From his website: I'm a man on a mission to rescue people from the awful dieting industry. I am sick and tired of people struggling on low calorie diets and meal replacement shakes.
I created this plan to educate people and give them the knowledge they need to get a lean, healthy strong body without going hungry.
The 90 Day SSS Plan has already worked for over 100,000 people all over the world and I truly believe this plan will transform your life and the way you see nutrition forever. source: https://www.thebodycoach.com/about.asp
Finished "PART ONE: THE BASICS" before starting my baby's weaning journey. Straight-forward, simple, practical and rather relaxed guide about the most important aspects to consider. To give a better & fuller review, will have to try the recipes.
This gave me lots of useful tips for when I start weaning. I haven't made the recipes yet but there are definitely a handful that look good but simple and some that the whole family might like!!
I got this from the library for some recipe ideas and skipped over a lot of the advice as it’s not based on baby led but spoon feeding, so is not relevant for me. At 7 months we are eating family meals together that are at 12 months in this book.
There are some interesting recipes and ideas however - mashed banana with tahini and cinnamon is a favourite now, but skip putting sweet potato slices in your toaster, it’s ridiculous and not worth the effort. There are quite a few I’m looking forward to trying like Very Green Curry and also Butternut & Kidney Bean Quesadillas which incorporate really healthy ingredients but sound tasty.
The overall tone of the book is a bit pretentious. Who owns a fish slice for flipping things over, what’s wrong with a spatula? Some of the ingredients are not something we’d normally use. And the recommended Chinese 5 spice can only be obtained at Waitrose so that’s an indicator of who this book is aimed at. It’s also mostly not “quick and easy”, and some of the recipes made me laugh which were described as such.
Like most recipe books I will be taking some ideas and leaving what doesn’t appeal. There are other baby led books I’ve found much more useful.
I saw this on the library shelf, and the title made me laugh so much I had to read it 😂
Does what it says on the cover. Joe advocates for veg first baby led weaning, with a combination approach of finger foods and mashed. To be honest, he’s basically written Charlotte Stirling-Reed’s advice with his name on it, switched some of the veg, and added a few personal stories. There’s also a great rant on how much he hates kids menus.
I really love the ideas in this book and the approach to baby-led weaning. I found it inspiring and useful. But having now tried many of the recipes, a lot of them are just not quite right. The quantities are out and the dish doesn’t end up quite being what it should - and I am following them pretty faithfully. I’ve found that if I use the idea of the recipe and adapt it, I’m more more likely to get success...
Baby weaning is quite an overwhelming journey for any new parent but this book uses real-life experiences to offer great advice and tips. Loads of recipes too - some more fussy and time consuming than others but the summaries at the top look handy as there will be times when “longer meal” is one to skip when you’re time poor. We’ll do our best to prep like pros and have some ready-made stuff in the freezer!
Evidence based and nutritionally varied. The recipes really do work and we've all sat down to eat plenty of these together as a whole family. People are surprised when I tell them the variety of things my 1 year old likes to eat and it's pretty much down to this book! Just watch me eat my words once we get to the toddler years...
Brillant book to help you wean your baby. There are loads of fantastic recipes, although too many with eggs in as my baby can’t eat eggs and no egg alternatives on the recipes with eggs. The intro pages are super helpful too.
Good ideas and food for thought backed up with research, some parts seem a bit extreme for day to day, but it gives good ideas and tips for both purées and baby led weaning
