And ever since his days in the Navy SEALS, it had been ingrained in him to just keep his mouth shut and get the job done. Since the passing of his wife and the mother of his child, Mason had retreated even further inward.
But now, there was someone new in his life that was methodically picking away at his icy exterior.
Her name was Raina, and although they had worked alongside each other for years in the private contractor outfit called Onyx, Mason was just now opening up enough to allow her to get close.
Perhaps, it was the fact that his daughter, Clara, had just left the nest to attend Stanford that encouraged him to make the leap, but Mason had opened his heart to the chance of love once again. It wasn’t easy for him, but he was finally learning to give and receive a kind of affection he thought that he had lost forever.
It was right when Mason opened himself up to the vulnerability of these intense emotions that seven girls go missing from Clara’s school and one turns up dead.
There is something evil lurking in the background of Mason’s new attempt at living a happy and loving life, and as his own daughter gets mixed up with a sex trafficking ring, his entire world threatens to come crashing down on him.
A Navy SEALs daughter is going to Stanford. When her roommate, and 6 other women disappear, it's lucky the SEAL is working for a federal contractor, known as ONYX. The local police chief is more interested in hushing things up than actually finding the girls.
It's all shallow and predictable, with several TSTL moments.
This is a good book but I am bit disappointed to read book #5 after a cracker of a book which is book #4. It seems kind of repetitive that Clara gets into a problem and Mason makes it as a case for ONYX and saving her daughter. Even though they brought down sex trafficking ring, same old Clara getting into trouble starts to get boring.
And for someone who trained with someone as Mason and also having some experience in getting kidnapped, Clara seems so eager to trust somebody without a hint of doubt. And I don't know whether its cliche or something but Clara getting the training as she got should be more attentive.

As a reader I felt book 5 of the Mason Walker series was the weakest one yet. The book deserves 4 stars, but it still recycled the kidnapping and sex slave theme from previous books in the series. How many times can Mason‘a daughter Clara get kidnapped? If Mason’s daughter needs a boyfriend, how about Kyle? Recommended, but not as strongly as before.
A book full of adventure and thrilling moments of suspense. It draws you in and keeps you reading. It keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next turn of events.
Vengeful fire by Alex Howell. This is book 6 of the Mason Walker series. I really enjoyed this book. Lots of action. Love Mason character. Hope there is more to come. 4*.
