.
Why did he keep it a secret from his family? Because that made zero sense since he admits that family is very important to him.

We have the breaking point for him when he discovers that his mother is not his biological mum, and of course our pathetic Tabitha comes to his rescue and saves the assholery day by putting out and encouraging him to use her body to blow off steam whenever he needs. May I add that it was right after he fucked her, shouted that he hated her right to her face right after she'd admitted she liked/ loved him and than he left without a word?
Cute, right?

All in all, this book promised enemies-to-lovers trope.
However, what it delivered was a hate-fuck-me trope with both main characters in desperate need of some serious, long-term therapy.

Not even one apology was uttered by Zach.

No trace of common sense or self respect can be found in our heroine.

What was the point of this stupid book?
Still dunno.

I'll just add that each copy should be sold with a bottle of some strong liquor because that's what you'll need to soothe your frustrations and calm your nerves after reading this so called romance.
I strongly disadvise.

It wasn't exactly the hate to love story I was wanting, but it was still an OK read.

I wanted Tabitha to have more of a backbone. Unfortunately she was one of those characters that got all dick dumb and let herself be fucked and left more than a couple times. I'm not a fan of these types of girls. The book says she holds her own against him. I completely disagree considering she landed on her back or up against a wall anytime Zach wanted her to.

What made it tolerable was that both MC's were likable and the story wasn't horrible. There were some editing issues but not enough to distract me from the story. The side characters all seemed interesting enough that I'll probably be picking up the second book when it is released.

Happy reading dolls! xx

The tattoo artist with a secret and a rich girl who wants to find herself.

Zach is damaged and brooding. He doesn’t fall for girls. He doesn’t let anyone get too close, until her.

Tabitha wants to live her own life against the resistance of her rich parents. She takes a job in a tattoo parlour as a receptionist. Little does she know the owner is the one person she loves to hate.

Zach is all alpha and he resists his fate the best he can.

Enemies to lovers. Hate you has hot chemistry and is a real page turner.

How is this book considered a romance?

The H pushed the h away after almost every interaction (mostly sex). She kept on being a doormat to his cruel behavior and tolerating it because he was just so hot. He was a selfish jerk that judged the h exactly how he had always hated feeling most of his life. He never intended to have anything meaningful with her and just wanted to ruin her just because he could (hated what she "represented"). They both continued to try to go out and sleep with others just to randomly end up with each other instead.

There was no history like the summary says as he had never met her back in school or knew his sisters' friends as he keeps a distance from his family. I sure can't remember most people from high school let alone my own grade. His treatment of his family was just uncalled for, especially his mother. She was a saint and truly loved him the most. I never really understood why he couldn't be in a relationship as he actually had a wonderful example in his parents and a loving family. I get feeling different or not feeling like you belong, but that doesn't mean that you can't find other solutions.

The half sister added toward the end felt like a random afterthought that the author included just so that she can most likely give her a book later in the series. There was also no meeting of the other parents. I felt jipped of that drama since the author had already practically thrown in the whole sink by that point.

This was literally a book about two childish individuals who just worked, drank, and then had sex for almost the whole book. They never had an actual meaningful conversation until the lies finally hit the fan. There behavior felt more like two teenagers instead of a college student and business owner who are working adults in their late 20's. If either of them had gotten therapy we could have skipped all the bs (practically the whole book).

I would have dnf super early on, but I will admit that the writing was good despite a few errors. How do I know? I kept reading despite wanting to stop. *Sigh* Being a finisher sure sucks sometimes. There went half my day on a book I couldn't stand.

"Her? You hired her as our admin? You can't be serious."
My eyes open so wide I'm afraid they might just pop out.
"She's awesome, Zack. Just give her a chance."
"You're fucking serious. Have you looked at her? She looks like she should be working a shift at a golf club, not a fucking tat studio."

This author's got some mad skils. The way she tells a story... Sucks you right in. Her heroes are always a bit moody, angry, bully-ish, but they also makes us drop our panties with just a snap of their fingers.

Zack is living his life the best way he knows how by not seing his posh family and certainly by not telling them he's a business man and not a thug. He prefers it that way.
Tabitha is a bit poshy, born into this kind of world. And she hates it! One day she sees a sign that an admin is wanted in a tattoo studio and she takes a breath, opens the door and steps in. She gets the job on the spot. But little does she know, the boss man doesn't have a clue. When he sees her there, he's not happy at all. In fact he wants her gone. She refuses to back away though.

And the games begin.
They hate each other. But where there's hate there's also love, right?

Absolutely amazing. Can't wait for the next one.

It was a good read but idk, it didn't completely pull me in the way I hoped it would. It felt more of a one-time read for me rather than seeing myself rereading it in the future, but I still liked the romance between Zach and Tabitha! I'm so excited to continue the series tho. I loved the side characters in this book. <3

The hate love in this story is just amazing! This was one of the books by this author that I had left to read so I jumped straight into this one and omg , what a ride it was!

Zach has kept away from his family and what he has does for a living. He has never felt like he belonged and was judge. He didn't want what went with his last name and rebelled against it.

Tabitha needs a job and her luck seems to work at a tattoo parlor. That is until she meets her boss and comes face to face with the man she went to high school with. But the thing is he doesn't remember her and the cherry on the top is that he hates her after having one look at her.
Zach knows that Tabitha is everything her hates in a woman and he knows better than to get close to he. If only he could tell his body that. He is attracted to her and it doesn't take him long to realize that he might have misjudged her but now it was too late.

His insecurities were too much and Tabitha knew that Zach would one day destroy her. If only she could tell her heart that which was slowly falling for the one person who hated her and did not want anything to do with her.

The plotline and the characters are just amazing! Zach and Tabitha are pure fire and all the enemies to lovers romance people need to read this book!

Hate You By Tracy Lorraine

5 fire meets gasoline ⭐️

This book save my reader life cuz I have not so good experience prior to grab this baby and I was scare that I didn’t end up liking it but I was SO WRONG , I love every second of it , It was a delicious enemies to lovers with the right amount of hotness in it.

This couple were pure dynamite together , they became my favorite couple right now and this is my favorite book from this author too. The tension was so well building, they story felt so good.

I love that Tabitha was everything Zach´s despite on a person , she represents every little thing that he hates but not even that can’t make this two not to fall for each other. It’s been a long time since I last enjoy an enemies to lovers , Thanks God Tracy Lorraine just save my love for this trope. Looking forward to read more of these Rebel Ink Guys ♥️

3/5 Stars 🌟

20200423-230546

I enjoyed this story, it was fiery, passionate, aggrevating and intense at times with a twist in the story I did not see coming but I don't think the flow of it worked for me. This might be a case of it's not you it's me as I truly have enjoyed all other books I've read by Tracy Lorraine and this one was written well but for me it was just ok.

Both main charcters frustrated me to no end with the constant back and forth, hot and cold behaviour and for majority of the book I couldn't connect with them as they never stopped long enough to be together before their inner thoughts and feelings got in the way. I understand why they were the way they were being gaurded, distant and sometimes cruel but I just needed a little more. That is a big thing for me when reading a story, I need to be able to connect to the main couple to truly feel their story. They had a physical connection but I needed more of an emotional connection.

Tabitha I would've liked to have seen push Zach back some more intsead of giving in each time even though majority of the book he was so cold to her. She woukd stand up to him when it came to work and I loved that but when they were alone she would fall for his pull everytime. Zach was such a conflicted character and when it came to Tabitha it felt like he wanted her all to himself but also did want her at all. He was a little to alpha for my liking especially in the beginning when he still didn't like Tabitha but felt the need to claim her. His character grew on me quickly and I ended up loving him.

I loved the way the story ended so that is why I still ended up enjoying this book and would reccomend it to anyone who enjoys a good enemies to lovers romance with some forbidden elements. The set up to the next book/couple intrigued me alot and I can't wait to read what their story entails.

I don't know what it is but I always love books about tattoo artists. I guess I like reading about tattoed guys as much as I like looking at them ;) ;)

Hate You was a captivating, sexy and entertaing story. It's both an enemies to lovers and a bff's brother romance and y'all this combo is great! I adored Tabitha. I loved how she got her spunk and decided to stop worrying about what her parents would say and just be her self, and I loved it even more that it was Zack that made her do it! Their hate and banter was so much fun to read and made this story super entertaining. But there was so much more beyond that, Tabitha was hiding a lot of secrets, from Zack and for Zack and that was bound to blow in her face at some point. That and the fact that Zack was a complete jerk towards her made this story a touch angsty and y'all know how much I love my angst.

Hate You was an awesome read full of sexy ink, fun banter, awesome friends, secrets and so much more. I already fell in love with the Rebel Ink world and cannot wait for more. More than loving the two main characters, I loved the other tattoo artists and I hope they all get their own story told.

This book really surprised me. I freaking loved Biff and Zach so much! Right away the chemistry and the banter between these two was amazing. This was such a great hate to love romance and we get tattoos as well. Biff just lost her grandma who was always the one trying to get her to forge her own path in the world and not just do what her parents say. So she goes to a tattoo parlor and gets a job there. She just doesn't know that Zach, former bad boy of her high school, is the owner of the parlor. These two absolutely hate each other at the beginning of the book. And honestly for most of the book we get that hate undercurrent. There are so many parts in this book that both the MCs keep messing things up, but honestly I still really enjoyed this book.

What you get:

~Best friend's brother
~Boss/employee relationship

Hate You is the first book in a brand new series by Tracy Lorraine. When I first saw the blurb for this one, I knew it was the book for me. I honestly love angsty love stories filled with strong sexual tension and crazy back and forth between the two leads. And GOOD LORD, the sexual tension was physically oozing off of the pages. This author can write some really good intense chemistry. Zach and Tabitha aka Biff's love/hate relationship was amusing, addicting and sizzling hot. If you're looking for an entertaining best friend's brother/enemies-to-lovers romance, then look NO FURTHER. You're going to want to read this. Five stars for Zach, Biff and Hate You!

Would have been a 4 if the heroine held out longer and didn't always succumb to the H. I did like the story though and the H was okay. He grew on me but that didn't happen until 75% of the book.

Triggers and safety warnings:
- Minor OW/OM drama (h gets a lap dance from a male stripper and goes out on 2 dates with him , H has a female friend who implies she had sex with him to the h )
- No cheating between mcs
- Loss of a parent (side character)
- H came off as a manwhore but not one who purposely seeks out women to collect.

So Zach is the outcast of the Abot family, the prodigal son. His family thinks that all he does is wasting his money on girls and booze. But none of them knows that he is actually a businessman. He is the owner of a very famous tattoo salon chain. He never wanted to be a part of his family business; he actually hates the prestigious lifestyle they lead. So art was his escape and passion.

Tabitha hates her parents, well, she actually loves them but she hates that they always push her to do things they want. They don’t care what she loves or what she doesn’t love, they want her to find a suitable husband who will provide for her, they basically want her to be a trophy wife. The only person who ever understood her was her grandma. She always encouraged her to do what she wanted because life is short.

"𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒇𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕. 𝑭𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆. 𝑺𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒍𝒚, 𝑻𝒂𝒃𝒃𝒚 𝑪𝒂𝒕.”

When the opportunity comes for Tabitha to rebel, she takes it. She starts working in a tattoo salon and discovers that that’s what she really likes. A few days working there, she finds out that Zach Abot /her best friend’s brother/ the asshole from her high school is the owner of that salon.
There’s instant spark and chemistry between them. However, Zach hates everything Tabitha stands for. He sees her as the posh girl who wants attention, but soon he’ll find out that she is exactly like him she just wants to live and do whatever she wants.

“𝑰’𝒗𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒅𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒇𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒚𝒐𝒖, 𝑻𝒂𝒃𝒃𝒚 𝑪𝒂𝒕.”
“𝑶𝒉 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒉,” 𝑰 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆. “𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒉, 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝑰’𝒗𝒆 𝒇𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏 𝒊𝒏 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒅.”

I really loved everything about these two, the push and pull game they played and the undeniable attraction, it was just perfect. There were few surprises that I didn’t see coming, but it was exactly what Zach and Tabitha needed. Also, I would’ve loved to see Tabitha’s parents reaction when they see Zach, unfortunately that was not included in the book.

This book was really enjoyable and fun to read, go grab a copy!
You won’t regret it I swear!!

I kind of liked it. I kind of thought it was very cliche. But I kind of really liked Zach. He was broody and possessive but the blurb promised me dirty talk and it didn’t deliver.

This may have something to do with the fact that the last book I read (ahem Cooper ~ see my previous reviews) D.E.L.I.V.E.R.E.D. On the kind of dirty talk I like.
This also promised an enemies to lovers and I still don’t k ow why they were enemies except for the fact he didn’t like her because she came from money. They were never really enemies just he was a bit aloof and a mindfuck towards her. He had sex with her then pushed her away. There was no real enemies here (sigh ~ will I ever find anything to rival Vicious/Ruckus or Bully/Rival?? ~ I need to find SOMETHING!!)

Anyway like I said it’s okay, there’s some steam but every scene was an exact replica of the last. Except for the night of the wedding but even that somehow fell a little flat.

Ugh book slump here I am
