Ruby Ringo, a young Texas woman, becomes a trail boss after her grandpa dies, leading a herd of cattle from south Texas to Abilene. A young cowboy comes along and finds her nearly dead in the wilds of Indian Territory, her herd gone and all her drovers dead. It's the story of a young woman who does her best against all odds and wins not only the battle to get her herd back but to win the heart of the man she loves. Another western novel, set in 1867-68 Texas and Wyoming from the pen of R. O. Lane.
R.O. Lane is the author of several western novels, including the US Marshal series. R. O. has BA in English and an MA in communications research. He worked as a writer and editor for three daily newspapers and has written dozens of speeches for senior officers of three Fortune 500 corporations.
TOUGH AS HELL YOUNG WOMAN OUT TO BE THE BEST IN A MAN'S WORLD OF RANCHING IN TEXAS DURING 1870's
2/06/26 Review: ☆☆☆☆☆
What a great story by R.O. Lane is a strong-willed and determined young woman who sets out to be trail boss for her own cattle from South Texas to Abilene on the Chisholm Trail. She hired good men and treated them well all the while holding her own working as hard if not harder than her hands. Making good time on the trail and really not having any problems, they are all shot to hell by a group of ruthless rustlers killing everyone, shooting Ruby leaving her for dead and taking her cattle, horses, chuck wagon, all their weapons, and robbing the dead.
Arlo Coburn, on his way to make his way in life, stumbles on the gruesome scene and while searching for any survivors, finds Ruby close to death. Arlo nursing Ruby back to health, the two make a run towards Abilene to get Ruby's cattle back and return the favor to the killers of her men by filling them with lead. Afterwards, Arlo continues on his way to make a life for himself out west.
This is another great story by R.O. Lane that is well-written, action-packed throughout, and will entertain you and hold your interest from the first page to the last with the adventures of both Ruby and Arlo as they make their way separately hundreds of miles apart. It's sad at times, joyful at others and you'll find yourself laughing from time to time and hoping Arlo and Ruby will find a way to come together and live together happily for the rest of their lives.
A great writer of westerns, Ruby Ringo is one of my favorite books. I was afraid that Argo would not make it back to Ruby in time, but he did and all ended well. Great reading
Loved the fearless woman character. Ringo defies the common stereotypes of female gender helplessness. The mass killing off of buffalo for skins and tongues while tons of meat rotted on the prairie came to me with mixed emotions. The Sioux's point of view is overshadowed by the quest for quick profits, waste, and control of the Indian. Lane does a decent job of bringing the realties of the day into the story without recklessly glorifying the white man's eventual domination over the American prairies. Great tale worth reading. PKB
Cattle, Buffalo, Ruby & Arlo: the best western ever
Although this is one of Lane’s best books, some might overlook it because this western has a female hero, Ruby Ringo, rather than a scruffy Texas cowboy. Don’t miss this story. It has cattle drives, rustlers, buffalo hunters, shootouts with Indians and good-old-boys like Arlo to save the day.
This has a truly exceptional book and storyline that I have enjoyed from page one. Tons of action and suspense with the sweetest love story ever!! Totally enjoyed the ending, as one of the best that I have read.. This Author is probably one of favorite of all time. Every Book that I have read by this Author have all been 5 Star Ratings!!
I really enjoyed another great read by R. O. Lanethanks! It had a great plot and many surprise twist and turns in the story. It keeps you on the edge of your seat for sure!! I will read this one again and again! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!!
I have read a lot of books by R.o. lane and they have all been great. Ruby Ringo lives up to Mr. Lane’s great writing. l’m always watching for new books from Mr. Lane, and he never disappoints me. keep them coming!!!!
Ruby takes on the challenge of running her grandfather's ranch after he passes including driving a thousand head of longhorns up the Chislom trail to Kansas to market. She runs into trouble and Arlo....
I found Ruby Ringo to be a refreshing story about a good, strong western woman. I could have done without the graphic bison skinning details. On the whole I really liked the book!
Ruby Dingo is quite a women. Beautiful red hair, strong willed and very brave. She takes a cattle here to Abilene but her cow hands are killed and her cattle were stolen. She hunts down the thieves.
This yarn is highly entertaining, with great characters and an out-of-the-ordinary plot. I really enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it to all ya'll. Enjoy!
I especially liked how the book was really three in one: one about Ruby andArlo together and seperate stories for each of them. All three were exceptional. I really enjoyed the postlog to complete the story. Keep up the good writing.
I liked the story line and the colorful characters. The only thing that bothered me was miles traveled per day. A little more research needs to be done to find facts. Things like this bother me. Most people wouldn't notice.
Nobody tells a great western love story like this author. Hard as nails western woman that can take care of herself and does an excellent job running a ranch falls in love with her rescuer. Great story
I have thoroughly enjoyed this author and his action packed and romance filled stories. I recommend anyone to follow this author as the stories are fun to read!
I read a lot. My favorite author is CJ Petit and have read all of his nearly 100 books. Some more than once when I can't find a author nearly as good as Petit. Ruby Rings is as good as any Western I have read. Read it, you will like it.
Just the right balance of strong willed, hard working men and women building lives and families in the unsettled west . Discovery, danger, and commitment. I have thoroughly enjoyed every one of the more than a dozen R. O. Lane books I've read
I like the story line and character incite, so it's an easy read. The wordiness is unnecessary. Still I enjoyed the book enough to start the next R.O. Lane adventure.
Another good book by Lane. Love story about good times and bad times but some how as usual works out for the better in the end. It's also about tough times to test a persons worth while. Good read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Having grown up in Bandera , it brought back some great childhood memories of the land and people. Avery pleasant read.
