When Alex sees a Defender Class battle mech shot down just meters from where he’s hiding, he knows he has to do something. Getting into a mechanized battle suit isn’t easy, and controlling the powerful war machine shouldn’t be possible without Ahzco’s secret Implanted Neural Control (INC) chip, but Alex is about to do something no one on a hundred worlds has ever done. And his life is never going to be the same.
In the future, mega corporations control entire star systems and are even more powerful than the government. Competition isn’t just big business — it’s war!
Join Alex Evans as he gets fast-tracked into Ahzco’s Corporate Defense Force and the world of mechanized warfare. There are secrets that people will kill to keep, and dangers that can’t be avoided. The company opens the entire galaxy to a young man from a colony planet, but Alex must determine if he can trust that Ahzco has his best interests in mind. Or if he’s just another pawn in their corporate games.
War INC is a fantastic coming of age story set in a classic sci-fi universe in the vein of Starship Troopers, the Frontline books, and Star Wars. Author Toby Neighbors is a master storyteller with over fifty published novels, who writes at a spellbinding pace. War INC is the first book in a new space opera series suitable for all ages.
What a ride! It's a non stop page turner! Great story and excellent writing. Not predictable but still a familiar story. Boy on dead end planet, gets thrust into combat, meets girl, saves the day and is humble about it. I read front to back almost non stop, I just couldn't put it down.
War Inc: is a pretty good story. I've always liked military scifi, and especially the ones with mech fighting in them (as long as the author doesn't call them mecha). (yes, I've quit reading several mech related books, because the author insisted on calling them mechas instead of mechs) (BTW, the original game that started the whole mech genre was called "Mechwars" (not mecha wars). In any case, spelling aside, the story is pretty good, and I intend to read more when I find them.
Plot is nothing new but sucks you into the story. The protagonist can be a little flat at times but grows naturally. The typical 'goes to boot camp and shows genius' feels rushed and abbreviated however overall the story and main character are interesting and entertaining. The biggest flaw is the overwhelming need for a good editor. Not just grammatical mistakes but missing or incorrect words (like shutter instead of shudder) to the point at times it's like reading a poorly translated web novel. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
Alex Chester Evans, Ace, a seventeen year old about to graduate school has no prospects for his future. Having grown up on a Class 3 mining colony, all of his applications for advanced studies have been rejected, including his application to the Corporate Security Service. Suddenly, as is often the case in Toby Neighbors' series, Alex gets a sudden lucky break that reveals he has an unexplainable natural talent that shakes the security forces to their core. I recommend this book. It has a good plot and is well written.
Not bad but not that good either. Frankly i had to struggle through most of it. The plot is not that interesting, the whole corporation owned starsystems controlled by corporations but with such idiotic spending priorities makes no sense, the team mechanics are bad and the characters 1 dimensional apart from the 4 or 5 with a bit of a description. Also the whole premises on witch the book starts is silly . I kept hoping it would get better but it was in vane.
No Bad, Not Great, Not what I was looking for at the moment. This book comes across as YA.
Not a huge fan of the core concept that piloting a Mech requires 2 people working in tandem. Imagine you want to go left, but the other person who has control of movement went right... or, you want to shoot an enemy with a lazor the instant they pop up, but the other person swapped your armament to grenades... To me this is just BORKED.
Good first book in the series, but I somehow expected a little more. This was a solid story without being exceptional. I felt that the characters lacked a lot of depth, the character development could have been a lot more comprehensive, and the story overall just felt that it could have been developed more.
A great start to a new series and a new universe Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action and adventure. I look forward to more from this series 😁. The interaction between the controller and the pilot of the Mech is a brilliant new twist on the genre.
Not much to dislike about War, Inc.1. Strong plot of good vs.evil. Strong story of rags to riches. Strong character development. I have always liked one central character to whom I can identify and follow without leaps of place and time, just how one event led to another. And, of course, a promise of more to come!
really enjoyed this book.so much so that I jumped straight ahead to get the second part right after finishing this one! (Kindle Unlimited defo has some positives .. ). Liked the progression of the plot and the development it characters. Battle scenes are quite good..
Loved this book! It was so good I couldn't wait until the next book to find out what was going on. Ace Evans is an interesting character. He is smart, but doesn't know it; social, but wasn't before he became an operator. If you like space operas, I know that you will like this book.
Escapism is the hallmark of good science fiction. This book fulfilled that mandate. Good guy underdog wins in the end. It doesn’t matter that you know, it’s how it comes about. A plus for me is good editing, I didn’t find a one.🙃🙃🙃
Well that was interestingly a great story I totally enjoyed it and look forward to reading the next episode. Hopefully our hero will be the ace everyone expects him to be
This is a good military Sci-fi story with an interesting protagonist. It moves him rather abruptly through Basic Training but that was needed for the plot. Still a fun read.
First in the series, this book is bringing you into the universe thousands of years in the future but still believable. The twists of the plot are surprising. The action is detailed and holds the reader's attention throughout. A very interesting read!
This story is about a coming of age and the “luck” the protagonist has in seeing his dreams come true. This was somewhat predictable, but a smooth read. Enjoy.
A good story that came to the end way too fast, yet there's plenty of action to keep you entertain and a surprise at the end wish shock you this story over?
Following the unlikely rise if Alex from a numbered dump of a backwater planet, we see this young man go from bumpkin to lucky/good operator. Decent read
Read it I dare you. I read this in 4 sit down as I could not put it down. You want to know what is going to happen to Alex . I really say read this you will love it
got my interest from pg 1 and kept it. Will be reading book 2. good characterization with some plot twists. While villains were easily predictable that did not hurt the reading.
