Falls into a major SciFi plothole of an alien species wanting raw resources from Earth's surface. If you know ANYTHING about the makeup of our solar system then you know that the only thing that can't be found elsewhere in the solar system is our ecosystem. Even raw biomass may be present elsewhere such as Titan...
Trans-uranics? Star-lifting and fusion. Fusion fuel? Jupiter. Metals? Asteroids and all of Mercury for starters. Water and exotic ice? Oort cloud, Kuiper Belt, Comets, Neptune and Uranus. Raw power? Statite arrays over the Sun with microwave beamed power relays. This is all 'near-future' tech for us and yet our Alien overlords who are FTL capable don't use it? Doesn't float, sorry.
Aside from that MAJOR plot grievance which I have, you're going to see further plot development of the characters and a transitioning away from the horror which the Citadel carried to a "we need to save the world and get our bodies back" narrative, complete with the "heroic outsider fighting to save those who despise her existence" character archetype.
I'm desperately trying not to hammer on the book too hard but I can't help but feel let down by this sequel.
