Rate this book
Alex is about to go on her most terrifying ride yet… her first date.

After saving Middang3ard from the Dark One’s killer meteor, it’s time for Team Boundless to have a wee bit of much-needed R & R. Jim has taken Alex on a picnic. Their first official date.

An alien ship comes crashing down from the sky.

Without warning they see a comet streak across the sky. But its no ordinary comet. Whatever has fallen from space is mechanical in nature. Alex and Jim investigate.

They’re not the only ones interested in the fallen ship.

As they approach, the Dark One’s army has come out in force to claim the wreckage. Whatever it is, the Dark One wants it bad, which can mean only one thing: the forces of Middang3ard need to get it first. But Alex and Jim are alone – will their combined strength be enough?

I woke up this morning, to an almost dead battery on my phone, so wasn't able to write my review for book 7, 'Sacrifices', until I got battery life.

So what could I do while I waited?

As this is me, of course I went on to read this next book of the series and, much to my surprise, I finished it just as my phone had built up enough charge for me to switch it on again!

So, I just finished writing the review for 'Sacrifices', and I'm going straight on to write the review for Book 8: 'Love and Aliens'!

This book started. with Alex feeling quite antsy: both from her recovery after the huge battle that cost her an arm, but also because Jim, the human Mech rider, who she'd known for years while playing the Middeng3ard game, had asked her out on a date.

This wasn't just any date - this was her very first date, ever!

So, she says yes, despite also secretly wishing that the dark elf, Gill, had asked her, instead - or, maybe, too?

When the first free day. comes, when everyone in the Wasp's Nest is given the day free, except a skeleton crew, which included the Pixie, Jollies, and the Gnome, Brath, Alex and Jim set off to a place somewhere distance from the Nest, that Gill had recommended to Jim.

On their way, Alex and Jim come across a group of Pixies, being chased by a very strange group of Giants, that seemed like giants from antiquity.

Of course, neither Alex, Chine, or Jim, could pass by, without helping, and this begins a day fraught with violence, and then peace, but which ends up with Alex, Chine, & Jim being in the wrong place, at the right time, to observe yet another incursion from space - though, this time, thankfully, NOT another asteroid, bearing horrors!

I enjoyed this. Alex's reactions to Jim reminded me so much of my own 'first date' feelings! Lol

The battle scenes, as usual, were fast and furious, and Alex's reactions to being unlinked with Chine were so understandable.

The ending, as quickly as it seemed to come up, was intriguing, so I'm going to be going straight on to Book Nine: 'An Alien Affair'.

Once I've read this, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it all so, until then, I hope you get these books, to enjoy them yourselves! 👍

The eighth entry of Ramy Vance and Michael Anderle’s Dragon Approved series opens with the wizard Myrddin having declared a holiday at the Wasp’s Nest, the first ever, with protagonist Alex Bound spending the day with her boyfriend Jim until they find pixies in trouble, whom they rescue from giants that serve as antagonists later on. An alien spaceship is also slowly descending to Middang3ard, having an energy signature similar to the meteor in the previous book. The book ends with a battle against Hulmor, the First Giant of the Dark One, followed by the vessel’s occupant speaking with Myrddin.

All in all, this was another good if brief entry of the Dragon Approved series, with its length scarcely an issue for me given that it very well puts quality above quantity, given the clear-cut plotline and straightforward fantasy action. The author’s note by coauthor Ramy Vance that continues the faux synopsis of the alleged next entry in The Toddler series is a humorous addition as well, giving more connection to the book’s immediate predecessor than it already has. While there are some derivative elements such as dragonriders, the introduction of science-fiction elements definitely gives the story a twist, and I recommend it easily to those who enjoyed its precursors.

Amidst all the upheaval, our brave characters try to catch a breather, which of course is short lived. Signs of trauma start showing which needs to be worked through. And more characters enter thus storyline adding even greater mystery and intrigue. Love it! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.

Pixies and giants and more! (Oh, my!)

Alex and Team Boundless are once again fighting against the Dark One’s forces. Alex has a lot to get her head around, and learns more about herself. Another great story on the series.
