The Ancestor's Inheritance: A romantic family mystery uncovered by modern day internet genealogy

Rate this book
The story line was borne out of the current global passion for genealogical research and the anomalies and pitfalls which one might encounter on the journey of discovery to unlock family history and its secrets. The story is cross-generational following the lives of twins, The Reverend Harry and Megan Russell in the fictional village of Llanpetroc in the Brecon Beacons and the complications and relationships of country parish life. Each alternate chapter reveals the unfolding story of Lewis Rhydderch, a 19th Century Iron Master and of his rise to riches against the social struggles of Victorian industrial and rural Wales, taking the reader on a family journey of love and loss. I have illustrated the story with my experiences of understanding Welsh place names, customs and cultural contexts, alongside my knowledge of parish life (I am married to a Church of England clergyman!) The story line strongly develops as the mysteries and discoveries unfold.

This genealogical mystery book wasn’t bad. The story and characters were okay but it badly needed formatting. I read it on my kindle and it was terrible. Sentences cut out midway through and resumed on the next line. When a character spoke, there would be a full stop followed by: ‘Exclaimed …’ or ‘Said…’. It was like the first draft was published prior to any formatting or editing.

This made it extremely hard to read and became very distracting. It took away a lot of the enjoyment and replaced it with frustration. If there’s another book published for kindle by this author, I hope they or someone else takes the time to edit and format the book prior to publication.

Well Gabrielle Young certainly had my full attention through out this book. The characters are very strong, some humbler than others but we know why!
A must for geneology fiction fans.
Had I had the time, this book would have been finished earlier than I had.
