A fast-paced western yarn that is hard to put down! Texas in the 1880's offered both opportunity and danger. Mike Stone comes to Texas to avoid the gunfighter reputation he had acquired in New Mexico. He finds adventure and danger as he settles in near Austin with an unexpected inheritance and a beautiful new neighbor. He finds it hard to put the guns away when the Texas Rangers come calling. You'll enjoy this western mystery with a touch of intrigue and echoes of a famous outlaw from Texas history.
Patrick Lindsay came to Texas by way of Missouri, Canada, and California and has been proud to call the Lone Star State his home for more than forty years now. He retired in 2017 from “another life” as a CPA, whereafter he turned his hand to writing.
He has read just about everything by Louis L’Amour and first decided to give Western writing a try on his initial day of retirement. He has been writing ever since and loves the idea that so many people get enjoyment from his work.
Patrick and his wife Michelle live on a cattle ranch near Fort Worth along with cows, horses, chickens, and a very spoiled Great Pyrenees dog. He is an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals in baseball and the Kansas City Chiefs in football.
I received a free copy via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review. This is a good Western and reads like a real old fashioned story. The characters are engaging and the story line has plenty of action. If you enjoy a Western this will be for you.
Sam Bass’ stolen railroad money might be buried on the old partner’s remote land
Two old timers, mountain men partners, deed their land to two young people who have no idea who each other are, yet find many interests in common. The young woman is threatened by one of the Sam Bass gang members, a stone cold cold killer who now leads his own gang and plots to kill both young owners to gain control the remote property as a temporary hideout. Excellent characters, fascinating twists and well worth the time.
I liked it! It felt like I was reading an old time western. There is the twist of a land deal with a cowboy and a lady that teaches school. There is the villain in the form of the robbers. The Texas Rangers are the law man. And the ending wraps it all up into a good finish. I do like the old type of western and this one caught my attention and held it.
I love westerns. Started reading them when I was younger when my uncles shared them with me. This title/author seem to be printed backwards but it did not affect the quality of the book. A good wholesome western that included all the required action and characters to make a GOOD western story come to life. I'll read more by this author if I can figure out the names.
I Enjoyed everything about this book there was nothing I didn't like about the book. I Like the setting, the writing style, the plot, the plot twists and the characters in the book were amazing.I would gladly reread it again.
Excellent read left me wanting more. I could see this becoming an on going story. First time reading something written by Patrick Lindsay. Won’t be the last time if this story is an indication of what to expect with his stories.
This was a good read that keeps getting better as it goes along. The story has more twists and turns than a corkscrew, but it all comes together nicely in the end.
Patrick writes great stories which deserve 5 Star ratings; I just wish for shorter paragraphs which sometimes go for 2-3 pages on my kindle which I sometimes get lost in or skip some lines.
