"Tell me, what are you afraid of? Tell me the darkest nightmare that shatters your sleep and leaves you shaking in fear, wild-eyed, sheets clinging to your sweat-slick skin".

Sound of Fear: A Suspense Mystery Novel (Alma Book 1)
By Levi Fuller

I will be frank. I liked the book. I liked it far more than I had thought I would. I sort of accidently chose this one. I w as craving a mystery, downloaded it but then forgot about it and did not read it for months.

I have now finished it and I liked the concept..I am usually not a fan of Serial Killer books although I sure seem to be reading may of them now.

Many times they are simply to gory for me or to much like Criminal Minds, a show I kind of like but stopped watching because it was so brutal and disturbing.

This was better then alot of what I call "the serial killer" genre but I am not rating it above a two. Why?

Because it's a series! So there is not a real ending! Nothing is wrapped up. OK..I can deal with that and was about to go no to part two..until I read other reviews and realized there's like FIVE BOOKS! Sorry but..That is to much serial killer for me. I want the killer to get their just desserts and I will also say I was deeply impressed by the writing and the unusual plot.

This is a book where the reader KNOWS who did it..almost from page one..and the killer is someone who has a life that..well..you'd never expect a serial killer to have.

But this series thing has bothered me with other books too. I am not a Series person by nature although I love some series, like The Hunger Games. But FIVE BOOKS?? It is way to much..I may read the last one but yet another review says there is more to come so honestly..why? I mean..there are to many great books out there and I do not want to spend weeks of my life, essentially reading the same one waiting for killer to get caught.

I might be rating this a 5 if it was a one book thing. It was gripping and though Gory, somehow it kept me reading at a fast pace. The writing is unique and the story both twisted and different. And there are not to many characters as dark as this particular serial killer.

It is disturbing too. I really am torn here. But I am sorry I cannot get through most series at THREE books so how could I possibly do five..or six..or more?

Three stars for this one and recommend to fans of twisted mysteries with great writing that are a series.

I really liked this story and look forward to reading more of the series. It’s a good concept with a serial killer that’s like a little “Dexter” thrown in the mix minus the vigilante spin. If you like crime mysteries or crime fiction you will like this novella. Most of the characters are pretty likable. There are a few areas where things are repeated a bit which is distracting but it isn’t as bad as some novels I have read in the past.

I give this a solid four stars and recommend it!

Very Enjoyable mystery/suspense
A perfectly enjoyable mystery/suspense with the hunt on for a serial killer. The cat and mouse story and who is exactly being hunted were all brought out perfectly well. The twists and the turns kept the book unpredictable till the very end. Violet’s character – especially as she is trying to get behind the serial killer has been etched very well.

Cliffhanger. If I need to say more then you are Okay without an ending or willing to read further into a series. Although I liked this book I was disappointed with the ending and mad that there was no up front warnings.

thriller

My first time reading a book by this author. I would recommend to anyone that likes thriller type books. Not my typical genre but it held my attention

Page turner

My problem with these books in a series is the author gets lazy about giving the reader an ending. He/she thinks you will continue to buy their books in order to gain completion somewhere along the line. But it just continues to lead nowhere so I will stop at this first book. As much as I enjoyed it, I will not be led. I am only buying stand alone books from now on once all series books are completrd

You've Got to be Kidding!

At first, the plot seemed plausible. The descriptions were vivid. Then, the author introduced the spiders galore scene. What occurred after that was incomprehensible. Later, I kept wondering how was this going to end since we already knew which character was the killer. Lastly, it's a cliffhanger!!! Really?

Somewhat disappointed. The grammatical errors were frequent and annoying, also the ending was abrupt and left you hanging like a series. Looking for more. I liked how it was developing and suddenly it was over.

Alma is a dangerous person, always 1 steep ahead of the Police.
Marmet Kanawha County, WV. Jr. Detective Violet Turner (VCB) & Sergeant Detective Mark Decleor (VCB) were wrapping up their unsolved Case: # 836628.
Ellis Cadeen (43, husband/father) had left behind 3 kids, & Heather Cadeen (wife/mother).
He had been murdered.

Who would be the next victim?
Kanawha Forest. Jr. Detective Turner, Sergeant Detective Decleor, & Dr. Dhillan Chais (Lead Forensic Analyst) & his team had arrived at the crime scene.
The body had been ID as Jane Luton (24, David's fiancé).
Because of an internal incident, Detective Turner had been relieved of her duties, but then was arrested.
Detective Greg Orlo (Twin brother Montgomery PD) & Detective Harry Orlo (Twin brother
Montgomery PD) were assigned to monitor her case.
The Luton case is no longer active.
There is a John Doe in the morgue.
Boone County PD was doing a follow up on 3 missing teens.
There were more cases to try & solve.

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written Suspense book. It was extremely easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another Suspense great movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

Thank you for the free author; Blue Scallop Digital LLC.; BookFunnel; PDF book.

Great suspense from start to end noting the evil serial killer has not been identified by police in this first novella however readers know who it is . For me , I was put off by the story featuring near impossible events and circumstances ( i.e. it was “ a bit far fetched !” ) . Good story though . At first time I started writing a short review I thought I might pass on buying the next night novella in the series . However after trading towards the end of the book ‘ About the Author ‘ , I liked his honesty of saying words to the effect “ I enjoying sitting on the end of the wharf , drinking beer , and watching the ducks swim buy”. I can relate to that activity very much so as a result I will consider purchasing and download Mr Fuller‘ s next book . Ha !!!

a small county has a disproportionate number of murders. Each is different in terms of location, mode and method. Violet just made detective and is distraught when one of her close friends is a target. Little does she know that it is someone the police know and trust behind the slaughters.

I didn't love this book but it grew on me. Told from different perspectives, it is somewhat clumsy. The killer who is identified to the reader probably is the most interesting. Violet is an annoying potty mouth and the other characters are central casting. Not a bad read but nothing is resolved in the stay tuned for the next book ending. 2.5 stars

I enjoyed this story very much but dislike very much the author's blatant attempt at getting more money from us by not finishing the story, you have to keep buying each of the novella's in the series to find out the conclusion.
I got sucked in until book 4, Levi's last until the final Vision of Fear story comes out in mid-August and will most likely get the next one... but never again. If this is how this author makes his money - by sucking people in, hooking them on the story, no matter how well written it is, I will not read their work again.

Was looking forward to this one as it has a good premise. Unfortunately the cliff hanger ending was sad. Even the killer admits not all of their cases were done by the main killer so why not solve at least one of the murders to allow the reader to believe the group of detectives is even somewhat competent. How do they warrant an entire expensive building when the cannot solve even one murder in a year. The novella shares no true competency of this group other than their ability to date one another. I wanted to like this and didn't mind the writing but hated the non-ending.

Serial, Not Series

Each book in a series has a complete story arc which fits within the series story arc. Each book can stand alone. The story, characters, and writer's skill draw readers into the series.

Each book in a serial is but a part of one long story. The first book MIGHT stand alone as a novella but the succeeding books can never stand alone.

I like these characters and where the story might be headed but I'm not interested in getting involved with a serial.

I know this is the first book out of this particular series and I am hopeful given that I have liked previous books by this author but so far this one seems to jump around a lot, it’s a little hard to follow, and surprisingly, there are quite a few errors. I very much like the concept especially since we know who the killer is from the get-go, and I am hopeful that as the series progresses, it will keep my attention more and more.

Just when the story started to pick up it ended. I got the vague notion the killer was a vampire or type of human eating creature. Not really my choice of story. I found it hard to follow with all the different characters.
Maybe if it was a movie and you could see the actors it might have been easier to follow, for me anyway.
I am assuming the next novel carries on from here. ??
Good luck

Mystery

Twists and turns that keep the reader interested and the book seems shorter for the page turners. The book is about 135 pages and the mystery has not been solved by the end, but you are able to move on to the next book to find out if the killer stops ( unlikely) or goes for broke.

An excellent beginning to a new series. This story is told via the killer and the detectives trying to find out the connection between the victims. Manu murders have been committed without anything bringing forward a suspect. Then the killer gets sloppy and the team finally finds a connection. The book ends and now I need to read the next one.

Marmet. Sergeant detective Mark Decleor and detective Violet Turner investigate a series of murders. Alma, a killer who knows your nightmares and fears. Unfortunately that that is how you will die.
The killer is identified early on, and none of the characters are really likeable.

Not bad...

I enjoyed the plot well enough to want to read the next book. It does, however, have a great deal of spelling mistakes which always annoys me in a book. Where's the proofreader? Wear instead of where...

A decent murder suspense thriller. The action starts from page one and continues to the end. A murderer in plain site, but the police are clueless. Will the police find a connection and make an arrest? Maybe, maybe not. Ending inconclusive. Some good characters, worth reading.

A unique tale of terror

I keep going to the next book because this killer ( and the author) scare the hell out of me. Why do I need to read the next book??? Because I need to know how, why and if the killer gets caught!! Crazy good book.

Cliffhanger

The idea that we know who the killer is from the get is new and refreshing. However, the abrupt "ending" of the novel seemed like the author just stopped without completing the story.

No Ending, left Hanging!

Any author who drags readers through entertaining action, building toward an expected climax and then stops without an ending will never again trick me into reading anything else he writes!

An enthralling story

A riveting read about murder, and a murderer who had a special method of selecting the victims. I liked the way that the culprit hid in full view of the crime fighters. I will be reading the next book in the series.

Great police thriller

This story kept me on your toes until the end. Lots of action and suspense. Can't believe the killer is a co-worker in their midst. Can't wait to read the next book and see if they finally catch the killer.

Well let’s just say there is a lot of twists and turns. It had me on edge, I really enjoyed it. But…. It does leave off on a cliffhanger and I didn’t know it was a series. So I guess I’ll have to continue to read the next book, because this author does have my attention and I need more!
