Danny Iny (@DannyIny) is the founder of Mirasee, host of the Business Reimagined podcast, best-selling author of multiple books including Engagement from Scratch!, The Audience Revolution, and Teach and Grow Rich, and creator of the acclaimed Audience Business Masterclass and Course Builder’s Laboratory training programs, which have together graduated over 5,000 value-driven online entrepreneurs.

All of this grew out of humble beginnings; he started out just like most online entrepreneurs, with an idea and message to share, and no idea how to do it. He made several wrong turns – which he calls “plot twists” in the Audience Revolution – before really understanding the Audience First paradigm, and how to apply it to online business.

And when he did, it was like lighting a match to a fuse. Back in 2011, he started Firepole Marketing with less than nothing; he had no traffic, no subscribers, no relationships with any influencers in the industry, and over a quarter million dollars in personal debt, left over from his last failed startup.

In just a few short years, he’s transformed Firepole Marketing into Mirasee, grown the business to multiple-seven figures in revenue and a team of 30+ people spread all over the world (including his talented wife) on a mission to support very special global community of 50,000+ loyal and inspired entrepreneurs.

Danny has maintained a passionate commitment to learning and transparency, freely sharing lessons learned from great successes, major challenges, and even his personal life to support the online entrepreneurial community as a teacher, speaker, angel investor, and advisor to many of the top leaders in our industry, who have Danny on speed-dial when they need help with their business or strategy.

This has a few tidbits but it's a marketing book the reader will buy more of his services. I found it to be taking too much of my time and saying too little. I did take away 3 things but got these 3 things in on a free blog that took me 12 minutes to read -- the same stuff.

Enjoyed reading at a business coach's recommendation

As a small business owner who currently only offers services, I was initially hesitant to dive into the world of online courses. However, my business coach spoke so highly of all the lessons of "Teach Your Gift," and I saw so many with businesses similar to mine also offering courses, I finally read this book. "Teach Your Gift" indeed provides clear and actionable steps for developing and launching successful online courses.

I particularly appreciated the author's emphasis on the importance of identifying your target audience and creating content that meets their specific needs. I also found the tips on pricing and marketing your courses to be invaluable.

While I haven't yet launched my own online courses, I believe that "Teach Your Gift" has equipped me with the knowledge and tools I need to do so successfully for future professional and community service projects. I also find the lessons of the book useful for my current business development and marketing endeavors.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to expand their business or share their expertise with a wider audience.

One of the best books I've read for two reasons: Research and Practicality

It's not the easiest thing in the world to get a 5 star rating for me. I loved this book for a few reasons and but the main ones were the immediate practicality of the examples given for planning out your 1st course (which technically should be called the appetizers), but also the ability to take the learnings he has had and seen with his clients and apply it to a variety of course types, which in my case would likely deal with web technology.

I found my questions answered, like how to get your first registrants and the pros AND cons of online courses. I also benefited from the thought experiments around the 3 S's at the end.

His writing style was refreshing, and I did not find yourself getting bored by theoretical psycho babble, only applicable workable words.

I found this a well-structured guide to setting up and marketing an online course. While the book helped me decide that an online course is not the right step for my business at present, it is a resource I will definitely return to in greater detail when I do decide to create such a course. Very helpful content.

I took my time reading this, but it gave me good insights and tips. I am quite sure I will reread and keep it to look things up. Really good material for learning how to teach, online but also offline (if you're not a teacher, I guess, then you probably already know lots of these things, though I can imagine even then you might find some helpful advice)

Very light on practical advice

Even after getting half way through I found little of practical benefit. Too many stories and not enough genuinely useful advice.

If you've been thinking about creating an online course, reading this book first may be a big help. Danny Iny, the founder and CEO of Mirasee, outlines some of the keys to creating a successful online course business.

The book contained some key concepts about the steps to follow for successful course creation. It focuses on creating a minimal product, co-creating with your learners, and not spending a lot of time creating your first course (and, hopefully, avoiding the pitiful of wasting time creating a course that will not be profitable and helpful to students).

The book does not go into a lot of detail and is somewhat of a jumping-off point for the author's other course creation business services. But even with the plugs for additional services that sprinkled throughout the book, there is still enough meat to give you some good ideas for how to proceed.
You will also find a six-step process for creating a successful online course:

1. Validate Demand
2. Identify Minimum Viable Scope
3. Plan Your Pilot
4. Pre-Sell Your Course
5. Deliver
6. Pivot, Iterate, or Scale

In addition to the steps above, here are some of the key ideas I got from the book:

* There are two teaching paradigms: the paradigm of information and the paradigm of education. The former paradigm provides details about a topic; the latter seeks to teach the learner how to do something.

* Information is freely available, but providing an education comes at a higher cost. When creating a course, don't just give the students information; they can get information anywhere. Instead, educate your students on the topic so that they learn something they didn't already know and transform in the process.

* Just teaching about something is providing information. Educating involves supplying supplemental learning materials and coaching and helps the learner transform in some way.

* For your first course, create a minimal viable course and co-create the remainder of the content of the course with your students adding content that they tell you they need as they progress through the course.

I may not agree with the entire process laid out in the book, but I think it is a useful process to consider. If you're ready to create your first online course, consider picking up and reading this short book first.

Good advice, well structured, and easy to follow.

As someone who has completed many online courses, I read this book not with a view of starting my own course, but to gain a better understanding of the thinking behind them. This book was a surprisingly interesting read.

A thorough and thoughtful book about online teaching that is appropriate for the current climate of pandemic-inspired home education. Iny gives an honest view inspired by his own life and experience.

At times, it hammers home the 'marketing' angle a little too strong, with a decidedly American take on how to grow a business And the author includes some strangely bold writing, such as "let's take the most basic piece of technology: a telephone" - I personally think of the telephone as quite an advanced piece of technology, and certainly far more advanced than basic technologies like, for example, a stick.

Still, despite the shortcomings, the book is full of relevant information for teaching online and a strong methodology that challenges the educational status quo. Worth a read if the area is of interest.

'Teach your Gift' is a good primer for people who want to learn more about online education and Danny Iny's expertise as an entrepreneur shines through. If you're looking to be sold on the concept and want thought-provoking strategies on how to test if there's an appetite in the market for your idea, then 'Teach Your Gift' is a great starting point. Unfortunately, because Danny Iny's work was recommended by two entrepreneurs I respect, I expected more. I was after practical information on how to design a course something which this short book only addresses in its final pages. I guess I see why the author saves that for the people who pay for his online masterclass.

Danny Iny is brilliant, and his latest book illustrates it. I've heard his message many times, but this is the clearest, most concise and understandable it's ever been.

If you're an educator, a parent, or especially an entrepreneur wanting to get in on the online courses gold rush, read this book.
